what if Yasopp is as much of a coward as Usopp is? And once Uospp realises that his "perfect ideal" of his father he held for so long is not true at all, he then can become better than his father Yasopp and thus reach new heights on the way of becoming a brave warrior of the sea. Regarding the ship annihilations, I think it's a willpower/determination test from Shanks. Are the pirates of this new era willing to scratch and claw to reach their dreams after seemingly losing everything, are they prepared to put their life on the line for their dream?
I think Shanks wanted to order Barto to "kill luffy" with fake Poison so that he can safe face without actually having to kill anyone. Everybody sees that fucking with shanks has consequences without anyone actually dying
It probably was juice or something Shanks used to mess with luffy when he was still “a kid”. Nobody dies, Shanks has a laugh at luffy’s expense and Luffy starts to take the grand fleet more seriously.
Yasopp did it this way and Shanks allowed him to because they both understood 3 things : 1. They need to appear to do things like this to keep up their Yonko image and via that help protect their territories. 2. It gave the Barto Crew a chance to survive. 3. IF they did indeed survive, they became even stronger and even more fitting subordinates for Luffy. Haki blooms in battle and all that.
What I wonder if this is going to spark a war Between the two crews as Shanks did just destroy one of the straw hat Grand Fleet and as much as the main character idolizes Shanks i'm not sure if he would allow Shanks to kill one of his sworn allies so in an effort to show that Shanks is strong Shanks might end up getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter
@@yami122 yassop literally shooting a ship with luffys face on it seems like a war... barto started it tho... but if not, I'd be upset... we need luffys vs shanks in someway...I'd settle for luffys and shanks teaming up... just need to see their interaction lol. Wouldn't put it past oda to not let shanks and luffy meet again
Oda is just a genius, he´s basically telling us to don´t worry Elbaf will be Ussop´s arc... everything about Yassop´s actions here, form his power to his atitude, sets expectations for what Ussop would or would not consider as a brave warrior of the sea
Shanks’ crew has remained consistent with their actions since Romance Dawn; “Be prepared to die when you raise a weapon.” The only difference is in who is learning the lesson - it started with someone we hated (mountain bandit), moved to someone we felt neutral about (Kid), and now onto someone we loved (Barto).
I read a comment that said Yasopp heard Bartolomeo say Shanks was soft and then proceeded to shoot them. Shanks talked to Greenbull from ages away so I wouldn't doubt it🤔
1:05 correction: what happened 1 month ago was Bartolomeo burning Shank's flag (while the Red Force is in Wano they discuss what they should do about him), from Wano they sail to Elbaf for the confrontation with Kid, and then right after they set out to Gartel island, while the Giant pirates go off to Egghead The scene in this chapter has to be concurrent with the Straw Hats coming to Elbaf
Tbh in my opinion the poison plot wasn’t a test for Bart, his fate was already sealed, it was rather a test for Luffy…what kind of does he allow to enact on his behalf, just some random dude or someone who is loyal.
I think shanks can’t really take anything lying down anymore as a yonko, since his image as a yonko is what protects the villages under his control. If people thought he was the type of guy you could still just throw bottles of alcohol at all those islands would be raifed

I really wish people would remember Punk Hazard more. Zoro knows all too well the consequences of not being strong enough physically and mentally and having a soft heart on the seas (Sabaody) not to mention when he says those things that make us go "Damn bro..." he's often talking to himself too. Remember the line of dialogue we got from Sanji "He's always so hard on himself" I think that line from two chapters ago might also be a little jab at himself for his reaction at wano when Yasuie died
lol Kidd was decimated twice by the red haired pirates . And 1x by the big mom pirates and 1x by the Animal kingdom pirates only Yonkou who hasn’t shitted on him yet is Black beard and Buggy
It's one of those Zoro told luffy that usopp couldn't just disrespect the captain like that even though luffy wanted to take it easy on him. Shanks let barty off bc his love for luffy but yasopp was not having the disrespect
One thing I find interesting is that this very well may lead to Shanks entire crew getting its ass handed to it on a silver platter as he did just declare war on an emperor An emperor who is actually defeated another emperor compared with Shanks who has had to hide from the other emperors for six years

People forget the type of Haki usopp uses requires him to be very calm. Usopp is far from calm he’s always scarred and panicking. He’s likely never using that ability again until he gets into a jam
I know that we say that the Shanks and bandit scene was a good lesson for Luffy to learn so he doesn't end up like Kidd - killing people left and right for no reason - (and it was!) but their actions now could also have evolved from that. Shanks didn't take care of the bandits when he could have and the result was the village being bothered while they weren't there and Luffy nearly dying and Shanks losing an arm. Might be character-growth. (Though I do like the idea Yassop only took aim once Bart started thinking they were soft.)
Tekking my theory is that he didn't want someone like that ruining Luffy's image. He's now an emperor and something Barto does wrong and he's gonna get Luffy in more trouble than Luffy could handle. Shanks doesn't know that Luffy's already dealt with the absolute worst, The Gorosei, given that he's still (probably) looking out for Luffy, Bartolomeo is not a good fit for the Grand Fleet.
Either Yasopps Armament Haki is so strong he can blow up a ship with one shot, or his Observation Haki is so high he could find the gunpowder reserves aboard the Going Luffy, and land a shot several hundred yards away… on a moving target.
i really didnt think ppl would be divided over this tbh, it made perfect sense to me why yassop took an action on his own, i always felt like the dynamic of shanks's crew was way more on an equal ground then other crews, and that if push came to shove another member of shanks's crew could take action
My best guess is that Shanks knows as a yonko he can’t just let another pirate crew one working for another yonko burn his flag. The test was about determining if Shanks was going to kill this guy who wasn’t even loyal to Luffy thus helping Luffy in the long run or if Shanks was gonna have to do a little more work to keep these allies of Luffy alive. Bartolomeo passed the test so I think Shanks had them go then had someone or something else out there to pick them up afterwards. Shanks can be seen as tough and now Shanks can also use this crew who are supposed to be dead to pass secret messages to Luffy. As Shanks would know if word got out he might be allying with Luffy Blackbeard and the world government will mobilize way more as Shanks knows how worried everyone was when it looked like Kaido and Big Mom were allying. My one Shanks chess theory
My husband being black and his father and grandfather that all black and stayed married to their wives my husband don’t understand. But I saw a white child that grow up without his mom and father and run across the NK border. But than my friend raise his black son as his mom was a die beat I completely understand the pain and hurt. He wait for his mom who never come by and when she rarely did she was so high it was mess up. He was cry evening being 10 years old. Now that cut and I begin to understand more. Look up the story about that white guy going to the most crazy place on earth as NK by running across the borders as he was former USA army. He found it better living in NK even though they never let him near the towns or cities. Didn’t understand deep child hood trama and being blk have nothing to do what it. There deadbeat dad and mom and some stay marry but pay no attention to their child the workers raise and take care of them. Saw one true crime case was the family was beyond wealthy either parent work but drink and fight each other, they nanny raise their son 100% dead beat parents. I don’t even no what worst. One you never see or the ones you see off and on both of them have no excuse not spending time with you and letting the nanny raise you.
Luffy is also a Yonko now and Bartolomeo is his underling, this would be seen as a Yonko crew trying to take territory from another Yonko crew which would demand a harsh response from shanks. If Blackbeard or the Cross Guild learned about this they might make an actual move against him to take territory. This could have seriously started a conflict between Yonkos which would be a world shaking event much like the summit war.
Bartolomeo drank the poison and passed the test so Yasopp went easy on him: just blow up the ship, put up a bit of a show, leave a message, then when nobody's looking, have the Red-Haired Pirates go in and fish them out of the sea and it's all good. If Bartolomeo HADN'T drunk the poison, and had accepted the task of killing luffy, on the other hand? Yasopp would've gone for the kill. Only thing they'd be fishing out afterwards would be corpses.
Here's the thing though: Yasopp wasn't present at the test. Re-read those pages. Beckmann, Shanks and Roux were present but Yasopp is nowhere to be seen. Maybe that's just a coincidence but it's possible this has significance. Maybe Yasopp didn't approve of the test; or even he never heard the results and just assumed Barto failed.
@@IamGrimalkin Could've just been somewhere out of frame. The whole scene never had too big of an establishing shot so there was plenty of space for him to sit down and cover the whole situation. As a sniper, he should be in the back. Besides, hard to imagine he wouldn't be present, or that if indeed he weren't, he wouldn't be hearing the result from the rest of the crew anyway. He's one of the high-ranking officers, you'd think they would keep him in the loop.
@@BraceDecades Him being out of shot is certainly possible (and probably is what happened if this never gets brought up again). But right now, it's an interesting coincidence, that maybe points to something else going on.
But you have to get rid of Barto's fruit because with the barrier available the final battle would be kinda one-sided. Oden with Enma couldn't crack it, getting rid of that plot device is only logical.
Perhaps his observation haki is so damn good that he can more or less see through objects like an x ray and he found the oil or alcohol barrel. Either that or haki bomb bullets.
Just remember, the last time an upstart got away from an emperor, Big News Morgan reported it as defeating that emperor, which lead to the upstart becoming an emperor himself. As an emperor, what would you do if that upstart's lackey starts messing you?
10:15 It's easy: Had he agreed to poison Luffy, they would'0ve fucking killed him on the spot, because they knew that everything they did was of their ownaccord, and Luffy played no role in it. It was both a loyalty test, and "let's see if you dare lying to me" at the same time. And it was done with Shanks's ok, he actually told him "move so I can shoot them, please"
This also could have been there attempt to give Barto a 30 second head start. You fail the loyalty test we kill you right now, you pass the loyalty test you get to try to escape.
I think from a storytelling perspective, Oda waiting this long for Shanks to do anything makes sense. This way, he had room to grow out the other characters as far as he wanted without a set limit, that way when he did show him off, he could show him doing something actually impressive instead of a simple feat that gets outshined later (almost like Mihawk cutting a ship in half as his introduction).
The way I hope the Usopp/Yassop reunion goes down is Usopp being happy to see his dad, and tells him all about all the adventures the Straw Hat crew has had, and then Yassop asks about how his mom is doing and Usopp realizes just how negligent his dad is that he never even bothered to check if they were alive, causing Usopp to be emotionally invested in beating this man during their Davy Back Fight
I’ve seen people criticize Yassop for this incident by calling him a coward for doing that. Like they expect pirates to be some sort of honor bound order. They are pirates. This is a very pirate thing to do especially for a Yonko crew with their reputations to worry about. Most pirates are not gonna be like the Strawhats.
Except the story just doesn't show that to be true Roger Oden White Beard Are all shown to be above that Honestly I can think of actually very few pirates in this story that would wait until the opponent is showing their back then kill them
@@yami122 Roger decimated and killed plenty of pirate crews. Squard and Shiki say hello. Any examples of “honorable” pirates make up less than maybe 1% of all pirates. If you want to start using Yonko crews to try and prove the contrary I can do the same and bring up Blackbeard. Blackbeard is the quintessential pirate of One Piece. He’s duplicitous, cunning, ambitious, backstabbing, and cowardly. That’s a pirate.
Everyone talks about Yasopp taking down a ship with a single bullet but real ones will remember how Usoopp took down two marine ships with one shot back in Arabasta
The way I interpreted that scene was that Yasopp sensed the Bartolomeo's crew criticizing how easily they got away with his observation haki. If they would have been more content and had shown that they learned their lesson, Yasopp wouldn't have done what he did.
I think another reason why bartos crew had to be decimated was because if they got off essentially Scott free while being a known member of luffys grand fleet it could make the government think the both might be allying and that might scare them into trying to stop both of them by any means like how they reacted when big mom and kaido were allying in wano
When you can blow up a ship with a single bullet, you can call yourself anything you want!! Take WB. Ain't nobody complaining about his beard, now is there??😂
Yassop definitely made the call but Shanks could've stopped it if he wanted to. So he probably realized that it was necessary and trusted Yassop's judgment.
Yasopp obviously hit their cannonball storage. First thing that came to mind soon as I saw it. Haki doesn't explode unless he makes ammo. But his observation probably could see where their cannonballs are and shot them, causing it to implode the ship.
That's possible, but it's also possible that this is an application of armament haki we haven't seen yet. For example, izo was able to imbue his bullets with haki in a shape that gave them cutting power. It's possible yasopp can imbue his bullets with haki in a way that makes it explosive
I think that sinking the ship is actually Shank's MO. I think that he deals a kind of punishment that is equal to the crime, and then destroys the ship. Destroying a pirate's ship, especially in the grand line and the New World, is devastating even if it isn't meaningful like the Merry. Its like killing the doctor or the navigator of the crew. I think it makes sense too, it's basically saying "Here's your punishment, paid in full, if you survive then we're even, if not, then you weren't strong enough for this world." I really like the idea of Shanks as the "great equalizer". He's a celestial dragon, but a Yonko. He's kind, but a pirate. He protects weaker crews to keep balance. He stops Kaido to keep balance. He ends marineford at the perfect moment to keep balance. He could have gone for the One Piece at any moment, but chooses to right when Luffy becomes a Yonko, because he must equalize the playing field. I doubt that in their first encounter, Kidd didn't lose crew members. The Red Hair Pirates probably showed up, beat Kidd's ass for attacking their island, killed a bunch of his crew for all those he killed, and destroyed his original ship. Kidd may have even lost his arm from Ben Beckman not because Beckman ripped his arm off, but because Beckman was the one that destroyed his ship, and that caused Kidd to lose his arm.
The loyalty test might have been just as big of a test for luffy as Bartolemeo. Like Shanks measuring how luffy has been without watching him, thus loyalty test, regardless of outcome, goes first then ship destroyed.
The way i interpreted it was that shanks gave bartolomeo the fake poison to take to luffy to keep respect in the public eye, not expecting bartolemeo to drink it. So when he did drink it, shanks felt his hand was forced to destroy the ship to show you dont mess with him
I don't think shanks himself will save them. It's more a test of can they survive this. If they can, they can live, with punishment still sending the message that you can't mess with shanks unscathed. And if barto dies, then he isn't strong enough for the new world
7:02 Yes I think so. Remember when Luffy did it in Film Red when Luffy was put into a ball to contain Luffy. Then when Luffy was ready he popped himself out, leaving Barto shocked.
Yasopp must've seen a responsible father that didn't abandoned his child on Bartolomeo's ship.

Yasopp did it this way and Shanks allowed him to because they both understood 3 things :
1. They need to appear to do things like this to keep up their Yonko image and via that help protect their territories.
2. It gave the Barto Crew a chance to survive.
3. IF they did indeed survive, they became even stronger and even more fitting subordinates for Luffy. Haki blooms in battle and all that.
What I wonder if this is going to spark a war Between the two crews as Shanks did just destroy one of the straw hat Grand Fleet and as much as the main character idolizes Shanks i'm not sure if he would allow Shanks to kill one of his sworn allies
so in an effort to show that Shanks is strong Shanks might end up getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter

Wouldn't put it past oda to not let shanks and luffy meet again
If Barto and his crew do survive, they're definitely gonna be super cautious when entering yonko territory.
"Your ship or your limb?" Shanks' crew treatment if Barty Boy & Kid taught us anything lol.
Oda is just a genius, he´s basically telling us to don´t worry Elbaf will be Ussop´s arc... everything about Yassop´s actions here, form his power to his atitude, sets expectations for what Ussop would or would not consider as a brave warrior of the sea
He showed loyalty, so he gets to live(possibly) but ship goes boom.
If he didn’t, they’d just be killed immediately and their ship destroyed.
Shanks’ crew has remained consistent with their actions since Romance Dawn; “Be prepared to die when you raise a weapon.”
The only difference is in who is learning the lesson - it started with someone we hated (mountain bandit), moved to someone we felt neutral about (Kid), and now onto someone we loved (Barto).
I dont love characters just because they love your protagonist but are genuine evil, so theres no we
I read a comment that said Yasopp heard Bartolomeo say Shanks was soft and then proceeded to shoot them. Shanks talked to Greenbull from ages away so I wouldn't doubt it🤔
1:05 correction: what happened 1 month ago was Bartolomeo burning Shank's flag (while the Red Force is in Wano they discuss what they should do about him), from Wano they sail to Elbaf for the confrontation with Kid, and then right after they set out to Gartel island, while the Giant pirates go off to Egghead
The scene in this chapter has to be concurrent with the Straw Hats coming to Elbaf

The observation haki so strong he see through the ship, finds their armory on the ship, and ignite it with a single bullet.
The poison was the test.
Yasopp was the result.

I don't think Shanks has changed that much since chapter one. It's always been: Threaten my friends and I can't guarantee your survival"
I think barto learned his lesson. If he survives this, i think he'll be better for it. A much more worthy member of the grand fleet
As a black kid who grew up without a dad; there's exactly ONE thing Yasopp could do that I'd consider cool...
What is that?
Yassop having a lot of freedom to act on his own reminds of how Nami serves are the acting captain while on the open sea.
I rlly like this explanation actually
@@BraceDecades
Him being out of shot is certainly possible (and probably is what happened if this never gets brought up again).
But right now, it's an interesting coincidence, that maybe points to something else going on.
But you have to get rid of Barto's fruit because with the barrier available the final battle would be kinda one-sided. Oden with Enma couldn't crack it, getting rid of that plot device is only logical.
I think by one month earlier, Oda meant that Barto burning down the flag was what happened and Shanks punishing Barto is current events
Perhaps his observation haki is so damn good that he can more or less see through objects like an x ray and he found the oil or alcohol barrel. Either that or haki bomb bullets.
We have seen this before. Early on we saw one of shank's crew kill a guy without shanks saying anything and no one made a deal about it in the crew
I think destroying the ship was apart of the plan. The loyalty test I think was there to determine if Shanks needed to do more.
Yassop must've heard Bartolomew say shanks is soft from his observation haki and then decided to shoot him for that
This also could have been there attempt to give Barto a 30 second head start.
“This is Business not Personal “
The switch to one arm for the shanks impression was great
The way I hope the Usopp/Yassop reunion goes down is Usopp being happy to see his dad, and tells him all about all the adventures the Straw Hat crew has had, and then Yassop asks about how his mom is doing and Usopp realizes just how negligent his dad is that he never even bothered to check if they were alive, causing Usopp to be emotionally invested in beating this man during their Davy Back Fight
Yasopp: I will be waiting for you at the top of the World Tree for our first and last conversation.
I know this is a stretch, but maybe Yassop heard Barto and was like, "well, we can't have that!"
There's a reason Ussopp is a coward. There's a big chance Yassopp is as big of a coward if not more than his son.
Except the story just doesn't show that to be true
Roger Oden White Beard Are all shown to be above that
Honestly I can think of actually very few pirates in this story that would wait until the opponent is showing their back then kill them
@@yami122 Roger decimated and killed plenty of pirate crews.
@@yami122u named 3 pirates in a show that has 1000
The term "coward" only works in this case as a criticism since his son's dream is to be a "brave" warrior of the sea.
Everyone talks about Yasopp taking down a ship with a single bullet but real ones will remember how Usoopp took down two marine ships with one shot back in Arabasta
14:00 Bartolommeo actually did burn the town down.
Well, that's hyperbole. He burned one building. Still bad, but not exactly razing it to the ground.
His fate could have been a whole lot worse if he had agreed to give Luffy the poison. Shanks might have actually slaughtered all of them.
Been a while since I last watched one of ur vids. Always good to hear your voice Tekking :)
The way I interpreted that scene was that Yasopp sensed the Bartolomeo's crew criticizing how easily they got away with his observation haki. If they would have been more content and had shown that they learned their lesson, Yasopp wouldn't have done what he did.
Normal dads: let's play catch
Yassop: let's play catch, with explosives
Chaotic Good: Straw-hats
Chaotic Neutral: Shanks ?
Chaotic Evil Black Beard
I think another reason why bartos crew had to be decimated was because if they got off essentially Scott free while being a known member of luffys grand fleet it could make the government think the both might be allying and that might scare them into trying to stop both of them by any means like how they reacted when big mom and kaido were allying in wano
So if 1 bullet hits like a nuke imagine a thousand of them being shot at you all at once. I would call it Rapid Atomic Shot or RAS for short.

I think it makes sense too, it's basically saying "Here's your punishment, paid in full, if you survive then we're even, if not, then you weren't strong enough for this world."
I really like the idea of Shanks as the "great equalizer".
I just imagine barto and the crew on the bottom of the ocean runnin in a barrier like a hamster ball
"I'm sorry, shanks doesn't have 2 arms" 😂😂😂
Thank you Tekking, Indonesian people (wibbu) relates to your excitement on One Piece.
Keep it coming, my friend..
Yassop really said "I can't have him leak my location! I dont wanna pay child support!"
The loyalty test might have been just as big of a test for luffy as Bartolemeo. Like Shanks measuring how luffy has been without watching him, thus loyalty test, regardless of outcome, goes first then ship destroyed.
That entire second sentence is a string of incomprehensible nonsense
The way i interpreted it was that shanks gave bartolomeo the fake poison to take to luffy to keep respect in the public eye, not expecting bartolemeo to drink it. So when he did drink it, shanks felt his hand was forced to destroy the ship to show you dont mess with him
Yasopp might have actually just heard Barto talking smack as well. I could see his observation increasing his sight and hearing.
My head canon is he heard bart call shanks soft and handled it appropriately
I imagine Shanks sighing and asking Rockstar to go save them from drowning
I don't think shanks himself will save them. It's more a test of can they survive this. If they can, they can live, with punishment still sending the message that you can't mess with shanks unscathed. And if barto dies, then he isn't strong enough for the new world
7:02
Yes I think so. Remember when Luffy did it in Film Red when Luffy was put into a ball to contain Luffy. Then when Luffy was ready he popped himself out, leaving Barto shocked.
I don’t think Shanks expected Yasopp to intervene so pretty sure he was actually gonna let them go 😂
I feel like with how strong shanks observation haki is, if anybody on his crew did something he doesn’t like, he’d put a stop to it before it happens.
