Some people are pointing this out (rightfully so). But the toy did break and then I follow up with saying the plastic quality is good. And while I stand by that statement, it did still break. This video wasn't shot in order and the breakage was partially the toys fault and partially my fault for just not paying attention. I still think it's a worthy pickup, just watch out for that bit

I know some folks complained about the pricing for Primal, but I suspect the reason most people accepted it, even begrudgingly, is because they know Hasbro isn't likely to sell the primary version of a faction leader at Deluxe pricepoint. Thus, even though Primal was small, simple, and seeming incomplete without a mace, blast effects, or anything in the gap of his chest, people accepted it as a "prime tax" as it were.
As for price hikes, it's more than a little. From WFC to now,
Deluxes have gone from $20 to $24-30 (25-50% price increase depending on location)
Voyagers have gone from $30 to 40 (25% increase

Figures that blur the lines of price point norms are why I weigh my figures with all their accessories after I open them.
(Only comparing generations figures from t30 to present day)
Not every figure is gunna have the same mass but I expect that if I buy a voyager I'll get more than what a large deluxe is. Same for leaders being more than voyagers and so on. So far every time a voyager has been given more stuff to be a leader or commander class, their plastic total has backed them up as that larger price point.
Because the video mentions primal I'll mention in mass primal is a small voyager but non the less still a voyager, more than what you'll get for a deluxe. Studio series hotrod is the only generations figure I have that can't be worth his price point from his mass. With everything he came with he's only the total of an average deluxe. I still bought him after learning that cuz mass is far from the only thing that matters but still I'd say he falls on a borderline because of that. I know I didn't type any exact numbers here but I do have it all written down and I do remember whether something is heavy light or average for it's price point.
Knowing that siege Ironhide was heavy for a deluxe is enough to not be so worried about studio series Ironhide. And I do think this kind of thing is an interesting conversation.

Kinda a hot take but the 86 line hot rod was a huge pain in the ass to transform from vehicle to robot mode when I first got him and was flying blind. I'm just excited they even made a new iron hide. Fingers crossed on an 86 perceptor

Bought it and took it back same day because of stress marks on the first transformation, it has great plastic in some places but the thin panels and the heavy reliance on clear plastic assured me that it would crumble over time

I have the same issue with the back pieces & the top clear plastic bits coming apart too easily & not staying pegged together. They do not seem very secure. They really could have benefited from better tab & slots.

I just got this toy. I am having a hard time getting the wind shield to to tab into the window panels to so it is not just you. The one time I did get everything tabbed together the wind shield didn't want to come unpegged when I wanted to make him a robot again. At this point I wish I had the other mold in red because it would have cleaner lines on the side and no lines on the roof. I think these toys are made more for pozing than for transforming and rolling around.

I love the fact that Ironhide's the size of a deluxe but the price of a voyager. That shows that Hasbro and Takara Tomy put actual effort and money into making this as good as it is. I saw this toy at Target today and bought him immediately, and I am not disappointed. Sure the roof panels don't connect properly and the back of the van on mine doesn't tab in quite right, but those are probably going to be fixed on Ratchet, and the quality over cost approach means that the figure is more complex in the deluxe size, and some things have to be sacrificed because of that.

@@alfreddooly3186 no. Making a figure one size class down from the price point can be amazing when done well like with Legacy Blitzwing or SS86 Ironhide, but the price of a Titan class doesn't feel like a justified expense to me even for an actual Titan class figure, and there are instances when this concept is poorly done, like with Siege Astrotrain. Please take my comment for what it is, not what the most extreme variation of my statement is.

I think what justified this being a voyager for me was because it came after a deluxe that demonstrated why a deluxe budget doesnt work for Ironhide. If you want a non partsforming, cartoon accurate, highly articulated, and well detailed G1 ironhide in the modern era you need a voyager budget. We need to accept that sometimes the added value of a price class is that they can properly do the character justice. Let us not forget the tragedy of voyager Broadside. Unfortunate were gonna need to change the world in a much larger way that stops inflation to get more than that.

  • @RogueTwo
    @RogueTwo 25 дней назад

I'm kind of frustrated by the toy. I was perfectly happy with my Earthrise Ironhide and Ratchet. I don't mind the parts-forming, and the riot shield seems perfectly appropriate for Ironhide. But when the Studio Series came out, EVERYONE was singing it's praises. Oooooohhh, no parts-forming! No feet sticking out in vehicle mode. So, fine! It took me months to track one down at a decent price, but I finally got an SS Ironhide, and got a pre-order in for Ratchet. And then, only once I got them in, did everyone start admitting the fragility issues with the clear plastic, and how finicky the transformation was. Some even going as far as to say the Earthrise one was actually better.
Now, personally, they're fine. I haven't had anything bad happen with them, but that transformation really feels like a chore compared to the Earthrise figure. The robot mode DOES feel nicely heafty, even of mine have a some loose joints. Then there are all the clear panels hanging off them, all in the service of appeasing the fans who complained endlessly about the Earthrise toys. I'm not saying the Studio Series figures are bad. But they are trading one set of issues for another. Your mileage may vary.

gaps are indeed really annoying. recently got ss06 starscream and thought it'd also have a problem with gaps on the thruster section but in the end the wings just tab in everything and hold it together. overall i'm impressed how good that starscream fits together and i wonder why they don't do it similar on all figures. the kibble on the bottom is a bit annoying but it's so far underneath it that it's not really visible, especially if slightly angled on a stand. so yeah, more tabs pls :D

I personally think his price point is fine, he’s a way better figure than the majority of the velocity sub line.. whos figures I feel should be no more than 20 bones.

There shouldn't be as much clear plastic on a figure in key spots, it should be window inserts not full parts that then take the paint budget away because they have to compensate and then in turn it ruins the vehicle because of mismatched colors all over.

Who could have guessed? Hasbro's clear plastic breaking!
"BuT cLEaR PlaStiC MakES NIcE wInDoWs"
    ... yeah, and broken figures...
I'll take normal plastic with black or silvery blue windows any day of the week (also allowing me NOT to see the crotch of a robot dude in alt-mode) over a useless broken figure.
Now it's the front bumper, but the whole roof is clear, it's just a matter of time.
"YoU juSt hAvE to BE cAreFuL!"
... do I need to remind you that this is a toy? For everyone? Children included?
Plus, yeah, part counts and all... but this dude is small... just like Astrotrain and Blitzwing... Hasbro is just lowering our standards more and more.

So I'm paying extra for them doing their initial job? If he's deluxe size then he should be deluxe price point. Extra accessories really don't make up for it ( that's other figures). The whole "complex engineering" isn't really much of an argument either. Your job IS to engineer the figure correctly. I can understand seige ironhide molds having simplistic transformation since they're meant to be alien vehicles. But they should've realized the earthrise/legacy molds having the roof parts-form and lazy feet transformation be a huge problem. Not people's fault hasbro decided not to correctly make the figure. I'm not saying this figure sucks but Jesus, you just pay extra for the name at this point. Galvatron, both kingdom and legacy, are a good example.

The price would be less of an issue if SS figures weren't so much more expensive than other CHUG figures. And even then it's too much for a figure that breaks when handling it delicately.
    ...
I'm probably a hypocrite for saying this when I got into 3P legends recently, and loving Magic Square's stuff. But at least there I don't need to worry about excessive clear plastic.
Hot Rod's worth was debatable for me, as the actual engineering didn't feel all that great but that's a highly subjective point. Primal, however, felt like he and his swords were made with super-sturdy plastic and at a way lower price than SS. So I wasn't too bothered there.
I'm not gonna act like my word is gospel. I'm okay with this recent trend when it's used for sturdier figures that can hold up under their engineering. But then I find all of Hasbro's new prices to be unreasonable regardless, so it could probably just be a me problem!
Point is, for me, Hot Rod being €40 was okay-ish, Primal being €30 was grand, Ironhide being nearly €50 is a joke. But that hardly matters if someone else gets it and it makes them happy.
