5:09 “hedging your bet” is almost the complete opposite of “pushing your luck” Hedging your bet means that whatever the outcome, you should end up doing okay…. While pushing your luck means it’s riskier, but if you get the outcome you want, it will really really pay off
Welcome (Back) to the Dungeon is great! One rules correction: In the Dungeon phase, when one Adventurer goes into the dungeon, you do not shuffle the deck; you simply reveal from top to bottom. Enjoy!
The beautiful push your luck part of mystic vale is that you see the top card of your deck which may be just the card you need to add to your field to give you that extra bonus to get that jucy card you've had your eyes on. but the second card of the deck may make you bust if you choose to go for it. When that top card is something you've invested a lot into and has a full three great advancements it hard to not push your luck, but if you do you may bust and not get to use it at all!
Just to confirm for Celestia: Zee was right, Tom was wrong (which is just nice to say for a change ;). You roll the dice, then everybody tries to figure out if the captain has the cards to beat it. Then the captain reveals if he can make it or not. Captain is the only one who can't get out. The only exception is when you are the only player on the ship. Then you can decide to get out BEFORE you roll the dice. The special cards make it really fun and one of them does allow the captain to pass the 'captain-hood' to someone else, which means he could then jump ship. This is definitely my favorite push-your-luck game, everybody always seems to really get into it and it is really simple to get to the table. (Completely unrelated: the most pure push-your-luck co-op game I know is Rescuing Robin Hood and it does make for an interesting tension.)
44:35 - There were 6 Stooges, 3 at a time in the act. 3 were brothers - Moe Howard (Moses Horwitz), Shemp Howard (Samuel Horwitz), and Curly Howard (Jerome Horwitz). The act was started by Moe with his brother Shemp and their frien Larry Fine (Louis Feinberg). They were the Stooges from 1923-1932. Shemp left the act in 1932 with issues with their MGM co-Star, Ted Healy, and Curly was brought in. In 1934, they split from Healy and signed on with Columbia Pictures. In 1946, Curly’s career was ended by a massive stroke, and Shemp came back as a favor to his brother. Curly died in 1952, and Shemp died of a sudden massive heart attack in 1955. Joe Besser (Jessel Besser) was one of Columbia’s few comedian’s who still did shorts in 1956, so the executives forced him on the Stooges because they were contracted for 4 more shorts that year. His character was a whinny character he had developed in his own prior shorts, and he had a contract clause that kept him from being hit in physical comedy. Many Sttoge fans do not care for his 16 shorts he did from 1956-1957 (released 1957-1959). Finally, Curly Joe DeRita (Joseph Wardell) joined after Besser left when his contract with Columbia was up. Moe and Larry were ready to retire when Larry discovered Curly Joe. The 3 Stooges in films, shows, Scooby Doo and other cartoons from 1959 - 1970 were Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe. - Help from Wikipedia 😊
We can all agree, "Quacks suck." J/k. But most of the times we played it, it overstayed its welcome, the choices of what tokens to buy doesnt seem to have that much significance, and the player who capitalize on the rat tails the most, wins.
Interesting. That hasn’t been my experience at all. Rat tails have helped players catch up, but I don’t think anyone has ever gone from last to first. It’s always gone by super quickly as well. But different people have different experiences with games. It sometimes seems that it doesn’t matter what chips to buy, but the winner of the games I’ve played usually invest in moths where it can earn a ruby and even move up your dropper, and the bird skulls that let you take a certain number of chips out of the bag and choose one to use next.
@@winstonhammonds3314 It too grew tired of this game, as it is not swingy enough for so much luck involved. There is hardly any catching up if the player ahead is careful not to bust.
Love Grizzled! Such a unique kind of war game, supporting each other through the horrors of war in the hope of surviving until there is peace. Only a minute before I was wondering if anyone would mention it. Of course it was Zee!
Cubitos is probably my #1. Like Mystic Vale before it, John D. Clair does a masterful job of making it strategic. Sometimes pushing your luck and busting would be better than your current turn, and you can build around busting.
How about a game like Robinson Crusoe? You have to take strategic risks or you will get hammered. Do you roll the dice or use an extra worker to ensure success of an action. I think it is push your luck.
Thanks for this cool list! I was a little sad that Abyss wasn’t on it. Best push your luck game ever to me. Bruno! T’inquiète pas, ton abyss, il déchire!!
@@BlueGiantMediawell, the whole game is only about pushing your luck. There are three areas where you can play during your turn (4 with leviathan) and all areas are about pushing your luck. So I guess that Zee either hates the game now 😁 or that he hasn’t thought of it while making this list.
Invincible: The Hero-Building Game would’ve made my list. I voted for that and Clank! Catacombs. The game I was wondering if it fit push your luck is Return to Dark Tower. In the dungeons you can push forward and risk dying or leave the dungeon. It’s a pretty significant part but is it a big enough component of the game to count? Finally, really happy to see Atlantis Rising. Great cooperative game
The Three Stooges casting was extra confusing, because after Curly was out, then there was Shemp, Joe, and Curly Joe... so yeah... there was a Joe AND a Curly Joe. Weird, I know. lol
What an unbelievably bad take. Tom made a point of saying he likes Quacks, he even considers it a quintessential push-your-luck game. But because that one game which is likely in the upper echelons of rankings just not in the very top 10 for this video, ALL of their lists are invalidated? A truly baffling leap of logic.
I agree. In the end it was just an over wrought push your luck game in my book. I want my push your luck games to get right down to it. I love push, can't stop, port royale, Ten and those style push your luck games. Quacks just felt like it was trying to make a push your luck game for gamers who usually turn their nose up at other push your luck games, and boy did it work. I may have rated it a 5.5, but I'm obviously in the minority. People LOVE this game. I traded mine with my friend for Deception Murder in Hong Kong.
Chris is correct, the tents come prefabricated in the more recent version of Incan Gold. They have them ready to go with a paper wrapper around them.
5:09 “hedging your bet” is almost the complete opposite of “pushing your luck”
Hedging your bet means that whatever the outcome, you should end up doing okay…. While pushing your luck means it’s riskier, but if you get the outcome you want, it will really really pay off
So hedging funds are better than betting funds?
I was missing "Pickomino" and "Spots". Both excellent push your luck dice-chuckers.
Deep Sea Adventure. A tiny game, but the shared oxygen resource really makes it shine.
Welcome (Back) to the Dungeon is great! One rules correction: In the Dungeon phase, when one Adventurer goes into the dungeon, you do not shuffle the deck; you simply reveal from top to bottom. Enjoy!
Board Game Bliss is my number one stop for games
The MLEM slander is wild

No Quacks? Wtf?😅
Uhh have you played Quacks?? 👎
Quacks of quack and quack
At least Zee I believe didn't like it that much, I thought Tom liked it, don't know about Chris
But it is an awesome game indeed
Agreed

I agree with Chris about Ra, it has push your luck in it. Maybe not always, as Zee pointed out, but it's there and is awesome
Spots is one of my favorites!
I love spots. We play it with the kids all the time!
How can I vote for people's choice? I looked for it in the web but couldn't find it

Mystic Vale has an interesting push your luck aspect to it, risking missing a turn in exchange for having huge combo turns
I was impatient, Tom got me lol
It probably won't show up on anyone's list, but I really like Shock! Knights with Poison. Incan Gold push your luck meets trick-taking.
Captain Flip DOES have that 'bust' outcome -- if you acquire 3 or more Gunner tiles and can't mitigate that, you BUST (get 0).
Coming here to say that as someone that has gotten the 3rd gunner on the last turn more times that I want to remember.
Ha! I don't know why I didn't even bring that up. Probably should have 😅 -Chris
I’m going to the real Matterhorn today! I haven’t seen Matterhorn in the gift shops, but I did see Ten and Wanderlust.
Incan Gold has an expansion supposedly coming out this year!
How about a game like Robinson Crusoe? You have to take strategic risks or you will get hammered. Do you roll the dice or use an extra worker to ensure success of an action. I think it is push your luck.
Haven't played many push your luck games but I really enjoy Hit Z Road and First in Flight
Thanks for this cool list! I was a little sad that Abyss wasn’t on it. Best push your luck game ever to me. Bruno! T’inquiète pas, ton abyss, il déchire!!
Considering how much Zee loves it, I assume he just didn’t feel it counted or that the push your luck was strong enough.
@@BlueGiantMediawell, the whole game is only about pushing your luck. There are three areas where you can play during your turn (4 with leviathan) and all areas are about pushing your luck. So I guess that Zee either hates the game now 😁 or that he hasn’t thought of it while making this list.
I like 10 i think it's underrated!
+1 The Grizzled & Dead Man's Draw
My top 7 Push your Luck
7. Yahtzee
6. Can’t stop
5. King of Tokyo
4.Kero
3. Abyss
2. Ra
1. Clank Catacombs
Farkle is a really fun game imo
Invincible: The Hero-Building Game would’ve made my list. I voted for that and Clank! Catacombs.

I really thought Tom was going to say Oathsworn when he was leading into his number 6.
Good seeing Skate Summer pop up!
Is cubitos any good for push your luck?
An EXCELLENT choice. I love how sometimes busting is beneficial and can be part of your strategy.
I love Port Royal but SPOTS is my #1
Archaeology The New Expedition should be near the top of this list.
The game they talk about at 8:00 I know as "Tutto"
Other PYL games that I consider top-notch:
1. My Gold Mine
2. No Mercy
Clank! Is definitely a PYL game, Catacombs even moreso.
Skunk , Cosmic Wimpout , Zombie Dice
My personal top 10
1 Corporate America
2 No thanks
3 Quacks
4 TEN
5 Ethnos
6 Atlantis Rising
7 Nanuk
8 RA
9 Celestia
10 Formula De
Glad to see someone mention TEN. Fun push your luck meets auction.
It feels like The Dice Tower has some sort of weird groupthink negative reaction to Llama. 😄
Surprised didn't include Abyss.😅
Good pick!
Love Incan Gold, no Cubitos though?
FFG could release get Ninjato and release it as an L5R game.
Its fine we'll break the top 10 of the top 100 of all time with Quacks in revenge 😂
I LOVE this list
Sea, salt, and paper
Deep Drive and Quacks!
This list was fumbled hard
Thanks! Got your own list to share?
No Invincible the Hero-Building game?!
1:05:16
Chris: ..Another one of thise Circus Flochatti games (where you flip over cards until you stop or bust?)...
Bust by revealing a second card of the same color rather than by a target value is what I was going for :)
Ra is about as much Press Your Luck as letting the dial in Ora et Labora increase is. 😅
I was very disappointed with Dead Man's Draw. Port Royal is much better
wonderlands war
The fact that no one at Dice Tower likes Quacks kinda ruins the validity of their lists.
I LOVE Quacks, and have said so very often.
What an unbelievably bad take. Tom made a point of saying he likes Quacks, he even considers it a quintessential push-your-luck game. You're wrong Chris - Lama Dice is the worst of the bunch... Lama is good, but Lama Kadabra is going to be even better.
Happily wrong to have the worst "Llama" game on my shelf. Such a fun time!
Although Caoybara Cookie Club isn't too bad.
I had Quacks but it just did not resonate with me :)

My group loves it, truly a push your luck game for sure.
I wouldn’t consider Ra a push your luck game.
I dont really need to know the top 10 push your luck games from 3 people. Id rather see the top 3 push your luck ganes from 6 people.
See yourself out
That’s a great idea for your RUclips channel.
