I just love these guys, that's why I always come back to the Dice Tower. They make it all so nice. With Mike being there less I'm really happy Joey is present. I love Roy, Camilla, Wendy, Chris and all the others too. This channel got me into board gaming as a hobby and I'm so grateful.
It was the video with Trey Parker that showed up on my social media feed and the board games they showed got me really excited to try them.

My top 10 would have 5-6 Uwe games in it lol. I don’t entirely agree with Tom’s assessment that many of his games don’t feel fresh or creative in regard to the worker placement system.
Agricola innovated worker placement a good deal with the resource accumulation spaces (love when that’s in games), revealing new spaces each round, the feeding vs. growing aspect, having personal cards that improve or otherwise interact with action spaces, etc. There’s still nothing else quite like it in my opinion.
Hallertau’s worker placement was pretty interesting with the spots costing more workers the more they have been used by the players, meaning the return on value for spots constantly changed throughout the game.
Fields of Arle has a unique system for a 2p worker placement game with two seasons and once each round one player can jump a season but it means going 2nd the following round. And having a worker placement spot for enhancing the power of some of the other spots if you invest in it.
Haven’t gotten Black Forest to the table yet but the system in there looks interesting, with the tension of deciding between paying to travel vs. accepting a closer spot and also every action is essentially combining two worker spots so you’re having to puzzle out not which one spot to go to but which two adjacent spots are the best for your current needs.
And of course AFFO’s grid-like system in which each column costs an additional worker that may also provide an additional benefit for spending said worker, getting workers back if you “fail” an action, Norwegians adding another column which relatively strong actions but your turn is done when you take em, etc. Maybe not revolutionary but still feels distinct and fresh imo.
That said, definitely agree y’all picked some good ones. Surprised not to see even more Garphill!

I love the bumping of the worker bees in Apiary as well as the variety of the placement spaces.

    • @justineld4905
      @justineld4905 2 месяца назад

It's not my favorite worker placement, that spot is and always will be reserved for Champions of Midgard, but I agree with you. Apiary is pretty awesome. And you can even bump your own worker on purpose to boost it faster!
One funny anecdote is that I've played this game three times and come in 2nd place all three times. And the owner of the game has won all three times. I definitely want to try again, especially with the new expansion.

    • @Kojimalosophy
      @Kojimalosophy Месяц назад

@@conorleyden9201 Uprising 1000% ... you are able to also deploy spies to the multiple locations, you have up to 2, and then when you want to send one of your four workers to one location but it is already occupied by an opponent's worker, if your spy happens to be there, that allows you to deploy your worker anyways! there are also cards that allow you to recall your spies and redeploy them, it adds a couple of other things like the sandworms for the fights, put the whole aspect of having spies moving around the board, make the game more maneuverable, you can get your strategies to actually play out and the game feels less restraining, if you can sell your copy of OG dune and buy uprising, I recommend you do ; )

There are so many great games in this category. Reading through the comments, I'd agree with giving a shoutout to Everdell and Apiary, which were not mentioned in the video.
But my personal favorite WP game will always be Champions of Midgard. I just love loading up my ship with food and warrior dice to go travel across the sea to fight that red Eldjotnarr with 5 coins on it, only to accidentally encounter the Kraken and have all my plans hanging in the balance of an unexpected dice roll. But as every who has played knows, the Valhalla expansion, which is absolutely necessary, takes care of super unlucky dice rolling....for the most part.
And there's a new 10th Anniversary Edition coming out! With a solo mode! (I just hope they can do something like the most recent expansion for Lost Ruins of Arnak and make some sort of co-op campaign that utilizes the solo mode.)

I am shocked that Everdell was not on here. It's my top game and has been for a few years now. I am less surprised, but my 2nd favorite worker placement game is Tzolkin.

The WP aspect is just so bog standard, it might be a good game (don't care for it myself), but more as the sum of parts and not because of its WP.

    Mine:
    1. Dune Imperium
    2. Paladins of the West Kingdom (though that’s barely a worker placement game with the lack of a shared board other the than the King’s Favour cards)
    3. Beyond the Sun
    4. Champions of Midgard
    5. Raiders of the North Sea
    6. Lords of Waterdeep
    7. Whistle Mountain
    8. Lost Ruins of Arnak
    9. Architects of the West Kingdom
    10. Caylus 1303

Workerplacement combine with bidding works fine. Resurgence (like Nova Roma from Stan Kordonsky) or Dungeon Pets are nice examples. Also when Tom was mentioning that Istanbul is Workermovement, why he didnt blame Mike for Outlive.

It's the extensions that make Endless Winter too plentiful where you can get everything. The base game is much tighter and more satisfying for me.

After multiple reads of last will manual couldn’t figure it out. That was before how to plays were really a thing. We actually gave up.

Does anybody consider Underwater Cities to be a worker olacement game? Im pretty sure in the rulebook it even says that the action tokens and cards are to be considered as workers. You place the tokens on an action slot and try to play a card matching the color of the action to get an additional action, which is representative of that worker going above and beyond what was asked of them

Bullets would certainly be safer than cartridges. Oh and my number one worker placement is currently The Manhattan Project.

Outrageous that there is no Uwe Rosenberg, the king of worker placement.

I agree with Zee's differentiation of WP vs. Action selection. Besides the black market spots, I don't view Architects as a WP game.

Targi is actually an arrow placement game, like Quadropolis, but the arrows are represented with workers.

    • @thedicetower

Not really, because quadropolis points to a specific spot. And the workers you place in Targi get the effect of the space they were put on.
