Mike is a legend. At the beginning when they talked over one of the names, i thought "I'd be so disappointed if i backed them and no one heard my name." Only for Mike to go back and have Tom re-read their name. What a dude.
They aren't kidding about the flea market at DTW. I had a table last year and my stuff was well discounted, mostly like 50% of what you would find online, but the table next to me was selling stuff at around 90% off. They were selling huge kickstarter editions of games that would normally cost like ~$300 for like $30. Seriously insane deals! They emptied their whole table in the first 25 minutes or so.
Mlem has been a blast for us as well! It’s something I’ve been able to bust out with my 67 year old dad who doesn’t really want to play games but likes this one and also with my wife and friends that play medium to heavy modern games. It really seems for us it’s been a huge hit!
When zee started singing "you gotta drink from the velcro cup" and then the music kicked in, I legit thought they had made a full song of it for a second! 😂
I have heard so many places about how easy Flamecraft is for new players but I own it and honestly every time I have played it with new players I feel like I am still teaching the same turn order for the 60th time in the final round of the game. I like the game, but I would be SUPER gunshy about pulling this out for people new to the hobby. So many people just seem to bounce off the turn order, even though it is very clear on the cheat sheets and will mix and match gather and enchant and just make up their own rules if not watched like a hawk on their turn.
Everyone I’ve taught it to, mostly very novice-level, casual gamers, have picked it up and enjoyed it. However, I have had to remind them of the order of a turn.
I agree 100% with Tom on Quacks needing upgraded chips. The base white cardboard components get touched so much that the edges get rounded and feel different in the bag than the less used non-cherry bomb (non-white) ones.

My favorite way to play Wonderland's War is with 5 players. I've got an insert that makes setup a breeze which saves a lot on that play time. Between that and being fluid with the rules, I get games done in less than 3 hours without an issue.
Rift Force is amazing, not forgettable. She's. Great lists, though! Mille Fiori and Evergreen are much higher for me, but I'm glad Mike and Zee respectively have them on their lists.
Evergreen is such a good game! But the expansions are essential for me. Otherwise it all becomes very same-ish after 8 games or so. But with the expansions (simple, modular, complicate nothing but bring variety) - it's in my Top 25 of all time.
Zee have you played much jumpstart for magic the gathering? You take 2 half decks that are in booster packs and combine them to make super balanced games.
I really don't get the beef with long games... I get that it reduces the opportunities you can bring it to the table, but I don't see how length can be used to somehow diminish how good a game is.
Yah Yamatai! I love yamatai. I think it is a better two player game than 5 tribes. The ship turn order thing is better in 2 player than the bidding is IMO. There are so many double turns in 2 player 5 tribes, and doing the mental calculation for a double turn in 5 tribes is a nightmare.
I have a guy in my game group that always go for the ''no one does this '' strat when we mention them and he surprised us sometimes XD maybe we just are too stupid to make them work
I don’t think the odd number rule is at all fair to the first civilization, which could hardly be expected to be as good as subsequent ones but was in fact, a great game
I really disagree about the need of valhalla for midgard. We have both expansions, but sometimes I just prefer it vanilla or with the hunter expansion. The valhalla chits take a lot of the stand up and cheer moments and suck the life out of them. I rolled good and killed the monster / I rolled bad and lost all my dice, but now I get these chits that can buy a thing in valhalla that is just as good. The roll no longer feels as impactful. I get that the bad luck can feel really bad in a fairly long game, but I am not sure evening out the randomness THIS much was a good call. It evens it out too much sometimes.

Other than the known IPs I find I have no interest in most science fiction and fantasy themed games, it is so over done and I know I am missing out on some good games because of my repulsion of the theme. Tidal Blades 2 is a perfect example, I know it is a good game but just cringe thinking about the theme.
More or less strips out all of the meanness from Photo. The drafting mechanism is pretty slick in Evergreen. I grossly prefer Evergreen but the shadow mechanism is very similar.
Forest Shuffle broken? I have played it many times and everytime i see different strategies and all of them pays off, someone going for wolves, another for Beech Maartens and a third for Bats, it pays off and is a close game, i dont see any 1 card being absolutely better than another, maybe those who think so are just bad at the game or improvising, otherwise you might aswell give up after getting your starting cards
Wolves and Deers left unchecked will win without significant luck on the other side. There’s data on it. DT discussed exactly the predicament, you can stop it, but it means you’re not playing “your game” anymore. My bigger irritation is that the design team knew it and didn’t think through how to fix in expansion. There argument was dilution, which there aren’t enough cards to truly dilute.
@@ConeDefense I have not seen this data, perhaps i have not played enough, though i think have played it plenty, but i have not experienced one strategy, like wolves and deer, being the absolute better option, there is offcourse luck, you gotta draw the right cards, but it is not my experience that it is super unbalanced.
You are likely correct that not a lot of young people vote. I play Pokemon with my son and while I enjoy the game and the collectability, I wouldn't put it on my top 100 list. I've been playing collectible card games since the mid 90s, there are probably ten games in that genre I enjoy more that have sadly died, while Pokemon stays strong. Pokemon cards are collected even by kids who have no idea how to play the game. So its a great/ successful product, but I think most adults, myself included, find the gameplay to be weak.
Unfortunately us Pokémon tcg players get shafted. Those of us who love it, love it. Not sure what others see in many other (and many dead) card games. I’ve played Pokémon competitively over two timeframes, and it’s always been great from a comp perspective
@ttocsisme it's the in the top 3 tcg games. Magic, pokemon and yugioh. I think alot of people just collect the pokemon cards and skip the fact you can play the game. Every rotation brings new cards and strategies.

Honest to god, I love you guys but MIKE! Just explain why YOU like the game. You don't need to convince us that the game is popular or beloved because that's not relevant! And for most of your games, it's not the case LOL Just stick to what makes it one of your favorites and then you don't need to lie about how good velcro cups are or how often your cats make beyond the solar system. "I make it there every game." became "Someone usually makes it there every game." And even that I don't believe hahaha
Other than the sun moving around the board and trees blocking, they play very differently - check out our reviews of each! They have the same theme but that's about it.
Mike is a legend. At the beginning when they talked over one of the names, i thought "I'd be so disappointed if i backed them and no one heard my name." Only for Mike to go back and have Tom re-read their name. What a dude.
Truly the best entertainment of a top 100.
I really love that Mike highlights games from Asia!
He does too! ;P

IKR? I am STILL laughing my ass off
Mlem is probably my favorite game from last year! I bought it because I trusted your review Mike! And of course the cats.
Just wait 'til you play Celestia! You'll never go back.

Yay Tom, You're the man! Revive is my favourite game of all time. Just always fun.
When zee started singing "you gotta drink from the velcro cup" and then the music kicked in, I legit thought they had made a full song of it for a second! 😂
Tom’s ocean teet treat had me cracking up 😂
I am so glad I picked up Yamatai, based on Zee’s recommendation, when it was first released!
Played Quacks for the 1st time last weekend, makes my top 15!
I need to try this game.

"Mini game shaming." 😂
Jackie Fox and flea market reminds me of Spinal Tap and puppet show. I promise no jazz fusion.
Hahaha, the most entertaining ‘top games list’ out there.
Tidal Blades 2 is on the top of my list of upcoming games!
Bgg has entry for quest of El Dorado expansion collection. All promos and expansion in 1 box
I don't think they really understand the Bill and Ted joke. That's OK. I'm not going to be the one to tell them.
Tom thought his #64 was an expansion to Quarriors when he first heard the name
Heat makes my top 4!
My favorite way to play Wonderland's War is with 5 players. I've got an insert that makes setup a breeze which saves a lot on that play time. Between that and being fluid with the rules, I get games done in less than 3 hours without an issue.
Mr. Jack! Yeah!
Good afternoon!
Zee is always getting me interested in Evergreen!
My favorite dexterity game is Hutchenspiel. It's a German game I grew up with about flipping cones on to a board.
Velcro cones that are now refurbished for dice rolling??
I think the word you were looking for during the Evergreen pick is "Evocative".
This is what I was looking for
Imho I think they were searching for the word "Ubiquitous"
Pretty sure he was looking for the word eponymous and just couldn't remember how to pronounce it or was getting it confused with eponym.
23:00 Year-end highlight: "You're not involved"
Nothing like the Las Vegas beach front property on the west coast
Rift Force is amazing, not forgettable. She's. Great lists, though! Mille Fiori and Evergreen are much higher for me, but I'm glad Mike and Zee respectively have them on their lists.

Champions of Midguard a top 10!
I really don't get the beef with long games... I get that it reduces the opportunities you can bring it to the table, but I don't see how length can be used to somehow diminish how good a game is.
It’s like a book - a long book is great if it justifies its length. If not, the length is an issue.
Quest for Eldorado is in my top 4!
For Zee’s Number 65, was the word Zee was looking for Indicative?
I have a guy in my game group that always go for the ''no one does this '' strat when we mention them and he surprised us sometimes XD maybe we just are too stupid to make them work
Twilight Struggle! Yeah!
Knizia is the DiCaprio of board games and Keltis is his Revenant
I always saw him more as a Nicholas Cage.
Civ 5 is way better than 6 or at the least in no way a bad Civ. Zee's odd rule is malarkey.
It's not just Zee who says it. I'm glad you enjoy it, but I personally think 6 is twice as good as 5
Civ 5’s aesthetic is much better than 6’s, but I think 6’s gameplay is generally better, though I miss permanent builders
I don’t think the odd number rule is at all fair to the first civilization, which could hardly be expected to be as good as subsequent ones but was in fact, a great game
Zee's #69 is actually Bill & Ted The Game lol?! After Tom's joke?!
Tom needs to visit Mexico City… it’s Tay (like yay)
yo (like bro)
tuh (like King Tut)
wha (like what)

I will say that Men At Work is a better band than Tokyo Highway.
