Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Daaaaaaaamn. Tell your dad not to feel bad I slugged my claas 780 last year 3 times haha and needed a Sawzall to cut the canola straw apart. Soaking wet straw. We did change the impeller afterwards and holy cow now it races through green canola straw
Man I want to be a rock star combine driver like Katie... just show up after all the service is done and run it until it breaks :)
Glad it didn’t go through the rotor, our beans were heat stressed here in south central Illinois. Hope you guys have great harvest
It went through the rotor
Haha just wait until the next video...
I just found your channel last week and have enjoyed every minute of content ive taken in. Hate seeing your luck in this video. Hopefully things turn around soon!
Throw the black cat aside and get down on your knees!
God save the Dole farm!🙏
Hard to believe that long rod can lay in a field year after year . Then it gets sucked up into a combine at the perfect angle to do so much damage .
Lenny is growing up fast !
Really enjoy your videos. Your humor cracks me up in the previous 2.
That sucks finding old treasures with a combine. Hoping all it comes down to is a sheared coupler.
As far as New Holland goes, it isn't as picky for it being timed, but it helps with feeding evenly through both rotors. What's more important is the balance and nothing else was damaged or missing from the piece of steel. Keep a feel out for any abnormal vibrations.
Friend had a split rim off a truck end up in his machines while combining corn, 20k later he was back in business!
Enjoy those moments, as a father we dont get near as many magic moments with our children. Working life always seems to get in the way. he is ansum lad, wont be long until he is learning to run the tractors and farming then you will look back and realize how important these moments were. My daughter is 16 and at College now, we are best friends and always into mischief but I do look back and miss the little things in life. Farming is a way of life not a job, without farmers the world grinds to a halt. anyway love the dino wellies, I had frogs as a child, wore them until I walked a hole in the sole. happy days
This is a really nice comment. I try to keep this perspective in my mind when we are busy, but life can be challenging and hectic at times. Thank you!
Mike Mitchell has videos he lives in Canada. He’s done the same thing to his combines. It breaks this year collar off the back of the rotor. It’s a pretty good size job to do it though.
I've seen his videos. I really didn't think that would apply to our crops, but it definitely does.
@@aTrippyFarmerthey did fit a pip to mikes combines...made no difference unfortunately.
Men of culture, i see
Well, that sucked. I can only imagine how expensive the fix is going to be.
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always, Andy!!
For you Katie enthusiasts, just remember what happened to Daenerys Targaryen in season eight of Game of Thrones. With low commodity prices limiting Andy's writing budget, this show could go off the rails at any time.
X9's don't like green plants. Million of Dollars went into research on that machine for that to happen.
That looks like a Mike Mitchell X9 experience
Love the vids, keep up the great content
Nate I could've told our twin rotors in our X9-1000 combine doesn't like green stem soybeans and our single rotor doesn't like green stem soybeans ether
I know the feeling bean dust is the worst. Spent the last week unloading trucks into bins. I’ve had my share of bean dust. Nothing like at 8 in the morning taking a face full of dust opening the gate on the truck. And as for the cat milk or a can of tuna
You wake up feeling somewhat refreshed, and you immediately get baptized back in it the next day!
Hope harvest gets better and better luck with that X9.
I love trains and farming perfect video
Thanks
Great video good to see y'all
Amazing videos
I thought that black cats were bad luck anyhow😂
I'm a little disappointed the X9 didn't grind up that small steel rod and make metal shavings out of it. I was pretty shocked to see a bar that thick and that long make it that far into the machine TBH. Hope you guys get it all squared away without too much hassle. Really cool to hear you say the combine in front of you was your 90 year old grandfather. Holy smokes, there's a man who's seen a lot of various farm machinery over the course of his life. I always wonder if the old timers are mind blown by the tech these days? Then I think of myself and my approach. I'm old too. I just roll with the flow and only talk about the old days if it comes up in casual conversation. I'm still fascinated by the very thought of a 90 year old farmer running a modern combine down the road. That's just second level cool to this old dog. Thanks for another great upload Andy.
That's the downside to the feeding capacity of these big machines. They have to ingest so much crop that there is a lot of clearance. Obviously, that means there is room for larger objects. The stars had to have aligned for something of that size to feed in perfectly, but it did. I think the technology is actually a bit overwhelming for the older generations. My dad has a hard time with some of what we use. It doesn't help when they change operating systems and procedures over the years, because it switches the buttons and pages around that have been memorized. My paternal grandpa passes away almost 20 years ago. He was always tech-savvy. He had the original blackberries and computers and such. Ironically, he was almost more tech-forward than my dad. I often wonder what he would think about today's technology and equipment capability. When he was alive, 150 acres of planting was a good day. I can do that in less than 3 hours!
@@aTrippyFarmer Amazing Andy, thanks
I prefer the ymca dance for the grain tank cover signal
Andy, I always thought you were supposed to spit after you were around a black cat…lol. You can tell the new sickle from the old one cause they don’t look alike🤣now that’s deductive reasoning 101 right there🤣Lenny is quite the character, reminds me of my grandson, when he was that age. Y’all take care🇺🇸
Yep... I am full of wisdom... haha!
@@aTrippyFarmer doing great love the channel…
I knew when you were trying to get good luck out of a black cat you were going to have a bad day lol 😂
Wow. Jim is 90? Time flies. Seems like 5 years ago, HIS dad Jake let me take his Honda 3 wheeler (those became illegal pretty quickly lol) on a rip. I was probably 10? I remember that the Doles - and Jim - were John Deere farms, but Jake ran Olivers, and later, Whites. Also, Jake had a new Cadillac sedan DeVille every couple of years, and Martha always gave me Livesavers Sweet Storybooks (10 rolls of Lifesavers candy in a book-like package) every Christmas, and let me play on the pool table in their house. Strange how many childhood memories disappear, but I'll always remember Jake and Martha.
He just turned 90 and is still impressively active. He and my uncle Dave run the farm together with some help from my Grandma. They are salt-of-the-earth type of people. It sounds like you may already know that! So many things change over the years and yet so much remains the same all at once...
What kind of camera do you use? Looks very nice.
Oh man. The left rotor drive coupler is not the one you want to replace. Gotta take the rotor drive shaft off and a step to get access to the plug on the gearbox for the fusable link/shaft. Not the worst job, but would be nice to have eyes on your fingers if you are going to replace the shaft. And timing the rotors is pretty easy. There are holes in the rotor flighting that line up with holes on the front support.
That was our initial thought in terms of the issue. It is actually much worse than that. The video tomorrow morning will tell the extent of the damage. It's a dandy...
Thanks for another great video.
Is Katie your sister-?
I’d call that silage not just green stems. Lol.
good luck from sweden
Oh dear that is what Mike Mitchell did last year slugging his x9. Snapped rotor shafts. He never stopped moaning about it.
We ran out of power before we snapped anything, but the steel rod did a tremendous amount of damage.
We had one cat that loved 18% coffee cream. A can of tuna, or even just the juice would be a big hit.
Tuna might buy me some favors, but I don't have any of the horrific stuff around...
@@aTrippyFarmer I agree about the tuna. YUCK!
I see Diddy had a freak off party in Katie’s Draper. 😂
If possible extend your flighting and get rid of the fingers we did that on our case heads and life is good
Well Andy, some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you! Hang in there.
That is the truth!
we need a picture of your grandpa running the combine at 90. glad he is still active
I'd love to but we stay out of there way!
So an interview would definitely be out of the question
HEL must be determined on soil type and not so much grade, at least in that field right, Please forgive, I'm not a farmer I'm just trying to understand and you are my favorite teacher :)
There is ONE area that a humble organic no tiller can gloat about… soybeans. I’ll never see the 80-90 bushels a lot of people get, yet alone the 100 plus, but 50’s with a .9 bean, and already made 1 grazing pass on the cover crops I blew on off the back of the header, and sent a swarm of mini dinosaurs (chickens) behind that… you have to give me this one. I don’t get much to gloat about. 😂
You like animals I see. Just like my farm. Cats and dogs everywhere. And chickens. lol.
I'm over budget on animals 🤣
Slugged the rotor? Looks like he was chopping silage
I’m not sure he knows what that is! Lol
Gotta get a fuel trailer!!
You should have had Lenny put duct tape on that hole!
Your son is adorable
"X9 voodoo doll" funny ask around at church for a witch doctor?
thx
Did you end up with different hopper extensions?
Yes. We got the power hopper topper brand
@@aTrippyFarmer that’s not what you took off right?
I am new to the channel ,who is Katie.
Yea Green paint might cost a little more but DANG it's such a pretty shade of Green don't ya think? (besides if it's red leave it in the shed) .................. OOps did I type that out loud 😉 just kidding
Wow Trippy. That black cat has to go! Bet Marty had some working words for the breakdowns in this vid. Lenny couldn't even fix those problems with his tape. He is so cute👍
Love your videos. But why don’t we see Katie and your dad much.
Because this is my channel, I have the camera, and I don't ride around with them all day... hahaha!
Blow the rotor coupler?
Even worse... check the next video!
From watching farming videos, I don’t think the X9 is all that it is made out to be
Hi there ive got an x9 its a monster of a machine I harvested 20,000 acres with it last year not one break down the out put of this machine is double our s780
I think you only see the breakdowns on here if you are plugging your machine its obviously to green
We farm in Australia
Got a big rock yeaterday never made it to feeder house slip slutch went off gladly
The lord was looking out for you!
GREEN CROPS ARE NOT GOOD FOR ANY COMBINE ANDY KEEP YOUR HEAD UP STAY SAFE AND METAL BARS AREN'T GOOD EITHER
What did Katie do???
👍👍😎
Who is Katie
Andy’s sister and combine driver.
time to call ZK Mastertech?~
He would be a good person to ask...
Moon chickens
First!
Thanks
