Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

5 or 6 combines in the area suffered serious issues??? That puts me into conspiracy thinker mode almost instantly. The size of the steel rod that went through your machine is insane. It makes me wonder why you were able to go right over it when planting? Sorry for all the troubles Andy. Your dad shows his leadership skills by maintaining a cool head, at least in these videos. That's the sign of a true professional. Thankfully, Sloan's had an extra X9 around for you to rent. I hope the rest of the harvest goes much better for y'all. As usual you had some great visuals in this one my friend. Thanks for taking the time to shoot the video and then edit it. I know on top of everything else you have going on, it's a ton of work It's greatly appreciated. See you on the next one.
He’s a sweetheart Andy. Enjoy his childhood, if you do he will.
Best line of the video; “ANDY! I have a heated seat!” Marty the Red Baron is the best!
The things that a man will do to his own machine to get a heated seat... 🤣
It’s like a broken combine doesn’t matter after cheese crackers and heated seat! Gotta love Marty Cam!
Bet he’ll regret getting an x9 without the heated seat after using the loan one
Andy, my friend has a combine that he could not calibrate, he changed the clean grain elevator chain and now it works. Check how much the paddles have worn.
Look up never spill spout it’s awesome for filling bins and we always mount a camera on our auger so we don’t gota stand way up on a 42000 bushel bin lol cheers happy harvest from Saskatchewan
“I have a heated seat now”.
Lol, that’s great.
Hard working farmers, no doubt about it. Tough few day, blue skies, good beans and high yields heading your way...and less breakdowns too!!!
Mike Mitchell can almost unplug the X9’s in his sleep because of how often he plugs. His used S series combines may harvest less acres per hours but plugging the choppers generally isn’t an issue.
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always, Andy!!!
Trippy, the Marty cam made me think of a new name for your dad, "The General" heated seats and all!! Directing things from the seat of the X9 and taking no prisoners out in the field. Love seeing your dad at work. Hope the bill at Sloans is not real bad and we will see you in the next one. The black cat still has to go.
That rental machine should be covered under insurance along with the repairs.
33:07 I remember watching mikes first videos with the x9. That was concerning and funny how much he plugged it and how bad it was. Also you should name the black cat Lucky
But I hope u get er figured and have a great rest of harvest. Good luck gentleman
Good video good to see y'all
For a break down like this in the UK we would look to our insurer to cover the full cost of the repair. Its not a break down caused by wear and tear but by a foreign object. Guess its down to your policy but insurance costs enough every year you should make a claim for sure. My heart goes out to you but I'm glad you could get a replacement so quickly.
That’s actually surprising to hear. I’m not sure if US insurance policy’s would cover something like that. And a lot of times when a farmer does make a larger claim they’ll likely get dropped afterwards anyways
The cost of insurance, the next year would increase for sure but it's such a large repair cost it would be worth it otherwise your cash flow is going to be smashed. Hope you get it sorted soon, we'll pray for you tonight
😂 they got a X9 im pretty sure they’re fine
I have a black cat,female..such a nice cat..has very soft fur...she don't like be held,. She has never sat on my lap, unlike my siamese that is my lap constantly
We've ran S670's with 35' drapers since 2013. They are definitely very solid machines. We have the extensions on the power fold the hoppers which gives us a 425 bushel capacity. What I've found in most cases, Is newer does not necessarily mean better. Best of luck on the rest of your harvest.
Why would they not design it with a magnet in the feeder to shut down down the machine if a large piece of metal is being fed into the machine.
Those harvest daysbthat run deep into the night are stressful. As a semi driver i was often among the last to come off the field. I then had a load for when the elevator opened in the morning. I sometimes slept in line at the elevator.
Dadgum it Andy, quit messing around with that black cat🤣ole pops is a hoot…Marty cam is #1👍🏻
Farming. It is what it is
Farmers have no problem dreaming where they could spend extra money if it existed. Grain storage is a big investment that requires many years to get a return on your money. Grain dryers are nice for the wet years but the cost to operate are insane.
Hey check the spread it looks like it could be throwing it up against the standing crop
I have no knowledge about combines but we have big John Deere silage choppers do work here. Metal detectors are standard on foragers of all brands.
As an experienced chopper operator, I have always wondered why they don’t have any form of metal stop on combines. Might have to do with the nature of the feed rolls as the detector on the chopper.
My buddy is the one fixing ur X9 😂😂😂😂
Our dealer 21st century equipment says that they will give you a loaner machine at no cost to you. If your piece of equipment breaks and it’s down for more than a day. I guess they took a hint from fendt
And for grain marketing I would check out ever ag
I think the problem with your luck is the black cat. the problem with that is the cat has some white on it, it needs to be 100% black if the cat has any other color than black (besides the eyes) it wont work
Hate to think that steel bar was sabotage, but it showed up since planting. Also had so many other farmers with same issues on same day. I don’t believe in coincidence. Also I just realized the resemblance between Marty and Sam the eagle on Muppets. 😜. Here’s hoping for better days ahead.
We had some tile ran two years ago. It could've just been missed or the disk ripper pulled it up last fall. Something you just don't see until it's too late.
The heated seat comment your dad may wanna just trade up.
I have heard of certain anti farm activist groups have been going around and tieing pieces of rebar to corn stalks just for the purpose of destroying the farmers combine. Since there was several incidents in your area, I wonder if they struck your field...
I feel if you like it, it would be a good time to trade! I know it’s not the plan, but in farming things can change on a dime! Good luck!
That steel rod didn't walk itself into your field.
I've heard of farmers planting crap like that.
Good morning
$600 an hour i figure to rent the x9, plus repair bill on x9, I think that would be stressful.
Oh no you're too high on the rent. It's actually pretty fair. I was just being dramatic.
That heated seat might be all it takes to keep the 1100.
This is too much combine for us to have in corn. The 1100 is also about $130,000 more expensive than our 1000 model, so I don't think that trade is happening, even if it would be fun.
@@aTrippyFarmer WOW, what a difference. I guess you can always buy him one of those heated seat cushions that plugs into a power socket. Haha
In a situation like this, is there an option trade in your current machine before or after repairs? or is that financially an even worse decision?
At least it did not catch on fire. I'd say that's the worst thing could happen to a combine.
You're right, but you'd at least get a full replacement if that happened.
You should name the black cat Lucky
Your dad looks like country Greg Norman
I can see some similarities, except he is terrible at golf...
just trade for it Andy
Are there any plans to update your bin site to hold more of your harvest on site
better luck!
Is this Combine bigger than the other one? "I don't know" right as he goes across a narrow bridge. I hate driving over homemade bridges like that in any vehicle. Best of luck on the repair. Too bad that John Deere does not have a sensor for a steel bar headed towards the rotor.
I think katie needs to run the x9. Think she's gotten more done in the 670 than the x9
It's hard for the X9 to be productive when it's either plugged or broken 🤣
@@aTrippyFarmer katie seems to have better luck 😂
Hi newsub here from the Uk, been watching a few of your vids, great content. Does anyone over your way offer a service where they fly a drone over your fields to make sure they are safe to harvest? Cheers!
Your dad will remember when a combine operator needed to watch the whole cutter bar for rocks and "foreign objects" and even though, these days, combines are operated by autosteer, I'll bet he can't help but kick himself for not seeing the bar or pipe. Take it easy on him.
The heads are so big, the machines moves so fast, and even moderately yielding crops are so dense that it is impossible to see everything. He is probably our most diligent operator, and we normally have picked up any debris that we have seen before it can get in a tire or machine!
deere needs to look at that and do some kind of PIP on it that x9 not doing well with green stems is shit
You guys farm around Tower Hill? I grew up not far from there
Hope you get back in action. That sucks
Oh crap,, nothing like combining beans for nothing until this is paid for
Hopefully insurance will help
Do you, Katie or you dad ever do any power shut downs to actually see how the combines are working? Or do they just drive?
Personally, I would never shut off the separating system while it is full of material. That is asking for trouble, regardless of what other people say. You can tell everything that you need to know by looking in the grain tank and behind the combine, which is what we do.
@@aTrippyFarmer really a good way to see where your loses are and gives a good idea of what settings to adjust for maximum efficiency. Jd equipment plus app tells you how to do it. Should try it. I did a few on the weekend and found I wasn’t getting a full thresh on beans. Showed me what to adjust. Sloans even have a bunch of videos on doing it. 👍🏻
@@BGFKevin I believe you, just always been told to get the machine empty before shutting it off. I guess the worse thing that could happen is breaking a belt!
@@aTrippyFarmerit is quite literally in the manual and is a certain way to do it. Does not hurt anything it is actually recommended
your dad may just say the hell with it and trade yet again for the 1100 model
Put that seat belt on
Like a drone pass is needed to inspect/sonar a field prior to harvesting
Most cats are lactose intolerant, and consuming dairy products can lead to diarrhea and vomiting. You want to look out how the cat reacts ... don't want to provoke any more bad luck !
That could explain how our luck continues to deteriorate...
Isn't this repair covered under the new combine warranty?
It doesn't have a warranty, and a warranty wouldn't cover damage from an object.
@@aTrippyFarmer ouchie.....
Not much dust coming offnthe beams.
Not sure, but does anyone know about feeding cats milk… thought its bad
I keep wondering when it became ok to put a product out there when it's not ready for prime time? It must have been when Microsoft would put out software and then put out a update every othe day, it seems like. Now companies like Deere put out a 100 of thousand dollars machine than doesn't do as well as a older version does. It seems like everything is going that way.
🖖
Why would you be combined and green beans like that most of them are going out the ass end
a lazy boy massage chair is about 1000$ to 3000$
Welcome to Juan Duure !!! Cheep ! Cheep ! Mutha Fockers ! instead of steel weldments ,,,they use Cheep cast iron ! if It was steel , 4 hours cutting , grinding , and welding , back in buisness !!!!!!!! I have no idea the price of a rotor , which isn't even available , or the in and out labor ?
A good dealer would just let you run that machine not rent it.
Sorry but you are completely wrong. Why would they let us run a rapidly depreciating machine for free?
@@aTrippyFarmeri guess probably not since you didn’t buy it new but if your x9 was brand new yet with warranty then i could see that.
@@northeastnebraskafarming117 oh I agree. If it had full warranty, most guys would expect a free one.
Woooo! Heard you say Mass a few times must mean your family is Catholic?
Good have been worse: You could have broke the x9 vs your dad!
In Europe we have problem with people hanging bolts or wire on corn cobs. They do that with malicious intent to cause as much damage as possible to forage equipment.
They usually do that because they moved over from town to village expecting peace and quiet..
Never heard of that before, but not that surprised. Worst part is the "damage" it will do to livestock if it actually runs through the machine. 🙁
@@danishpuma it happens in Poland on yearly basis. Earliest report I found was from 2019. Bolts had such force they went through machine and shattered windows in tractor. Noone was harmed but machine sustained expensive damage
Nothing breaks down as much as Deere
Oh and
Nothing is as expensive to run as Deere
God you fellows have to give your head a shake those beans are not ready believe me I know mother nature rules. Don't break your equipment over stupidity
It wasn't just the bar. You'll never convince anyone lol
What are you on about
These x9 just are not worth it. Period. Those things are junk. So many problems. Farmer up here. Has 12 of then by end of harvest 3 were operational
How does sucking up a boulder translate in to the combines fault? That’s prob when the 3 tines were broke off on the feeder.
@@LtColDaddy71great point, wrong machine.
I don't know. These things are the real deal when they are running. It is honestly incredible to watch it lap the S670.
might be time to get a claas lexion on the farm
You are a fool if you think this. Them and the AF11 are the pinnacle of harvest technology
Kids are out paying dad's bills lol 🫠 sounds like Sloan is really doing a great job working with you guys! On a positive note!
Give us some price points how much that misshapp cost you, if you can kind sir.
