    I was using an umbrella in the sun in Southern Japan as a black man, and a woman stopped me and expressed that it must be really hot for me to use an umbrella. I think she meant, "why are you using an umbrella in the sun, when you're already black?"

    • @rosecoiled742
      @rosecoiled742 2 месяца назад +4

      Maybe she did mean that in that way. I mean that she thought the umbrella was helping you by giving you shade and keeping you cooler. Depends on the weather/situation I guess. When it's sunny outside and you wear a dark shirt, it gets hotter than if you have a lighter shade of shirt. That may be how she meant it.

    What we do know, is that there are people who have worn their sunscreen, had a reasonable skin care routine, tried to live an active lifestyle with good nutrition and sleep. The way those people tend to age is natural and good enough for me.
    Certain medical conditions and health problems can also prematurely age us and even against our best efforts we can suffer heart attack and stroke etc...

I really admire his self-discipline with all of this stuff, but when it crosses into obsession, it becomes unhealthy. I read a book once that discussed the psychology of billionaires. After interviewing billionaires over the years the author was left with the impression that billionaires are terrified of their own human fragility. Death is one boundary you cannot buy your way out of. Since most are atheists they lean on science instead of religion to subconsciously process/avoid their fear of death.
    I wonder how his son is processing all of this. I think he is young enough to still be in the “idealizing dad phase.” It must be so surreal to see your “unstoppable” dad be this afraid of a few skin wrinkles.

    • @No-ky3kb

      Death is not scary. Aging/disease and religion are pretty scary though. Unironically, I find Christianity more horrifying than death, which is tbh the most neutral thing in existence if you think about it: An abusive god that wants you to suffer for all eternity for not telling him he's amazing enough, or simply not believing in him in the first place? Or eternal sleep? One of these things is way worse than the other lol. Like clearly the Christian God is evil by any rational measure, but if you're a Christian you have to pretend he's good, like a hostage situation that ultimately destroys your own sense of morality.

He’s in the single digits, and to maintain this lower percentage and still function normally he’s supplementing with testosterone (low body fat at that level decreases testosterone). OK. There is a clause and a sub-clause.
      The sentence of " I don't think he needs your wishes " by its nature refers to - your wishing him well (physically).
      My second sentence of wishing him sanity, is not referring to the nature of wishing, but spesifically his mental health (not physical)
      Finally, I was not attacking you, but poking fun at the idea of you wishing anything for him having any impact when he is "all about the data", and the irony of him being so obsessed with living a long time that he is missing the concept of living well or being balanced mentally.

    I always tell my husband and mom how I’m jealous of how they abused their skin all their lives, but they the only people I know for a fact haven’t used anything other than soap and water on their skin, and not a single cosmetic procedure done to achieve perfect skin that is so slow to age. For my mother, I think it’s because her bone structure is making her age so well (but her teeth seemed to not have aged either, and yes, you can assume age based off teeth). As for my husband, I believe it’s just his great recessive genes. His brother’s all either aged at a typical pace, or quickly. But my husband is in the sun 8 hours a day, the UV index here is high to extreme (7-12) majority of the months each year, but he has yet to wrinkle. He just gets very dark very quickly. Another thing is that as soon as he barely started to get nasolabial folds in his mid 40s, he unintentionally gained 20 lbs and they went away completely! It amazed me because it seems that most middle aged people seem to get jowls or look like an angry frog when they gain weight in their face because they don’t have the abundance of collagen (along with the elastin to even support the collagen structures) to hold up the excess weight in their face. I have to use 4 teaspoons of Verisol porcine collagen daily and sunscreen religiously all year round (every 80-120 mins) along with wearing darker clothes from the neck down when I know I’m going to be outdoors or even driving in the car for more than 5 mins to avoid sun damage, and with all that, I think I’m just aging like most other women my age 😩. I can only imagine how much quicker I’d be aging without the obsessive sunscreen precaution. Guess I take after my father more! 😅

I’m sure the data is mixed on this and a lot of the research that we do have is based on industry studies with inherent bias. Sculptra has been approved in countries like Brazil for a number of years now so we may have some opportunities for more long-term studies, but if you are planning on doing this regularly for the rest of your life than you won’t have any research to really be sure of potential risks.

    As a 64 year old woman, who baked too much in the sun as a teen, I was lucky to develop acne in my 20s. My dermatologist at the time put me on Retin-A, and told me to never stop using it (obvious I stopped when pregnant and breast-feeding). Also, incorporating sunscreen in my daily routine, no matter what the weather. I don't drink or smoke, and follow a vegan diet. I workout at least 4 or 5 times a week. I think all that he does is totally unnecessary. I have few wrinkles, and due to Autonomic Dysfunction, I wound up with a pacemaker, so radio frequency is out for me.
    I think caring for your skin can be way less complicated than he makes it to be.
