That's embodied in the mirror in both Homes... This game has a theme of acceptance, and consistence. Undyne's theme is peppered through all her places. Alphys's is present in her normal lab, and in the true lab, too! No matter where, when or how, after everything, it's still you!
It’s pretty sweet how Toby fox was just like: “yeah, if I got that much on kickstarter, everyone will know I made these songs and not some other guy. No point in copyrighting it 🤷♀️”
So like, I'm not 100% sure but I THINK there's actually a really deep theory/meaning behind this song. This song never plays in the genocide route, right? Because you never meet up with Sans at the restaurant. Well in the Pacifist route, the song does play. And you know how in the original song there is the sound of raining in the background? Well, it all symbolizes that the genocide route ( the rain ) even if covered up by pretty music ( the pacifist route ) is still always there. There's always a possibility it could happen if you choose for it to. And with all the different timelines, and even if you don't play the pacifist route, even if you never play genocide Sans knows there's the possibility of that route. So even if you only play the pacifist/true pacifist route, it's still always raining somewhere else..... if you know what I mean.
Well, when he was talking, (obviously telling the story i think) he said that he had a knock knock practice on he door until he heard a door knock If not, then i may be mistaken
Yes I’ve played the game multiple times on every route and this is correct but sans absolutely knows what you’ve done unless you erase the time line or true reset.
There's a lot of interpretations to this song and the meaning behind it, but yeah! He's a deeply troubled character who, because of the knowledge he posesses about timelines and their ramifications, ends up knowing "too much" It's a sort of existential dread every single one of us can feel. There is always someone suffering somewhere. There is always a place where it's raining. It's always raining somewhere else. Still, he's a positive nihilist, understanding that while it may be raining somewhere else, while somewhere out there, everyone he knows, including himself are being killed by the person sitting in front of him in that moment, well, it's raining somewhere else. Not here, not now.

I find myself reminiscing often too... In these weird times, we realize just going outside with no worries is actually a luxury we took for granted for the longest time... When all this is over and we can finally rest easy knowing we made it, and we remember those who didn't... When we are at last free from this thing, we will know we were a part of history. At last that's what keeps me comfortable for now. Thanks for your comment!
Honestly, I never did go outside much, but even I'm starting to feel it. On Christmas, we went to Top Golf to celebrate. Back before the lockdown, the one time I went to the downstairs lounge, it had some Wii games on the screens and some Wii remotes. There were quite a few people there back then, but when we went on Christmas and me and my bro went down to wait while everyone got there, it was just... empty. No people, no chatter, even the TVs were off and the Wii remotes were gone. Until then, it hadn't really sunk in just how different it was since all I really did was just sit in my room all day or stay downstairs and keep working on homework, but when I saw how empty it was, it just... it didn't feel right. It felt like something was missing. I mean, heck, up until I looked out into the room from the stairs, it still hadn't really sunk in. I had kinda still been expecting that same room full of life and chatter, where I could just play on the Wii there and forget about the stress of school. It hit me harder than I thought it would, you know?

I think this title for the song is a metaphor for how the underground isn't so bad. Saying how outside the mountain they're all trapped in, it's raining. Saying the rain represents how full of hate, loss and grief. Saying that the underground doesn't get the rain, the pain, loss or grief. They live a nice life down there and that, they're better off in the underground. That's what I think the name represents.

One night I had a nice dream, it felt like I was experiencing what frisk might’ve felt after undertale was over, we were in a store and me and Papyrus were looking for Sans and found him in a toy box like a doll and he made a joke and we laughed, I then remember I was drawing a picture with them and I was humming while gold light flickered around and a butterfly flew by and I slowly woke up. I cried when I woke up because it was a nice dream and a better reality than real life is and I haven’t been able to experience that dream ever again and I still hope one day I can go back to humming, joking, and go back to drawing ove again in a happy place.
with a dream like this, there's a possibility that, while not with your favourite characters, you can experience something similar in real life! Here's to hoping you find your happy place!
'It's Raining Somewhere Else' has to be one of my favourite tracks in Undertale, if not in general. The strange, almost cryptic nature of the very name is a perfect representation of what this song embodies in context. Sans talks to you as what could be considered a friend, an accomplice that at the very least isn't inherently stained by the actions conducted by the player. He talks about the simplicity of a good life, and gives a little outlet to his laid-back outlook on life in the Underground and even encourages the player to just desist and enjoy the little world he lives in, almost reminding the player of the three-dimensional nature of the characters due to the great amounts of character-building throughout many moments in the game, whether it be Papyrus' dynamic with Sans and the player, Snowdrake's family or the secrets and insecurities that Alphys poorly contains. It's a fairly slow and relaxing song, really adding to the thoughtful essence of the song, to the point of it almost being wistful depending on your attachment to the game- which I think fits perfectly in this context so far into the game, alongside being with a character that is impressively convoluted and a very distinctly two-sided coin. This is the only major time we can see Sans directly threaten you in the Pacifist Run, which demonstrates the aforementioned two-sided coin comparison rather well as he switches from chilled, relaxed and friendly to, with little warning to a cold, unfamiliar and hostile to what the player may have seen of him so far. It's an essential moment in the game with clear thought-provoking characteristics as it puts the question of the depth of the game in such a well-executed way, with the relation between Sans and Toriel opening us as a player to the connections between certain characters, or the mentioning of how life is down in the Underground being a way to remind the player of the experience they've had in the Underground, the referencing of friends harks back to Toby's development of the wacky characters in Undertale. His questioning of whether the goal of leaving the Underground is really worth it really aids this, too as it puts the question, in this world where choices can be significant, whether the choice to proceed and leave is really the ideal outcome. It really makes the player think that there may be more to the fairly flat, uninteresting story of 'child goes through Underground, kills king then leaves' to a level of almost treating the interactions with the characters like treating real people one could empathise with, which is an effect that is very hard to do right in storytelling. The story of the knocking on the door jokes develops shows the surprising connections Undertale has, whether it be references, leitmotifs or full-on character associations like in this instance with Sans and Toriel. The line '...You'd be dead where you stand' completely breaks the casual nature that Sans builds up so significantly, and is the bombshell of sorts in this interaction. Even in this interaction where Sans treats us so warmly, he breaks it with the sharp, cold line that would catch most off guard. It shows that there will almost always be a side to Sans we have yet to grasp, which just adds to the immersion in the characterisation of Sans as a character, and depending on how you view it, the other characters. The 'It's Raining Somewhere Else' interaction is one of my favourites as far as the storytelling of Undertale goes, as it really reminds the player of the core (no pun intended) nature of the game beyond a fun little RPG. I love this song, needless to say. It's simple, calm yet almost sad nature to it makes it very pleasant and easy to listen to and the background noises add to the experience, making it almost feel like you're in a busy place despite being almost entirely alone in the actual situation of the game. It partially creates the feeling of being small in a large world for once for me. The rain in this particular one really works with this, in my opinion as the relaxing sound of the rain works well with the calm complexion of the song itself. Something you could drift away to, one could say. I've listened to this on many occasions, especially in around December 2020 and early 2021 and has been an enjoyable experience consistently. Thank you!
Very well said. I’d like to add on to this. the implications of the song name is important here as well, “it’s raining SOMEWHERE ELSE” as we all know sans knows about the timelines changing, the somewhere else part implies that Sans knows in another timeline everything is going well for him and another one he is being killed, of course I’m not saying he remembers timelines or anything but the anywhere else implies he knows that no matter what he does everything is just going to be…reset. What’s the point of even trying? What’s the point of reaching the surface? It just further adds complexity to sans’s character. This song is massively underrated it’s such a great leitmotif. It has many layers of complexity and adds a ton of character depth to not only sans but the entire game.
i used to listen to this constantly 4 years ago now it just brings back memories of going to seattle for the first time, and sitting in a train station simple times, those were. simple times

alone in room , mid night , everyone an your family is sleeping , darkness room , chatting in discord server and enjoying , and hearing this what a perfect mood
Man. I come back to this so often when my derealization kicks in. Funnily enough, the part of my life that i spent obsessing over undertale felt the most real, so i come back to these sorts of videos to anchor myself. I can't properly describe what i feel like right now, i'm sturggling with words so i'll come back to this comment and edit it, but it is most deffinately positive. Sans is such a comfort character for me, i relate to him, the way he talks, the way he's portrayed, hell even the chaotic way he dresses. Everything felt like me. So i adoped it as part of my identity, to my betterment or detrement. All i know is that i'm happy like this. This game feels like my home. And i'll treat it as such. -Edit- Firstly, more expansive thoughts. I felt a connection to this game and it's soundtrack simply because of how well it matches together. Toby put some fucking crack cocaine into his soundtrack because it is musical opium. Absolutely amazing to the ear. Secondly, i think the reason i got so attatched at that time is because i was still in my early teens, nearing my mid-teens, and an environment where you'd be free of judgement, live with cool pepple and friends seemed attractive to me as an LGBTQ youth. Nowadays i have a healthy environment of friends and a proper support group but... in those dark moments where i don't feel real, this game and it's OST remind me of what that's like.
I'm glad you can find a bit of solace in my video. And I'm more than happy that you found a place to stand on with this game! Truly, Toby has made something incredible with this, and I wanted to help it bring it to more people in a different way. Glad you're along for the ride!
I played this like a week ago and this game hit me so hard by loving the soundtrack especially and the game is really so good. A game with like mega realistic graphics isn't even close of how this game got me I don't how but this game is so special and unique I haven't seen something like this in my life damn
I feel now that the meaning is different like maybe since the song is called: "It's Raining Somewhere Else." maybe it was raining in undertale, but now it is raining in deltarune...
When I played undertale for a 3rd time, I decided to cheat myself the key for the room behind the skelebros house... When I hear this music, and realized what the room was, I was extremely depressed. Thinking about how Gaster had created and raised sans and papyrus, all of them living happily... And then, one day, gaster goes to work at the core, but doesn't come home that night... It's not difficult to imagine how hard that must have been on them...
We don't know if Sans/Papyrus and Gaster are related. The three people could be anyone really. I suppose Deltarune will give us more info. Hopefully solve some mysteries.
It’s not raining here, wish it was though... we have barely seen any rain bc of global warming over here .. but this song always fills me up with comfort and puts a smile on my lips :)
Damn, six years pass way too quickly. Feels like it was just yesterday this game came out. I hope all of you are having a good day and enjoy ye time, it'll pass before ye realize.
Time DOES pass real quickly when you're not paying attention to it, but when you start to reminisce and think about what has happened in six years, you realize you've done a lot of things... Videos, drawings and songs, in my case. Hope everyone can take a moment and think about all the positive changes and the growth we all have had in that period!
Funnily enough I just got Undertale yesterday, so me and probably many others are just now experiencing this masterpiece of a game for the first time. Also, even though I am not that far in the game yet, I can already tell that it won’t be a game that will be easy to forget.
Finished my exams today, still in lockdown, started raining heavily, put this song on and sat in the balcony and enjoyed a beautiful view Love life (Hate school and exams)
i feel this as a song for comfort, when im stressed i listen to this, it make my heart feel warm even when its freezing outside, when doing homework ill listen to this on repeat, ive been playing it for 40 minutes and i doubt itll end soon, i have subscribed. The deep vibe it gives off of emotion just makes the song better it makes all stress fade slowly, i even play this when im trying to sleep it feels right and the name alone gives a sort of settling wave if you know what i mean.
It is a really peaceful song, indeed. It's used masterfully in the game, at least in my opinion. And its significance is really deep... It resonates with a lot of people, and that's why I wanted to do a proper extension of it. I'm really happy you get comfort from this!
I remember I used to play starbound, and I had this super nice seaside diner on an ocean world. I would get one or two people there max, but I would play this song on a piano frequently, and it was so nice. Now I’m sad that I stopped playing and lost the diner in the infinite worlds and listening to this song makes me nostalgic.
God knows how many people have posted their own lyrics for this song, but a drop in the ocean won't mean much, right? Walked right in Sopping wet, and chilled to the bone Grab a glass Just to get me warm Take a seat Take a breath and sigh to myself Feeling so forlorn! Caught your eye Coming over and stoped to say hi Flash a smile, offering a drink What a night, couldn't fight the feeling Oh how you'd change my life! Dak by day, week by week, countless months we grow close Such a strange way, how you draw me in Come the day, you don't answer my call Just want to know, how have you been? You say it's nothing, don't know what I'm talking about Say That that's is nothing wrong. But I could see you shifting back and forth on your feet Why Did I play along! Soon those days are gone and all I knew Is how to think of you! And I won't be long No Not Long I don't know, when the storm had started, I was Already busy searching for it's end Never knew What to say or how to say it Who was I even to lament!? (It's) a sunny day out The birds still sing so sweetly Flowers bloom at last The storm has quelled Still I know It's a small reprieve It's only raining somewhere else!
The first to apologize, is the bravest. The first to forgive, is the strongest. And the first to forget, is the happiest. Forgive others; Not because they deserve forgiveness, but because YOU deserve peace. A quote not by me, but by someone very wise.
I can only fall asleep to this song I've been stressed these past few days as it's final months I need to have 250 hours of prectice work so I can pass college I only have 2 months to finish it
i needed this! i've been using spotify's sleep timer but it never ends at the actual end of a song unless i only listen to it one time through. this song means so much to me. thank you for this, i'm sure it'll help for many nights to come :)
you sir are extremely underrated. frickin chillest stuff i have heard in a while. btw, think you could make a 10 hour version? if no, it cool my brorito.
It always takes me by surprise when I realize Undertale is a lot of people's childhood game. I feel old. Kirby Super Star for the Super Nintendo was my childhood age... Man, I'm old! Still, that's an amazing time to play Undertale. Such a powerful message delivered in your formative years is bound to make good changes happen in people. Here's to a world full of merciful people!!

The reason why this song is called "it's raining somewhere else" is because it only plays in neutral/pacifist playthroughs. In genocide, it doesn't play, assuming it's raining where you are.

Thank you!
well said
Very well said.

@@FrolickShiawase yeah, I know
-Edit-
Firstly, more expansive thoughts.
I feel now that the meaning is different like maybe since the song is called: "It's Raining Somewhere Else." maybe it was raining in undertale, but now it is raining in deltarune...
Oh, that's a good interpretation!
Wdym pls explain
@@fosburyatitsfinest2260he means that it was raining in undertale, and now its raining in deltarune
It's not difficult to imagine how hard that must have been on them...
damn....that is honestly really sad when you think about it...huh....
We don't know if Sans/Papyrus and Gaster are related. The three people could be anyone really. I suppose Deltarune will give us more info. Hopefully solve some mysteries.
i doubt papyrus remembers to be honest, sans might because he can see the resets

Walked right in
Sopping wet, and chilled to the bone
Grab a glass
Just to get me warm
Take a seat
Take a breath and sigh to myself
Feeling so forlorn!
Caught your eye
Coming over and stoped to say hi
Flash a smile, offering a drink
What a night, couldn't fight the feeling
Oh how you'd change my life!
Dak by day, week by week, countless months we grow close
Such a strange way, how you draw me in
Come the day, you don't answer my call
Just want to know, how have you been?
You say it's nothing, don't know what I'm talking about
Say
That that's is nothing wrong.
But I could see you shifting back and forth on your feet
Why
Did I play along!
Soon those days are gone and all I knew
Is how to think of you!
And I won't be long
No
Not
Long
I don't know, when the storm had started, I was
Already busy searching for it's end
Never knew
What to say or how to say it
Who was I even to lament!?
(It's) a sunny day out
The birds still sing so sweetly
Flowers bloom
at last
The storm has quelled
Still I know
It's a small reprieve
It's only raining somewhere else!
The first to apologize, is the bravest.
The first to forgive, is the strongest.
