This was a SUPER helpful video. Thank you for making it. I did get a RESTORER because I'm doing 10' tongue & groove pine boards. I will say that I almost did this by accident, but it works. Since the Unicorn Spit is water based, you can go back over it with a damp rag and clean up the high points. This gives a very similar look to the steel wool, but a lot easier. But it does take a lot of color off. This worked for me, as I'm trying for a more distressed look.
Wow, the Unicorn Spit yellow is BRIGHT! I'm going to have to dumb it down.
    Thanks for all you do!

This was a super helpful video. I'm doing a spit project and burning the wood for the first time. Definitely now thinking pink, red, orange, and yellow are the best colors to use for it. I have however been experimenting with top coats. I usually use a brush on opposed to a spray on coat always oil based but with mixed results. Might have to do some practice pieces but I love how the laquer (spelling?) Looks as a top coat. Thanks for the video and love the dad humor 😊

You know ? I’ve actually had good luck using things on top of things that dissolved the color below because it created some cool effects. Just gotta be careful and not over brush . Those look awesome! Wish I could get the grain to pop that way . I can sometimes. But other times , it’s stubborn. I always work with pine . I do construction and make faux aged wood for walls . It’s fun. Thank you 😊

I really love the colours of unicorn spit. But the problem I find is putting on a lacquer. Tried a few things but automotive spray lacquer is the best so far. But it still makes everything darker. The worst has been a polyurethane varnish. Turned the blue almost black.

Great video. I believe you used Total Boat as a topcoat on this before. Now, lacquer. Your preference? Do you fear the lacquer may yellow over time?
I’ve used a simple krylon painters spray topcoat on spit and had decent results - but I feel I’m missing something still. Maybe it needs more of an epoxy type of coat?

    • @BuildDadBuild

I've used Halcyon in the past, and still do. However, it's water-based and you can't use water-based topcoats with Unicorn Spit. And I like that top coat. Doesn't seem to yellow in the sun.

I’ve used it for years but it makes these wood dyes pop out and continues looking wet forever. I get it at Walmart and it’s called triple thick crystal clear glaze made by krypton. I love this stuff. Only thing is I live in Arkansas and it’s really humid here just like Houston. I have had to come inside to spray on really humid days to keep it from being cloudy. But all in all it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Try it out. Keep the videos coming brother (I’ve watched this one several times and the steel wool tip I just caught lol)

It's bad enough to continually deal with the pop-up ads, but to be forced to watch your own throughout the video is too much. Ya, we get it.
