- Join me as I continue my journey cruising my Narrowboat back down the Llangollen canal heading towards the Shropshire Union canal. I get much needed supplies from the coal / fuel boat at Ellesmere, then moor at Blakemere lake for the night - such a beautiful location. After cruising down the Grindley brook staircase locks I spot something in the water and then do an outstanding reversing manoeuvre (If I do say so myself) to retrieve a lovely barge pole from the water and give it a new home.

I'm like my dad who could learn anything. He often referred to it with the expression of "A jack of all trades and a master of none." I learnt later that we are considered learners in the psychology field. I've done a lot if crafts in my life and once I can do them, I lise interest and moved on. There are only a few basic things in my life that I maintain that are important to me. Also, my values are impirtant and a necessity in my life. Everything else I work at dealing with and appreciating.

Hello Heidi - greetings from Poland.
I'm having a binge day on The Narrowboat Pirate channel today. I'm completely addicted! Off towards The Shropshire Union. An early start to miss the traffic. I think you've got muscles where normal people don't. Pulling the boat into the bank showed just how strong you are. I'd love to know why you decided to give up teaching and become a canal nomad. I'm so happy you did because otherwise, we would never have met.
Poor chap who ran aground trying to get out of other boaters way. But as always, the canal community all join in to help.
Great to see the fuel boats. I guess in the winter, you are dependent on them.
My favourite number? - same as you!!!
I loved the water level shots of the swans and their family. And what an express descent down Grindley Brook Locks.
Pirate Treasure! A gorgeous barge pole. Grab it girl! I liked the absolutley spectacular mooring at Blakemere. What a lovely place to stay.

That is a nice mooring spot,do you guys carry walkie talkies so you can arrange these rendezvous. Second question on the roof the solar panel nearest your helm position seems to be on a box or somesort ,was it originally a skylight?next question in your tunes sometimes you have a "wobble board riff" do you use a synthissizer or perhaps a saw or piese od hardboard?
Myself and Gareth and Lou on the other boat made a plan to moor there if we could get in but sometimes we did carry Walkie talkies if we were doing a lot of locks so we could set them for each other to help each other out 😃 those boxes with my solar panels on are full of crap that I don’t have in the boat such as camping chairs, shelves and displays for when I’m trading for my pirate shop and other bits and pieces 😃😃 As for my music it’s all done using a synth even the drums are programmed in 😃😃🏴☠️
When it’s busy like it was this day, I often wonder what it was like back before the trains when the canals were busy with trade.
I wonder how many boats were on the canals then, and all of the horses too.
It’d be interesting to compare the number of boats then and now hey?

Really enjoyed the video. Lovely photography, you capture that soft beauty of the countryside so well. I do so admire the crew’s funny and pragmatic take on canal snarl-ups, I’m sure If I’d managed to beach a boat crossways with half a dozen captains having to heave-to as a result, my hearing aid would have exploded again due to the stress. I think I better understand now why Captain Jack Sparrow was so driven to ask “Yes, but where’s the rum?”

You or your viewers may have an opinion on this. Is a 'V' shaped hull, e.g. a 'Springer' an advantage or a disadvantage when it comes to grounding? Is suspect that it might ground more easily, but that it might be easier to unground. What do you think?
Ahoy, springers tend to have a very shallow draft so don’t get grounded so much, they also can get much closer to the bank because of their V but the downside is they don’t have much head room in the boat itself though and often need overplating as a much thinner steel was used 😃

How often does the fuel boat guy slip off the gunnels balancing like that?! (yikes)
We don't even have proper canals, but the towpath I walk along (just a bypass from the millpond to feed the hydro in the old textile mills) is always full of those freaky potholes. The embankment washes out in pockets where roots or something have rotted away. I've fallen on my face and twisted my ankle more than a few times. Thankfully never when there's a 5/10K along them. (They usually fill them or spray paint orange around rocks/roots/holes)
Ahoy, yes the towpaths can be quite dangerous as they not looked after like they used to be by the lengths men who used to look after their patch of canal but since CRT stopped all that, it’s now just left to volunteers. I’ve fallen a cropper a few times when stepping off the boat to moor up. Having said that I love the grassy towpaths compared to the awful concrete ones any day 😂😂🏴☠️

I love my Jackery and use it every day 😀😀 I wouldn’t be without it now - running all my printers for my business any time of the night or day - being able to charge my laptop in the evening … for anyone living off grid what’s not to love 😃😃 especially if you get one for free just to show people how you use it 😂😂 love mine ❤️

Hardly any solar this time of year and anyway they charge the boat batteries for the fridge, tv, lighting - all this was explained in my video! There is no way I can run printers, cutters and my laptop off my inverter at night time it will kill my boat batteries which are very expensive to replace - but now with the jackery i can do all that, I can also take my badge making gear to a outdoor market and run it all there too 😄 loads of possibilities
Well I suppose it's good to find a barge pole for free, but really you should have treated yourself to a shiny new one - you have to push the boat out now and then!

When your friend got hurt, I thought it would be handy for there to be a medic boat on the canal that could lend first aid, etc. Maybe not so much for minor injuries, but in case of other events like heart attacks or broken limbs, etc. Cheers!
