Hey Mick, I believe we might have worked together at Future Publishing during the same time! I worked at the Bath office from early 2005 to early 2007, first as deputy art editor at PC Format and then as Art Editor at ImagineFX. Did a few photoshoots with Joby at the Future Photo Studio just a walking distance from the office along the canal, and remember him well, great guy! I think he later married another photographer from Future, right? Such a great time that was, made good friends and loved the atmosphere at the office. A pity I was not a guitar enthusiast then, would have loved to have met you and visit the Guitarist office. I took to the guitar for real about 2 years ago and have been practicing daily, it's been life changing to start turning a real love for music into something palpable in my hands. Keep up the great work! Best, Marcelo
I am absolutely super happy today. I got a Laney L5t 112 tube amp today. I was just so sick of constantly tweaking my katana and pretending it was brilliant. The L5t just sounds brilliant. Couple of pedals. Tweak a couple of knobs and your away. I think it’s the best amp I have ever played!! I’ve had it with digital and solid state
I think we would all like to see some footage of you two when you play some gigs, even from a stationary go pro point of view. Don't know if that's asking too much for you guys to think about come gig time, which I would understand, but it would be cool to see you guys having fun jamming out.
Watched this for the third or four time this afternoon and subsequently required to think about the smallest board I could make with existing tools. Yes, its very Five Watt World, yes it's 'tight' (I'm Northern, that's fine) however isn't this the right way to go? Think about how you can squeeze the absolute most from each pedal to protect you during a set. If you feel comfortable in your surroundings - know your gear - you can perform/express/enjoy. Just four pedals, so many sounds, so much expression. Thank you, Mick. (Not least for the classical sounds in the background)

Nice build. Personally, I would have had to slide the quartermaster over and tried to fit in a mini tuner of some kind. Looks like it would have fit. Glad it worked well for you!
Thank you for taking the time to walk us through this. Educational and inspirational! I'm off to redo my metro 16 but not before a nice cup of white tea.

Now we all know that it was the glasses next to the board that enhanced the sound tremendously...🤣. Great setup, Mick. Simple, easy, amazing sound. Setting a mini board up for myself this week. Perfect timing. Definitely using some of there ideas.
Two years ago, I was so much hyped about a big pedalboard. Finally, I sold some of the pedals because I don't feel having a lot due to the signal loss, also just used a lot a delay+reverb, a reverb, two drives, a booster and compressor. I would take the tremolos and reverbs from the amps. Small pedalboards are really nice. And I'm trying to go in that way.
Excellent vlog - as usual! I appreciate the pace, detail, and commentary before, during, and after each activity you record. Very engaging and enjoyable. Thanks!
Mick, for next time, shift the Quartermaster across to the right of the board and use the extra space to flip the delay on its side. Looking at it on video, looks like that would get you the touch more space across the top you want.
I'd like to mention that, for all your humble welcomings of celebrity players and your genuinely starstruck reactions to their playing, you guys are able to host them for a reason. They respect you guys as players and they recognize the huge influence your platform has. Please do pick up your guitars and play with Josh Smith and Joey Landreth etc... etc...! You guys have massive musical vocabularies and are fabulous players. Mick soloing over a Joey Landreth progression would be priceless. Dan chopping heads with Josh Smith would be revelatory. Push yourselves to compete on that level and you're on that level. You have access to those players and they'd love to push you guys to new heights. I want to see an improv video pairing you guys with these guitarists. Nothing planned, all improvised off of each other. Nothing to it but, to do it!
That's very kind - thank you. However there is a respect we show to artists. If they invite us to play, we'll play. Plus, I can't speak for Dan, but when I'm in TPS presenting/producing mode, I find it next to impossible to play with any flow or 'music' because keeping the show on track requires a totally different headspace to being musical with the guitar. It's weird. But yeah, if they'll ask, we'll play. It's important to know that we're enthusiasts and they're artists. In my head there is a colossal gulf between those two things. Cheers!

Interesting, I mounted a PSU on the bottom of a pedal board using velcro as shown here. After a few hours of use the PSU warms up enough to make the adhesive go soft and the PSU falls off under gravity - tie wraps to the rescue. Lesson learned, do not use adhesive on the bottom of a pedal board for things that get warm!
Hi Mick, I know it's That PEDAL Show but after seeing several of your boardbuilds, vlogs and all regular shows (thanx so much, I learn a little something every time I tune into this channel and get inspired to play) I have to ask: Could you do a show on cables? What cables can you use from your guitar to your board, what cables work well as patch cables, is there a "better" cable to use from your board to your amp than the in you use form your guitar to your board, how do contraction, impedance and length affect the cable, and so on... Quite frankly I can't get my head around all the info that's out there, so if you could break it down (preferably with diagrams and sock puppets ) that would be great!
Glad you have to made do with the Pedaltrain cos it means that we’ll have another pedalboard build from you soon now that the proper board has arrived.
I admire Mick's passion for analog audio and pedals... all that work (and expense) for a few tunes at, basically, a house party. That said - for little 'gigs' like this I'd just go for a small multi-effect pedal and call it a day.
The BellEpoch could be turned so that the 1/4 in inputs are facing to the right and the bypass switches to the left. This would add a little space for the Maxon. Nice board!
For the reverse polarity on the Davey Fuzz, take a cable from the isolator and connect it in reverse..You wont need the adapter !! Also mount the Generator near the side if the board to make plugging in the power cable easier , mount the distributor and isolator behind it..
I really love the Truetone CS6 for my Metro 16. It has a ton of power options 18v, 12v, 500ma etc. It also can be mounted underneath a flat Metro series board. I’m sure the Gig Rig stuff is of higher quality but it’s a great budget option for a small board. Couldn’t you have just flipped your positive and negative leads off the distributor for the fuzz? Also, how did you apply the pedalboard tape to the bottom of the Maxon?
Good board, good sounds. Thanks for sharing! Similarly, I have used a PedalTrain Metro 24 to make a grab-n-go/experimentation board. I found that the Cioks DC5 power supply fits nicely underneath and provides enough juice for the 5 or 6 six pedals that can be arranged on the board. Currently I have the Carcosa fuzz, Morley Maverick wah, Way Huge Saucy Box, Catalinbread Bicycle delay, and TC Electronic T2 reverb, and Earthquaker Devices Nightwire trem on there. No room for a switcher, but so far it sounds fine. All these pedals (even the Morley) are of "normal" size-not mini, not large-and replacements can be made easily.
Can you and Dan PLEASE do an all mini pedal challenge??? Not sure if there should be a limit of pedals or budget, but you can only use mini sized pedals. You can call it the “fun sized pedalboard challenge” or something………..
Great vlog, thanks! By the way, if there is only one high current pedal on the board you can “reverse isolate” it. By which I mean, if everything else on the board is isolated, then that one high current pedal that’s left will be isolated and will receive the correct current from the distributor directly.
I have a Deja Vibe. I think the original Fulltone power wall plug is 300 mA. (BTW, it’s 9 volt with an internal 18 v. conversion.) Sometime since, Fulltone issued a bulletin saying that optimum performance requires a 900 mA power source!
Nice little video mick. The power invertor lead sticking out the side of the fuzz is killing my ocd though... Two options - 1. Put the invertor lead under the board and run another lead with a right angle head up to the pedal (it doesn't matter where the invertor goes between the power outlet and the pedal. Or 2. Don't use the invertor - just wire that power lead into the gig rig isolater in reverse - positive into negegative and vice verca. Cool little board though. Finally does the bad Bob boost come before or after the drive circuit of the od? Lovin your work.
Tom Bromby yeah I was thinking the same as your last option, but on second thought the wire might not be removable so that’s probably why he left it like this...
Tom Bromby yeah I guess you’re right! I took a look at the products page and found no information whatsoever about this polarity inverter nor did it show on any of the pictures. My ocd is tripping out as well now 😔
I love that you guys have ‘dear friends’. I’m guessing it comes from Dan originally. Speaks to a more civilised time that we should aspire to (particularly on the internet). Cool video as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Even though it looks totally over engineered for what I would use it for it's awesome. Beats my plywood board with cupboard handles and rubber feet in terms of mini boards
Belle Epoch Deluxe draws 200 mA. I started watching this channel when I started assembling a new guitar rig a few months ago after being out of gigging for awhile, saw the BED on the episode with Andy Martin, and eventually settled on it for my deley. It's a fantastic pedal.
Very impressive sounds out of a small setup! I love it! but that new schmit array is without a doubt the best looking board i've ever seen! More details please!
I just put together my Pedaltrain Classic Jr. I put a Vitoos DC 8 isolated power supply underneath the board. It has A & B ports that are 9/12/18V 1000mA each then 6 more 9 V 300mA. I have one reverse power for my Eventide Pitch Factor. One BD-2 and Xotic SP in front of the amp. BiYang Stereo Reverb, TC Transition Delay, and Nu-X Modcore. I use another board by the mic stand, That has DigiTech Drop, remote for Eventide Pitch Factor. After the Drop signal goes to the wah. Then it is sent to the BD-2&Xotic SP on the other board, I just built. Also, on the mic stand board has a TC Body Rez, Parametric EQ for a piezo signal to a D.I. Box.
Mick if you are running out of an isolator can you just invert that power cable so you don't need an adapter? I understand the reasoning for using the adapter but while creating a small headache also removes stress about damaging the power cable or pedal. Cheers
Nice one Mick, Lovely strat tones, and congrats on a great pedal selection (and sticking with it) , i always end up wanting ‘just one more” pedal on the board.
For the fuzz power cable... why not do the polarity reversal under the board and run an angled extension cable to the pedal? I know it is adding an extra connection (which I would duct tape together) but that dangling bit looks way more risky...
I'm in the process of putting together a mini board myself. However, my approach it's going to be to copy a Chemistry Works holey board design albeit much smaller and out of wood. I'm a bigger fan of using zip ties than Velcro. I'm probably going to go with all mini pedals including a Peterson tuner, Tube Screamer Mini, a first-generation tumnus, an mxr carbon copy Mini and a small power supply. I'm hoping this will work well and a very small stage environment. It's for that situation where you literally get a corner of the pub and your drummer just had to bring the double bass kit or 15 cymbals and the singer thinks he Freddie friggin' Mercury or Axl Rose and needs room to jump around. Also a smaller board is a smaller target for the drunk that just has to tell you how great you sound as he spills on the floor.
Cheers Mick, enjoyed that, smashing little board. Looking forward to the Mark Lettieri interview, loving the new Fearless Flyers tunes. Thought you'd got mixed up with a Dansette record player when you got the new Schmidt board out. :)
I've never seen a board with 4 pedals put together with so much love to detail and such a high degree of engineering. It's so perfectly done, I almost wanna sprinkle some expensive fleur de sel over it.
Thanks for such a quick response! However, if it was as simple as that! I wouldn't have had the need to ask the question in the first place. I imagine you have had the opportunity to ask Dan to explain the in's and out's of all the available power options and what they do, and why you use this one instead of that one.
On those evidence audio cables, they’re great, but you really have to strip off as much of the black layer as you can. It’s conducting. You have about 1mm gap only of white insulation which could run you problems on those cables... I’ve made that mistake and was a nightmare to troubleshoot.
I have a "big board" and two little ones. The extra cost of the additional boards and power supplies is not too big, compared to what I already spent buying 22 overdrive pedals. I have several guitars, and I choose one according to my mood, so why not do that with boards as well?
Hey, what about a video about a vocal pedalboard? I know lots of folks do it. Also, there are a lot of people that dont know how too do it. What with, the difference in high z, and low z, when using guitar pedals. Ive used both a bunch of low too high adaptors, and now a small mixer, for a preamp. There are also, the type that have xlr, ins and outs. Something, too think about. Great video
Interesting to see the whole process from what the purpose is, to which pedals, to how to power, etc. It is quite nice to have a quartermaster, all the generator gear and various length, high quality patch cables just lying around ;-)
Indeed! I appreciate not everybody has this luxury. But that's where we find ourselves. Idiots on RUclips with 30 years of guitar nuttery under the belt!
Mick, Because the too short problem is not infrequent I would suggest another modification that you could attach as needed with stronger mushroom head velcro when needed, just another stick of wood to run under the sticky outy cables, just to extend the safely kickable range of the board, since it seems another 20-40mm on at least one end would have added a helpful margin of safety.
I hope gig rig makes an all in one package type of power supply unit in the future but regardless they make top notch stuff and I hope to own a g3 one day! Great videos guys
Hi Mick! I think you could have just jumped 2 isolators outputs to get 18V, as long as it rather low current. That’s the way I power my Broadcast and Cali76. Nice video!

Two options -
1. Put the invertor lead under the board and run another lead with a right angle head up to the pedal (it doesn't matter where the invertor goes between the power outlet and the pedal. Or
@@mauritscnossen9388 pretty sure you can just unclip them and wire the "proper" way round for other pedals.
Tom Bromby yeah I guess you’re right! I took a look at the products page and found no information whatsoever about this polarity inverter nor did it show on any of the pictures. My ocd is tripping out as well now 😔
Can't go wrong with the Deja Vibe. I put off getting one for years but now I have it and it's wonderful. One of my faves.
I love that you guys have ‘dear friends’. I’m guessing it comes from Dan originally. Speaks to a more civilised time that we should aspire to (particularly on the internet). Cool video as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That Schmidt Array is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen
Even though it looks totally over engineered for what I would use it for it's awesome. Beats my plywood board with cupboard handles and rubber feet in terms of mini boards
@@robdownes5159 It looks like a 50's car. Which is what everything should look like tbf
@@conanbrophy4406 I may have just looked up where to get some sea foam green paint and some chrome handles, definitely feeling the 50s car vibe now
Belle Epoch Deluxe draws 200 mA. I started watching this channel when I started assembling a new guitar rig a few months ago after being out of gigging for awhile, saw the BED on the episode with Andy Martin, and eventually settled on it for my deley. It's a fantastic pedal.
Thank you - I should have just checked the manual, but I figured it'd be more than 125 so opted for a high current adapter. Headroom baby!
Very impressive sounds out of a small setup! I love it! but that new schmit array is without a doubt the best looking board i've ever seen! More details please!
thank you for mention Argentina! you can come over whenever you want.
Box.
Seriously badass sounds! Great stuff Mick!
Great sounding little board!
Kingtone fuzz sounds amazing!
Mick if you are running out of an isolator can you just invert that power cable so you don't need an adapter? I understand the reasoning for using the adapter but while creating a small headache also removes stress about damaging the power cable or pedal.
Cheers
Nice one Mick,
Lovely strat tones, and congrats on a great pedal selection (and sticking with it) , i always end up wanting ‘just one more” pedal on the board.
Its's already in pieces...
Mmmm... white tea! Nature's transparent clean boost.
For the fuzz power cable... why not do the polarity reversal under the board and run an angled extension cable to the pedal? I know it is adding an extra connection (which I would duct tape together) but that dangling bit looks way more risky...
Sounding great Mick, & saved for future reference. I'd buy that Seafoam Schmidt Array just to put my tea on; what a piece of work!
Fantastic episode, and the playing at the ending..........WOW!!!
Whoa name check Jesse Davey! Let's get him on the show Mick! "Big Blues" album on repeat in my car😍
Cheers Mick, enjoyed that, smashing little board. Looking forward to the Mark Lettieri interview, loving the new Fearless Flyers tunes. Thought you'd got mixed up with a Dansette record player when you got the new Schmidt board out. :)
no tuner ? looks like you have room next to the quartermaster
I love these vlogs Mick, really cool.
Thank you!
I've never seen a board with 4 pedals put together with so much love to detail and such a high degree of engineering. It's so perfectly done, I almost wanna sprinkle some expensive fleur de sel over it.
You ſhould ſee my baſs board.
SansAmp BDDI V1-BOSS Baſs EQ-Klone By Tone-BOSS Baſs Driver BB-1X
It’s perfect
A knife with a point on it! Look, an Arsenal! I’ll bet this scofflaw also owns a rusty spoon! 😁
The Catalinbread B.E.D pedal running at 200mA as per catalinbread manual 👍
Thanks for such a quick response! However, if it was as simple as that! I wouldn't have had the need to ask the question in the first place. I imagine you have had the opportunity to ask Dan to explain the in's and out's of all the available power options and what they do, and why you use this one instead of that one.
Always good to have enough resources to 'throw' something together on the fly...
I'm digging the Delay & Vibe! That board looks proper mate. 👍
A plus vlog here. The fun question is :how the Mini Fuzz and Sunface compare and contrast?
Love these board builds!
On those evidence audio cables, they’re great, but you really have to strip off as much of the black layer as you can. It’s conducting. You have about 1mm gap only of white insulation which could run you problems on those cables... I’ve made that mistake and was a nightmare to troubleshoot.
Mark Lettieri?! I can't wait...
YES
Wow just a ts and delay and you got a tone better than some guys with 5k worth of pedals, well done
I have a "big board" and two little ones. The extra cost of the additional boards and power supplies is not too big, compared to what I already spent buying 22 overdrive pedals. I have several guitars, and I choose one according to my mood, so why not do that with boards as well?
Thanks mick- I’m fairly sure the new version Strymon Ojai with switchable voltage would power everything here on a single tiny box.
Nah. GigRig forever. Works for everything no matter what board
Great chops- I must say nicely put together
All On is my favorite part! thank you
Hey, what about a video about a vocal pedalboard?
@@ThatPedalShow Ha! Well I certainly enjoy the guitar nuttery.
'Dual lock isn't as good as what Dan sells on The Gig Rig'.
What the bloody hell does Dan sell then? Magic?
There are different types of dual lock… you can mix and match them to get the grip you'd like.
It's not as good because dan doesn't get paid when we buy it ;)
My understanding is, yes, Dan sells magic of many different kinds ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lol
I cannot believe you had tea with Johnny Marr! That's epic!
hello, you can always put a small raiser on some pedals so you can put pedals closer together without worrying about jacks.
That’s a good shout. Cheers.
Nice video!
