Wow Dan, you've 100% pulled it off! I can not express how great it is to play with this board. The first time I turned it on I thought it wasn't working because it's so ridiculously clean sounding. It is so versatile that it's gonna take me some time to fully grasp all the possibilities I now have under my feet. G3 keeps on amazing me the more I dive in it, and it feels like my imagination is the limit - which is EXACTLY what I wanted. Thanks for the build Dan, there will be a video from my part as soon as I feel like I mastered the board. This isn't something I want to rush :)

Such a shame to see that despite all of Dan's beautiful work, the pedal board lid arrived with a dent in it. I can only guess that something with a sharp edge was dropped on the box during transit. I hope Paul wasn't disappointed. Otherwise, it looks like a fantastic board. I've never seen those small Isolator units before, are they a necessary item on all boards then?

Those isolator boxes (made by The Gig Rig) aren't cheap, but they're worth their weight in gold: you need the power supply for each pedal to be isolated from every other pedal, in order to reduce/eliminate noise - there are a couple of different brands that sell and all-in-one power supply unit, but The Gig Rig system is by far the best out of any I've used...

    • @mdl12321
      @mdl12321 2 года назад +3

@@justinbouchard all you really need is great clean sounding amp and great reverb 😄 . That is the most useful stuff. Of course, then you discover you need 2 or 3 overdrives, fuzz 😆 and soon you find out you want at least one great modulation effect , one great delay effect. And soon you want everything. But most of the time you can be so happy with just clean sound = your core tone and reverb. And maybe overdrive 🤣. If I had to choose just 3 pedals it would be reverb pedal, mild overdrive pedal and valve preamp. Most of the time I would use only clean preamp and reverb. And occassionally kick in some overdrive. Other pedals are only nice to have (for me).

If you think building Paul Davids' pedal board is a challenge, spare a thought for Paul's mother. She has to knit Paul's extra fine jumpers to that nail that preppy, crisp Paul Davids look. She also has to trim his hair and beard to Paul's exacting requirements, or he bullies her and shouts loudly that he is tired of working with amateurs.

It's big, heavy but it can handle everything I had thrown at it since. Hx Stomp - no problem, Whammy AC/DC 12V etc it just works.

Just doing everything through the G3 with the infinite amount of options, would stop me dead in my tracks. 7 midi pedals? And the G3? It’d probably take me at least a month to figure out the programming alone. And after watching Paul’s video of him using this board, I realized how insane the routing through the G3 actually is. Unreal board and in my top 3 boards I’ve ever heard. The sound that he gets is absolutely stunning. This is an expert X’s 20 build.

@@ThatPedalShow Thanks for your reply. But I don't think you read my whole message. Please read it again and you'll see that I agree with you. After what I've invested in my own pedalboard I'd be a hypocrite to say what you think I've said.
Keep up the great work guys!
      Much success to you both!

@@ThatPedalShow Id surely give up my vehicle for that board. The 2 objects do share a problem and that is how utterly useless most of the users of these things appear when its not performing properly and we are stuck staring under the hood so to speak. The music stores near me couldn't even handle changing some tubes on an old mark IV head, their heads would explode if someone brought in something like that. Really enjoyed the video guys !

12:01 Dan, what about Loctite blue on them? I've ridden enough single cylinder motorcycles in my life that I put a little bit of this in my mustache in the morning just to be sure my face doesn't come off.

20k pedalboard? dan, you have the patience of a saint, good on ya! ;) the most important pedal on my board is the 2" square loop switcher that bypass' everything straight to the amp.

Dan you'd have a fit with my board. It's got a raspberry pi with a USB to midi cable flopping about the place, some pedals aren't velcro'd. Oh and one of the feet fell off last week. Also one of the power plugs on the underside actually touches the floor.

    So Dan... Solder-less
I'm personally a fan, as I'm an always changing stuff kinda peddle-boarder.
but there's a certain breed of builder that regards them as less than professional and I wonder if you'd come in to bat for me here?
The bone of contention is all about connections and I keep getting told that mechanical connection is inferior to solder..
I've been arguing the case that there are dozens if not hundreds of mechanical connections in any given setup.
    Pickup Selector. Jack/Socket. Foot-switch. Relays. PCB Socket/Plug.
So the hand full of patch leads amounts to nothing in my mind.
    Is this correct?
    PS NASA uses both....
