My wife and I found your video very helpful when shopping for a new pedalboard for her electric violin. This will be her 3rd board and we're getting closer each time. It was very informational and humorous at the same time. You did a great job!
I'll be 58 tomorrow, so I'm a bit passed middle aged, but I am nearing the completion of what I'm calling my musical midlife crisis. No, it doesn't feel late to me. In fact, the timing is perfect as I'm enjoying early retirement. I recently formed a three piece country/rock cover band after 12 years performing only acoustic music. I gigged heavily before that for 26 years in clubs. With the new band we've acquired all new gear and instruments, the manifestation of my musical midlife crisis. The latest gear is my pedalboard. I purchased the Pedaltrain Classic Jr so I could have plenty of room to space out my minimal amount of pedals with room for expansion if needed. But I enjoyed each new pedal so much that each one inspired another. Now I have 11 pedals and find myself enjoying them so much that I want even more. But I'm out of room and considering a bigger board. My current pedals are an Electro-Harmonix EHX 2020 tuner, a Keeley Neutrino envelope filter, a Boss GE-7 equalizer, a Boss Blues Driver BD-2, an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS808 Reissue, a Keeley Compressor+, a Boss DD-3T Digital Delay, a Boss TR-2 Tremolo, a Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter, an MXR Analog Chorus, and a Boss RV-6 Reverb. Now I'm wanting a looper pedal but have no room. I enjoyed this video! Hook loop love!
I went through a serious Pedalboard obsessive phase during lockdown and built not one, not two but THREE boards using the Pedaltrain range. I started off building a brand new grunge-themed board first, using a Classic 2 for a couple of bands I play in, squeezing on a Dunlop Wah Jr, tuner, 3 drive pedals, a fuzz, a boost, as well as an MD200, and a TC reverb and delay. I even squeezed on an MXR Tap that feeds into the Flashback 2. That was so much fun that I then decided to rebuild my main gigging band board (I've been using an old Diago Showman for many years) using another Classic 2. I ended up actually downsizing my old board and squeezing pedals up; the Pedaltrain app was super-useful for planning these boards. That was a very classic rock themed board, and the one I'll probably use the most, so I opted for the tourcase version. It's built like a tank and will survive being thrown in car boots and kicked around in pubs. Finally, I started jamming with a new band recently, who do Americana type stuff, so naturally that needed yet another new board, but this was smaller than the other two. I used a Classic Jr this time as I was using fewer pedals. Everything has been powered using the pro-grade GigRig modular power supply to get the cleanest, isolated power to my pedals. @@guitarplayer1994 I ended up buying a Classic 2 shortly after posting this… even though the actual board is pretty light, I was shocked how heavy the whole thing was once I got all my pedals, PSU etc on. Currently only playing at home, but when I get to play gigs again, the backpack will be a definite consideration!
@@malcolmgordon2988 Well exactly that's the reason I was excited. I have a classic 1 and it's loaded with stuff that I kind of only rarely use. I mostly use my reverb as always on (or not, depending on the musical situation), my Fulltone OCD and mostly my volume pedal. I'm considering getting an HX Stomp and a nano so I can gig with the HX Stomp, the fulltone OCD and another switch to expand the HX Stomp. I would definitely miss the volume pedal though ... I don't want to carry that much weight anymore ...
I got excited about the PedalTrain backpack. I'm 39. I have friends who gig on Broadway in Nashville, and something like that would be perfect for those types of gigs.
I use a novo 32 with both flight and soft cases depending on the gig. It’s a fab bit of kit, but does take up a fair amount of space on stage, especially as the guitarists both use them too! For acoustic gigs I have the metro, which works great too.
If you're looking at these, you should definitely be looking at the Harley Benton Spaceship range. The quality is remarkable similar and the prices are remarkably different.
I used to use a Warwick Rockboard Stadium Pedalboard with flight case it was huge, I am 6ft 2" and it almost stood as tall as me. I sold it about ten years ago when I had to start carrying it myself and my wife said words like " get that bloody monstrosity out of the house." I now have a much more manageable sized one (11 pedals including a Morley Wah), it has multi coloured led that can be set as a solid colour or it can randomly throw them out, which is the setting that I use. I have had to change a few of my favourite pedals for smaller versions for real estate but the wah and my EHX Synth9 have to stay. It has meant a lot of time with hook loop love. 😎🎙🎸✅
Hook: the title of this video; Loop: the awesomeness of this video; Love: the resulting feeling after watching this video. I'm a Nova aficionado, too. Perfect size, best form factor in most situations! Also, fwiw, I've flown with a multi-fx in one of the soft cases with a Metro16 and it turned out just fine! It was inside a suitcase, but what I mean is that you don't HAVE to get the hard case for smaller boards if you don't want to!
Yes.... I did get excited about the backpack 😂 Wow I'm glad I watched this!! I've been using a mini Wah and volume pedal on a classic Jr. I had no idea about the booster pack!!! Thank you!!
Hook Hoop Love... I am waiting for a delivery of the Terra 42... as I have a lot of pedals so I can create different pedal boards on a daily basis so I won't be sticking down any pedals on the board but will use the fuzzy side of the material to stop any pedals from slipping off. Great video. It was very helpful to see you handle all the boards and cases It gives a better sense of their comparative sizes. Thank you! Hook loop love😎
Hook, loop, loved the video, I've got two Pedalboards setup and just when I find the 'perfect' setup... I've got to take it all apart for an even 'perfecter' one.... that's a good thing.
So.... SC - soft case HC - hard case TC - tour case AC/DC - Australian Current / Distorted Case ? 🤔🛄 Hook loop love! No idea which one I need. I need to watch again lol.
How do you hook up your pedal chain with your pedals so close together? You've got some pedals with side mounted input/output, how do you plug those in with them so close to the ones next to them?
Nice video, very informative, like all your videos, thnx. I found the PedalTrain boards really flexible, they've got a size to fit everyone's needs and I built up progressively as I added more. I've got the TERRA 42 now. It's HUGE, but I've managed to fill it :-). I have everything I need on there, including a 4-socket mains power strip and 10-output 9V_12V power block underneath. Stereo setup - one mains plug and the whole pedal board powers up. 4 x 20-foot flying signal and control leads to backline. BOSS GT-10 driving matched stereo Marshall combos on one side (although sometimes I don't even bother with these, I run the GT-10 stereo outputs straight into the desk), BOSS GA-FC driving BOSS KATANA 2x12 100W MkII on the other side, wah pedals, switched volume/expressions pedals, Whammy DT, Univibe, RC-3 looper, BOSS FS-5 (x2) and FS-6 (x1). Input matrix to separate, switch, swap or mirror stereo inputs across the two separate channels, based on 4 cross-connected DONNER micro AB-Y switches. Everything fits into the soft carry case along with all guitar cables and DI-boxes. About the size of a standard guitar hard case - a couple of kgs heavier maybe. Load-in, setups and teardown a breeze now, I can be up and running or torn down in about 10 minutes :-). (Hook loop love)
My interpretation - the hard case is car-boot proof, but probably not rugged enough for aircraft holds. The "proper" heavy duty bulletproof flightcase is the TC tour case.

Bought a Metro24 to upgrade from a Nano+ and then returned it for a Classic Jr (mostly because of the size of the newer power supply) just before this video came out it seems. This was a great explanation and comparison of the sizes. I kind of miss the compactness of the smaller board if I’m honest, but hard to beat the versatility for my at home practice. I think I’ll keep the Nano+ around to have a more portable option too. Great content. Subscribed!

Tbf when it comes to this stuff it all depends on what you need. If you NEED the space that the biggest board provides because you genuinely need every pedal you can fit on it to play all the songs in the set then that’s still the right one. I like using 2 classic 2’s, got my main board then a secondary one with extra stuff if the gig warrants it, plus then it’s easier to position the mic stand between them rather than off to the side of a bigger board that’d fit two boards worth
Hi! I'm in the market looking for a small board. Can soft cases eventually damage the knobs on pedals? Like does the inside of the bag put pressure on knobs and the pedals themselves? Vs. Hard cases is there space between the pedals and the inside of the case? I have a SansAmp Bass Driver DI Tech 21 pedal that I'm worried about. Thanks any advice would be helpful!
Great video. You have made up my mind. Very educational video. Liked and subscribed. I have an AXE FX III running into Yamaha Studi Monitors, but I also have a Twin Reverb I hardly ever use, so I decided to get some pedals for it. Right now I have 4 pedals and a power supply, but probably will be expanding, so I have decided on the Classic Jr.
If you take the feet off the crybaby it will fit on the metro 20 and in the bag! I love this board, fits all the pedals I need and is easy enough to carry around
Hook loop love! I have a nano and a nano+, I use a Cioks Adam and a DC5 mounted underneath them respectively for power supplies and they're a match made for each other 😁
i make my own. Scmidt array style. I have a cabinet shop so it makes it very easy to do myself. I don't gig either, so my boards are home studio effects consoles. 3 tiers, side glow lighting, base leds and cabinet grade finish....not pine boards and home depot paint. ;)
@@TheGuitarGeek I'd be more than happy to. I'm still working on the final parts, the metal decor and logo. It's been a long journey trying to find a near-by metal fabricator. Once I have it ready for the market , I'll send you a sneak preview before the launch.
hook, loop, love! :) I've only recently got into pedals and recently realized how important the "convenience factor" of a pedalboard would be, even though I only play at home in my bedroom... I'd forgotten I even have certain types of pedals (e.g. wah) since setting up the whole kerfuffle and putting it all away again was such a hassle. streamlining / removing barriers really helps my scatterbrain focus. investing in the "unsexy" utilitarian gear (like a precise strobe tuner) has become exciting to me, haha! I didn't know products like the rucksack even existed, so my middle aged heart got all warm and fuzzy at that. I used to think "why would I spend that much on a pedalboard when I can get more effects instead?" but really, I've kinda had it backwards all along. not 100% certain what my "must haves" are yet on a board (aside from tuner, EQ, boost, looper), but I'm leaning towards something between 18" - 24" wide, with no more than two rows. goal is to have something reasonably sized so I can bring it to my friend's when the pandemic is no longer an issue, big enough to experiment, but not so big that I get overwhelmed by fiddling with the pedals and forget to just play... so all that said, I think I'd go with the Classic Jr. and the rucksack. I like that the hook / loop tape is included and I would want a permanently mounted power supply. I'd have to check the dimensions to see, but I think I could squeeze a regular size wah in beside the Classic Jr. otherwise I'd step up to the Classic 1. time to look up the internal dimensions of the pocket and measure when I get home, I guess? :) I think writing this long comment helped me work out which one to settle on. I'll load up that app to try different sizes / layouts and that'll clinch it. thanks for the helpful video and cheers to everyone on their pedalboard adventures!
I use a classic 1 for Guitar and a Nano+ For Bass. Just bars of aluminum, but I love them. Technically I dont need a board the size of the classic but I like room around my pedals. That way I'm not stepping on another Pedal by mistake.
I bought the Novo 32 purely because I’m running a JVM and a Mesa together, and need both of the amp footswitches on the board, the JVM is a pretty long one.
hooplooplove!!! use two smaller boards, one with the essentials, the other for equipment with higher turnover. Connect both boards through a send/return loop (or more loops, ymmv). Well.... that's what I would do maybe.... because if I'd just want to grab and go fast I would take only the essentials. And of course one of the esseentials would be that orange box thing you got right there :D
Dude, you are the pedalboard ninja!! From this point forward, no one should have authority to speak about pedalboards unless they use a freakin' axe to open their pedalboard packages!
Fantastic Video Andy! With every successive board you showed I was like, yeah - that'll be just about right for me.. I can just get a pedal or 2 more on that one. I've had all sizes in full flight cases, bags and carboard boxes. It's so tough to leave a pedal off a board or basically, be in the least bit sensible. I commit, make the cables, fix on the tie wraps and decide its perfect... then someone sends me another pedal and aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhh! where does it stop! Which board would i get? I'll lose sleep over that one. Stay well and groovy dude.
hook loop love. think Im sold on a larger format -32 x 14 incher. Mainly because I want to future proof it and have extra space when I buy new pedals. I was thinking of using a typical power bar underneath the unit and run a split power cable to all the pedals. what do you think? thanks, great video. I'm now subscribed. BTW you sound like Prince Will. lol
Hook, Loop, Loved this video. Thanks for putting most of the Pedaltrain board up so we could see the differences. I would have liked to see the Classic, since i just ordered one. Classic 3 seems like a taller Novo 24.
Watched the whole thing and I’ve already made my own DIY board out of an IKEA crate - it’s very much a flat packed board 😂 just wanted to enjoy the hook loop love and maybe see the cases
I wish British Egon Spengler were around when I hunted for a pedal board back in the day. Could have saved myself a LOT of money and frustration🙄(Ended up with the Tone Trunk 70 v1 and it has been with me ever since). All though I swapped out the H&L for M3 Dual Lock☝🏼 And ”yes” I’m 43 yrs old now and totally understand the excitment with the different bags😆
HL♥️. For the same reason Andy decides at the end he wants the next bigger size, I recently switched from a pedaltrain board to a Holeyboard. When I want to try out adding something new or bigger, I don't want to have to contemplate buying a new board. Instead I just move a couple screws and it's bigger. I switched the smaller pedaltrain board to my bass where I don't use as many pedals.
I just recovered from snapping my ankle when I foolishly tried mounting a wah pedal on an angled pedalboard. If only I had seen this video first. It would have saved me 6 weeks of wah-less therapy.
Hook Loop Love. I have been using an old PT2 board forever and promised myself to never go bigger. A lot of the venues I have played have very small stages and you can't have a monster board taking up half the stage space...

i make my own. Scmidt array style. I have a cabinet shop so it makes it very easy to do myself. I don't gig either, so my boards are home studio effects consoles. 3 tiers, side glow lighting, base leds and cabinet grade finish....not pine boards and home depot paint. ;)
Id love to see those
@@TheGuitarGeek I'd be more than happy to. I'm still working on the final parts, the metal decor and logo. It's been a long journey trying to find a near-by metal fabricator. Once I have it ready for the market , I'll send you a sneak preview before the launch.
@@Real-time22 sound really good 🤘
How come you plug your pedals into the Zoom H6? Is it because you're recording your guitar?
I have the classic with the hard case and I love it. Looking for a smaller one for an acoustic setup and possibly one for a laptop.
I think you’ll find it here somewhere
hook, loop, love!
I think writing this long comment helped me work out which one to settle on. I'll load up that app to try different sizes / layouts and that'll clinch it. thanks for the helpful video and cheers to everyone on their pedalboard adventures!
Hahaha looooove the intro 🤜🤛
Great I/E video.
I'd go with either the pedaltrain classic or classic 2.
Hook loop love
I use a classic 1 for Guitar and a Nano+ For Bass. Just bars of aluminum, but I love them. Technically I dont need a board the size of the classic but I like room around my pedals. That way I'm not stepping on another Pedal by mistake.
I do like this Rucksack solution ... this could be one for me ... just for a "very restricted" journey/visit some friends with guitars ...
I bought the Novo 32 purely because I’m running a JVM and a Mesa together, and need both of the amp footswitches on the board, the JVM is a pretty long one.
That fas fun to watch ... thanks a lot! Great review.
hooplooplove!!! use two smaller boards, one with the essentials, the other for equipment with higher turnover. Connect both boards through a send/return loop (or more loops, ymmv).
Well.... that's what I would do maybe.... because if I'd just want to grab and go fast I would take only the essentials.
And of course one of the esseentials would be that orange box thing you got right there :D
Yes, the Behringer! And the other one... both!
Excellent video as always.
Just got my Nano wooooh!
yepp. i care for cases a lot. I am middle-aged...
I have the nano but thinking to "upgrade".
thanks for this video.
Hook-Loop-LOVE
hook loop love. think Im sold on a larger format -32 x 14 incher.
Ha ha! Get the backpack!
Extra points for the Muppets Christmas Carol reference 🙌🏻
I have a Pedal Train Classic 1. It's the perfect size for me. It comfortable fits 12 Boss-sized pedals. (hook loop love)
I wish British Egon Spengler were around when I hunted for a pedal board back in the day. Could have saved myself a LOT of money and frustration🙄(Ended up with the Tone Trunk 70 v1 and it has been with me ever since). All though I swapped out the H&L for M3 Dual Lock☝🏼
And ”yes” I’m 43 yrs old now and totally understand the excitment with the different bags😆
Dang - that garage! :-)
I am hook loop and in love with the Nova 32! Maybe if I get that, my cat will stop sleeping on my pedals.
I know I’m a year late but excellent video homie. You’re awesome. Think I’ll subscribe
A pair of metro 20s'll do nicely for some hook loop love.
A pair? Nice!
Nova 32 hook loop love
I couldn't use anything less than the Classic 3- Hook loop love!
I use the backpack and love it, but, I don't use pedal train. I use it with a rockboard 4.2 its like its made for it. Amazing vid. HLL
Which colour of hook loop love gives the best tone?
Thanks for doing this!
You’re welcome
Hook Loop Love. I have been using an old PT2 board forever and promised myself to never go bigger. A lot of the venues I have played have very small stages and you can't have a monster board taking up half the stage space...
A video about your pedalboard would be great ✌️😎
Hook Loop Love ... too many to choose from!
I am at the end. Hook Loop Love as always. Just don’t get it stuck to the fro my bro.
That’s the danger!
@@TheGuitarGeek danger, danger high fro-tage.
