I have a Gator board with some basic analog pedals I currently use in a couple cover bands. I’m looking to build a full midi setup (using disaster area and Morningstar controllers) in a slightly larger pedalboard platform.

Great video! I'm a holeyboard fan all the way! The versatility and construction is the most important. I found the support bracket funny lol when it's the expansion module. The Rig Dr can't know everything😂😂😂. Again, great video!

I just got myself a temple over the summer as well. Great board. I love the modularity. One day, i'll transition into the cioks supplies and the buffered i/o's to mount in the sides and such.
I recommend Rockboard, you get aluminum angled base, different types of patch bays and a hard case (not the best but fine) without breaking the bank

I guess this is good for professional musicians but if you are a non pro, there are so many inexpensive option from everyday products such as foot rests, she racks, music stands (Slanted Top part) etc. There's so much room to route any cabling and mounting options. Again, if you are a pro go for it but for people who are starting up just use any of the stuff I mentioned.
I'm a little confused. . . foot rests and music stands seem like totally different products than a pedal board. Maybe a "she rack" or the others are a different product (?).
Props to anyone that can put that much top spin on "The Bone" pedalboards to make them marketable. Literally the "dogs" in this line up LOL! Well presented nevertheless, well spoken, easy to follow.

The orange gator board might be my favorite in this lineup, but I don't know what they were thinking with the bone design. Looks ugly as hell.

Um, that great big "mounting bracket" with the Holeyboard is actually a footpedal module, which seem pretty obvious. But this guy *usually* knows what he's talking about . . . :o)

Temple Audio is perfect for me. Very light, modular and the plate attachments secure the board for years, or you can use dual lock velcro just fine.
They're great, just be careful with the Dual Lock, there's not much surface area to stick to so in outdoor conditions it can come loose. The plates are really the way to go.
@@VertexEffectsInc agreed. The plates were honestly a selling feature for me. My last board was velcro and shit would ALWAYS shift on me. With the mounting plates, everything is nice and secure.

I’m going to post this here, because Sweetwater actually has enough clout in the industry to maybe get manufacturers to listen. It was originally about the Boss BCB-1000, but it’s applicable to the entire pedalboard industry:
The thing about the BCB-1000 is, although it's designed to be just about exactly the same size as a standard 22x14x9 passenger airline rollaboard suitcase, it actually makes zero sense for that purpose. Here's why.
US domestic airlines are required to allow musicians to fly with an instrument as cabin baggage, provided there is room available to stow the instrument *at the time the passenger boards*; however, your instrument then counts as your one allowable piece of cabin baggage, thereby restricting you otherwise to a "personal item", which has to be of a size that will fit underneath the seats, more or less your standard "flight tote" size. So, if you are a flying musician, there's pretty much no plausible circumstance in which you are going to end up bringing the BCB-1000 as cabin baggage. It's going to have to be checked baggage, and the best idea is to avoid subjecting instruments and electronics to the tender mercies of airline baggage throwers. And it has no provision for even TSA locks.
What Boss really needs to make for us is a flight tote that will fit under the airline seats, house a fly rig pedalboard, and *still* fits enough clothing, toiletries, personal electronics, and in-flight snacks for a weekend fly-in gig. It doesn't need to be hard-sided, and it doesn't need to be angled. It needs to hold a flat pedalboard no larger than about 390 mm x 290 mm by perhaps 80-85 mm deep-with the pedal mounted. That size board will hold about 8 standard sized pedals in two rows of four, maybe 10 if you use some mini sized pedals. That should be enough for most people to build a fully-functional fly rig, especially if using something like the GT-1000Core.
And, in fact, it’s probably best not to get too attached to a pedalboard or pedals you can’t take everywhere, anywhen, so this size pedalboard-about 15.5” x 11.5”-is probably a good idea to use as a limit for all guitarists.
A standard Boss pedal is 59 mm deep, the GT-1000Core is 65 mm deep, so 80-85 mm overall depth with pedals mounted should leave plenty of room for: a change of clothes & lingerie; a quart baggie of toiletries and makeup; iPad or MacBook, iPhone and chargers; a small destination handbag; and a snack or two. Cables can go in my instrument case.
The BCB-1000 is, of course, just fine for local transport or rail transport, but it just won't fly well. I don't know why pedalboard manufacturers and instrument case manufacturers don't seem to have figured this out, yet, because it seems perfectly obvious, to me. And since that’s the case, the question arises as to why no one actually already makes a pedalboard in this size. I’d like to think that pedalboard manufacturers have intelligent, insightful, experienced musicians working for them, yet no companies seem to think very much at all about the logistics of flying with music gear. How about a whole line of luggage just for musicians?? Not just the odd case here and there, a mismatched mishmash of what we can piece together, but a fully-integrated approach for the travelling pro?
This is a fair consideration. Something we'll have to think about as well.

When did a piece of plywood not enough?
I’ve had a temple audio duo for about 4 years now. I love the board, but hate the mounts. It’s a good idea in theory, but just not very practical or convenient especially when playing live. Anytime I needed to troubleshoot an issue or move pedals on my board, it took a very long time because I kept having to screw the backing on for every pedal. Also, you’re really limited to where you can move your pedal around because it has to align perfectly with the mount. I’ve ended up just using Velcro and am much happier.
Nice! Anything that you're unhappy with ur Temple board? Which model is it? I heard some people complaining about the paint chipping off on Temple boards and bigger boards warping under pedals and I keep re-thinking!

The Gator Board problem is the padding that the pedals stick to, pulls away. I have had to re glue numerous times and have had enough.
Question: What do people do with their pedal boxes and associated stuff? I have friends who religiously save everything with an eye on a future sale. Another says that he is "consuming" his gear and that is that. I get suckered into some hype from time to time and jump on a pedal for it to fall by the wayside later. Saving all this crap is certainly anti-"Marie Kondo" minimalism. Thanks!
These days, packaging accounts for at least 25% of the cost of whatever you buy. Personally, I keep my pedal boxes if they are from pricier brands, but not for resale. Your buddy that says he’s “consuming” his gear gets it. Even though it’s just a box, why literally throw away 25% of what you paid for? Also, with some portable gear, the boxes act as a great transport case rather than spending more cash on dedicated cases. Again, depends on the gear. Having said that, throwing away boxes doesn’t hurt anything. It’s just hard for me to toss 1/4 of the value of whatever it may be. That may not be the case for everything, but it is when it comes to most pedals.
@@ryanwilson5936 I like the points you made. I find some of those boxes attractive as well. I didn't think about the practical that they're also great for storage/transport.
I really wish there were more multi tiered options available. They're really ideal for people who use switchers or for just maximizing pedal real estate for the same overall surface area.

You've got the Vertex (ours), Friedman, and Holy Boards as three solid tiered options.

@@VertexEffectsInc ergonomically, the angled tiered approach is preferable. I understand that it's not as efficient in the use of space. But the design is a bit friendlier kinematically. And then there's admittedly general aesthetics. More so of the Alder&Ash than the Schmidt Array.
@@TomSJazzBass those boards are SO HEAVY...I had a Schmidt that was about the same size as the 17x10 Vertex...the Schmidt board with the top off weighted more than my Vertex board fully assembled. Same function, less weight, more practical.
I gave up on the Velcro mess back in the 90s and made my own zip tie based pedals boards out of HDPE. Tuff as hell and easy to drill holes anywhere you needed to mount a pedal. Downside was weight. I switched to the lighter HoleyBoard pedalboards about 10 years ago and love them. I tour with one in an SKB road case. I cannot understand why people still use velcro. Seems so stone age. But one thing the zip ties don't solve is getting TSA to stop messing with your crap.....
I cab remember when velcro got invented and it is wonderful. Maybe not for this application OK, but it is still a fantastic invention.
Go buy a bamboo duck board, put some taller feet on one end add some Velcro and you have a pedalboard, too easy 😉

The board i use i made from wood. Gave it a nice slant, and a pretty stain and gloss finish, but it would be nice to be able to hide my cables underneath and get a real board some day

I lost my right leg and had to seriously rethink my board.
Right now I have stacked two Holyboards, making a triple decker that can be accessed via wheelchair and training the left foot to become friends with my crybaby.
Guess my question is…. Where the heck can I find a semicircle board (accommodating at least 15 pedals)that has “at least” two tiers and locking wheels?

Probably because Sweetwater doesn't sell Schmidt Array, or some of the other nicer manufacturers. This is a Sweetwater commercial, after all.

@@colsontowingllc3309 he said in the comments section of another video made by Vertex that the Temple used an opamp chip that wasn't ideal for a buffer. Same one as in the Klon Centaur. He said something like (paraphrasing) "it was being run out of spec." "unstable" - I just stick to his approved list and so far it's only improved my board.

Can you buy the buffer and power modules separately for the Vertex boards? If so, are they compatible with existing Vertex boards?
On his (Mason/Vertex) Patreon it shows that they're "optional" - you can buy them with the pedalboards or without and they can be retrofitted to the version 1 boards. I have the TL1 that I'm definitely going to add the buffer module to.

I love that Mason, despite being the face of Vertex (making killer gear BTW) covers a broad spectrum of gear both in and outside of the product he himself makes, it feels a lot less like an advertisement this way and more like a tutorial, something that I wish was around when I made my first pedalboards.. Keep up the great work!
PS my first slab and slant boards were homemade out of plywood! Not a bad idea to offer a kit for those budget players (brackets, hardware, and other essentials to build a DIY board with some of these same features)
Formica and some aluminum u-channel extrusions and you're on your way. The hardest part is cutting those perfect 45 degree corners, or some of the hip places only make one full cut and just score the other three corners and bend them around the edges of the formica counter top material and rivet them with blind rivets under the board. Some will also laminate the bottom with ABS for extra credit :)

@@gilguajardo7808 when they're out you'll be able to retrofit them to any current MKI pedalboard. They'll all be interchangeable. You'll just need to replace the side legs. Super easy DIY job.

I've bought merchandise from Sweetwater in the past. I might buy more, as needed, in the future. I have an issue, however, with Sweetwater's personnel who hold the title of "Sales Experts" or the like. Every one of those "experts" I've been paired with have little to no experience with the products or technology I was shopping for. That does not make them "experts" by any means in my book. So, I have to do all of the research on my own, before deciding on a product at which point I would call Sweetwater for the sale. That makes Sweetwater's "experts" simply "cashiers" ... sorry to say. All of my interactions with Sweetwater have been quite pleasant and getting the products I've purchased into my hands also the same. So, it comes down to simply who has the best price or availability at the time.
I recommend a scrap piece of wood that you can drill holes in if you like. Cost: $0

He was called out multiple times and even sent out cease and desist letters to members over at TGP who showed proof. He only came clean after he was backed into a corner. You can trust this guy all you want but take a few minutes to do some research before defending him because there's a massive list of shaddy things he pulled.

It just doesn't line up with reality. Conmen execute the con, then they move on to a new place where nobody knows them. They don't hang around in their own wake and turmoil. I think a lot of us have done the research and have also seen what Mason has done with the crap situation he put himself in and how he's turned it around. 8 years ago he was a pariah, now he's creating great and useful content on YT, has great products, and is working with the best of the best here at Sweetwater. Even his peers like JHS, Keeley, Mythos all speak about him kindly and respectfully and have touted his products and knowledge on their respective outlets, livestreams, channels, etc. The problem with a lot of the dissenting voices, of Vertex or otherwise in the pedal/guitar/amp world, is I don't actually think it would matter how much the wrongdoing person transformed or how good they've done, or how the reparations were done. You guys demonize them so there's no pathway back to redemption and have a moving goal post as to how they should've handled something in the past that cannot be changed. There's no winning with you guys. It's all zero sum.
