I am Spurs fan, but 2005 Amare was so scary. Beast!!

I am a huge Spurs fan, I always felt like we were going to win every time we played the Suns. I like Amare, I just think he didn’t play hard on defense. Yes him and Duncan had some great battles, but it always seemed like Tim had the edge every time, even when Amare was scoring in the high 30 or 40’s. I was really surprised when the Suns finally beat us in the playoffs in 2009.

@@christopherybarra1070 Suns should have beaten the spurs in 07. Still believe that if amare and diaw did not get suspended in game 5 of that series, suns would have beaten them in 7 games.

@@christopherybarra1070in 2005 Amare averaged 37 and 9 on amazing efficiency. He was cooking Duncan, Shawn Marion choked and joe Johnson didn’t play 2 games

@@Slim2kkin this highlight, Amare only scored 10 points when defended by Tim Duncan, blown him by once and got drew on foul call on Duncan. Amare most of the time was killing Horry or the other center

Suns had their chances in 2010 and 2021 but couldn't get over the hump

I can't overstate this enough...Stoudamire COOKED Tim Duncan. Ate his fucking lunch. It was the rest of the team that let him down. Phoenix was the team we deserved at that low point of NBA basketball, but they couldn't deliver for us.

Regardless, we have to respect both teams. I love watching that San Antonio defense and Phoenix fast pace. The NBA today is at a super low point because it's all about super teams and stars teaming up. I rather watch this over today's NBA any day.

Agreed...Duncan was more of a freight train, and had trouble with Stoudemire's explosiveness. Unfortunately the leg injury that happened soon after this altered the course of his career.

I disagree, when it came down to it Duncan was scoring at will on Amare. Duncan was the better all around defender. Amare and Nash would come up short in the 4th quarter most of the time. I was really surprised when The Suns finally beat the Spurs in the playoffs back in 2009.

No... the Spurs played zone and Amare generally cooked Muhammad/Nesterovic if anything, but, nice try. Pop wasn't about to let Timmy get in foul trouble. This wasn't 2013 when Pop was an idiot for cutting Stephen Jackson and benching Timmy when we were one defensive rebound away from hoisting the championship trophy.

Can’t remember any PF cooking Tim like Amare did in that series smh Tim was still a great defender too!!!Shows how much potential Amare had before all of the injuries/surgeries

He didn't cook Timmy, he cooked Muhammad & Rasho.
Pop wasn't senile back then, he knew better than to get Timmy in foul trouble that way. Spurs would generally play zone against Phoenix because the Suns played smallball with Marion at PF and generally Bowen shut him down. Basically zone defense with a watchful eye on Nash and the three point shooters and letting Amare have fairly easy looks in the paint.

And yet Phoenix still lost to the Spurs in 2005 despite Amare going beastmode on them...

Unless you saw it live you wouldnt belive just how badly amare smoked duncan this ENTIRE series. In fact their weakest link was nash and usually why they could never get past SA. Tony parker and every perimter spur would just attack him ALL game in the pick and roll but because of how important he was to the offense tbey couldnt afford to take him out . But amare though ? Pshhh one of the best performances ive seen from a pf in the playoffs going agaibst a first ballot hofer . He averaged 35-40 ppg this series if i remember right

Weakest link? Hardly. 2X MVP. Without him, they don't even make the playoffs.
