This style of basketball is so beautiful to me. This is a lost art indeed 😔
@@sethbriars2042 Indeed. 😌
@Jesse Scharf well if u find it boring u must suck at using ur body at basketball 🤣 the only reason I drive up hard to the basket is cause of Duncan he taught me how to be smart with the ball and play simple
@Jesse Scharf People who aren’t casuals
@Jesse Scharf well cause duncan is a perfekt postplayer so smooth
@Jesse Scharf you probably the type of dude to just shoot 3s from almost half court and wonder why ur shots dont go in
Tim Duncan career facing Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett and Amar'e Stoudamire was so beautiful and exciting to watch..
Now you’re talking Carlo…..those were some matchups
Watching the Spurs, Mavs, Rockets in the mid aughts was a pleasure, the Death Triangle. Benefit of living in Austin, you got all the games for all three teams.
Man the days when PF were actually valuable. TD is one of my favorite players of all time but Stoudamire is so underrated.
I agree Amare is a hard matchup for Duncan, he's athletic and fast, can shoot jumpers near 18", and jump high. But you can see in this game, there's just no one could stop Duncan...Down by 16 points and Duncan put valiant effort to score 40 to bring them back. Just think how many times Timmy has saved the Spurs, that's insane.
Because of Nash. Amare's value significantly decreased when he left. He was a great athlete and had a decent midrange but if Amare was asked to carry the team you'll alot of those "mismatch" problems go away
Spurs had no business winning this game. But they did.
Tim Duncan the greatest PF ever and one of the greatest leaders ever
Jay Lee How's Duncan a forward? I see a center.
@@kodrinsky He kinda played both but he was a true PF tho
Jay Lee no. He was a center. Pop played with two centers for a long time. Robinson/Duncan, Oberto/Duncan... 4 centers. Would you play the differences game? Duncan/Olajuwon vs Duncan/Karl Malone. Which one Timmy resembles the most? He's definitely a center listed as a PF because of the nba's ridiculous listings.
@@kodrinsky He was a PF. He played the 5 at times especially his last 2 seasons. He played PF this whole game. He's consistently at the top of all the top PF lists. But I'm sure you know better then everyone else. I'm gonna side with coaches, players, analysts, etc. over you Mr. Armchair expert.
Jonathan Reynolds no. Duncan was a center. Period.
Spurs vs Suns used to be some of the best playoff games
Nah, spurs usually always won
@@amaxlite how does that refute the fact that it was one of the best matchups excitement wise?
@@orueom7720 on paper it looked good but i don't think they ever beat the spurs in a series
@@amaxlite The Suns Beat the Spurs in 2010 playoffs
@@MrDewayne o rly? cool
While many wont admit it, Stoudemire was one of Duncans hardest matchups in his career. That athleticism and offensive skill drove the spurs crazy. If only Amare worked with Hakeem in 2006 after his 1st knee surgery...
Drove them crazy by losing 4 times out 5 playoff meetings
2007 was rigged we would won with amare and diaw and game 3 was fixed
Andre Figueiredo stop the salt
They are other great big man with superb athleticism and offensive skills such as cousins and griffin. They marched up TD while TD was no longer in his primes and they cannot even beat TD down. Stoudemire was good because of Nash. TD was the whole system just by himself
Andre Figueiredo oh yeah. The league rigged the playoffs so that a small market team in San Antonio could win the championship and sweep one of their iconic players (LeBron) in the finals... yep, that’s a great marketing strategy and they obviously have money in mind😂.
Tim Duncan is top 5 all time. Idc what anyone has to say. Best leader also. Dude just went to work every year, and was always a threat to win it all year in year out. Not ONE year he wasn’t in contention.
bro, you explained this masterfully, i couldn’t agree anymore. anyone who disagrees is just ignorant
MJ, Kareem, Russell, Magic, Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Bird, Wilt, James
Hu Zheng Duncan > Kobe and James > everyone but MJ
@Man E Mr. J more rings buddy💯

@@xjpwcnm How many of these players did you watch play? Did you watch Russell play? Did you watch Wilt play? How can you possibly rate Kobe over Duncan?
Tim Duncan would've easily learned to become a 3-point threat in today's game.
💯
Tim Duncan will never get the credit he deserves! What a unique talent he had. First ballot HOF "for sure !!👍👍Well deserved TD#Top4bestplayertoeverdoit!!
I’m sure Tim Duncan gets his credit. He’s in the top in my opinion he’s so big on fundamentals
Daamm how much I miss the big fundamental! 💙 TD21 from Greece
I thought he was from the Virgin Islands
Amar'e is my favorite player ever and I'm so sad they couldn't get past the Spurs, but I have the ultimate respect for Tim because of that and he's the greatest PF of all time. Let's get Amar'e and Matrix into the Hof though they deserve it!
They got past them in 2010
100 percent spurs fan here, but no lie that suns team scared us. If yall had kept Shawn Marion and run it back one more year I don't think anyone could have beat that team. I love Shaq but it wasn't the right move. As spurs fans there were only a few teams that we looked at and thought they might beat us. Kobe/Shaq- Lakers, Amare/Marion/Nash- Suns, Durant/Westbrook/Harden- Thunder. End of list. Honestly didn't think the Warriors or Clippers had it in them to beat us at full health. And until the Heatles the east was a joke
Spurs always had to face the toughest teams on the west before they could win their 5 championships! Easily the best team in any sports history!!!
Hugely underrated playoff performance by Duncan in ‘08. Outplayed Shaq and Amare.
dwade Shaq was 34 and still very good. Amare was in his prime. Duncan had to take turns guarding both. Phx traded for Shaq at the deadline specifically to guard Duncan because Amare proved over a 3 year span that he cannot. Like I said, Duncan outplayed them both. Take care!
petd3321 if they really wanted to stop 🛑 Duncan they should gotten Tyson Chandler Duncan struggles against mobile centers
I totally agree
@dwade Let's not act like Duncan didn't outplay prime Shaq many times.
2003 Duncan annihilated the Lakers with the weakest supporting cast ever led to a title.
Stop it
can't believe I am watching this in 2019 but have to say it again that the 3 pointer TD made by the end of second OT was one of the underestimated greatest play ever made in the NBA history. His greatness is beyond words.
I remember watching this game live and how intense it was, I also remember Tim Duncan's three pointer being on the front page of the San Antonio Express which is basically the news paper. :)
Duncan and ama're at their prime time. So good to watch
These spurs vs suns battles were insane.
Pure nostalgia old school team fundamental basketball
All I want to say is that what a legend, STEVE NASH!!!!
@Richard Valdez Blame Dwight Howard.
@@jesserice7777 and injuries, nash was too old when he joined the lakers
@@TheOfficialSlyBandit True, but when u have a talented center who (until that season) never had someone that's ultra competitive & demanding of a teammate, there is NO EXCUSE of how that team performed on a game-by-game basis. Injuries are a part of the game & everyone (at some point) will go through them. Not playing to the level of your talents is just disrespect to the basketball gods.
@@jesserice7777 I completely agree. Dwight was just soft. Acted more like a clown than someone who wanted to win like mamba.
@@jesserice7777 dwight cared more about being liked. When he should know you'll be more respected than liked if you're a winner.
I love how TD actually prepared himself for this play.. notice when he simply wiped his hands after an offscreen pick catch and shoot, like he already knew it was going in.. he rarely shoot 3s but when he does, you know he’ll make it.. what a legend..
I still remember this game.... heartbeat goes up to 130 the clutch time!
I remember Finley hitting some clutch 3s too in that game.
I see Duncan shoot jumpshots but i never saw him shoots threes🏀🏅👌
why is only shooting 2pt jumpers a good thing🤣
@@dmoney7784 The game was different (better) before everyone started chucking 3s.

Yeah man I was 17 when this series was going on.. I'm now 30 years old. Sighs time flies
So much great memories in 1 video, Duncan and the spurs forever a consistent and calm underdog team comparing the star studs team from the west. Haha miss ginobili's hair...
Shaq was washed up when he joined the sun, if he joined them few years ealier, sun would won some chips with him... Stoudmire is always a great threat in the paint playing along side with Nash... Always love their games... They could be 1 of the best 1and 4 pair after malone and Stockton...
Miss those good old days where players fought hard and less running their mouth on social media.. Glad to witness and watch nba at its best from 90s till 2000s.
I just don’t understand why that game-tying three by Timmy doesn’t get more recognition as the amazing Playoff moment that it was. Sure, one could argue there wasn’t a ton at stake here - it being Game 1 of a first round matchup - but I remember watching this game live; it was only my second year watching the NBA and I knew Tim Duncan hitting a 3 was a huge fucking deal. The fact that it was in such a critical situation made it damn-near mindblowing.
Im from Portugal and i watch the Spurs since 2007. This was my first playoff game. What a night!
Shaq looks so useless out there

Tim Duncan shows us the definition of cornerstone and MVP
These were still the good ol days of basketball.
This y TD the Greatest PF ALL TIME 💪🏀
Back before everyone was shooting nothing but 3s
Yeah, This was much better Ball in my opinion
the modern game is still super entertaining imo, this is just different. not a bad different, but a good different. but i think giannis, jokic, and ayton are going to be bringing a new era of dominant big men, they're not quite duncan dirk and KG yet but they still have time to grow and keep racking up accolades. the future of the NBA is bright :)
@@diigdugg yeah people gotta stop hating if they weren't constantly bashing the modern game they would see its very similar
This Suns team was stacked and were fun to watch!
God Duncan in his prime was something to watch
Probably at 11 years in the league, on the backside of his prime. Duncan in 2003 when they beat the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe was when he solidified his stature as an all time great. Put on a clinic in game 6 to beat the Lakers. He is still more than capable here though.
And most casual fans never appreciated him in his prime calling him "boring"

If not for Amare Stoudemire injury he'll become one of the best player in that era. I also remember when Brandon Roy got injured.

Ppl forget how much of prob Timmy was back then. Esp on D end.. 💪💪
@Sam Zheng Super fact bro. I got Timmy on as my #7 all time list. One greatest ever even tho I've never heard him say one word of English. Lmao.
@@stevevisa6522 Timmy is my favorite player ever, and he varies from 6 to 8 on my GoaT list (his place vs Bird and Wilt changes, but I always have Duncan over Shaq and Kobe).
I don't know why his name is not taken in the Goat conversation more. We're just deflecting with things like best PF.
5 rings, 2 MVPs, 1 FMVP, multiple all NBA defense selections (he should've had one DPOY for sure). 5 rings is absolute goat when everyone brings up these rings talk
@@kingbradley3402 Duncan had 3 finals MVPs (and it was almost 5, he was the best player in 2007 and was one rebound from being finals MVP in 13), and he has the record for making the most all defensive teams. Tim Duncan one of the greatest centers of all time. Skills, leadership, calmness. The glue of an entire team.

Duncan a basketball GOD!!
Suns fan here, really thought we would win a few chips with this team, but Duncans that dude
He was a legend before this game but this game made him a God! Who else can drop 40 against Shaq and stoudemire!
One of my favorite duos of all time Nash & Amar'e! Unfortunately they didn't get a ring partly due to injuries and the other part becuase the spurs had a dominant trio themselves that always stood in the way.
Very beautyful game for both team players
Duncan still had some athletic quickness here i can see it in some of his post moves.
Tim duncun always gave his all. The most OG basketball player to ever play the PF position. The dude was just really strong
wow i loved the Nash & Amar'e Suns
2002 to 2008 was the golden era of power forwards. Duncan, Garnett, Nowitzki are all timers. Then you have great talents like Z-Bo, Amar'e , and Wallace. Then you have very good players like Kenyon Martin bringing up the rear.
It's incredible that Stourdamire and Shaq can't stop to Timmy. Def a top 10.
Damn that's a game. Sick matchup
First time to see Duncan's 3 point shot.
What a game! It’s not important which team won the game. Every player of two teams did his best. This is the NBA game.
Duncan vs Stoudemire
Patker vs Nash. Great series. I miss this type of basketball. Now teams are juat shooting 3s and no plays
there is a game called king we play here, all stand outside 3 point line and shoot from static position. every goal will change place with next player and goes to to basket when hit from the right side. then he can do whatever he wants as long as he can catch off glass ball that did not hit the net. well todays basketball is just like that
@@laman123lam true
No more games like this, no more duos like this. Back then was everything teamwork, nowadays are only individualities.
Amar'e Stoudemire is one of my favorite NBA players of the 2000s/2010s
They say AD is better than duncan.. lol Tim Duncan is wildly underrated.
I went to this game with some friends, and game 2 with some coworkers. When Duncan drained that 3 to go to double OT it was the loudest I ever recall in ATT.
That's basketball right there
The big fundamental taking the Suns to school, best power forward ever, Monster indeed, too good, too strong too big💪🙌
Was that the series that Horry checked Nash into the stands? He was the true MVP of that series
such a classic game
Shaq, Nash, Amare, Grant Hill. That looked like a big 4 but only if all they were all in their prime.
Tims post game was beautiful, this whole game he gives u an assortment of moves, its weird when u compare it to today, where KAT struggles to score over guys 6 inches smaller than he is, where is the sophistication of moves
Because everything is curtail into either layups, dunks, or 3-pointers. Very little sophistication in the modern game.
Mutombo also struggled offensively and by contrast Jokic scores over much quicker and athletic guys.
People don't understand how much of a beast amare was in his prime, had he played in today's game he would be a 300 million dollar player, but Duncan is already best power forward ever, but once he started making his free throws and hitting game tying threes, it's a wrap for anyone
Tim Duncan is HOF for a damn good reason.....
Why do so few people talk about Timmy's post game? Always gets his spot, gets his shot, works the defender out of position, creates space.
It isn't Hakeem, but dude puts up 40+ in the playoffs with 1 three pointer lol. Elite post game
Before Timmy stripped some pounds due to a knee injury, he was unstoppable. No one in his era could sustainably stop him. NONE.
This kind of game,.both of this team dffnitly tough, huge to beat in play.offs, smifnals,to finals u cnt predicts, whos win,?bec.of this type of game.. .Mindgames(de antoni&poppovich).⭐🏆👑
Everyone here making fun of Shaq forgetting how he destroyed Duncan back in their primes and how dominant he was. He's knees and stamina are not that good anymore but still tries to play, give credit.
Check their stats in those Lakers-Spurs playoff games from 1999-2004, then say make that "Shaq destroyed Duncan" claim again with a straight face. I know the Lakers won three of the five matchup, but Duncan's stats were better than Shaq's.
Shaq never destroyed Duncan,in almost all of their playoff matches Duncans stats are better than Shaqs.
Shaq never destroyed duncan and pls shaq is a center so don't compare them
Never heard prime Shaq getting swept by sophomore Duncan equaled to destroying him, funny how your mind works...

What a beast duel
This was one of the best basketball games ive never seen not just because im a spurs fan
my biggest takeaway is how done Shaq was at this point in his career lol. hard to believe this is the same guy that was literally unguardable
Easy from our vantage point but you gotta wonder what if they just went to small ball with amare at the 5. He’d have had so much more space to work with
Shaq wasn't the big franchise player anymore and started going from team to team so his market value diminished considerably, I remember in that series (probably this game) he steps on Duncan's foot which he loved to do to Robinson to trip him and gets called for the foul and he has the most "are you really calling that" face he's ever had. That was the NBA's way of telling him he was from then on below Duncan and other superstars in the league.
I miss watching Tim Duncan :(
Stoudamire and Shaq vs Tim
Holy crap!! that was one hell of a matchup, when postup moves were awesome....
Mtj no it was Stoudemire vs Duncan Shaq didn’t do anything this game

Some “experts” say Duncan wasn’t athletic, he takes a bump from Shaq and still finishes or blocks Amare frontally in the air while is dunking.
No matter where how the pass was thrown, if it was in his range, Duncan was catching the ball, no problem.
Same with the rebounds.
Wingspan made to play basketball, great defensive player, great footwork, soft touch.
Very underrated.
If not for Manu Ginóbili errors, Duncan would have retired with 7 championships (‘06 2nd round vs Mavs and ‘13 finals vs Heat) and 4-5 finals MVP’s.
Still, 5 championships, 5:1 in finals. 3 times finals MVP. Countless all nba/defense teams.
Yeah but not forget that Manu was a key reason for the Spurs to win in 05 if you look the stats and the moments objectively, he should have been named Finals MVP. In 03 as a rookie had a good productivity on the play offs and he was the spark that Spurs needed and in 07 was so clutch when San Antonio desperately needed, behing of course TP. In 2014 played significantly better than last year lost finals and he avenged the previous performance in 2013. Yeah Manu thought that he could block Dirk in 06 but he didn't need to do cause Spurs up 3 but he has done so many times before and after, so. In 04 le lost for a second Fisher but come on, who though Fisher could hit it, he was clutch but shot like these come from luck, it's just a touch. And if course, what can I say about 13 finals, he was mediocre at best but every man deserves a pass.
