You know that most people don’t have the room for a 0 scale train set. What you have done is to find unused space for the train. It’s up and away yet still in a place that makes it fun to enjoy. Thanks for the video.

Great layout. My favorite details are many from the right amount of space, the sound, and for me the order of things around the layout is clean and uncluttered…. I have yet to settle to a more permanent residence so I am inspired to see this. My stuff is moved about so much. I am just happy to set up a run but my surroundings are still very cluttered (my channel shows it). Thanks again for sharing a joy and inspiration.

That is the most beautiful train setup I've seen in a long time. The internet is full of excellent train layouts, but this is the most unique. I would love to do this in my entire house, but I think my wife may have issues in me cutting all the holes in the walls. Keep up the good work, my friend. P.S. I still have my 1939 027 gauge Lionel that I got when I was 2 years old. I put it around the Christmas tree every year and it still runs like it was brand new. I wonder how many miles it has on it!

I have a different take on it. When I was a kid in the early 50's I was fascinated by our city's streetcar system with the overhead wires & trolley poles. Trolley buses replaced them as well as a light rail system providing east-west city service & to our Airport using pantographs. Many subways use a 3rd rail. My 1st train set was a Lionel 027 & from that I gradually assembled a large layout. From some actual rail systems using an additional electrical power source, I have no hang-up about model trains using basically the same system. Tell you what though, some school chums had A/F 2-rail layouts too, we all loved them too!

That's what I wanted to do (continuous tracks (2) around the basement walls), but now I'm moving to Florida (no basement). I constructed 10 - 8 ft long sections of trestles/bridges out of scrap cedar and 1/4" luan. Mine is HO, and also C&O-centric, with a 2-8-4 Kanawha out front. I've been collecting coal hoppers for years, but not one has been on the tracks. Now, I know I will need a "model room" in the new digs, and I'll somehow move my trestles to FL. Thanks for the push!

Nice!! One Day!! Can you please tell me you thoughts on lionel vs lgb trains and o gauge vs g? I'm assuming this is a lionel train. I'm interested in collecting for my kids so they can pass down. I have an old g scale "the big train" lgb kit my dad got me the year I was born 92. Still in great shape. The track looks realistic similar to what you have in the video. I also have a lionel " gauge o.o27" my dad bought me when I was 10 or 11. But the track is much different looking (all metal) with 3 rails.
Any response will be very helpful. Just trying to get better understanding on this .

Good morning and thank you! I purchased all of my building supplies from Home Depot.... I started with....
A: 3/4” thick plywood roughly $35.00 for a 4x8 sheet.... had Home Depot cut my 4x8 sheet into rails of 11 3/4” wide by 8ft long.... no cost to have them cut it.
B: wall brackets (black) found in hardware isle... make sure you purchase the ones that have a working load of at least 320 lbs per pair... they cost roughly $7.00 ea.
Mount wall brackets every 32in. To studs in wall using a stud finder.... brackets should be drilled into studs using 3in long #9 deck screws with torx bit T25 head.
C: secure brackets to bottom of plywood once brackets are located on your wall using 3/4” long wood screws
      This should get you started....
Note: make sure that your brackets are secure and Level on your walls... if not your project will be doomed from the get go... use at least a 4 foot long level.
      Best of luck!

Awesome job. I've just recently moved and hope to do something similar in my Lanai (Florida sun room). Luckily My Lanai is enclosed and is air conditioned so is will do as there are no basements here. It's 26' X 11' so it will work well. The long inner wall is taller than the outer wall, so I plan on putting two spirals at the corners of the taller wall to raise and lower the track. Lots of planning to do, as I want it to look really nice, like you are doing. If I may ask, how wide are the track platforms you used?

I have two spots where the track picks up power.... one right next to transformer and another 15 feet down the line....the M.T.H. Z4000 transformer does an excellent job powering the layout at a constant 18 volts... which is what Lionel requires to operate its locomotives....

That is just brilliant. What a great idea. Man you could sell that, trains around the walls.

I kind of have something like this in mind, I just need to figure out an efficient way to not only make it so you can see the engines visibly, but also be able to enter and exit doors without having to duck down. Be a shame to have someone new walk into that room and tear down the trackage in front of the door because they didn't know it was there. The idea of crossing rooms is also a good idea as well. I'm personally just starting out with model trains, I've had them since I was a little kid, but never really got into them until recently. For the time being, I'm stuck on using antique locomotives from the 80's on down. Obviously, buying from eBay isn't the best option, since you never know what you're gonna get... But these things are simple to fix... Hell, I picked up a Rivararossi Big Boy for a little bit of nothing because the previous owner apparently didn't know what oil was. The bearings were seized up, I took the gearboxes out and apart, oiled the bearings, stuck them back in, worked them a little bit, and they were moving smooth as butter. Cars are just kind of whatever, I'll buy vintage and rare ones, but I also have no problem buying cheap plastic ones either. Also, for ANYONE who is wanting to get into model trains, do not give in on the cheap price tag on Tyco/ Mantua models, unless of course, they're just cars or scenery objects. The engines themselves are absolute GARBAGE. They're neat shelf pieces, but that's really all they're good for. I can give an example, there's a 0-8-0 Chattanooga that I've seen a TON of, the motor is located in the tender, and the tender weighs next to nothing. Now, it doesn't take a whole lot of knowledge to know, you need weigh where the motor/ drive wheels are in order for an engine to be efficient. Just pay the extra little bit of cash. Even a 1980's Bachmann will suffice.

Are you going to use plexiglass along the edge for fall protection?

How much would a train like that cost? I’m looking on eBay but don’t know what’s a good brand or price. Your set up is amazing!

Curious if you made the wall supports, or bought them. I’m looking for something very similar, but don’t want to use a pre-made shelf support.
