That's really solid man, I've started replaying F4 a few months ago and love building up my settlements. You're tips and builds are top notch! Subscribed.
The best thing about powered gates in a settlement like this is they can be used to keep the settlers inside during an attack instead of pouring out to mix it up with the enemies. Then your automated defenses can actually do their job. While I know Gray doesn't sully his builds with glitches, it is possible to glitch a power switch connected to a logic gate and a siren. When the guard sees an enemy, he hits the siren. Flipping that switch closes the inner gate, protecting the settlers. Once the attack is over & the siren is turned off, the gate opens. Sunshine Tidings is the sort of place which frequently gets hit by super mutants, ghouls, gunners, raiders, & occasionally a deathclaw. I try to concentrate my defenses so the bodies pile up in a contained area. That way, I don't have to spend 15 minutes scouting the perimeter to check for legendary gear drops.
I've been playing FA4 since it came out and thank you for giving me new ideas and directions on how to build without a bunch of mods. Yes, I do love mods, but your information has allowed me to do more with less. Great job, I'm sort of doing a marathon at the moment.
This was absolutely amazing, was debating building a guard tower for Sanctuary, trying to prep before going for the big treasure (spectacle island) love this series man your the absolute GOAT!
Man alive! This is just brilliant! Thx so much for posting this vid! I have already incorporated this style into 2 of my settlements & I’ll be integrating this idea into my Castle Settlement next. Just got back into Fallout 4 after 5 yrs and I’ve rediscovered why this game is so amazing! Found your channel the other day & I’m excited to view the rest of your content! Keep up the great work!
I like that build I would also put windows on at least the second floor's 3 sections facing out so I could fire down out side the gate and any connecting walls beyond the gate house but most likely would make it windows all around on the upper floors. and your towers would work great on the corners of any outer walls surrounding the settlement I am going to build this right now when I get into game ... great videos by the way.
This was awesome! I tried building one of the things from before, but really struggled. Will definitely try building this! Think you could show how to build a player home that effectively keeps settlers out, so they don't use your bed and workbenches constantly?
it's not completely fool proof but it's the same basic concept with a powered door to control access when you're not there and placing your fast travel mat inside the house. the problem is that settlers will spawn in random locations when you fast travel so there is a chance they'll spawn inside the house. there's no perfect way, but using a powered door with the power switch left in the off position works about 80% of the time.
Use those concrete poles to finish cleaning the tin on either side of the door. How hard would it be to add pressure traps that turn on when both doors are closed. You'd be using a not gate switch set.
Great Video, do you think you could add some Actual Traps from the Contraption DLC into your Man Trap??? Or a video showing how to use those correctly?
Put a catwalk across the top of the gate section. The outer facing can be the concrete wall window sections, but leave the back side open with the smaller floor blocks and guard rails over the interior of the gate. That should turn it into a murder hole, so that guards can shoot down on anyone trapped between the gates. You could theoretically put a door wall section on the interior walls of the gate to give access to the catwalk. I don't know if scaffolding sections would work here, since they would probably need the framework, which might cause issues with that interior gate operation, but it's worth a try.
I controlled a gate house with 1 switch using a not gate. I connected power to a switch then to the 1st powered door. I connected a second wire to the switch then to the not gate, then the not gate to the second door. When 1 door had power the 2nd didn't and visa versa. So any time you flipped the switch it would close 1 door and open the other one.
Only at the 7 minute mark for this comment, but I'd be tempted to make a walk path between the towers and limit stairs to one side. Then you'd have full rooms on one side for each level. At the end comment: I'd move the switches inside a turret so as to be ready to trigger and start shooting. Using the half walkways above the center portion would allow for movement between and shooting from above as well.
Don’t know if you read comments but could you do sanctuary? I’m trying to build my settlement but mine looks wonkey as hell. Also how do you get your concrete foundations line up right? Thanks man
a CC episode on an entire settlement would be pretty long. you can actually see in my 5 tips videos there are some short clips of working in sanctuary and really it's just about patience, eyeballing it like a hawk and making a lot of adjustments before you get too far with the foundation
Yeah this awful clipping is precisely why settlement building should have been scrapped entirely - there are so many missing parts (why are there diagonal walls but no diagonal floors?), terrible snapping, etc that's it's just not worth engaging with this horrible mess.
Settlement building is hands down my favorite part of fallout 4 and the only way it’s better than new Vegas. Could it be better? Absolutely. Is it much better than nothing? Without question.
Looks great bro. All my towers just be square nd that makes me sad. Would love to see a couple legion camp/town builds from you broski. Other factions as well of course.

Finally! A guy who succeeded at building a wall. Grey Gaming 2024!!!!

Love the hints for the switches for the man trap.

Pls continue these “how to build it” ideas! Love em & very inspiring!

That is excellent. I'll be using it on my next build.
That is so cool. Now I wanna build something like this at my Castle. Great job. You got mega talent
Great video! Always loved the building mechanic and have been looking for some inspo on builds
Nice!
There are a few traps you could add to the inside like the spike trap or the flamethrowers, but honestly, it’s perfectly good as is!
You should do more things like this, great video

You could add dummy towers with trap doors at the top that drop to a spike trap.
I like watching you build this!

Your armor reminds me of those k9 training suits.

Do i need to buy or get any add ons to make this build or can I unlock these type of settlement building options somehow?
as a general rule, my builds require the base game and all DLC, this I think can be done with just the wasteland workshop DLC, but I'm not sure.
@Theegreygaming thank you very much! I can't wait to but the needed dlc to make my settlements bad ass!
Not half squares, quarter squares ;-) (06:04)
Great vid anyway :D
depends on if you're talking about square ft, or the length of the sides. :)
Is this possible base game, or are you using mods?
almost entirely wasteland workshop DLC.
Trump's favorite game(all you do is build walls)
666th like

It’s not that bad. It’s not ark or Conan but you can build some really cool things.
