PSA: The way HE works has changed since Direct Hit. Now HE is better than HE-VT against ships, thanks to the conical fragmentation pattern(HE-VT is spherical).
Yeah, somehow I made a HE-VT direct hit a ship more than 1.5 km from me and hit like a truck. Weird😅 (I used the Type 5's 57 mm gun)
And funny thing is that afterwards it didn't work at all, now it just scratches the paint off of wooden boats😢

When opening fire on destroyers, I make my first salvos HE because that knocks out their guns much more efficiently. After that, I switch the SAP and start targeting the engines and magazines
came by this video looking for something totally different but was very impressed by the explanation and the simple methodical accuracy
Many parts of this video are outdated though. Look for newer vids or ask Napalm to make a new one.

I usually don't have much problem with my my shell selection except 2 cases:
- 1st: (and most) Italian heavy Cruisers: (Trento and Pola!) The already poor rate of fire changes on wide variety depending if some one is shooting at me or not, only HE and AP shells, and the AP seems it overpenetrates most light cruisers, unless it hits a modul.
- 2nd: ALL British cruisers: issues with no AP only SAP; witch looks like it does nothing against heavy cruisers (or anything bigger), specially from longer range!
Point #1: That's a bit more of a flaw of the Italian naval tree as a whole; they have very anemic RoF compared to their equivalents, but have generally good AP performance. Of course, they also suffer from the excessive dispersion, which can make the superior AP performance a bit overly randomized (it's difficult to pinpoint weak spots with Italian AP because of dispersion issues.)
Point #2 is more because the British don't really have many heavy cruisers, so while you get very used to the 6" SAP performance against other light cruisers, it really runs out of steam against the higher-tiered "modern" heavy cruisers (and of course battleships). The heavy cruisers that they DO get in the British tech tree don't suffer nearly as much from the SAP performance issue that the light cruisers do; but the heavies come very late in the tech tree comparatively to the other nations...

I find it odd that whenever I try the damage sim with AP on cruisers, the shells just go through.....like,HE seems to be the only solution

How do you visuals up like you do for targeting? I have the disance bars and lead bars but I also get this green circle that is trying to show me where and how far my shells will land. I do not care for this and find it distracting, is there a way to remove it like yours is and what is the best setup for manual aiming? if there is such a thing.
I think it is set into stone. I find it helpful but it needs practicing. it helps hitting targets while you do evasive maneuvers

@@auklon3372 If you look in option/naval battle settings, there's a thing called "highlight targeting point". Disabling that removes the green circle.

Today i knocked some cruiser down to 5% crew and someone else got the kill, i wasn't recognized as assisting either...

Is it worthwhile to strip extra ammunition for extra survivability like in ground battle?
Depends, it may save you in certain way since less ammo = less layers that might explode, yet Naval is about thunder of shells you shot to enemy and ammo you use matters even more than in ground since variety of ships you may face is way more differed. What I mean is that in ground Good ap shell is way to go meanwhile in naval your target is way more shell depending
Only on the larger ships where you have more than one rack per turret. Naval ammo is loaded/unloaded on a per turret basis. Most ships have a single rack per turret, and those are considered full no matter the amount of rounds you carry.

Naval radar currently works exactly the same as ground SPAA radar. There should be some videos explaining those.
How you play without artilery director? Or its old old video?

How do you like the "new" aiming mechanik, i often feel like I can't hit something because the distance is so "unstable " and switches all over the place 😅🙈
I am find it very finicky sometimes
@@auklon3372 yeah, when you go into normal view and back into gunner view the distance changes very often to + 1 km i find it very anoying😕

Is the Shrapnel round good for anything?
If I try to use it on PT boats they seem to never hit and I just go back to secondary guns.
I usually take 50% SAP, 30% APBCB-HE and 20% HE on 20.5 cm + guns.
is this video older or is there a way to go back to the old aiming system?
I am having fits just trying to get 70% activity, it is tough for me
Try shooting at all times. Seems to work well for me.

The late cruisers and battleships get better, don’t worry. You could try spamming torpedoes in arcade to grind through the destroyers.
is this still accurate, or did shells / damage models change significantly since this guide was made?
The basic message is still the same. Do a Testdrive and find out about your specific ship in question. Happy new year btw

It has changed significantly. And it could change at any time in the future. So you should probably just ask other naval experts about how it is currently, and do some experimenting on your own. And remember that it can change at any time(sometimes without being mentioned in the changelogs), so you’ll have to re-adjust whenever something feels different.

I was wonder, which shells are useful to use on the Moffett? I have seen people use he vt or sap as the main ammo.
I use HE-VT bcs it has lit the same performance of the HE but it has the prox fuse for quick plane engages

Für die deutschen 15cm Kanonen nutze ich nur AP Granaten, da ich gemerkt habe, dass sie mehr Schaden an der gegnerischen Munition machen.

My current solution to the issues in WT naval is to play Bannerlord instead. Great video, though. I've been waiting for something like this for ages. Slightly risky, though, given that what you should or shouldn't use changes DRAMATICALLY every other patch or so.

Uhm, If it is the hedgehog depthcharges you need to Look into the right direction (facing forward) and then Press the asigned button. Depth charges Launch to the Side or the rear.
@@Napalmratte Right! I had to select it under secondary weapons. I actually thought it was mortar bombs why wouldn't they just say depth charges?😆
Right answer: None of them. Delete the game. Suffer less

@@jooot_6850 it works in both ways, we can cry about unbalance but when a 1.0 BR vehicle can kill top tiers where's the unba;ance..? ikr unbalance isn't only a BR thing, it applies to other parts of the game.

Good guide Ratte though the gameplay is diffrent from everyone. for me easiest to kill heavys/light cruisers is HE not armor piercing it's easier to kill destroyers whit armor piercing then HE battleships we should'nt even start to talk about...

then there is hacks and players who "don't hack"
specially in battleships some players can aim shoot and your ammoracked right away. but when yourself in a battleships and go for the ammo rack NOTHING happens even if you hit the ammorack russian bias and hackers. the mods and admins ingame really don't care about hackers here :P
