Rompopolo's mouth shape+tongue seems like an anteater's or a woodpecker's, kinda like a thin bill and a long tongue to get stuff out of holes, and that with it's air sacs seems to confirm that it probably feeds on some very derived bacteria colonies/large moulds that can process crude oil (that exist irl too), and the byproduct of that breakdown is probably what fills its air sacs. As its forelimbs seem like claws to stir up the soil, and its tail inflating air into the ground also stirs up dirt due to the air bubbles (and we see it feeding close to the ground to reinflate too) said bacteria might actually live inside the mud and rompopolo might be very specialised in digging up soil, feeding on bacteria, and using the gases made by them to stir up the soil more. A monster that I like the more i think about it, and I'm glad weird derived monsters that just fit their locale very well instead of being cool mcawesome 3000 are back in full force
Once deflated it seems clear (at least to me) that Rompopolo is a "bird", likely sharing its skeleton with Quematrice, so the woodpecker comparison fits. I'm not sure why they're classified as brute wyverns and not bird wyverns but it could just be that the Guild explorer who discovered them was a fan of brutes. I'm told it happens in real life.
@Kroq-gar woodpecker's really there for the tongue and their ability to intentionally stir up the material they forage from, that said the highly derived beak+tongue is also similar to a hummingbird for sure (probably more apt even since both the beak and the tongue match).
I think the HBG is uth dunas. Also when Rompopolo is deflated it reminds me of great wroggi- perhaps they are distant relatives in universe? inflation venom sacks? the tail spike? etc. a fun thought if nothing else
I mean, Jaggi Baggi and Wroggi always struck me more like small brute wyverns with how they throw their weight around. Not likely, but definitely an interesting thought.
Also in case anyone missed it im not sure in which video it was but in one of them we see the cold drink in the item bar, so those are confirmed. Theres also the item effect present almost all the time in the 4 videos

After seeing this game. A friend and I have been chanting Rompopolo a lot around our third friend because his screen name is PO.. Safe to say I think it wore out pretty quickly. I do not know how that man tolerates us lol.
Rompopolo’s looks like it’ll be a great deal of fun with being able to take advantage of the temporary weak points that show up during parts of its move set. Seems like friendly but also a very enjoyable hunt I’m looking forward to this one…oh and the head gear for the monster looks awesome
I think the bit about some turf wars having random victors was specifically when a group of small monsters squares up with a large monster, like the small raptors vs quematrice from Gamescom
16:00 Isn't it more of a tie when you add up all the poison damage combined with the initial hit from Rompopolo? How do we define if a given monster has "won" a turf war?
Ngl this monster was the one we most surprisingly wrong about so far, really unique design. We thought the gears probably a new crow or vulture-like bird/flying wyvern, in tease we thought it's a new giant bug species... BUT IT'S A FCKING *BRUTE WYVERN* !!
For the colours I think it's just a weather colouring thing. It looks less vivid while the area is more foggy and the light is desaturated. Whereas the lighting was better when he was more vivid
Maybe it's just me being hopeful, but I think he recharged his sac from the geyser the player detonated. He was just sitting on top of it not doing much while he fired the torch pods. It would make complete sense and be cool as hell, so I hope that's what was happening here.
I am stupidly excited to play this. And I just learned that Freedom wars is getting a remaster so I have something to play until the 28th. What a fucking amazing start to the year.
The greatsword is also a great weapon for wounds. You can create 3 wounds and then run the greatsword across the whole back of the monster and pop all 3 wounds.
Turf war was the same between both videos you saw. You just saw it from a different angle. I really don't think turf wars are going to vary that much it will be the same as always.
@@riemaennchen Hmm, I get what you mean but the Bala stuff looks different. Like, the Bala Lance, they showed the SnS and the Hammer was in this video too, they have a look that to me looks almost drill like. Like what you would see on a massive drill in a movie or something, that IG looks more sleek, thinner sharp edges and points and there's a seemingly glowing blue oval shape on the small end. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the BF have blue glowing spots on its tentacles? I could be completely wrong, of course, just my observations- you could be right.
Hammer has always been slow attacks with good character mobility. You have to time it and get good shots and then once they are kod it's pound town. They also slow down a lot the more brain damage you give so as the hunt goes on you get more openings for non ko hits
Me wounding all parts DB users: is that a levi thing i spot?? I reprimanded one of my hunting buddy when he constantly initiate focus strike when I'm still mounting lol
Three things that need adjustments: 1. The Palico pulls way too much aggro. 2. Monster attack speed is too slow in comparison to player mobility. 3. Monster attacks don’t do nearly as much damage as they should, aside from Apexes.
@@TornaitSuperBird That is a good question. These could be builds strong enough to ensure victory. Maybe IGN has an upcoming video showing the final values.

Lol the game has farts. If he was a fart monster he'd use stench, not poison. The red eyes look creepier in the mound the oil, before you see his head. Once you see his face, it looks half goofy half creepy, the eyes and mosquito/injector being the only things you see out of the oil is way scarier. It does fit though "oh my god this is creepy... and now it's silly." I do love his sound design. The hell you talking about? It's the music from the oilwell basin trailer. I do love this music though, I'll agree there.
The color grading changes depending on the weather period. During the Fallow period everything looks muddy and washed-out, during the inclemency the weather changes and the area becomes more hostile. During the Plenty period the saturation of the colors is increased and everything is much more vibrant. No, the game won't look entirely like this.
Bow needs a serious nerf. That last scene before he dies is just sigh worthy. Especially after seeing the heavy bowgun play (wasn't the most optimal performance I know) deal pitiful damage, the bow is just ridiculous in comparison.
They did nerf the bow already - that wound popping sequence is a lot slower to target all wounds. Instead of a quick, split second target of all active wounds it's a much slower, one by one targeting.
@@willbrolley262 That helps for sure, just not sure if it's enough to justify a more fair damage system against the rest of the weapons across the board

Nah, it's nothing even relatively close to Wroggi than a venom sacks, it's like Pukei as distant relative as well because it spits poison
