My problems exist mostly with the community. WoW peaked at a time when the world was just different. In terms of the internet in general, but also gaming. We live in a time of impatience, instant gratification and play to win mentalities. While these have existed for many years, it’s only gotten more prevalent and acceptable in recent times. What this does is create people who have lost their way in terms of learning content, getting better and enjoying the experience. This behavior extends to all facets of the game and it saddens me a lot
I do agree, the community can drive someone's experience, but I also think that developers should be responsible for that, in that behavior is a reflection of their design. So the problems of the community is one of their making.
Well, I guess you dont understand where it is coming from. People playing Wow nowadays arent the same teenagers they were 15 years ago where they had too much of a free time on their hands. No wonder people arent as patient as they were back in the days when they have kids, wifes/husbands and jobs lol
@ Not everyone was a teenager when they started playing WoW. I sure wasn’t. The entire world is different than even 5 years ago. Culture has changed. Technology has changed. People in general are much more disconnected from others and are impatient than they used to be. This is one of the prices we pay as conveniences are given to us in life. This extends to everything and especially gaming-people suck these days and these same people play WoW and will happen to be in some of your groups
Classic vs retail, old vs modern. I found a happy medium with the SoDcore... retail lite, or classis plus, as the case may be. Talk of a brand new WoW raid and maybe the Lich King having a guest appearance. SoD is putting DK starting zone assets into play. Would be.... unexpected, to get access to a hero class DK in SoD.
I‘ve played the game on and off for years now. I played pretty much non stop from the original AQ event to the end of wrath. Then I just played a couple months every few years here and there. The only x-pac I didn’t play at all was shadow lands (it just looked cringe from the beginning to me). I still fallow the game casually, but my interest dwindles a little bit more every time I play. The game is good, but I just feel board with the formula. I feel like this is the main reason most people fall off, but you don’t really hear about it because, like me, these people don’t really have any strong feelings on the subject. Due to this, the silent majority of players who “quit” don’t feel the need to broadcast the reasons they aren’t playing anymore.
there's quite a bit of things i don't like right now entirely in general between classic wow and current wow atm. it's mainly the community as a whole... it doesn't matter which side was better cause both sides suck balls. got people thinking they're hot shit in the game and they just ruin it for the rest of us and start getting resentful towards these people as a whole. it doesn't matter which version you play. I love the QoL stuff in the current WoW and some of the difficulties in it but not to where it gets more overly difficult where people just out right quitting in mythic+ keys and in raids PUG wise raiding though can be very difficult if you the people/players don't have synergy. It does become not fun at all in general in a old videogame. I can go on about other things but then it just becomes a rant.
Modern WoW is not the WoW it was. Thats why it's hated. Personally I don't like the story and lacking community feelin. I gave up with retail after Legion. (playing sinds US beta) but it's not dying.
I understand Siren Isle isnt doing it for you... here's my copy pasta to my guild: "Everyone in guild is so excited about the "content" patch that everyone is online playing. Looks to me like i have 2 months to farm 1 ring". I have a goal every season, get to heroic ilevel, 2-2500k in M+ and possibly AoTC in raid if i want it(benefits of being in a mythic guild who does anyone can come for heroic Fridays). Basically... i havent played retail in over a month and the guild is virtually dead except for 3 hours, 3 nights a week for guild members to gear alts. Im a gear chaser, like so many others. If i get a mount, mog, pet whilst doing the content, great. Do i actively work to acquire those things... no. I personally dont see the point. I dont have hate for retail, it just doesnt have the sustainable longevity in each season to keep a person like me active in the game on a daily without the high potential for burnout occurring. So... im playing the new classic fresh while i wait for season 2. Its definitely way more chill and the leveling is great. But people have to realize that these are 2 completely different versions of the game. Each have their positives and negatives. Just enjoy what you want, take breaks... which for you as a content creator is more difficult i understand that, play all versions of WoW because you will have a different experience in them.
I like the simpler gameplay of classic wow but I hate the forced grouping culture. I like the breadth of content of retail wow but I hate the modern systems. Can't win.
I'm not trying to defend bliz, because they definitely have their shortcomings. But the "bot" problem is entirely player created. There wouldn't be a market for it if there weren't any buyers.
Wow shutting down??? HAHAHAHA nope it makes money it'll be there as long as that continues. I've been playing wow since the beginning. I stopped for 3 months when xbox 360 came out because I got crazy addicted to achievements. I regret that so much. Classic is cool but I played it when it was WOW not classic so I don't really wanna play that over and over. I when nuts in remix to get all the panda mounts but not because it was like OP old school. I just wanted all the mounts. Modern WOW is so like perfectly optimized. They make some mistakes right but what 20 year old game doesn't?
@@ShawnSetGO 53 seconds in and then the posters comment. Then the others saying it's dead. I didn't imply you said that I was just reacting while watching your video :)
I'm Starting to really drift away from wow just due to the fact that just M+ isnt fun anymore. DF s1-s3 were so enjoyable for me and s3 we saw a lot of people really doing them but now its like no one really does them a lot of people dont like the new squish (im included i hate it) theres the new affixes that are just straight garbage, The amount of mechanics that both bosses & trash packs have is becoming so annoying to keep up with and theres no just chill keys anymore for the casuals who you know dont care to really put 100% of effort into running a dungeon. Yes theres normal and herioc dungeons but those get so boring after like you do 5 of them and since M+ is an infinitely scaling system it was nice having the 2-10s being these keys anyone could just clear quickly so if they wanted to swap classes to play for next season or just have they could and the squish kind of killed that for a lot of people too.
The people that tend to overly criticize retail the most aren’t the ones playing it. There’s been this hate boner the Classic community has for some reason, those people can just be outright ignored. Classic (only) players do not offer objective feedback to things like PvP, raid tunings, class tunings and mythic+ Personally, I think retail has been a lot of fun and has came a long way just since Dragonflight alone. I think people that are unhappy with WoW in general just need to take a break and come back with a healthier mindset. As for whether WoW respects your time or not, intimately it’s an MMORPG. Classic doesn’t respect your time, retail practically hands you everything for little time and effort.
You made a bunch of generalizations about the classic community and inserted your own personal anecdote and positioned it as fact. Wild that you dont see an issue with that
@ Because most people don’t sit around and complain about a game they enjoy, to be honest. Most people would agree retail has been very good this expansion. I would be interested in hearing actual criticisms, but not vague (and frankly untrue) statements about the game not respecting your time. Retail does nothing but respect your time, you can get a lot more done with limited time unlike Classic.
There is an obvious rift between the communities. Classic is more for people who enjoy slower traditional RPGs and retail is for those who prefer faster paced action RPGs. Also, The main gripe I see classic players have about retail are about the severe lack of social interaction and community. The MMO part of retail is actually in Discord and not within the game like it should be. Players in retail feel less like players and more like sentient NPCs going about their day
@ That is not necessarily true, retail is what you make it. I’ve had just as much social interaction raiding in retail than I have in Classic because the raids are easy and you typically don’t need to say much. Discord is a requirement because the content requires communication, I don’t see how that’s a bad thing though. WoW has always used voice chat channels since the beginning. Btw though, this rift you describe is pretty much one-sided. Retail community either doesn’t care about Classic so much so that it’s not on their radar or they play multiple versions of the game. There isn’t any serious Classic hating going on from the retail crowd.
WoW has not been much of a MMORPG for years.. far too much gamification within design choices leading to the death of many of its immersive qualities. Modern WoW also pushes efficiency culture which often directly opposes roleplaying/immersion 'culture'.. oftentimes immersive/roleplaying elements are inefficient or a 'waste of time' to min/max players because they truly are inefficient. But immersion & roleplay have intrinsic value, separate from efficiency. Hard to appease both crowds. The last time i logged into retail (2ish years) i exited and uninstalled within 10 minutes. It felt so much like a video game and not like a living & breathing video game world.. huge difference for people like me who play games with high levels of immersion in mind. The popups and multiple windows with interfaces for mechanics and blah blah.... Just no lol... I hop onto classic WoW and im immediately in the mindset of my character. Bronzebeard isnt calling me champion, there are no WoW tokens, and im not being blasted with other nonsense popups or interfaces or systems. I log in and I'm a night elf in Ironforge, and i ask some people (humans!!) if they want to go do Gnomeregan. We meet up, run to the instance. We wait by my campfire for the last guy while hanging out with some horde players. Just a good time goofing off, efficiency in gameplay nowehere in sight, just a bunch of geeks living in the World of Warcraft. And that's not rare in classic wow. It's almost everyday I play. And that's why I play mmorpgs... The immersive worlds and roleplaying with other people. Fun for fun's sake, opposed to conditional fun (timing a M+ key, for ex) Sry for the unfocused ramble, typing on a phone lol..
the hate for me when it comes to modern wow is pretty simple...it lacks all the identity the game had from Vanilla leading up to at least mop each Xpack is a Different game, and also each Xpack became further from what made WoW well WoW...the world has become to big, old content has been left behind besides going and getting mounts or transmog, a lot of the social aspects gone and it's all mainly about lame rushing the content minmaxing and gate keeping, and expecting people to play and spec a specific way for max efficiency, which in return for me has made the game Toxic and unenjoyable...the current Dev's don't listen to anyone really other than the 1% because thats mainly who's left in the current game, theirs nothing honestly they can do to resolve the bloat or design at this point just do w/e till the sunset comes for it...I personally have been waiting for MoP Classic for 11 years now and ever since 2019 classic released I held hope out for mop to eventually come once I have gotten to relive it one last time I'm putting the game down for good and moving on and I do wish anyone who plays any version happiness and fun.
Classic wow sucks. I played it when it was retail and it was good. It’s so much better now. Getting off on nostalgia is not original but also not sustainable. Retail has issues and F ups, but it IS wow. It’s the future of wow. Classic is by definition, the past. You cannot live in the past.
Classic has a beautiful expansive world, cooperative non-linear questing, raid progression, and less toxic monetization.
