It´s so sad that this giant passed away yesterday. He lives on in his unique music. RIP Mr. McKenna.

One of the GREATEST JAZZ PIANIST OF ALL TIME. He along with Lennie Tristano really define solo piano with the walking bass line, but Dave McKenna used it in standards. This was something that Lennie Tristano did not do enough. Dave McKenna along with Oscar Perterson,Hamton Hawes & Dr Billy Taylor were some of the most amazing pianist i have ever seen. My jaw would drop when i would hear him do his "3 handed piano" approach. Ever the underated pianist, his greatness will never be seen again.

You could not have phrased it any better than you did.
I have been Dave' s fan for a long time but I still remember the first time I found his music. That three-handed piano was a devastating shock.

Dave, a self-procliamed "stride" pianist, bristled whenever someone called him a"jazz" player. Knew Dave for some years in Boston. A gentle giant, modest and self-effacing.

Thanks McKennaFan for these marvellous vidoes.
So great to see & hear this giant of the Piano.
I had the good fortune to see & hear Dave in Brisbane Australia over a three day period in 11979 which I will never forget.

I can see that it's time to dig out some of my old records by McKenna. What a consummate artist!

Mind blowing! It is fun to compare his different renditions of various
pieces, when those are available. He recorded this piece on
"Giant Strides", and also played it in a concert in Chicago. Sounds
    quite different each time.

" Good and really nice"...yes but " mind blowing "?!? ... I believe that term should be used extremely reservedly! 😏 ruclips.net/video/vd-rVYyqyhI/видео.html

Perhaps it should be used Cautiously. However my personal
opinion remains that I find the
      best performances of Dave
McKenna to be my all time
      favorites. His talent and unique
style are indeed mind blowing to me.

Is he playing 10th chords at 2:27? I`m a big Fats Waller`s fan and that "pure stride" part blown my brain. What a refined artist!!! I didn`t know him. You brought a marvelous light to my ignorance.
