That was great. I really got the feel of the extensive queue. Seems like it inspired Kong queue. I rode this with 9 year old daughter years ago. She did this coaster, but balked at RipRide.
This is a great video, thanks for sharing! I love theme park history, especially when it’s about my favorite theme park (IOA) and my favorite ride (Dueling Dragons)! To this day, no ride can compare with the original Dueling Dragons, imo. It had everything a good ride needs: thrills, surprises, originality, detailed theming, and a good story. *Also trying to find a clearer picture of the artwork shown at 3:22, if anyone knows where I can find that. Looks like a map of the islands in IOA, from the preview center.
I’ve watched a lot of videos rehashing the legacy of attractions and I have to say I love your use of wordplay and how you avoid the redundancies other channels rely on. I also love the inclusion of the final day festivities because I was unaware anything unofficial took place!
What a journey! I had the pleasure of riding the coaster as Dragon Challenge and loved it - especially the Hungarian Horntail side ;-) I wish I could've experienced it as Dueling Dragons though.
This makes me want to hunt down Dueling Dragons merch on ebay! The Dragon Challenge overlay felt weirdly cheap and half-hearted compared to the rest of the land, and the colorful tracks clashed pretty badly with Hogsmeade. I remember how unfitting it was hearing upbeat Potter music like the Buckbeak flight theme in the spooky tunnels, and how they ridiculously tried to call the bright blue Blizzrock train a "hungarian horntail." The Motorbikes are a more than worthy successor... though I wish the line moved as fast as Dueling Dragons did!
Yeah, Dragon Challenge was a reach, but it was always nice to have some version of that ride lingering on. But Hagrid's is definitely a wonderful replacement!
Loved this ride!!!! A buddy and I rode this ride 20 times in a row(while they were dueling) The cutoff was open and we kept riding fire then ice over and over until we go dizzy lol!!
I definitely miss them. If you think of VelociCoaster as the intense replacement, I'd say they did a pretty good job. Hagrid is a feat in its own, being one of the few coasters to really pull off quality storytelling on the ride.
@StorybookAmusement I have only been to the park in 2019, so I haven't got to ride velocicoaster yet. B&M inverts seem to spite me because nemesis was closed last year, and I live 3 hours away. Luckily I did get to ride the original version
Never got to ride this as Dueling Dragons. Our first visit to Universal was shortly after it had been rethemed to Dragon Challenge. Sorry to see it go. Hagrid's Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure is amazing though! So that helps. Love your content. Keep up the great work!

honestly i do not miss this attraction. don’t get me wrong, looking back on it now i really appreciate the elaborate theming of dueling dragons! but when i was a kid the queue scared the shit out of me. the coasters themselves were also kinda rough tbh. every time i rode either of them, i got a headache afterwards lmao

Alongside Kongfrontation, this is the attraction I personally miss most at Universal. Truly one of a kind!

The queue is what really separated ride from your everyday roller coaster. I’m impressed she got on it! Good thing too now that it’s gone!

B&M inverts are my favourite coasters and I am salty they removed it because Hagrid's isn't as intense as I would like it to be
