I think that even more importantly there has to be a wall between free speech and harassment.
A student is walking home from class, and a mob follows him, yelling obscenities and h..eful things RUclips wouldn't let me say.
Free speech? No, harassment. Students need to be clearly told that.
Today this stuff is not allowed towards non-Jewish students. But it is allowed towards Jewish students. This is the problem.

Something like 1/3 of all missiles that Hamas fires into Israel (12,000 since the conflict started) fall short and land in Gaza.
The Hamas-run 'Health Ministry' counts in their casualty counts Gazan civilians killed by Hamas, by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, by friendly fire, by stray fire, by death from illness and dehydration, by death from Israeli fire. They combine terrorists and civilians into a single number, and the number of deaths is likewise exaggerated.
It is truly remarkable how the Hamas ‘Health Ministry’ was and is able to produce and provide data of casualties in the multiple thousands in a matter of minutes, or even hours, like 5,000 children, 12,000 people without the benefit of fuel and electricity.
We are being asked to believe that within hours, Hamas ‘Health Ministry’ is able to put out fires, clear the rubble, and accurately count how many people died in an explosion or strike. That is simply impossible, even as a close estimate.
The best governments in the world would weeks to figure out a preliminary number of dead in a situation like this.
Where is the Hamas Health Ministry located exactly? In the tunnels, the bunkers? Where? They seem to manage the feat of being invisible, or is it a matter of there's no there there?
It took Israel 5 weeks which was last week to get an exact figure on their dead civilians, with the most up to date forensic technology & several hundred dedicated medical team 24/7 on the case so it’s impossible for the Hamas controlled terrorist health ministry to know how many dead there are in minutes, the majority of their figures must not be civilians but Hamas combatants. They are providing figures on which would be easier for them to count.
Take all that together and you begin to understand why the numbers are jumping from day to day, from 10,000 to 12,000 to 15,000 to 18,000 to 20,000. Basically, add up the number of people who typically die in Gaza on an ordinary Tuesday + the extra people who have died due to general military conditions on the ground + people who are killed by Hamas + terrorists who are killed by Israel, and you can approach the numbers that the Hamas ‘Health Ministry’ puts out.

The codes of conduct at the Universities don't have to be reworked. They merely have to be applied fairly and to all. For almost decades, and certainly the past 15 years, these 'codes' did not apply when Jewish students were being harassed and threatened.

It's not just a double standard against Jews but also against whites and particularly white men. It is crazy to me that it has to be said - but there shouldn't be calls to commit genocide against anyone or discrimination against anyone based on their race, skin color, gender, or national origin. Where have I heard that before? Oh, in the Civil Rights Act. Why do people talk and act like these are not our established principles?? As if we didn't learn anything from the past. ☹️

Calling for the genocide of ANY group of people should not be allowed in ANY circumstance and the fact that this is protected speech in the US may just be one of the most disturbing things about the US. Talk about taking free speech to the extreme. I’m all for free speech and think limitations should be applied sparingly however this if anything should be one of those limitations. In this instance the line between advocacy and incitement is very nebulous while advocacy alone is heinous enough that it should not be tolerated in any way shape or form. Would any of these naive and low IQ free speech absolutists still support the right for Nazi Germany to advocate for the genocide of a particular group in WWII?

    • @skiamach6208
      @skiamach6208 8 месяцев назад +1

I agree that calling for genocide is morally reprehensible. The problem is that language is flexible and sometimes we exaggerate and overstate. What about a statement like "all murderers should be executed?" Should that not be allowed? What about a statement like "I think the world would be better off if there were no redheads in it" (sorry redheads just a hypothetical). Does that count as a call to genocide? What about language such as "we are in a war with cops" or "we are in a war with [insert group here]"? Isn't that similar to a call for violence/genocide? Who gets to decide what is "extreme"? And that ultimately is the scariest question. The example here with the University presidents should actually teach us that we should not restrict any speech unless it is a direct and immediate call to violence. The Universities have cancelled speech they don't like and claim that such speech is harassment. Many people on the left think that speech alone is violent and if someone states something that contradicts their opinion, they will claim it is an act of genocide. No thanks! I do not want people's philosophical statements (even ones I think are morally reprehensible) subject to legal action by politically motivated judges.

By the way, yes, we would support the Nazi's right to free speech. Once upon a time the ACLU (which I have many political disagreements with) advocated for the right of a group of neo-Nazis to conduct a rally in the late '70s in Skokie, Illinois. I only wish they still believed in free speech like they once did.

Just think of them like Soviet apparatchiks, whom they closely resemble. All that matters in the educational bureaucracy is loyalty to the Party, the Dem Party, of course. One and all, they are biocommunists. That Harvard President has published a total of 11 academic papers in her career. In her field, the average professor publishes that many each year. Academic merit is irrelevant, only Party loyalty counts. This is also why their words and thoughts are almost identical: they all follow the Party Line, which is how they rose to lead their universities.

Sorry, no. Universities should not be allowed to tolerate calls to violent action. Calls for river to the sea and globalize the intifada are direct calls for violent action. Though racist comments about black inferiority or different views about pronouns could imply action, they merely express opinions without directly calling for action or inciting violence. Calling for and inciting violence should certainly go against university policy as well as explicitly tolerating and condoning it.

Professor Dershowitz and others should consider the impact of the Frankfurt School. They are mesmerized by the school's Critical Race Theory. The school, whose advocates were mostly Jewish, was founded in the Weimar Republic after WWI. German Gentiles saw the school's left-wing ideology as an attack on traditional German cultural values which in turn, contributed to the rise of Hitler.
It is all well and good for Professor Dershowitz to have reached out to the greater American community, but more must be done. Greater transparency is required, from him and many, many others.
