      Yeah, you always hope these people will stay the way they were or at least around, forever. Caught an episode of Bonanza the other day and started Googling and found that literally everyone associated with the show is dead. Scary how age gets us.

      Surely if there Shatner and Nimoy were still great friends, Shatner would have simply cancelled the gig. And surely the charity would have understood why he was cancelling, and perhaps just rescheduled Shatners appearance.
      Noone is going to begrudge a much beloved actor like William Shatner failing to show because he's at Spocks funeral.
      Especially not from a charity. They would recognize the damage to their public image if it came out they had forced Shatner, under threat of being sued, to miss Nimoys funeral. And I daresay any fans who had shown up to see Shatner would have understood why he wasn't there, so wouldn't be angry at either the charity or Shatner.

      @@smoog Shatner has talked about this. For whatever reason, for the last few years of his life, Nimoy cut off contact with him. Shatner kept trying to talk to him, but Nimoy never responded. Shatner said he stopped talking to his son too, for the last year he was alive.

For some reason I do not hold this against them -- maybe it's the general affection I feel for the actors and what I perceive to be the pleasant vibe of the commercial. There's such a thing as the spoils of success and clearly Shatner and Nimoy are reaping it here. They are lucky to have been in a position to profit from this opportunity. If I had a famous face and someone offered me this kind of work, I would at the very least be tempted. There are so many things to be outraged over in this life, and there are certain people out there for whom I have much animus. I just don't feel it here.

      @@apparently2 That's also fair enough. I've just never understood why somebody would buy a product simply because a famous actor is being (over) paid to push it. Or why those actors would take money for doing so little, whilst the crew around them are paid so much less. It's an insane world.

    Bill and Leonard had such great camaraderie chemistry. They played really well off each other, be it in shows, movies, and commercials.

    We had so many more carriers back then, before they all merged. I miss Western. A friend of mine is a ticket agent at the counter at SFO and she told me that Leonard Nimoy appeared in her line one day (this was years ago). She said he couldn't have been a nicer customer.

      My dad loved star trek and all these old shows.
      Only reason I can watch them now is cus of the internet.
      If it was up to the cable companies, we would be forced to watch the same toddler stimulation that they put up on RUclips kids.
      As corny as it sounds, theres a reason why kids nowadays watch so much anime.
      The Japanese dont insult the intelligence of their viewers.
      The Japanese also dont tolerate braindead bullshit as much as Americans do.

      @@ЛентяйЁпта I lived from the 60's onwards and a lot of 1930's films, and their actors, were so melodramatic it was like watching paint dry or grass grow. Only the cream rose to the top.

    What great memories of a lovely era long ago and a nice commercial. This is when you could buy a ticket at the counter on whim and waltz onto the plane in literally 15 minutes before departure. No TSA and no trouble.

      @@omi_god. There were very very few. I can find only a few alleged disgruntled employees attempting to take control of the plane. An intentional ditching into the Hudson River, Sully style is statistically far more likely to happen, especially with armored cockpit doors, and Air Marshals now normal.

Statistically nothing to worry about, and with a few simple measures, like locking the freaking cockpit door and keeping an occasional incognito armed guard aboard just to keep assholes guessing, it’s no longer even a statistical blip. It doesn’t exist . We are needlessly being strip searched, our belongings taken apart, probed, get millimeter wave scanned, groped publicly and held in human cattle chutes . it’s really just humiliating conditioning by the government

      Food for thought; the TSA is stress tested several times each year. They have failed to prevent 9 11 repeatedly for the last near 20 years. All the body scanners and shoes off stuff is pointless. Makes me miss the 80s even more

    My family got to see the play Caligula, starring Leonard Nimoy in Dallas Texas. We got to sit in the front row and as kids we didn't understand the play or care but we were "Star Struck" (excuse the pun!) by Leonard Nimoy. We got to watch Star Trek Reruns and were fans. He was a amazing actor. ❣️❣️

      As far as TFF goes, there was a writers strike going on, so they were stuck with an early draft...and they should've gone with an ILM B-team instead of a VFX company that was over their head...and Shatner shouldn't stuck with acting

      @@nawtsurprised i am referring to US carriers. Rumor has it Orville Wright had a heated salami sandwich on his maiden flight but after that it’s been all downhill as far as inflight meals on US carriers

      @@jinzhang8241 In regards to US carriers, I'm in absolute agreement. And it's not just the food which leaves much to be desired, but the quality of service and demeanor of the flight crews as well. It's completely horrible, which is why (in the past) I've spent the extra money and time simply to avoid them whenever possible.

    My first trip to Hawaii in 1985 was on Western Airlines and they did have that volcano punch bowl giving everyone some punch before landing.

      Western, Eastern and Northwest are all gone now. The only directional named airline left is Southwest

    Remember when they used to roll out lots of great food? I remember flying in 1968 (when people still got dressed up). It was early morning and I was flying with my grandparents. I had pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon (oj and milk). I really liked the breakfast but got scolded for spilling the syrup. Nice memory though sitting next to my grandpa and 1st flight.

      I remember flying when I was a kid and the stewardess handed out chewing gum. I thought it was really neat, but it was so our ears wouldn’t pop. Good old days. And no , Wilber and Orville weren’t flying the plane.
