I hope this will be comment 33! Dear SCV! There is much, perhaps too much to share about the piece itself, the response of 10,000 people in a Bull Fight Ring many years ago!, the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy and much more...but WOW to the brass players from SCV! WOW! Blown away! I think even the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy would be "wowed!" by your incredibleplaying! "WOW" was the acronym I used when composing "Wait of the World" 20 years ago. And that's the only word for you guys... "Wow!" Thank you and Godspeed! Steve
answering a few years late but scv's music arranger is jd shaw (a french horn god, former member of the boston brass, and current french horn professor at the university of south carolina among many other things)
@@brandonbeck823he wrote and taught that sound into his lines at Phantom as well. I remember watching the 18 SCV show, and I could tell by the Mello line that it was a JD book.
Viper360 they are but you would be amiss if you didn't check out the late 80's ... mellophone were pretty hot back then. Also in 1970 when they were introduced to the activity... Royal Aires and La Salle were kinda the best mellows out there.
Connor,As an SCV lead baritone alum from the "Stream of Second Place" years (mid 80s plus one of the Jim Ott Award winning brass lines) who just underwent his 5th major surgery in the last 6 months, thank you for posting this; it helps my recovery a lot. My son marched the Rose Parade in January 2017 with some of the musicians in this video and is currently on tour with SCVC; now I see what he meant when he told me how playing with these folks elevated his playing level-- wow! Anyway, Mahalo Nui Loa from Hawaii!
There is certainly something to be said about their hornline. Such control, power, and musicality. I'm hoping Vanguard kicks some serious butt this year. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for sharing, Connor. I had to play this in my car, just to get the full compliment of sound on decent speakers. Those show runs are sounding so clean and crisp. I can't wait to see you guys again in San Antonio!
This is really what I need. It's so powerful and emotional for me and I can't wait any longer to see the show, this is why I love and learn the music of you guys, because you know how to make music great! I love this so much!
This year has soo many good Cores I'm going crazy trying to pick my favorite, like Crown and BAC sound amazing but after hearing SVC, I think I'll just give up and enjoy every Core!
Good for Vanguard seeming to have 'it' this year...but dear lord, has everyone subscribed to this warm-up style of running through the show in the warm up lot and having everyone dance their routine? I'm asking honestly...
Jay D a lot of corps do it to ensure proficiency in lining up visuals and playing. It sort of locks in the performance element. Batteries have done it for a while now, and it's been working, so it makes sense for everyone else.
Luca Levandofsky nope they are there! Wearing the gray uniforms. It’s a little hard to see them, but we would always play together as a full hornline after we broke apart for subs/tuning
I'm not at all confident Vanguard will win the championship. I hope they do, but history says that honor will probably go to Devils given their record when undefeated in late summer. Whatever the final placements, I am confident that this Vanguard show will be one that we're sill talking about in 10, 15, 20 years. It's just one of those shows.
when it comes to technical playing, crown is still on top. I thought vanguards horn line was incredible this year, Im not ready to admit any horn line can top crown though.. just my opinion.

There is something so darn cutting about the sound of SCV's brasslines, especially so this year. Cannot wait to hear them live this year!
MinkyBoodle44 for real tho man
Can SOMEONE tell me why their mellos sound so much more like french horns compared to other corps? The sound is so dark and rich!

@@brandonbeck823 THATS IT! That almost orchestral sound they had in 2017... Makes complete sense.

One of the all time greatest DCI horn books and lines. Unbelievable!!!
LOVE HOW VANGUARD SNAP THEIR HORNS ❤💚❤💚
By far the best mellophone section in DCI!
Viper360 they are but you would be amiss if you didn't check out the late 80's ... mellophone were pretty hot back then. Also in 1970 when they were introduced to the activity... Royal Aires and La Salle were kinda the best mellows out there.
Viper360 blue stars?...
Crown..?
I still think Cadets ‘15 were the best for at least modern mellos
TweetyBird You have clearly never seen Crown’s mellos

Baritones/euphs sound so amazing at 1:33!!! love it!
The mellos with the last chord at the end ❤💚❤💚
There is certainly something to be said about their hornline. Such control, power, and musicality. I'm hoping Vanguard kicks some serious butt this year. Keep up the amazing work!
I can confidently say that, in my opinion, this is the best mello line in DCI history. Fantastic job this summer.
It is UNBELIEVABLE how much the mellows just shred and CUT through the sound like a hot knife through butter starting at 1:38!!! INCREDIBLE!!!
DAMN! Just WOW. This is my corps! So proud i was a part of this years ago. Bring it home SCV! i know this year could be the year!

Everyone was too busy listening to that snap though

The hornline is on fire 😍!! Soooo good
this might be the craziest lot video ive seen
i could bathe in that last chord!
Can someone explain to me how they lost? I'm still confused.
They got redemption in 2018 and they are hopefully gonna dominate in 2019 and in the future going on.
No dislikes. Just how it should be. Especially with the mello line they have this year 👌🏼
1:14 like getting punched in the face but in the best way possible
This year has soo many good Cores I'm going crazy trying to pick my favorite, like Crown and BAC sound amazing but after hearing SVC, I think I'll just give up and enjoy every Core!
what was the note the mellos played at the end?
Austen Diaz high concert F
a high C on mellophone

I remember in your vlog you said there are a lot of mello rips, you weren't lyin
Wait so did the small ensemble players go into a separate lot? Because I don’t see them or hear their parts.
Luca Levandofsky nope they are there! Wearing the gray uniforms. It’s a little hard to see them, but we would always play together as a full hornline after we broke apart for subs/tuning
1:35 mellow are unreal
The guy in orange is one of my high school directors
Mellophones at 4:48 #shit
holy mellophones 1:28
The 1 dislike was from a Blue Devils fan
football should be played during the halftime of brass line competitions. priorities...
Easily this years winning show.

Mellos 1:46 😲😲😲😊😊
Oh good god of midrange horns...
I feel violated by this hornline in the best kind of way.
Something about 1:42 - 1:46 has me weak
