Precisely, I wish that Elle would have gone to therapy, rather than needlessly lashing out at almost everyone around her. Her father's girlfriend seemed super nice and friendly, and while it's understandable that Elle would feel threatened over her dad moving on so quickly, he was right in that he'd put her and her brother first for the past six years, so he deserved some form of happiness.
I mean many girls are like this though, it is kind of painfully accurate... we get pushed around because nobody ever taught us that's it's ok to have boundaries. This is how I could have ended up if I hadn't learnt how to stand up for myself. She is annoying AS FUCK tho 😅😅
I KNOW! It reminds me Pretty little liars, where all the high school characters were mostly trying to figure out who A was and sleeping with each other- no study sessions, barely do anything school related and then BOOM, accepted in colleges

The ONLY thing that "Kissing Booth" does right over "To All the Boys" is having Elle and Noah break up before she goes to college. Your high school boyfriend or girlfriend isn't always "The One", so it was more realistic than Peter and Lara Jean's "We're not like the other couples."
But sometimes your hishschool sweetheart IS the one tho, so why would they have to break up necessarily? I don’t watch either of these movie series, but yeah. Both ways is fine. Some can rock a long distance relationship, and some can’t.
It honestly depends, I said this to a friend once and she was like "Honestly a lot of my high school friends married their high school boyfriends." Some people survive being long distance to be fair. It's just half the time in these movies I don't see a reflection of a couple that *would* survive long distance.

So many things about these movies are unrealistic and absurd. But I think one of the most absurd things is these character casually getting into places like Harvard or UC Berkeley. Like when have we seen these character actually do school work, extra curriculars, or have jobs??

Also, do you really just apply _to a university_ in the US and only later decide what you actually want to study? Is that actually a thing? In Germany you have to apply for a specific course, because there's limits and stuff.

I was so fucking relieved when Mrs Flynn FINALLY said to Elle what she should have learned in the first movie: maybe you shouldn't make life altering decisions based on what other people want from you. I thought they were going to be bold and actually end the movie with them broken up, but this reconnecting thing was fine enough, it's ok. The ending was not as bad as I thought it would be, but we can confirm this universe has NEVER experienced corona, cause there's no scenario I can see where we can let shit like kissing booths happen ever again. Also I kind of hated Noah in the first movie, but I gotta admit he is the one who grew the most throughout these movies - he went from abusive violent jerk to regular annoying boy. Rachel gets a lot of shit for being very bland but I think she was also one of the best characters, she kissed Lee in the first movie despite everyone mocking him, stuck out in a relationship she was never valued a lot and when she felt it was time to end it, she went and did it with no drama. And Chloe is just like, chef's kiss, I have no complaints. I was just confused when she said she is 23, I thought she was 18/19 like Noah and Elle.
Exactly my thoughts! Noah was mature enough to end things with Elle because he didn't want to get in the way of her living her dreams. Even though it was implied that they would eventually go back to each other, I thought that them breaking up earlier realistic. Rachel was an underrated character, who loved Lee, even when he didn't always appreciate her. She made the right choice in breaking up with Lee, but it felt a little cliché that they got back together after five minutes screentime, which was six years off camera.
sadly kissing booths will absolutely continue to be a thing because there have been several devastating pandemics that happened in history like every century or something, and somehow we as a species keep forgetting how to react to these situations 😭
Precisely, but because the first movie was so popular, a sequel was inevitable, and of course it got TWO! I much prefer "To All the Boys", because the characters are more likeable, and we're more invested in Peter and Lara Jean's relationship.
What fascinates me is that completely unrelated genres like Animated Fantasy Series get far better what a good relationship is about. Castlevania is way better at showing love than god damn ROMANTIC MOVIES.
God, I hate how Wattpad has been known as the site that produces trashy teenage romance. God, I remember when the site had good stories that weren’t romances. I remember reading wonderful fantasy adventures and gripping zombie survival. Like, shit, why couldn’t those have gotten adaptations instead?

I know a lot of people didn’t like Noah but he was the only one who actually learned anything before the end of the trilogy. Probably because Chloe is his friend and the best character. Elle and Lee just kept having the same drama over and over again.
He was better in the latter movies but like it was so sudden, he's barely recognisable from the first movie, there's no sloop just a jump off a cliff in character arc

The fact that gets to me in these movies is that these characters get into these prestigious or well know colleges/universities that are difficult to get into when we have seen them not do the work to get into them. The only character that I can get getting into one is like Gabriella from HSM. When Noah got into Harvard in the first movie I was making sure I heard right. Cause the amount of school violence that is literally apart of his character should be enough to not even really look at his application.
TBH I always considered that perhaps the reason they were able to get into these schools is because their parents are rich. For them to get into Berkley was perhaps a result of legacy admissions because Noah and Lee's mom, Molly Ringwald went there with Elle's mom.
Plus in this they added the additional lack of realism by sort combining the idea that of being a professional gamer and being a game designer/developer/programmer. Super different things, especially for schooling for design/develepment/programming, they aren't usually something you want to just decide on out of the blue. There's a lot of actual work that goes into making games, stuff you don't really get to experience just by playing them. It's like expecting to go to med school and expecting it to just be writitng down symptoms and handing out medications. But I guess they're really not going for realism, so.
I'd also like to add that Elle Woods from Legally Blonde also did the work to get into Harvard, so I think even tho its a bit of a stretch, she could've definitely got in since it showed her putting in the time and effort to get into that school
Also also, Elle Woods got into Harvard Law, and she's already a straight 4.0 student in a fictionalized version of UCLA. She is a great student in a great school to begin with, whereas Elle in KB is... mediocre at best? I always chalk Noah being accepted into Harvard as him being good at sport or something, though. I have no idea how good he was because the movie never really talked about it
"Lee and Rachel break up" me : yes! at least there is ONE good thing i could say about this trash movie "They get back together" Rip Rachel's sanity And who would say Noah would be the only character with SOME develoment.
Can we talk about the fact that Rachel, while lovely, looks more like 30 than 18? It takes me right out of the story, trying to believe she’s a teenager.

Marco pulled a Jacob, where in the previous movie he actually seemed like the better choice and is nice and king and caring, but in the next movie he turns full nice guy that keeps fucking chasing the girl after being pushed away several times.
My aunt made me watch the movie just an hour ago and while watching that I was like “Yay! They shat on the only one other decent character from the second movie! I wanna die 😃👍!”
For me the issue I had with marco and Jacob was that they obsessed about being perfect guy for Ella and bella. Not once did they realise that both girls were using them to make their slightly toxic boyfriends jealous so neither girl was perfect for them. I found it weird that 4 attractive men with a bit of personality are obsessing about wet blankets like ella and Bella.

These movies where impossibly dense people get into impossibly difficult schools are so incredibly laughable. And no one in these films acts even remotely like a real human. I think this shit is even worse than some of the bad '80s and '90s teen films with which I grew up.
The most unrealistic thing about this entire movie is that decision day for college/university is MAY 1ST meaning that the main conflict of this movie is entirely null
They had Lee become friends with a guy who was his clone and going to Berkeley as well. I thought that would be the conflict , where Lee is pulling away and Elle is being clingy for a change. Then Lee could have an aha moment about his own selfishness and clingy ness.
Man Noah actaully turned out to be the cool guy and Ella became the emotionally immature and stupid asshole by the end of the trilogy. It's literally Twighlight except Bella and Edward swap roles by the end.
I'm surprised Marco wasn't fired for organizing Elle's Mario Kart challenge. I seriously doubt the owners would be happy that a bunch of kids wanted to recreate a video game that involved crashing into each other and throwing dangerous objects in the race, while causing a lot of damage to their go-carts and the track itself.
I screamed when Marco told Elle that only one thing would have held him back from leaving L.A (besides his family) it's been less than a year since he knew her

They (series) always seem to do this thing where they try to make the second love interest worse than the first. Marco would have been fine if he didn't kept going trying to win Elle. Why did they make him be this way, and why did he say his final goodbye like that too?!
Got the vibe from the first movie and the sequels that Lee is secretly in love with Elle but the movies didn't want that so they gave him Rachel as an obligatory love interest so they could try to redirect his romantic feelings away from Elle.
I got that feeling, too. They didn't have to be endgame (and honestly that would've been too predictable if they were) but they should have at least had a conversation about the possibility of them being something more between them.
They tried not making a love tent only to still make it seem that way with how clingy Lee was while saying "but they were childhood friends, so of course he's like this." Completely forgetting the age old childhood friend vs bad boy love tents. (Saying love tents because love triangles actually don't connect, and it would be weird here if it did.)

The second half of this movie is just characters having conversations. I had to force myself to finish it because I watched the first two and I have a hard time quitting things apparently
@@otterlyemusing6688 From the little bits I remember (repressed memories at this point lmao), the fact that before they even dated he didn't allow anyone to ask her out or when they were already a couple I think in one scene he scared her by hitting a car or something in a fit of rage. However he did get some character development and we get to fully see that on this movie.
@@otterlyemusing6688 lot of violent outbursts whenever he got upset, he at one point was upset she had another love interest (pre-dating) and sorta slut-shamed her for it while threatening to hurt the dude and any other guys who liked her if they even spoke with her. This is all while never really expressing that he was into her in a serious manner. He also was a bit too forward while she was intoxicated, I remember him touching her (picking up, grabbing etc.) in a manner that isn't appropriate for a "best friend's brother" but that's fuzzy.
KB Elle: I got into Harvard! Legally Blonde Elle: What, like it's hard? This was like the 4th season of 13 Reasons...waaay too much crammed in, except things here were resolved. I still lost brain cells watching.
At least its somewhat believable for the Legally Blonde Elle to get into Harvard. She actually studied for the LSATs, had a 4.0 GPA, had plenty of extracurriculars. I mean, sure, there were some relatively unrealistic aspects of it as well but it wasn't entirely out of nowhere for her. The KB Elle though.... yeah HOW?! On another note, may I also mention that the Legally Blonde Elle was also a very likeable protagonist who could be looked up to. This Elle, not so much. (I have no idea why my reply is so long lol)

It would have been nice if Elle had ditched Berkeley and Harvard to go to a trade school. Netflix is single-handedly pressuring youth into going to get fancy and expensive university educations. Would have at least been a nice change to see another pathway to success offered.
I also thought Elle was going to take a different path, I really thought she was going to go to a community college or something while she figured out what she wanted to study, but then the movie made it so that she went from having zero idea of what she wanted to suddenly deciding she liked video games enough to design them as a career. I agree with you that this movie would have been the perfect opportunity for Netflix to show "non-traditional" paths to success.
I agree. As someone who transferred into UCB, it would have been both a good representation and more realistic. Also, I think one of the big insults was that after turning down to prestigious schools, she somehow was able to get into another one without doing any work or internship.

the tagline of this read "end of an era" and i used to think twilight was giving itself way more importance with those end credits of breaking dawn part 2 . The director needs to realise this aint Lord of the rings or culmination of some epic saga its a teen rom com trilogy.

The ending of the Twilight franchise WAS the end of an era. Twilight opened the doors for many young adult authors and started the frenzy of adapting books into movies. The kissing both trilogy its just a joke.

Okay. I couldn’t figure out what it was, but even though teen dramas do sensationalize the American teenage experience it still resembles American high schools depending on the locations (small town, LA suburbs, NYC all have different experiences). But for some reason, this always felt so off to me about this series. It didn’t feel like a high school in California (or the US) at all, and finding out the author is Welsh makes so much sense. Lol why not just set it in the UK? That also explains why in the last movie they had thanksgiving dinner at like 1 pm and half-assed the spill all the drama during thanksgiving trope
Even if it was set in Wales, there's so way Netflix would've set it there. Most of you americans seem to misunderstand how hard it is for things set in other countries to become mainstream and popular.

The only reason I watched the movie was because some of it was shot down the road from me and I played a game guessing where in South Africa (Cape Town/ Durban) the different scenes were shot location wise.

The only shred of credit I will give this movie is that the couples all chose to hit pause on their relationships for the sake of figuring themselves out before continuing. Something you don’t often see in teen romcoms. So like, ten points for that. Minus fifty for everything else.
I am just here being amazed that we went from "the main love interest is so abusive and a controlling asshole" to "no one is good enough for the main love interest". Like, maybe just the fact that they have been away for so long is the only thing keeping him in check and he will get back to his asshole ways as soon they lived together... or they completely forgot the characterization they gave him on the first movie. I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I wish these sorts of movies targeted at teens didn't constantly set such unrealistic bars with things like getting into ridiculously good colleges and just deciding on a whim to get into a career like video game design/development just because you enjoy playing video games. While I know they're not really going for realism, they can't even bother to get their concepts straight. "Going pro" as a professional gamer is an ENTIRELY different thing than getting into a career as a game designer/developer, and just deciding to do the latter on a whim based on enjoying playing video games is the equivalent of deciding to be a doctor because you think talking to patients about symptoms and handing out medication seems like it would be fun. Feels like setting up a bunch of kids for disappointment at the very least, failure at worst.

The ONLY thing that "Kissing Booth" does right over "To All the Boys" is having Elle and Noah break up before she goes to college. Your high school boyfriend or girlfriend isn't always "The One", so it was more realistic than Peter and Lara Jean's "We're not like the other couples."
But sometimes your hishschool sweetheart IS the one tho, so why would they have to break up necessarily? I don’t watch either of these movie series, but yeah. Both ways is fine. Some can rock a long distance relationship, and some can’t.
It honestly depends, I said this to a friend once and she was like "Honestly a lot of my high school friends married their high school boyfriends." Some people survive being long distance to be fair. It's just half the time in these movies I don't see a reflection of a couple that *would* survive long distance.

I was so fucking relieved when Mrs Flynn FINALLY said to Elle what she should have learned in the first movie: maybe you shouldn't make life altering decisions based on what other people want from you. I thought they were going to be bold and actually end the movie with them broken up, but this reconnecting thing was fine enough, it's ok. The ending was not as bad as I thought it would be, but we can confirm this universe has NEVER experienced corona, cause there's no scenario I can see where we can let shit like kissing booths happen ever again.
Also I kind of hated Noah in the first movie, but I gotta admit he is the one who grew the most throughout these movies - he went from abusive violent jerk to regular annoying boy. Rachel gets a lot of shit for being very bland but I think she was also one of the best characters, she kissed Lee in the first movie despite everyone mocking him, stuck out in a relationship she was never valued a lot and when she felt it was time to end it, she went and did it with no drama. And Chloe is just like, chef's kiss, I have no complaints. I was just confused when she said she is 23, I thought she was 18/19 like Noah and Elle.

Exactly my thoughts! Noah was mature enough to end things with Elle because he didn't want to get in the way of her living her dreams. Even though it was implied that they would eventually go back to each other, I thought that them breaking up earlier realistic. Rachel was an underrated character, who loved Lee, even when he didn't always appreciate her. She made the right choice in breaking up with Lee, but it felt a little cliché that they got back together after five minutes screentime, which was six years off camera.
sadly kissing booths will absolutely continue to be a thing because there have been several devastating pandemics that happened in history like every century or something, and somehow we as a species keep forgetting how to react to these situations 😭

What fascinates me is that completely unrelated genres like Animated Fantasy Series get far better what a good relationship is about. Castlevania is way better at showing love than god damn ROMANTIC MOVIES.

The fact that gets to me in these movies is that these characters get into these prestigious or well know colleges/universities that are difficult to get into when we have seen them not do the work to get into them. The only character that I can get getting into one is like Gabriella from HSM.
When Noah got into Harvard in the first movie I was making sure I heard right. Cause the amount of school violence that is literally apart of his character should be enough to not even really look at his application.
TBH I always considered that perhaps the reason they were able to get into these schools is because their parents are rich. For them to get into Berkley was perhaps a result of legacy admissions because Noah and Lee's mom, Molly Ringwald went there with Elle's mom.
Plus in this they added the additional lack of realism by sort combining the idea that of being a professional gamer and being a game designer/developer/programmer. Super different things, especially for schooling for design/develepment/programming, they aren't usually something you want to just decide on out of the blue. There's a lot of actual work that goes into making games, stuff you don't really get to experience just by playing them. It's like expecting to go to med school and expecting it to just be writitng down symptoms and handing out medications. But I guess they're really not going for realism, so.
I'd also like to add that Elle Woods from Legally Blonde also did the work to get into Harvard, so I think even tho its a bit of a stretch, she could've definitely got in since it showed her putting in the time and effort to get into that school
Also also, Elle Woods got into Harvard Law, and she's already a straight 4.0 student in a fictionalized version of UCLA. She is a great student in a great school to begin with, whereas Elle in KB is... mediocre at best?

Marco pulled a Jacob, where in the previous movie he actually seemed like the better choice and is nice and king and caring, but in the next movie he turns full nice guy that keeps fucking chasing the girl after being pushed away several times.
My aunt made me watch the movie just an hour ago and while watching that I was like “Yay! They shat on the only one other decent character from the second movie! I wanna die 😃👍!”
For me the issue I had with marco and Jacob was that they obsessed about being perfect guy for Ella and bella. Not once did they realise that both girls were using them to make their slightly toxic boyfriends jealous so neither girl was perfect for them. I found it weird that 4 attractive men with a bit of personality are obsessing about wet blankets like ella and Bella.

This is all while never really expressing that he was into her in a serious manner. He also was a bit too forward while she was intoxicated, I remember him touching her (picking up, grabbing etc.) in a manner that isn't appropriate for a "best friend's brother" but that's fuzzy.

This was like the 4th season of 13 Reasons...waaay too much crammed in, except things here were resolved. I still lost brain cells watching.
At least its somewhat believable for the Legally Blonde Elle to get into Harvard. She actually studied for the LSATs, had a 4.0 GPA, had plenty of extracurriculars. I mean, sure, there were some relatively unrealistic aspects of it as well but it wasn't entirely out of nowhere for her. The KB Elle though.... yeah HOW?!
On another note, may I also mention that the Legally Blonde Elle was also a very likeable protagonist who could be looked up to. This Elle, not so much.

It would have been nice if Elle had ditched Berkeley and Harvard to go to a trade school. Netflix is single-handedly pressuring youth into going to get fancy and expensive university educations. Would have at least been a nice change to see another pathway to success offered.

I also thought Elle was going to take a different path, I really thought she was going to go to a community college or something while she figured out what she wanted to study, but then the movie made it so that she went from having zero idea of what she wanted to suddenly deciding she liked video games enough to design them as a career. I agree with you that this movie would have been the perfect opportunity for Netflix to show "non-traditional" paths to success.
I agree. As someone who transferred into UCB, it would have been both a good representation and more realistic. Also, I think one of the big insults was that after turning down to prestigious schools, she somehow was able to get into another one without doing any work or internship.

the tagline of this read "end of an era" and i used to think twilight was giving itself way more importance with those end credits of breaking dawn part 2 . The director needs to realise this aint Lord of the rings or culmination of some epic saga its a teen rom com trilogy.

Okay. I couldn’t figure out what it was, but even though teen dramas do sensationalize the American teenage experience it still resembles American high schools depending on the locations (small town, LA suburbs, NYC all have different experiences). But for some reason, this always felt so off to me about this series. It didn’t feel like a high school in California (or the US) at all, and finding out the author is Welsh makes so much sense. Lol why not just set it in the UK? That also explains why in the last movie they had thanksgiving dinner at like 1 pm and half-assed the spill all the drama during thanksgiving trope

Even if it was set in Wales, there's so way Netflix would've set it there. Most of you americans seem to misunderstand how hard it is for things set in other countries to become mainstream and popular.

You could just say "them" instead of writing out him/her- it can be used singularly and is applicable to both genders. It also feels less clunky to me to say in a sentence.

The only reason I watched the movie was because some of it was shot down the road from me and I played a game guessing where in South Africa (Cape Town/ Durban) the different scenes were shot location wise.
When you were describing the main conflict for the movie, I literally thought "Isn't this the plot for 'To all The Boys 3'?"

The only shred of credit I will give this movie is that the couples all chose to hit pause on their relationships for the sake of figuring themselves out before continuing. Something you don’t often see in teen romcoms. So like, ten points for that. Minus fifty for everything else.
I got into several prestigious schools. For most of them, I got the admission letter, a call, and a follow up letter. That's it.
I am just here being amazed that we went from "the main love interest is so abusive and a controlling asshole" to "no one is good enough for the main love interest". Like, maybe just the fact that they have been away for so long is the only thing keeping him in check and he will get back to his asshole ways as soon they lived together... or they completely forgot the characterization they gave him on the first movie. I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I wish these sorts of movies targeted at teens didn't constantly set such unrealistic bars with things like getting into ridiculously good colleges and just deciding on a whim to get into a career like video game design/development just because you enjoy playing video games. While I know they're not really going for realism, they can't even bother to get their concepts straight. "Going pro" as a professional gamer is an ENTIRELY different thing than getting into a career as a game designer/developer, and just deciding to do the latter on a whim based on enjoying playing video games is the equivalent of deciding to be a doctor because you think talking to patients about symptoms and handing out medication seems like it would be fun. Feels like setting up a bunch of kids for disappointment at the very least, failure at worst.

Noah asking her to move in...her first year was a little ick to me. I totally agree that she should have the dorm experience and Noah should live with his friends & Elle visit. That's what happened my senior year. My friends and I lived together and their boyfriends visited. It was better that way. We all had fun and maintained boundaries
