The full grown man shouting “oh no, she’s got shark strength!” As a little girl kicks his ass has a new cuter context when it’s revealed at the end (spoiler) that the adults all knew all along and were wanting to train the kids. So now it gives off the energy of a dad playing super heroes with his daughter and over-exaggerating his own demise to make her feel super strong.
To be honest I don’t remember ANYONE my age (2002 baby) disliking shark boy and lava girl. If the critics and older kids disliked it, I had no idea. This is a cinematic masterpiece.

The school let us watch them film and after a couple takes the actors came by and talked to us about the movie. I had a stomach bug that day and threw up in a trash can right in front of Taylor Lautner. I still remember the visual disgust and surprise on his face as I was escorted back inside to the nurse's office lmaooooo

Shark Boy and Lava Girl was actually one of his son's dreams that he wanted to bring to life (I believe Spy Kids was too, but this was so long ago I can't remember fully). And the younger shark boy (the one feeding the sharks) was actually played by his son. I think knowing that made me like the troublemaker movies more than I would have. Ok, nothing makes me happier than dudes being great dads so this made my day. Legitimately nothing is as wholesome to me as a dad that not only cares but also goes out of his way to make sure his kid knows how much they're loved.

That's how dreams work. They're confusing and don't make any senses, but you go along with it anyway and the chaos of it is the entertaining
Honestly, I always thought Sharkboy and LavaGirl was *supposed* to be ugly. Like the graphics were supposed to be reminiscent of older computer graphics, and lend surrealism to really sell Max’s bizarre dreamscape as the main setting. But I loved the movie so maybe I can’t be trusted
@@awsomedude23456 It it wouldn't matter how new or recent CGI is. The primary focus of it is to use the latest computer graphics. In the early days of CGI there was probably a lot of excitement because of how new it was. And CGI ages terribly regardless of time period because technology is constantly improving, so it really doesn't matter in the long run how "good" it is so much as the creativity behind it. Even a CGI movie made today will probably look bad 10 or substandard years from now. SBandLG might have looked good for the time because there was little competition with CGI and people didn't know any different. Or the emphasis was not on how good the technology looked but the wacky ways in which it was used.
But what if the names are technically Shark-Boy and Lava-Girl?? Lava Girl-Boy? She get's rid of the maiden's name so it's SharkBoy and LavaBoy now??? Is that the family name, The Boys?????
Tbh I love how bad Sharkboy and Lavagirl looked, bad cgi is one of my favorite things ever. That movie is still one of my favorites to this day, along with Spy Kids 3 and 4 (just 3 and 4, since I watched them effectively in reverse order and thus have the most nostalgia for those two)
It's hard to judge the quality of a children's film as an adult without considering what it has to offer to adults though. At the very least, I'll say it certainly increases a film's longevity and legacy when it can be appreciated by both children and adults.

This is one of the first movies I've ever seen on Disney Channel, and it got me hooked. Not only the inspiration of drawings OCs, but also exploring the concept of world-building. I think world-building is the reason why I liked it so much as a kid.
My favorite part is that they tried to hide that they didn't get Taylor Lautner by having Shark boy use a mask the entire movie. I don't even know why. The adults watching already know that is not him and the kids probably have no idea who Taylor or don't know the difference between the two of them.

Looking back, the plot of Shark Boy and Lava Girl makes no sense, but it's a DREAM. Max is dreaming. That's how dreams work. They're confusing and don't make any senses, but you go along with it anyway and the chaos of it is the entertaining
Honestly, I always thought Sharkboy and LavaGirl was *supposed* to be ugly. Like the graphics were supposed to be reminiscent of older computer graphics, and lend surrealism to really sell Max’s bizarre dreamscape as the main setting. But I loved the movie so maybe I can’t be trusted
Plus this was the early 2000s so idk why they decided to have an entire movie in CGI when it was still rather new

It it wouldn't matter how new or recent CGI is. The primary focus of it is to use the latest computer graphics. In the early days of CGI there was probably a lot of excitement because of how new it was. And CGI ages terribly regardless of time period because technology is constantly improving, so it really doesn't matter in the long run how "good" it is so much as the creativity behind it. Even a CGI movie made today will probably look bad 10 or substandard years from now. SBandLG might have looked good for the time because there was little competition with CGI and people didn't know any different. Or the emphasis was not on how good the technology looked but the wacky ways in which it was used.

Tbh I love how bad Sharkboy and Lavagirl looked, bad cgi is one of my favorite things ever. That movie is still one of my favorites to this day, along with Spy Kids 3 and 4 (just 3 and 4, since I watched them effectively in reverse order and thus have the most nostalgia for those two)

It very much doesn’t hold up that well (I actually had rewatched it with some friends last week), though it still holds a place in my heart.
It's hard to judge the quality of a children's film as an adult without considering what it has to offer to adults though. At the very least, I'll say it certainly increases a film's longevity and legacy when it can be appreciated by both children and adults.
one of my favorite quotes by C.S Lewis basically says that if a childrens story cannot be enjoyed by adults, it's not a good childrens story, and I think that's a fair judgement
