    Hi, is it the same set up for Zafira A? Not sure if its just my handbrake cable that needs replacing or caliper too? I freed it off earlier as the disc wouldn't rotate freely and rear discs were red hot. I banged the cable mechanism upwards to release it and tapped the carrier and caliper with a hammer. This freed it nicely. I took the car out literally round the block and when i checked them they were red hot again and binding as before. I refuse to use my handbrake at the moment because of this reason yet they've started binding again??? Thanks in advance for any advice and keep the videos coming, cheers.

    If you leave marks on the brake hose from clamping it can be an MOT failure! Also protect the hose - I use long nose grips with a bit of garden hose over each nose- so rubber on rubber - never had a problem. You'd be kicking yourself if it failed an MOT having fitted a new caliper

    My handbrake cable didn't have a clip it was plastic tabs . I used a pair of long nose pliers to squeeze together, and wd40 to loosen cable from mounting hole.

    To save the hassle of removing the brake line would it be possible to just crack the hose/fitting bolt slightly and rotate it away from the caliper bolt to allow better access, and then immediately re-tighten, to at least allow the use of a ring spanner?

    • @diykhan
      @diykhan  2 года назад +1

      Yes you can but make sure to bleed the braking system to get rid of vacuum inside the hose

    • @richardrichard5409
      @richardrichard5409 Год назад +1

      The line must be moved to the new caliper though🤣

    • @tommygunn63
      @tommygunn63 Год назад +1

      @@richardrichard5409 Granted I didn't state the context but my comment was in reference to purely gaining access to the disc/pads etc and not to change the caliper.

    Just going to change both rear calipers on an astra h tomorrow. Is it the same set up. Both existing calipers are sticking on when handbrake is pulled up and staying on when handbrake is released

      There have to be bled so that there is no vacuum in the system

    If you use molegrips on the pipe use some cardboard to help not damage the pipe. Scissor Jack and no Jackstand I do see you have a tyre underneath but you are gambling with that widow maker Scissor Jack. Using electric isolation screwdriver is bad as it has soft metal. Why are you not changing that disc and checking the handbrake?

      @user-sf7kl9uh7k 4 месяца назад

      I don't think it's a good idea to clamp brake pipes, that's how they end up collapsing inside and causing binds etc
