How do you push the calipers back to fit new pads as they are ticker and need more space? Should the piston go freely back without taking off the brake hose?
yes you need a windback tool or before you remove the caliper from the disc you can use a flat screwdriver and wedge it between the disc and pad you should be able to push back the piston
If you havent got a windback tool just put in one of the old pads onto the piston then use a 'G' clamp on the back of the caliper & the old pad & wind the clamp in, these caliper pistons don't wind in they just push in.

17mm wheel nut socket H7 Hex Allen Key for slider bolts Flat screwdriver to gap brake pads & remove retaining clip Wire Brush to clean & brake cleaner Piston rewind tool Anti seize brake paste like cooper grease for example. Can these be pushed back using a screwdriver on front and back pads?
yes just be careful not to damage discs if you’re not replacing them
