I think so, if you look here ruclips.net/video/8wxejmeAKwI/видео.html it looks like they are repeating the removal of the shock on the opposite side. I'm going to assume that you do need to lower both sides and put the whole back on stands

So if I change my rear springs will I also magically have new brake discs and pads or do you need a wand and secret words to make them appear

I have seen one You Tube video where just one shock was unbolted so I'm going to try this first.

No, in this case, the spring can be installed arbitrarily.
