In this video I will show you step by step how to adjust the linkage on an Opel or Vauxhall Zafira car.
You need to adjust the gear linkage if is hard to shift or engage into a gear.
This is an easy process to fix the issue with the gear linkage, sometime people think that the issue is the gearbox itself and not with the gear linkage.

Fantastic, just bought a Zafira that was impossible to get into first gear, this fixed it and feels like a new gear box, the battery tray is a bit tricky but worth persevering 👍

I drove mine for about 5yrs with an iffy clutch. Just swapped the clutch while I had the engine out and it’s like a different car now. Totally different to drive.
Was is it impossible to get into 1st gear when the engine is on ?

Mine needs to be adjusted because I can’t get into first and second very well will this work. If I move it slightly to the right it will go into gear fine is just hard otherwise
So for the zafira 1.8vvt. Sort of the same but not really lol. Do as he’s shows. You don’t have the same turret so can’t get it to stay in place I had my mate hold it I pushed the clips back in left one went in fine the right one broke ! Put a cable tie on it and my mate let go of the turret and No 4th! Cut the cable tie got the white bit loose again at this point the white bit moved down clipped it in and now works fine and didn’t need the cable tie. Think it’s to high if you clip it in with the turret up so lift the turret do the right side then let go and do the right side now my gears feel light and goes into every gear perfect

Great video! My gear freeze and cannot be moved until engine has warmed up like 30 minutes when winter comes. Can you give a hint what can get frozen in there? Cables?

@@WhatTube Oh, ok, I found out that water from front window gets into the tube covering wire rope connecting gear and shift box. Had to replace the cables. Thanks! Your video helped very much to replace it!
I have a Vauxhall Antara but it won’t go smoothly into 2nd gear but every other gear is fine any idea
You can try to adjust the linkage but it's different from this video
I have an Astra J 2013 5 speed manual, sometimes it doesn't go into 1st gear feels like something is blocking it. Will adjusting the linkages stop this?

Hi, yes it can fix it, but if the cables are stretched you need to replace them.
I have a problem with the Zafira life 2005
I can’t make it go into 5th gear from 4th it either goes into third or drops back to neutral, but for some reason it only goes into 5th from second gear, found that out when accidentally moving it from 2nd to 5th when I was meant to put it in 3rd after the problem so I know now the 5th gear works but not from 4th would your video resolve the problem.
It can fix but if the gear linkage is stretched then you need to replace it.
Hello mate. when I put my car in reveres (ZAFIRA B 2014) it often crunch but all forward gears works fine.. also the clutch pedal seems high compared to my focus st.. Can you do a video on how to adjust the clutch pedals please??
Hi, in this car the clutch is idraulic so you cannot adjust it (it's possible to adjust the pedal but just slightly).
The release bearing on these it is weak as well so it can be that as well.

Ive got a severe grinding noise over 2k rpm after sccidentally pulling one of them cables, is it possible ive made them go out of line? Will this fit it?
Hi, yes, you can reset them, but if the cable is stretched, then you need to replace them.
If the grinding noise is only over 2k rpm, then it can be the gearbox itself. If the noise is just when you shift, then the issue is with the cable.
When your remove the battery, do you have to re install the radio code or not?
Hi, no you don't need the code for the radio.
I have a crunch in reverse, do you think this adjustment will help get rid of it? Or maybe you have an idea what the problem may be? All the other gear shifts work fine
Hi, it may fix the issue, the best thing to do is trying.
Did it solve your problem? Mine has a crunch in 3rd. The other gears are fine. I'll try this method in the video, I hope it will help.
Hello mate I have a insignia I think I have the same problem as this but not honestly sure. I can't get into reverse 1st, 2nd, and 6th gear. I can at times with no problem but it's become alot worse in short time frame. If I push the clutch all the way in and try to put it in gear you'll hear noise while clutch is still pressed in. Clutch doesn't seem to be the problem or the fly wheel(I don't think). Could you guess the problem bud?
Hi, if you hear noise when the clutch is down it means that the clutch is not actually fully separated, it can be the master or slave cylinder, first try to bleed the clutch system.
It can be issue with the linkage like in the video as well, or some damage inside the gearbox.

It's similar but not the same, the hole is in a different place on the turret for the F17, there is a hole which you can see on part of the linkage away from the main turret (might have to use a mirror to see it) that using a 4.5mm drill bit you lock against the main turret which has a corresponding hole.

Hi, the best thing is to try it and see if you solved the issue.
with my zafira 1.7 2010 its all good but in 3rd when pressing the acellerator the gearstick moved a bit on its own like slightly moving down towards neutral when pressing gas.
releasing the gas pedal then it returns to the 3rd gear position. it does is very slightly in 4th but not as much as 3rd.
what could be the cause of this do you think?
for my old vivaro any movement with the gearstick like this meant that the clutch/gearbox was on its way out.. i hope its not the case for this
Hi, it can be the cable itself, gearbox or the engine mount as well (normally the front and rear one).

Try to change the gears directly from the selector on top of the gearbox, if they go into gear easily, then it can be the linkage stretched so you need to change that.
But try this method, maybe it will fix your problem.

Yes it can help, but it can be a gearbox issue as well.
Hi I have a 2015 astra j 1.6 it wont go in any gear first thing in the morning and all I hear is grinding when I try to force it in to gear but once I worm the car up for 10-15 mins all gears work fine all day without a problem what you do think the problem is?

Hello mate, why is my vectra c very hard to engage the gears especially first, second and also reverse when engine is hot, i mean temperature at the middle mark 90. When cold all is good, below the middle mark. DMF is new, clutch and release bearing. Changed by previous owner.

Do you have the M32 or F40 gearbox?
M32 have lots of issues (overheat easily, bad bearings, release bearing, oil level).
F40 it's a good gearbox overall.
Try to bleed the clutch and brakes, and change the oil in the gearbox.

Hi I would like to ask if my chevrolet zafira has a gearbox or transmission problem? Everytime I drive as if it was stuck in 3rd gear and the rpm was really hight with a loud noise, but upon activating the winter mode, it drives smoothly. What would be the problem??? Thank you!

Hi. Would this work on a 60 plate,1.8 5 speed zafira? When cold doesn't want to select gear until after cars been running 10 minutes or so then 1st is tight and reverse grinds a lot

In your car there is a different gearbox.
It's the clutch ok?
Try to press the clutch pedal and wait 2 seconds before inserting the reverse, and try to replace the oil as well.

Fitted a new clutch and gear selector cable on my astra h GTC 2 liter Turbo and struggle to get 1st and 3rd gear but the others goes smoothly. Can this method also be done on that car or is it not possible?
Hi, yes it's same if you have the m32 gearbox, if the gearbox is different then it will be very similar anyway.

Hi mate I’ve replaced a clutch on an Astra sri 08 and after two months the gear wouldn’t go into place unless forcefully pushed and it made a loud screeching noise, I tried again 6 months later and now it’s going in to gear but sometimes with a strain and I have to be delicate with the reverse, makes a large clinking sound. Any help on this would be great been proper stressing about this

Check the clutch pedal if it travels ok, try to bleed the clutch fluid in case there's air inside, the gear linkage can be stretched so it need replacing, the gearbox itself can be damaged as these are very prone to failure.

For the linkage it should be around £100, for a reconditioned gearbox it's at least £400.
Synchromesh in box? New one would be starting at £300 recon even higher if it’s m32

Yes this process can help.
If not it can be the linkage itself, the selector, the bearings worn in the gearbox, or you just need an oil change.

I just dropped my child off to school with my car and came home, I started the car to go to work and put the car into 1st gear, but the car is reversing.
The car never goes into 2nd gear.
3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears work perfectly and the car can take off with high gears.

I have been searching for this clip but no joy yet...

It's not the same but is very similar.

Hi, yes the clip or the spring are broken so you need to replace them. Remove the gear knob cover and you can check it from there.

Is not that difficult, but to do so you have to remove the gearbox.

Probably you done something wrong.
Are the 3rd and the 6th gear working?
Because if you done something wrong you should have the 3rd and 4th not working or the 5th and 6th not working. It's very strange that in your case is the 4th and the 5th.
@@WhatTube it was my fault but I managed to fix it. Mine doesn't have anything to lock the gearstick in neutral so I had to hold it in place and then push the tabs back in.

Hi, you can use any type of grease, there isn't a specific one.
@@WhatTube After having seen the video I pu some bearing grease on the linkage unger the gearstick and on the linkage under the hood. My Zafira B petrol unit, lets me get with ease to grease linkage without battery disassembly. The olny thing I'am going to do next week is to take out the battery and supply with grease that thing You puta dril bit. So far a bit of a difference. I'll let You know about further improvements. thx a lot

All i see, is you removed the linkage cables from the shifter, locked the shifter and gearbox turret to Reverse location, and clicked the cables back on..
Yes, because over time the cable do stretch and the default position will be different, by doing this method we are fixing back to the default position, so all the gears will go in and out smoothly.
