The 7- and 8-mm Mauser is just a great round. A do everything rifles and Caliber. Plus, what is not to like about a Mauser.

I am in love with 8mm Mauser right now. I have been making videos reloading every projectile that I could find. I have tried everything from 124gr to 198gr and have some 240gr cast. 98 action Mauser is among the strongest if not the strongest action ever action ever and will handle anything you want to reload for it.

Same man. My first 8mm rifles was a turkish mauser. I then picked up a k98 and as of this morning I picked up a hakim rifle, semiauto 8mm rifle.

      What does 98 action mean?

@@AwesomesMan1898, year the action was introduced. Mauser introduced his first bolt action in 1893, then made updates to strengthen and improve upon that action. The models are designated by their year of introduction; 93, 96, 98.

When you look at the muzzle of a K98, or other 8mm Mauser rifles, you can readily notice that the borehole is bigger! You are absolutely right, it is an improvement over the .30 caliber.

Damn. The techno strummer elves are back. That sound makes me want to jump down an elevator shaft. Maybe switch over to old Andreas Vollenweider music or something. Honestly, my brain starts blocking out your conversation with that background music. I think you said something about bog turtles and strippers in there. I think I'll look for one of those 9mm Weatherby Mousers though.

I like 8mm surplus rifles with a simple sporter stock to where they are almost a Diana pellet rifle in size and weight. I want a grizzly defense rifle with iron sights. I question whether an 8mm is powerful enough though, and whether I could get the second shot in a bear charge with the mauser bolt action...

    W. D. M. Bell and Jim Corbett used the 7x57mm Mauser for dangerous game. The 8x57mm Mauser is just harder hitter. But it is still far from being a dangerous game cartridge. And not really the diameter but rather the bullet weight makes it harder hitter than say the .30-06. Although the .30-06 is generally a flatter shooter for longer distance. In Europe 8mm Mauser is a popular big game cartridge like red deer, wild boar, etc especially in forested areas. But .30-06 is also extremely popular (on the continental Europe, I have no idea about the UK, sorry).

I have both the 7 & 8mm in M98 Mausers (a M1908 Brazilian & a CZ VZ22, respectively). Almost whatever needs doing either of these 2 can do it. Would like to find a G.I. rebarrel to .30-06 (Norway, Columbia & Brazil did this, I believe).

Go on German Hunting Guns page ,and read about development there,
Also about the Kaizers guns , he had a 6x57 also . Say 6mm Rem decades prior.
It was part of a huge experimental era from 10,75 mm down to 5 mm to see how it behaved on the *57 case.
9,3*57 one to look for also if you come across one
Or a 9*57 . The last one is especially good in a combi or double rifle with Rimmed case R .

Smokeless powder was developed in 1884. The first rifle for it, the Labelle, came out in 1886.

Na, nods over 8mm. If you don’t have Gen3, you are at a disadvantage and you need to prepare yourself.

Don't waste your money on old surplus Turkish ammo with "cut" bandoleers. Junk. High FTF rate.

I shot a 3 round sub 1" group at 100 yards with mine. Did you thoroughly scrub your firing pin channel with solvent and a bronze brush? Dried up cosmoline, coupled with the hard Turk primers, can make for misfires. A very common problem. If that doesn't work, replace the firing pin spring-John in Texas
