    So this is my beginners guide to Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown! Despite being over half an hour... this is truly the basics. VF5 is such a super in depth game I absolutely can't cover everything all in one video. That said for many of you that are newer to the game, this is what you need and I sincerely hope it helps you out!

  • @PazuChill
    @PazuChill 3 года назад +39

    This is a really good beginner tutorial. I like the amount of generalization you put in there, like low attacks being generally the slowest, grabs being generally the fastest, counter throws being knowledge based, combo length being about 6-7 hits, etc. That way I can get a rough idea of the gameplay without details getting in the way. I've seen other guides that put too much emphasis on frame data or other more specific stuff too early in what's supposed to be a beginner's guide. This is excellent in comparison.

    • @rooflemonger

    So helpful. The open/closed stance segment really just changed my world. Like, so many times I'm raging because I can't understand how things are whiffing despite thinking I'm already factoring elements such as weightclass. This explains those odd moments where i know everything is perfect but I still drop the combo.

    • @biquiba
      @biquiba 3 года назад +4

      Yo, VF fan here. @rooflemonger actually tought it wrongly. Open/closed stance doesn't necessarily depends if your char's chest is turned towards or away the screen. It's actually relative to both characters' stances. If you and your opponent are facing the same way you both are on open stance, if not, you both are on closed stance.

    • @biquiba
      @biquiba 3 года назад +1

      You can also check out the stance checking when characters are being launched...but VFDC was subject to a massive overhaul years back. There's everything masterfully explained: virtuafighter.com/wiki/positions/

    Great guide!
    I'm no expert but I think I should comment on the stance portion. The description of open and closed stance is not quite right. It doesn't matter whether your chest or back is towards the screen. Instead, it's dependent on how the two characters are aligned. To take from VFDC's Wiki:
    -"Closed Stance refers to the case where each player has the same foot forward." (So both characters have their right foot forward, or both have left foot forward. When you boot up training mode or begin a match, you begin in closed stance).
    -"Open Stance refers to the case where each player has an opposing foot forward." (So P1 has right foot forward while P2 has left foot forward or vise versa).
    If this wording is tough to envision, I encourage players to check out VFDC's Wiki and look at the /positions/ section.

    • @abdelali9279
      @abdelali9279 3 года назад

      I had to check that like three times in the video to understand what he was saying but I checked after reading your comment and it seems the foot positioning makes sense too, guess I have to test it myself, but any case I really love this new VF 5 is about creating an actual online community becuase I remember the OG VF 5 on PS3 came with no online component which was weird and sadly that was the problem with the VF series like, ir really needed the benefit of a larger community.

    • @unfuckinglovable
      @unfuckinglovable 3 года назад +4

      Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa lots of people mention this game if you bring up 3D fighters as an alternative to: Tekken is just more popular bc the long juggles and flashy characters/presentation.
      DOA is much more underrated considering it has the best graphics+physics, a counter system, hit-grabs, wall combos, stage interactable damage, and multiple floors. Immature cucks overlook it bc they think "breast physics" means the game is shallow. Mr.assaultWizard also gave it a bad look with the whole "core values" thing. Bit ironic coming from the guy kicked outta EVO.
      Also, KOF is dead outside of Latin America and Asia and SNK has been around for a long time.

    Correction on open and close stances.
    Closed stance means chests face opposite directions or the same foot of each opponent is forward (right foot, right foot).
    Open stance is when the chests face the same direction or the opposite foot is forward (right foot, left foot).

    You would think that Final Showdown would be the final version of Virtua Fighter 5. And you would think Sega would get to work on a Virtua Fighter 6 by now.

    I have question about the "During hit" follow up moves:
    in training mode I simply do the follow up when I see the move connect, but I can never do it online because of the delay, do I just have to memorize the timing for the move instead of relying on visuals?

    • @rooflemonger
      @rooflemonger  3 года назад +1

      the timing never changes. even if you are experiencing delay you still hit the button at the same time and it will hit. Go for muscle memory not visual confirmation. For hit throws there is zero penalty for going for the throw even on block/whiff whatever,, just nothing happens

      its just up or down, let the move begin to animate, then the 3 buttons. if you hit the 3 buttons right away then nothing will happen, the dodge needs to be partially done with.
