I have always found the ChromeOS to be a not very good compromise. I think much better is to buy like an older Thinkpad or such and load linux on it and maybe upgrade it with more ram ssd or cpu if you can.
I probably would too if it had more internal storage XD. I couldnt even install apps to the SD card with chromeOS as youre able to do on most phones. but yeah the super simple construction makes for some neat ideas. I was thinking of putting the tiny motherboard into a keyboard housing and making an invisible AIO.
yOu CoUlD jUsT iNsTaLl LiNuX oN iT ...actually that might be valid, but not for 99% of people. I actually ended up with a Pixel book Go with a Core m3 and have been trying to use it just to get an idea of what I am selling to customers when selling Chromebooks. Even with that, it has some harsh limitations compared to what I'm used to; even going up-spec a lot of what you say about this bargain still applies.
Whats so great about this thing is that theyre like the disposable cameras of laptops. If it goes missing, breaks, gets stolen or whatever, i wouldnt miss it tbh. everything on it is in the cloud anyways, and $30 is pretty okay for an entire replacement computer. most expensive laptops cost hundreds to repair

Dirt effing cheap™️
Wild you can get a laptop in decent condition for $32. I am sure the modding community gets a ton of use out of these things

What do you know, the same ChromeBooks I was forced to use at school can be bought for less than an entry level iPad.
Yep, we had to use similar models during the pandemic. I'm not kidding about them barely being able to join a video chat
