The Truth About Fast Lenses: How They Can (and Can't) Improve Your Photography
Просмотров 302Год назад
In the photography world, I’ve noticed a trend. People want fast lenses. It’s seen as a rite of passage for some, marking some transition into “real photography.” I can see why this is the case too. Almost every professional wedding or senior picture shoot features insane amounts of Bokeh, where the subjects pop off the frame. Photos tend to look more professional if only one thing is in focus....

The Canon 1D Mark III: Still Great in 2021!
I purchased one in 2007. It was $1500 and a bargain. I would say this is one of the first true powerbook / desktop replacements; and it came in a 12 inch footprint. It is rare combo. Powerful Core2Duo, dual ram slots and ability to fit thick 2.5 inch hard drive (20GB SSD was a factory option LOL), along with descrete GpU. IT was jamm packed: webcam and many USB ports, and yes a dvd player as well. This was my main machine, and a joy to travel with. Battery life was good too. It was easy to keep this machine for a long time with a clear upgrade path (windows 7, 4 gb ram). GPU was good enough for counterstrike at 1080p and some casual games.
i loved mine... but sold it for an RP 😢
A friend of mine has an RP. it would certainly be a more versatile camera in general, but i cannot get over how cool the 1D X is

J'adore cette machine mais pour $3,000 on aurait pu éviter le tout plastique.
I remember discovering this some years ago. I still want one if only for its beauty.
@@dimitrilensflareabrams2893 i had to have one when i found out through a fellow tech friend. I have two now actually! I managed to find a top spec model for a decent price and snatched it. But man id kill for the white version…..
I have a problem I got it second hand and I can only see the fotos already taken I have no idea how to make it go into Camara mode 😭
The real issue is that i have yet to see raw ML footage that does not have extremely weird peaky/clipped green and red tones. This is likely down to the raw processing application. Camera raw/lightroom is uniquely cloose to original camera image processing. This is important for raw to be useful. When you have an app that has no manufacturer input/colaboration you end up with extremely weird looking image quality. Please before jumping into magic lantern make sure you dont prefer the look of say a gh5s with prores. These cameras will work flawlessly for video have sync stabe auto focus and avtually probably 2nd best color science after canon.
@@MrStevegibb i shoot on a gh6 prores these days. This video was made quite a whilenago

I bought one for $5 against your recommendation only because when this came out, I didn't realize there were digital cameras that were this good. Yeah I know what you're thinking but there were these really cheap like 1 megapixel cameras you could get back then and that's all I'd seen. I thought digital cameras were just so garbage that I didn't even pay them any attention from 2003 to sometime in 2005. I'm gonna try this one out, then try to sell it off to one of those CCD-sensor-obsessed hipsters for a small profit. Nice overview!

Always glad to hear from fans of the channel.
Always about the camera. What happen to the audio quality, ear phone speaker phone and other things. These videos are all about cameras. They complain. Well get a real camera if that's what you want. God what's next..
I found this video bc I was googling to find projector phones bc I thought all the tech out there that we have there has to be smartphones that can project or maybe they’ll incorporate it in an upcoming phone. If they could please get on this again that would be so amazing, I imagine if they did better marketing about a new phone with this ability they’d see there’s a bigger market for it than they realize. Teachers and schools for one thing so much easier for so many different uses. I need an iPhone with a projector like yesterday.
There is a brand called 8849 that produces a series of projector phones. The projection effect is very clear and the battery capacity is huge at 23800mAh, which is suitable for everyone, especially special professions and outdoor enthusiasts.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video for the 1DX. There's nothing like it I can find on RUclips. I am glad you talked about the video capability seeing as it is a photo camera first. Every other video keeps saying the video specs suck but forgetting this isn't a new camera. "The one that's best for you is the one that inspires you to use it"... Best damn quote ever! Peace 😁
@@actioncollectibles5826 thank you! And yes, the video isn't going to rival a Sony a7c, that's not the point. But the video is certainly nicer quality than most DSLRs were offering at the time and it's really clean because of the full frame sensor. I love shooting video on this thing
@@EVRLYNMedia Yes its a very clean and beautiful image compared to other dslr’s at the time. Saw the short film you made with it and loved it. If you ever get your hands on a c100 mark ii it would be interesting to see what your thoughts are. It has the cleanest 1080p image till this very day and it’s as old as the 1DX. It’s just beautiful. Thats just my opinion. Truly your video on the 1DX has inspired me. 😄🍻

Possibly the best camera ever made.
I have two of these. Pray your shutter doesn't break, as one of mine has at 400 000 shots. I've been unable to find anyone who can offer repairs for this model and Canon's "apology" offer of 10% off a MKIII is pointless when the camera costs £7000! If anyone can direct me to a UK repair centre still able to offer repairs, please do.
@@Me-gy7ykyeah and there's no way I'm attempting to fix a shutter failure by myself. These cameras are incomprehensibly complex inside. Pretty amazing canon managed to make a shutter with a 400k rating at all. Mines at 370k or so
I come from old school chemical photography and i always felt something was lacking somehow in digital photography, on all the brands and all the models, UNTIL i bought a 1DX. Finally was "home" again. It's a perfekt mix of old school tactile ergonomics and an ability to shoot anything anywhere with great digital quality. Yes mirrorless is all the hype nowadays (and technical wonders) but I personally feel it's like we are going backwards again.. I will stay on 1DX as long as they can be bought on the second hand market 😁
ive seen them with well over one million clicks on the shutter before. mines at 370k. they're like the 90s honda of digital cameras. insanely reliable and built to last.

Cool vid. Loving the 8bit music too 👍🏾
Loved this! We use a 1DX Mk2 at my work, and its now considered the old dog after we just recently purchased an R5c Really cool to see this older equipment romanticized a bit! We still use the 1DX though! It has its place :D
Gosh id love an r5c. Or any similar full frame cinema/video focused camera. This video was mostly filmed on my lumix gh6. Razor sharp and good performance from a MFT sensor but not the same as a big one

GxAce knockoff. Keep up the good work! 🤑👏
The retro theme is nothing new and used heavily, you can lean into the retro vibe while creating your own style. Keep experimenting and trying new things, u have alot of potential!
Hi. Ive created quite a kerfuffle with this video huh… So first: I’m going to change the thumbnail to my original style as soon as I get home. I realize now that its a total clickbait for people wanting to watch GXace but got this knockoff instead. Thats not right. (Though ill admit gxaces thumbnail style is dead easy to replicate.) But also though I took a lot of inspiration from GxAce, i was mainly going for the mood rather than trying to expressly “copy” what he does. I dont recall him ever recording talking sections with a red wash color grade, featuring flatscreen tvs or even reviewing a canon dslr. But i think we both know its. Little too on the nose to be explained by pure “inspiration.” This is the best video ive made and at least part of that is because of how awesome GxAces content is. The second i first saw it i wanted to get even half of his production value in one of my videos. Its one of the reasons i actually bothered uploading after 7 months of radio silence. Trust me, i want to develop an original style, but its just… really difficult i guess. I tried to do it in 2021 and came up with a purple barf color grade that i tried to love but ended up hating. So yeah… And if youre watching this gxace, i love your content. Its some of the best ive ever seen and i dont mean to steal from you. It was just a really good reason to get off my butt and actually record something. And im sorry if i went too far
dude, dont worry about it. Mimicry is literally how every human being learns. People that have a signature style either are extremely creative, lucky, or have been working at it for a very long time. Keep doing what youre doing, this style is awesome and yeah GxAce might have coined it first in popularity but its not his alone. And he should be flattered that we all love it. Youre awesome, keep it up, I wish I had the capability to mimic something enough to make it cool like this but my brain just doesnt process like that, im more gear/tool/mechanically inclined and its a massive bummer.
My intention wasn’t to cause hate i just wanted to give some insight. The process and struggle to grow as a youtuber is so tedious and their are so many great creators that are successful that it does make sense to emulate what works. I appreciate you being honest and open though, now im very interested to see how you develop your style. Im excited to see what you create in the future 🙏🏾
No apologies on RUclips. Sick video, don't cave to the crybabies. I wouldn't have thought of GxAce if it wasn't for the haters. Great content, keep it up & never back down.
@@pinkgiraffe808 this video has been very polarizing nonetheless, though I seriously appreciate the support. I'm humble though and not above criticism. but the fact that most people are supportive should tell me that people generally like it and that makes me really happy to see
Do not listen to any of the hate. I know quite a few creators that are inspired off of gxace and people need to understand that most art forms are derivative. Ace bases his work off of bladerunner which also had few inspirations from other work and today there are works that are inspired from bladerunner. Everyone starts somewhere GxAce was literally like every other youtuber with the "Whats up guys! (insert name here) today we are reviewing (camera)!" It took gxace a few years to become what he is today as with any other photographer thats unique. Im here with you to see you grow
A halfway hacker man, you know what fit you? Power Glove
Why not be original, im not tryna be rude but if i wanted to watch Gxace i would just go to his page. Create your own style bro

Great job on the video! I often found the best way to learn was to copy what I liked. I'm sure you will develop your own style as time goes on too. Keep up the good work!
long before this i copied a youtuber called 32megabytes... i tried to make my own style in 2021 but didnt really like what i came up with. gxace inspires me even more than the 1dx itself does. like imagining getting the kind of shots he does caused me to make what id say is my best video ever
Gotta develop your own aesthetic my friend, we already have GX Ace
Look at some of my videos from 2021 if you want that. Im just trying to make something good i guess and this is the best video ive ever made even if it hinges off of someone elses style
It is definitely interesting how polarized people are about this video. Dont worry, im not gonna become a complete gxace copycat like i used to be a 32megabytes copycat. Everything is practice
@@EVRLYNMedia I appreciate your honesty. Its ok to immulate a style, but this was a little too blatant, from the insert shots of CRTs and red lit tech to the way you showed your photos over a black background and synth music. Try to find your own voice, don't rely on someone else's, that's why you've received some deserved criticism. Not even trying to hate, cus some of your pictures were good, just change your format up, invent a distinct voice for yourself.
