Maybe watched 7 people demo this new pedal over the last 24 hrs. You definitely get the award for "Best". In all honesty, I really DO think there should be viewer nominations and awards for RUclips. Too often, I tune in to your channel just because I so enjoy your playing. Who'da thunk it?
Thanks Brett. When I hear a pedal like this I wonder what music may have been like in the 60s if Gilmour, Harrison, Page and others had access to something like this. How good is the evolution of music...!!
There are so many interesting delays and reverbs coming out these days. Its interesting how the pedal manufacturers are still going back to the 80's and 90's however, to pull from all the incredible tones from those era's.
Absolutely. There must be several reasons for that. One is that what used to take a very expensive rack unit to perform can now be done by a “humble” pedal.
That’s a really cool sound and you know, I have a Yamaha FX550! First multi effects processor I bought - I’ve had it since 1993! Crazy that’s sounds are now being modelled from that unit! Maybe I should plug it in again. I loved the sounds btw. The overdriven fx40 tones could have been on Blade Runner 😊🤟🏽🙏🏽 have an awesome day Brett.
Yep I have the FX500 and preset 40 is Soft Focus. Hence FX40 on the pedal. Got a new power supply and after 20 years of not using it all the sounds and my own presets were still there. Bonus.
Man, I really appreciate your reviews/videos. You're the only one that I've watched that actually took the time to play it with JUST the reverb (no chorus/octave). Was wondering if this could serve as an all purpose, basic reverb, as well as the traditional Soft Focus sound, and it clearly does! Sounds like an old school Yamaha plate without the other FX. Thanks so much for being so thorough!
The pedal sounds great (but, what I wanna know is) How much More-Gear can Brett get . . . into that room? It's like a magical, musical cockpit of sound. They got the right guy to Demo this pedal. Always very thorough my friend.
This Pedal is absolutely fantastic!, what a heavenly sound by God!, that shimmer is absolutely the best I have heard, I will buy it yes or yes, thanks for the review!
Great sound of course...tho I just can't stand pedals where the power jack is NOT at the top side of the pedal, for whatever reason it's gotta be low down on the side of the pedal 😆..all pedals in the future please have power jacks on the top side! 👍
If I had to guess, it's to isolate an internal dc converter from the audio. This is probably an fv-1 at heart, with some buffer and wet dry circuitry. The fv-1 requires 3.3vdc so a buck converter must be used.
It's funny, I was thinking just the opposite. I think most people don't have stereo rigs and a lot of pedals that are amazing in stereo are very underwhelming in mono. This pedal sounds very nice in mono, and like Brett demonstrated you can make it stereo anyway with a stereo delay, which I admit, does sound pretty damn cool.
Absolutely. The original is in stereo for a reason. Symphonic chorus cannot exist in its original form in mono, just can't. Doesn't matter if "most guys don't have stereo rigs", its not like its that hard to run something stereo in 2023.
@@PedalPoopers Maybe you’re thinking of something else… the fx like all its spx predecessors is all stereo. Nothing is being “forced”. And especially shoegaze benefits from having stereo capability to create a “wall of sound’.
“Tell me how you get the sound of Preset 40 on the Yamaha FX500 without actually using a FX500” Brett: The Catalinbread Soft Focus Ah, Catalinbread really outdid themselves with the Soft Focus; for those folks seeking to achieve the sounds of Souvlaki, this pedal is worth delving into.
Good on you for using the JC amp
Simulation, Neil from slowdive uses two Jc-120s to this very day.

Shoegaze heaven!
I want this pedal so bad, I could noodle with that thing for days on end.
Good sir, you just blew my mind! I didn't know Eno produced Souvlaki! Thanks for the fun bit of trivia!
Eno was asked to produce Souvlaki, but he declined, so Slowdive produced it themselves. However, Eno did play on 2 songs.

Agreed; those pedal companies understood the assignment
Those Seymour Duncan Psyclones sound great, fantastic playing too, you really played to the pedals strengths.
I have this pedal and used it playing the song TROUBLE by Coldplay. It really sounds beautiful! Nice video man!

Finally back to using appropriate artwork!
For a 'hot' Tron pickup, they don't do a bad job when clean.
Great sounding pedal for layering etc.
Cheers mate!
WOW such an amazing Sound. Very Cool Demo/Review. Thankyou
Sounds absolutely gorgeous 😍

Never realized we'd had shimmer reverb back in the '80s, cool.

I can get similar sounds with my H9 but this sounds so good... it’s tempting
Wow! You playing sounds awesome! That's much easier than dusting off and patching in my old rack units. Lol!
Eno didn’t produce souvlaki FYI. He recorded a couple tracks but was not involved in production in any capacity.

Loomer did this first... How do you think the soft focus compares?
It's too bad they didn't see fit to make it a stereo pedal.

Nah, I'm glad it's mono. Too many great pedals are being forced in stereo. Not everything is better in Stereo, the original proved that well enough

How bout snagging two and going stereo. Pan hard L and R? Anyone?…

the green/black design is a lot nicer than the one with the ape people on it
Is there a trails on/off switch?
🍦🧘♂️>🤘👍🏿
Great pedal, sadly not available in my country😂. It sucks to be a third world country shoegazers…
bro you need more sleep
The actual effect was 2 different timed delays going into a reverb on the Yamaha FX-500, and the pedal is missing the delays
