Just came here from 60 Cycle Hum, and Ryan's epic demo. What an outstanding sounding pedal. Catalinbread has captured some real magic in the Soft Focus pedal. Enjoyed the playing and tones John. 👍
@@jamesmarcin4787 I have a Katzenkonig and the RAH pedal - very underrated - you can squash the shit out of your signal chain and the RAH will put all the breath back into it. Katzenkonig is really versatile too, but its definitely not an always on type affair.
I loved the old SPX90's!! Most of these videos don't explore the sounds enough, unfortunately. Guitarist's usually want the best tank spring reverb imitation, which misses the point. Is the Catalinbread a stereo pedal?? WHY is it mono?? Ugg
I didn’t expect John to play any Slowdive rifts that would have been odd. Also didn’t seem like he cared to much about what the soft focus is known for extreme verb he almost turned it off most of the demo lol great tone though!
I'm not trolling. I mean for this to be constructive. The way you present this pedal is not helpful. It's mounted so far in the background you can't see the knobs. And when you go to adjust, your hand covers up the entire unit. A close up and a split screen would be much more user friendly. Thank you, sir.
Great sound of course...tho I just can't stand pedals where the power jack is NOT at the top side of the pedal, for whatever reason it's gotta be low down on the side of the pedal 😆..all pedals in the future please have power jacks on the top side! 👍
Interesting! I find the tonal quality of a reverb tank to be so specific its pretty unusable for a lot of things. When I think "big" reverbs, I think plate and hall type sounds... Both things a spring tank can not do.

Always a treat to listen to John's demos. Fantastic player 👍
I am in love with that tone. Relay good playing, perfect for showing the pealed.
Gorgeous intro! Perfect demo for the effect, too.
Beautiful playing
I am just here for John. I could care less what he's playing through. But, this sounds epic. Bonus for the video
Nice playing John!
The Yamaha FX500 provided many an auditory hour of therapeutic bliss for early 90’s Slowdive fans.
Bohlinger at his best as always. Great demo.
Wicked game Wicked playing ♥️
shoulda never let Howard Gee get away. his new kittycasterfx pedals are sick, the new Catalinbread just similar to what every other company is doing.
Yes, Howard is the man
Love my RAH pedal.

Nice reverb! Sounds great! Tone is superb! But then of course there’s Johns playing which would flatter almost any pedal!
Boom! that slide exploded with that little bugger. NICE
Awesome
Sounds great 👍🏻
This pedal sounds great, but I miss the dungeonesque vibe of earlier videos with the austere lighting. Thanks as always for the content.
Great review, guess I better subscribe.
That is some Hella Playin', John. Nice.
So the spx90 reverse reverb is just around the corner?
Would be nice to get a dedicated Symphonic box too (without verb)

Mike stern needs one for sure.

Great stuff as usual, John. Three words for you guys to check out: Lawrence Petross Designs.
Hey John nice stuff what is the trem system on 336 ? I have a cs336 n i'd like a trem 🤔 thanks😊
It's a Dusenberg trem, I just put it in a few days ago.
Could you do a comparison video on the skylar vs soft focus
Very Cavern-esque 😂
That is one of the top openings you’ve done. “For No One” right?
Sounds like my Skylar GFI systems reverb
Soft focus demo
Insta yo la Tengo
I love seeing a shoegaze pedal demoed by JB
Manages to make it sound like mayo and crackers on a white bread sandwich

Says nothing, sells the pedal more effectively than a million words.....think I'll watch that again. At least twice :)

Sounds good, but anything short of a real tank reverb sounds, well, short. Pedal reverbs seem to get lost pretty quickly if you add other effects.

It's emulating soft focus sound from yamaha fx500, a shoegazy reverb used by slowdive. Emulating a real reverb tank is not a focus here
