It’s good for you to see all sides of buying land. I think you should just go travel while you can. I’m 80 now and having trouble with my legs (stairs are darn near impossible) and more fatigue (since covid) which I never foresaw as a problem I would have with aging!!!!! Never expected it. Sooooo go while you can and still have youth.

Look guys you talk to us about your plans and one has to see all sides of it which you have done. you set off on your journey to suss it out and chosen to put your fur babies first. Your thoughts make sense. Those caterpillars sound awful. I don't think you haven't looked into it properly. You have been sensible to go and see what it is like and made a decision on that. Whatever you do we will always look forward to your adventures. Home, Spain or the UK your vlogs are great. It isn't always about what you do it is about how much fun you guys are. xx
25:04 - What do you mean, Nick ? : "Not a load of content." Sand, wind, heat, beach strolls, eb and flood, considering the future, flashback to the past, one dog under the ceiling, one dog under the floor, major cleanup, bolts with vaseline, potential haunted mansion for potential purchase and habitation. Thanks for sharing your adventures, big and small.
Hi guys, I definitely think you are doing the right thing at this present time, putting buying land on a back burner. Such a lot to think about and be responsible for. Anyway you've got lot's of travelling to do, film's to make to keep me entertained on Thursday evenings. Thanks guys. Take care 🙂 💕 xx
Are you joining the hordes of the naive in the Portuguese land grab because it seems fashionable or because your friends have done it and bought land with a goat/pig hut on it, there is a reason Castelo Branco is cheap - it's a deserted tinder dry dust bowl in summer full of flammable trees - stay away
I‘m trying not to be a pain, but I wanted to share something I discovered this week for my hot dogs. (Btw, I have to grab my boy out of the sun, like you did, too!) i bought the not so cheap cooling vests from Hurtta. They’re fantastic. You wet them, wring them out and put in on the dogs like a coat, but it cools them down. They stopped panting and fell asleep, really relaxed. Thought I‘d tell you. I totally agree, travel, leave the land until you find yourself somewhere where it’s suddenly a no-brainer. Your videos have totally inspired me, btw. Really interesting to watch, you’re both really likeable and your dogs are darlings.
Oh yes, buy the abandoned, haunted house! The photography and scenery is stunning as usual. Stay chilled, you are doing the right thing. If something comes along that’s great, if not, that’s great. 😀
Changing your mind is wise as your knowledge and experience changes. Not a good idea to buy property in the interior of Portugal, in future the weather can only get more severe. You have a lovely little cottage as a base in Spain , perhaps all you need now is to upgrade your old trusty van to something newer, though not bigger.
You are 100% doing the right thing. We live near Coimbra and the heat is brutal at times even with fans etc. I wish we had bough right up North (Caminha) on border near Galicia which is a beautiful area and so much milder in summer and winter. I'm not getting why you wouldn't rather just buy in Galicia. Beautiful forest and stunning coastline and much cooler. Im would get a cheap place up there to escape the summer for a couple of months if I could find a way..
Thanks for the info Jacqueline.. We’re keeping our options open for sure.. As you say we really think the heat will be too much and it could get worse as the years go by! Thanks so much for watching..😁
Another great vlog, never fails to entertain and explain. You guys are so generous and inclusive with your life decisions, thank you for brining us along for the ride, see you next week.
Maybe, look at land round there closer to the sea, where it’s so much cooler? Buy a wreck of a house, with less land, but still with scope to be self sufficient and build projects on. So many abandoned places where families have moved into the cities…
I always stock up on Halley insect repellent whilst in Spain. It's a natural repellent and it works. I've never been bitten when using it and I've used it all over the world. Plus it has a pleasant smell. Sounds like I'm a sales rep but I'm not just someone who thinks it Brill....
I use essential lemon oil. As someone that gets eaten alive, I don't get one bite using the oil. But - you will smell highly of lemon..🍋 I also dab it around, carefully (as it's an oil)
I'm seeing a lot of van-lifers searching out property to purchase in Portugal and I have not heard any of them talking about these caterpillars. It's excellent you are putting this out there because a few of them have dogs traveling with them. I googled them and it sounds horrible. I know I would be so obsessed with cutting down branches with the nests and burning them, I would have time to do anything else. No place is paradise, huh?
I can’t believe this even after you posted about those scammers sending people text me at telegram those jerks just emailed me again. They just really want to get some money. Maybe they keep answering me because I say I’m old. Which I am but damn. Thankfully I’m not stuck on stupid. I’m glad I know when it’s you actually answering me. Thank you for always being so kind to me and personal to me.
Enjoyed this and appreciate you explaining the pros and cons to buying a parcel of land in Portugal - now I understand 😊 I love how you include your dogs in the video with cut always to their sweet faces as you’re talking to us. Strange about the lone goat (hope it wasn’t abandoned along with the empty lovely home with the gorgeous view) . It is 100’f here all week. We hike in the dawn and wilt inside the rest of the day (despite having excellent AC). I am not a fan of summer heat. Glad you’re all doing well and enjoying July (egads- the month is almost over)
What a stunning beach that was. You are doing the best thing about researching land purchase, so many things to consider. The cons appear to be a bit higher than the pros just now, judging from your explanation of things. I know you will do what's right for you and the doggies. Youre both such lovely decent people, you deserve to enjoy your life whatever you do. Take care all of you lol Alioban xxxx
I love that we're seeing all this in real time, decisions on the fly! So much fun to come along for. It's exactly how life goes though, one minute you're deciding one thing and then you think oh hang on, maybe not, and then....who knows! Haha, I love it!!
Even though at first glance it may seem a bit scary... LOL The place where they were (Sitio das Hortas) is a Pic Nic and Barbecue area, where families hang out on weekends... more during the summer. It is also a place for bird watching and observation. It is a wild area, because it is part of the Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve. And this place is home to more than 120,000 birds. And it's located in Vila de Alcochete... a fantastic place to live, and Perhaps one of the safest places in the entire region... Alcochete is very famous for its stunning sunsets... and for the food, people, and its parties... and these people like parties lol That's why you can rest assured... that Alcochete is safe, and a fantastic place to explore. P.S. and all these nets and boats... are owned by amateur fishermen, who on weekends are passionate about going fishing in the river... it is a very rich place for sea food.
Watched a few of your videos. There very good and enjoyable. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to watching your old videos New strut will fix your tailgate.
Hello, I think the extreme heat we have been surprised by this summer is just a taste of things to come. Holding off on buying land in an area that does get hot is a good plan. You have your lovely home to retreat to and with the rest of the time roam and experience all you can. Love how Charie kept his ears up listening to you as you were talking while he was in his spot under Vinney. Love all of you, take care.
Since you already are residents of Spain, perhaps you could find a nice rural property there. Less hassle! Or, scrap the land idea and invest is a larger van and continue your travels.Either we'll have WWIII or the price of fuel will come back down! Enjoy!
You are very sensible thinking through the land in Portugal and seeing it in the hottest. part of the year. I was thinking of Portugal, as I left Africa at 38 and moved to Uk. But when I saw the temperatures and the problem with the caterpillars it also put me off as I have a precious dog. Love your two furry babies adorable expressions. You are born travellers by the sounds of it. Take every opportunity to do what you love whilst you are still young. Time passes very fast.
G’day from Switzerland, I would say your struts are buggered ☹️ but if your after a quick fix buy some cheap aluminum U channel, cut it to the length of the smaller sized part of the strut when the back door is fully open. (make sure the U channel is just big enough to fit over the smaller side of the strut so measure that before buying 😉) then when you open the door just clip that piece in and it will keep the door from closing, if it’s a heavy door you might want to make one for the other side too, just make sure they are the same length. I enjoy your videos, always fun to watch… keep up the work..! greetings from a Kiwi in Switzerland Cheers Rick
Stay with the travels while you can, but keep house as a base to come home to. Never know when you might need a stable place to be at! The more houses you have, especially in different countries, the more responsibility .And as you young guys mature, lol, you want to free yourself from more of that! Don’t complicate your lives. Keep up your adventures cause I love watching y’all!!
I love you two and your dogs. Stay on the road, you're videos are so uplifting and the places you go really cheer me up. When life gets tough it's half an hour of escapism for me. Thanks.
Love that you are so realistic and have no problems telling the pros and cons of the Portugal land buy. There are other warm countries as well. But heat and too much of it can be very overrated unless you are near the sea. Friends bought in Mallorca and spent years fighting the local buraucracy for permits and this and that,,, there seemed to be hurdles with every little thing they wanted to do and they finally got fed up with it all, sold and moved back to Canada where it might be a bit cooler but they love being 'home'. The two of you love to travel but I think 'home' is where your heart is, so keep that in mind.
The gas struts have had it guys. I've just bought two from ebay for the large roof light on our touring caravan and replaced them. Check the length, the fittings at each end of the strut and the weight the strut is designed to hold up. Love all your videos and we follow them every week.
Great video as usual guys. Editing is superb and would definitely rival many tv productions. Do whatever makes you (and the doggies) happiest and don't worry too much about 'what ifs'. Enjoy every minute of your travels.
Für die Heckklappe einfach ein Alu U-profil über das dünne Dämpferteil legen ....natürlich auf die passende Länge angepasst...dann kommt die Klappe nicht mehr runter
what a beautiful beach. buy a bit of land where you live and you can attend to it anytime. what about a roof garden, where you can grow things, think out of the box. I luv your videos fantastic as always. stay safe.
Replace the struts, the reason they are acting the way they are is because they are starting to fail. Until replacing use hiking sticks on both sides to prop up.
Hi lovely's I think most of the channels I follow are buying land in Portugal. Is it cheaper than Spain? As for vinnys struts generally there really easy to replace and shouldn't cost much either. Can't wait till next week safe travels 🤗
You have made such good points and really worth thinking about….. but whilst you can travel, go travelling my thoughts anyway when you are fed up with travelling buy laid and have a veggie plot sounds great think I have talked myself into it too
Hi there, just to get an answer on the strut question, they are not repairable, you have to replace them, its easy, remove a clip or pin, on every ball-end and pull on the strut, to get them off the ball. Ones the struts are loosing strength (loosing oil or gas) , they are gone be worse over time soon. Have fun. Cheers.
Enjoyed so much exploring the back and forth of your dilemma. So many of us have sling-shotted in similar ways since Covid changed everything ;-) As my son always reminds me -- "It's all good." 💞
Life's about options. It's good to have them. Take your sweet time your still young. That coast is beautiful but the winds can be pretty fierce especially further north around Aveiro. Stay happy 👍
New struts are cheap and cheerful, eBay is your friend, just measure the closed and fully open lengths and estimate the weight of the lifted piece. Any probs give me a shout, we have a strut manufacturer just down the road.
You do right to consider all the options, pros and cons and until you are actually there its very difficult to know how you will feel. Land purchase is a big thing sp best to take your time - as you say if you fall in love with a property - you will have your answer
Just go traveling plenty of time to settle down when your older ! Just bought one of those dinky little hoovers for my boat I’m a bit excited about it 🤷♀️ thanks for the heads up 👍
@@moonyshine not really tried it properly yet I’m away next week on my boat so it’ll get tested throughly then ! I did have a little go with it in my car and it seemed ok 👍
Hi guys enjoyed the show as ever, rear struts cheap fix, a piece of plastic pipe cut to length and slotted down the middle so it slides over the gas rams and holds the rear door up, or buy some new gas rams .. Peace & love Mono xx
I think you're right to have second thoughts about buying land in Portugal, but i know you will do whatever is right for you both...and for the pups too. Take care of yourselves x
Hi guys from NZ, found your channel recently and we have been binge watching over the last few weeks as we are uplifting a camper next year in the UK. Your Scandinavia vlogs have been inspiring as we look at the different routes we will be taking during our year away.
Hi guys Interesting about buying Land in Portugal. Need to look into some of the issues before you commit to buying. Hope all goes well though. A lovely country. My neighbors are from Portugal and they are lovely people. Very friendly. Our car boot did the same as yours. Kept dropping so we had to replace the struts. It’s fine now. Hope you continue to travel as you go to some lovely places Take care Love Kim x x
Love the slow drone footage and piano music at the beginning. Very restful. People are starting to buy low price land in Ireland on the West Coast and up into North West Coast. Have a look at Mossy Bottom and The Bridgeman's Cottage on youtube - they tell you how they did it. There are others too on YT.
Hi, I really enjoyed your video today, I think its nice having a glimpse into your ideas and plans and motivations, I feel it gives more meaning to be able to be apart of your journey. Your futures sounds very exciting regardless, and I hope to hear more of your ideas as your adventures continue. Thanks for a great video, have a lovely safe time where ever you are. Take care.
The struts went on my car a few years ago, I bought two from a scrapyard and they popped them on all for £20. Even if you buy new, it's worth it, more than a bash on the head!
Hello from not so Sunny Ireland! Just started the Wild Atlantic Way and parked overlooking the ocean tonight. Looking forward to pressing ahead tomorrow…loved the ‘scary atmosphere’ at the first spot you stayed at…😂 hugs for all, Donna x
Lovely video this evening, that abandoned, haunted house looked fab, great idea to buy it if you can find out who owns it. Don't stop travelling, we would all miss your adventures in gorgeous Vinny, he's so cute 😍
You two have been watching too many movies ! Mind you , I can remeber hurtling out of the sea, when I suddenly thought about Jaws, just after I watched it. I was only in Kent !
That problem with alot of places over developed it stops alot of the locals from doing what they do best, when u getr a influx of tourists sometimes well always it spoils some of the natural beaty of some places, thats why i loved watching your channel because of some of the lovely places you visit
Hum, a bit crazy, isn't that the new normal? I'm part of same tribe too! Love how you both, open up the gates into our living room viewing areas, with, " just sharing where your thoughts are at and weighing the pros vs cons. Each week, I look forward to a new wonderful vlog content. Keep it going, Thank You!!
Howdy, I enjoy your vlogs! Here in Central Texas we are experiencing that 40°c. That temp. looks better than our 104°f but we take care of that situation by staying on the cool side of the door! Not sure what we would do in a van. Guess watching you guys enjoying your van life! Keep safe and enjoy your furry friends. That pup playing in the beach sand was fun!
I hope you get your energy back and your legs improve, Priscilla.
Were you very active and athletic ? That worries me most about aging as my joints are already feeling it at 34 due to active lifestyle
Neil - I was active with 5 kids and a real estate business. I traveled too. I wasn’t “athletic “ with an active routine of exercise. The legs going was a real shock. I don’t know whether to blame it on Statins, or Covid or a pesky gene turning on “now your going to age rapidly”.
Totally agree , Pricilla Chapman , I’m exactly the same x
Mine is fibromyalgia.

The beach headland @ 22:10 looks like our local beach, Redhead NSW Australia.
❤❤
Great video as usual guys. Editing is superb and would definitely rival many tv productions. Do whatever makes you (and the doggies) happiest and don't worry too much about 'what ifs'. Enjoy every minute of your travels.
Thanks so much Bill.. Glad you enjoyed the video.. ❤
Für die Heckklappe einfach ein Alu U-profil über das dünne Dämpferteil legen ....natürlich auf die passende Länge angepasst...dann kommt die Klappe nicht mehr runter
what a beautiful beach.
buy a bit of land where you
live and you can attend to it anytime.
what about a roof garden,
where you can grow things,
think out of the box.
I luv your videos
fantastic as always.
stay safe.
❤
Greece and the Greek islands would be good to see. Xxx
Replace the struts, the reason they are acting the way they are is because they are starting to fail. Until replacing use hiking sticks on both sides to prop up.
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
You need some new struts for the van boot. Fairly easy and cheap to replace. Might be harder finding them for an older van like yours though.
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Ahhh you guys continue enjoying yourselves. A lot of us are in the indecisive place - I know I am. Take care.
❤❤
Hi lovely's I think most of the channels I follow are buying land in Portugal. Is it cheaper than Spain? As for vinnys struts generally there really easy to replace and shouldn't cost much either. Can't wait till next week safe travels 🤗
❤
Super cool like always, take care
You have made such good points and really worth thinking about….. but whilst you can travel, go travelling my thoughts anyway when you are fed up with travelling buy laid and have a veggie plot sounds great think I have talked myself into it too
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Hi there, just to get an answer on the strut question, they are not repairable, you have to replace them, its easy, remove a clip or pin, on every ball-end and pull on the strut, to get them off the ball. Ones the struts are loosing strength (loosing oil or gas) , they are gone be worse over time soon. Have fun. Cheers.
Thanks 😊
Enjoyed so much exploring the back and forth of your dilemma. So many of us have sling-shotted in similar ways since Covid changed everything ;-) As my son always reminds me -- "It's all good." 💞
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Again well done Nick, for all your all footage and editing skills. The pace of your video is an example to others. Keep up the good work to you both.
awwwww, Thankyou☺️☺️xx
Life's about options. It's good to have them. Take your sweet time your still young. That coast is beautiful but the winds can be pretty fierce especially further north around Aveiro. Stay happy 👍
❤❤
Probably replace the struts. The heat doesn’t help. Will work fine in the cold. 😎
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
New struts are cheap and cheerful, eBay is your friend, just measure the closed and fully open lengths and estimate the weight of the lifted piece. Any probs give me a shout, we have a strut manufacturer just down the road.
Awesome! Thanks so much Roy.. Yeah looks to be inexpensive to change them! Cheers xx
@@theexPAWers I replaced the tailgate struts on my car last year, £9 each IIRC.
hi if you plan to visit Greece on your adventures. i think a must do is the island of Thassos
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
You do right to consider all the options, pros and cons and until you are actually there its very difficult to know how you will feel. Land purchase is a big thing sp best to take your time - as you say if you fall in love with a property - you will have your answer
❤❤
Just go traveling plenty of time to settle down when your older ! Just bought one of those dinky little hoovers for my boat I’m a bit excited about it 🤷♀️ thanks for the heads up 👍
Is it any good llc? Was thinking about one for my van too
@@moonyshine not really tried it properly yet I’m away next week on my boat so it’ll get tested throughly then ! I did have a little go with it in my car and it seemed ok 👍
❤❤
Hi guys enjoyed the show as ever, rear struts cheap fix, a piece of plastic pipe cut to length and slotted down the middle so it slides over the gas rams and holds the rear door up, or buy some new gas rams .. Peace & love Mono xx
❤
I think you're right to have second thoughts about buying land in Portugal, but i know you will do whatever is right for you both...and for the pups too. Take care of yourselves x
Thanks so much for watching..😁
Hi guys from NZ, found your channel recently and we have been binge watching over the last few weeks as we are uplifting a camper next year in the UK. Your Scandinavia vlogs have been inspiring as we look at the different routes we will be taking during our year away.
😊😊thanks guys xx
Hi guys
Interesting about buying Land in Portugal. Need to look into some of the issues before you commit to buying. Hope all goes well though. A lovely country. My neighbors are from Portugal and they are lovely people. Very friendly.
Our car boot did the same as yours. Kept dropping so we had to replace the struts. It’s fine now.
Hope you continue to travel as you go to some lovely places
Take care
Love Kim x x
❤❤
I think it’s great I love seeing different places, and that spooking stop of . The beaches are gre great xxxxxxx
❤
Love the slow drone footage and piano music at the beginning. Very restful. People are starting to buy low price land in Ireland on the West Coast and up into North West Coast. Have a look at Mossy Bottom and The Bridgeman's Cottage on youtube - they tell you how they did it. There are others too on YT.
❤❤
Hey nick and Sarah! Glad to see Charlie’s feeling better 🥰 loved the vlog! See you next week x❤️
Thankyou so much Paula ❤️ x
Hi, I really enjoyed your video today, I think its nice having a glimpse into your ideas and plans and motivations, I feel it gives more meaning to be able to be apart of your journey. Your futures sounds very exciting regardless, and I hope to hear more of your ideas as your adventures continue. Thanks for a great video, have a lovely safe time where ever you are. Take care.
Thankyou so much Patrick ❤️ x
The struts went on my car a few years ago, I bought two from a scrapyard and they popped them on all for £20. Even if you buy new, it's worth it, more than a bash on the head!
❤😊
Hello from not so Sunny Ireland! Just started the Wild Atlantic Way and parked overlooking the ocean tonight. Looking forward to pressing ahead tomorrow…loved the ‘scary atmosphere’ at the first spot you stayed at…😂 hugs for all, Donna x
❤
We have realised that one thing we miss is growing fruit n veg and having small animals. Much like you we would like to have land in the future.
❤😊
Lovely video this evening, that abandoned, haunted house looked fab, great idea to buy it if you can find out who owns it. Don't stop travelling, we would all miss your adventures in gorgeous Vinny, he's so cute 😍
Aw thank you 😊
❤❤
You two have been watching too many movies ! Mind you , I can remeber hurtling out of the sea, when I suddenly thought about Jaws, just after I watched it. I was only in Kent !
Did the same in our local indoor swimming pool!! 🦈
😂😂😂… When I was a kid after watching Jaws, I didn’t sleep under the duvet because I thought Jaws was going to bite my legs off!!
Jaws has a lot to answer for!!
Loved the montage at min 23.
That problem with alot of places over developed it stops alot of the locals from doing what they do best, when u getr a influx of tourists sometimes well always it spoils some of the natural beaty of some places, thats why i loved watching your channel because of some of the lovely places you visit
awwwww, Thankyou Tony and yes totally agree with you ☺️xx
Just get new struts - they are not expensive - if you wait til you’re back in the Uk later in the year they’ll be even cheaper - about £12 each
Hum, a bit crazy, isn't that the new normal? I'm part of same tribe too!
Love how you both, open up the gates into our living room viewing areas, with, " just sharing where your thoughts are at and weighing the pros vs cons. Each week, I look forward to a new wonderful vlog content. Keep it going, Thank You!!
❤❤
The whole strut must be replaced I believe. The seals inside wear out. I don't think they cost much. Beautiful video. ❤
❤
Howdy, I enjoy your vlogs! Here in Central Texas we are experiencing that 40°c. That temp. looks better than our 104°f but we take care of that situation by staying on the cool side of the door! Not sure what we would do in a van. Guess watching you guys enjoying your van life! Keep safe and enjoy your furry friends. That pup playing in the beach sand was fun!
❤
I was in Texas twice brutal heat and not so good politics
I so enjoy your travels. The beach is usually cooler, no matter where you go. Love to all four of you. I really "enjoy your company".
❤
Dego new struts required,. Easy to fit.
