The Greatest Story Ever Told is a 1965 American epic film produced and directed by George Stevens and distributed by United Artists. It is a retelling of the story of Jesus Christ, from the Nativity through the Resurrection. This film is notable for its large ensemble cast and for being the last film appearance of Claude Rains.

I saw Messiah performed live on the Thames River in London. It was performed by the choirs of Westminster Abbey and Saint Paul’s Cathedral. After the Hallelujah chorus finished, they set of fireworks over the city. Glory be to Jesus Christ, the eternal King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
That must have been magnificent! (As long as London had good weather that day.)

Incredible peice of music, The harmonisation and sheer power of it, is amazing.. Truly a triumph of the spirit.
This was played at two major points in the film: the raising of Lazarus, and at the Lord’s Ascension. Beautiful film!

Happy Easter The Lord is Risen!
I have to admit, I got tired of this song because it had become a cliché in my mind.
Then, when I saw the movie, it suddenly had new life in my spirit!
Hallelujah to the King of Kings!
Worthy is He of all praise!
He put it best in the prayer said in the scene where Lazarus is resurrected: "Who is like thee, O Father in Heaven? Majestic in holiness, terrible in glorious deeds, doing wonders! There is none that can be delivered out of thy hand!"

'THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE" From concept, production design, musical score to direction... , George Stevens wanted to create a film that could never surpassed.This is the Ultimate work of art by a director (shaped by being there as official photographer at the liberation of the Nazi extermination camps in WW2) who wanted to tell his version of "The Greatest Story Ever Told". If you love Lean (who worked on this film), Kubrick or any director who shaped cinema, you will appreciate this masterpiece .
Agreed! This is the best film version of the life of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Max Von Sydow portrayed him beautifully! Without a doubt, a labour of love from director George Stevens.
It is always stirring to hear this music during the raising of Lazarus, and at the climax of the Resurrection.

Beautiful music! Unfortunately this film is uneven. Its a shame they didnt combine productions of "King of Kings" with "The Greatest Story Ever Told" in some way.
