    • @xx_phantastic_xx
      @xx_phantastic_xx Год назад +25

      Jobs that have too many skills and fill up nearly 3 hotbars is a big red flag and undesirable to me. Machinist, Summoner and Dragoon are some good job examples that have nice flow and not 9999 skills

    • @mbsw28
      @mbsw28 Год назад +10

      @@xx_phantastic_xx honestly, i disagree with the dragoon is a good job example, dragoon on level max has a very long combo rotation and currently has the most positional weaponskill compared to other job, and too many ogcd in between combo to maximize the damage output.
      Monk now is okay and decent to play compared the old one
      Reaper is nice

      Mostly just comes down to how busy a job feels. Ast, Brd, Rdm, Mnk, Gnb, these jobs are all notoriously busier than other jobs in their respective roles yet there's no damage reward to incentivize the extra effort to learn them.
      That said some people really like that kind of play style though so while certainly not for me I'm glad there's something there for the players that like that

      It’s a shame; but it’s always been a hot topic in the community. Too complicated, too inconvenient, too hard to learn. But it’s always had the edge in (almost) every expansion.

    Red Mage is fun because it has those flashy magic and melee combinations! It might not do fantastic DPS, but it can totally save any party from impending doom (at lv. 64+) with its capacity to do four rezzes in ~10 seconds. Vercure (lv. 54+) with Dualcast is no slouch, either.

      I used to main Astro in SB and the other SB but then they deleted half the class by removing the shield stance. My friend and cohealer was a WHM so I switched to Sage.
      Astro was a lot more fun and Sage bores me to death without the card system. In hard content you just press one button for most of the time since damage intervals are predetermined. No reactivity no brain use.
      I still don't understand why they thought that Noct had to go away just so there's 2 shield and 2 regen healers... Who cares if there 1.5 to 2.5....

Did some very minor article skimming prior to making my choice but ended up doing it for the flavor and based on my play styles in other games- had no idea it was one of the busier choices I could’ve made 😅 I don’t feel as bad about getting overwhelmed now. 14 is my first MMO as well, so getting the hang of it has been A Lot, but I feel like I’m close to getting my rotation down pretty well! New AST has barely any RNG whereas SB AST could get you a considerable amount more damage with expanded balance and C.Opp would net you those juicy 10 extra seconds of expanded balance. Still love the class but it's been dumbed down so much since then and the card mechanic just feels tacked on now as opposed to how fleshed out it used to be.

      My main issue with redmage is kind of petty probably but I just don't feel like most of the spell effects and sound design feel all that good. There's little impact or punch to the main spells so almost everything except the big finishers just feels unsatisfying compared to summoner or blackmage. Though given the jobs generally lackluster damage I guess that is appropriate.

      @@troikas3353 To be fair, Red Mage historically in FF has always been the "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" job. They'd be very powerful options for the early game since they could do both physical and magic damage competently so could handle a wide array of foes, while doubling as a healer if needed. However they peak very early, with other spellcasters having way more devastating spells later, proper healers doing way more, and dedicated physical fighters both having more attack damage and bulk. The sole advantage to being a red mage in the late game was getting access to Dualcast and the flexibility that afforded you.
      For this reason I don't think it would make much sense for Red Mages to have too-powerful looking spell effects, cause it takes from other spellcasters while also just being more with the melee animations too. Vermilion Scourge (LB3) at least looks incredible, it's my favourite of the Caster LB's and I say this with much Jealousy as a Black Mage main :D

    I started raiding in February 2023 solely on RDM. While progging, I've built my gear solely around rapid MP regeneration as I'll brute rez us into seeing and learning new mechanics until we're ready to clear. The underappreciation of mass rezzing over half the party in seconds is criminal though xD But what I also noticed with RDM is that because there is a melee rotation, I've had to coordinate with statics to allow me access to melee range at certain times of the fight. For example, I only have two opportunities in BJCC for my melee combo to go off because I'm otherwise constantly in range, filling up my bar to 100%. In addition, while progging there is also this unspoken rule that RDM is the only range job to learn melee DPS positions in a fight should a party queue with three range. While learning P9S-P12S, I've come to learning every DPS position and switch on the spot if need be. There is a nice level of busy-ness with RDM that still doesn't feel too overwhelming when I'm also keeping an eye on the party during prog. I think that's why I've also started to fall in love with AST. There's so much planning involved and when my heals go off at just the right second while I'm just casually slapping cards on people, that is the best satisfaction knowing I timed everything just right :)

    The correlation should be obvious. The more complex the class is to play by design. The more effective it needs to be in its role. Both FFXIV and other MMOs get this wrong all the time.
    Easy classes. Three button classes… get the most DPS, healing or survivability.
    Whereas complex classes with multiple skill synergies and cool-downs and extra elements to juggle. Are least effective.

When I told my friends (who themselves have been playing FFXIV for the last couple years) that I'd be playing as a Monk they warned me about the complexity, etc. But really, the core hotbar setup is a 3x3 grid for the interchangable 1-2-3 rotation. I keep an eye out on my buffs, try to fill and use my chakras as much as I can, and ensure my DOT doesnt run out on the boss. Those couple things seem pretty managable to me and through feedback from other players, I seem to be doing a decent job! But I do believe I've only run into a handful of other Monks, and maybe less than 5 of those were actual Monk mains. Maybe with dawntrail things will change? MNK is actually a fairly easy job now without managing greased lightning - at least past like 50. For most fights, you're doing a threebutton for your AOE combo - it's become one of the best for pure AOE damage.
    Also, the singletarget dragon kick rotation *will* keep you out of grayparse as long as you remember to use debuff and true north, so unless you're competing for parse or doing high-end raiding, it's definitely a Good Enough job to get you through content.

    I've always summarized Bard as, "The job that is fun to play; terrible to optimize."
    imo, you have to give 10x the effort as the other phys ranged; and the payoff isn't there.
    Not entirely bashing it; I have fun on it. But in short amounts.
    AST has some button bloat for controller players still; part of the reason why I won't play it in savage. Just can't play it to the level I can play other healers. Definitely a fun class and very visual, but it's difficult to pull off the rapid Draw/Play, having to D-pad thru the Party list.
    I main BLM for my dps of choice; honestly it's in a good spot right now. Simple rotation with easy filler spots/timing, the difficulty is proper footwork and utilizing slide casting. That moment when you master a fight and keep uptime decently high as a BLM? *chef's kiss*
    and finally....
    as a MNK main during SB and SHB, I miss what we had. I enjoyed the weird, 6 positionals; weaving back and forth dodging and trying your best to stick to the boss despite the aoes. By far my favorite time to play Monk. New Monk isn't *bad* per say, but it's a stark difference compared to what attracted me to Monk in the first place.
    I *do* have a weird issue with weird openers that some monks utilize to align the Phantom Rush into burst windows.

Horoscope heals 200 (12k) potency if it's activated by aspected helios. Sadly, it's a lot of time to end up around maybe 50% hp (no crits). WHM has benediction and Afflatus solace + tetragrammaton (45k hp, no crits).That means 1 tank insta topped and another player with almost full hp if dps/healer. AST's huge, emergency heal is not Essential Dignity, it is Synastry. People don't know how to use it, and people get trapped thinking that Essential Dignity is. It's the AST equivalent of trying to get freecure as a WHM, use Dignity like you use Tetra. AST is a pretty powerful healer, but it's just that it's less straight forward compared to WHM. Macrocosmos lets me ignore mechanics. Neutral Sect lets me solo heal when my co-healer is making out with the floor. It's just a job that requires you to read your tooltips and do math, and to be fair - the busy nature of it isn't for everyone. It's a bit of a learning curve that is very rewarding once everything clicks.

    infact BLM can stack like 10 or 11 instant cast spell back to back, that job has more mobility than most of healer in this game, and for the love of god, don't treat ley line as part of your rotation then sit your ass in 1 place, ley line should be treat as a bonuse, only put it down when you think you can make use of it, sometime holding it is a good choice

      Idk if ppl are taking it too far with the meme, it is a thing, most ppl just arent great at blm in casual content so i dont think they are intentionally doing these things, they probably end up staying inside aoes trying to not drop their fire stack and in harder content blms difficulty jumps up a notch
      ur instant cast spell options isnt always avaliable and u want to use it when others are using their buffs so that comes into the idea of planning ahead which is way more effort than a job like summoner/red mage, not only that when u dont have these instant cast options and trying to move for mechanics it becomes awkward trying to not drop ur firestack and keep damage up, and knowing the fight well enough to plan ur leylines too which is another thing to further keep in mind and often makes blm mains play summoner first in day 1 prog then switching to blm once they know the fight

      im not sure thats good advice, keep your ley lines on cooldown, or its just a lost usage. some uptime in the ley lines is better than none, but the problem you run in to with casual players is being dead set in being in those ley lines even when they mess up the placement. there are some instances where you need to hold it later or drop them earlier, but again everything about black mage is it being encounter dependant. as a general rule though, always use LL off cooldown. i agree that it has a lot of movement as well if you plan well but again like anything else you should be using your triple casts off cooldown *generally* as well. triple casts should be well planned out so ur not lacking when movement is needed, there is so much movement in black mage though aside from just triple cast.
      btw this is not advice that i'm making up, this is what is said by the Balance and really good black mage players.

    They killed Astrologian, even my AST main friends do not really play it for savage raiding anymore -- they need someone who is an AST main on the team while they’re reworking it, to really understand what AST mains want.
    I was so sad when they got rid of Nocturnal Sect, only to give arbitrarily the same function to SGE later on. Give me back my Noct sect ; __ ; Also I liked the prior system of Lord/Lady of Crowns -- it made more sense of like oh I don’t want to cast this card because itll mess up my seals, so instead I can still cast it as a DMG up to a DPS as a Lord/Lady.
    I know that the 3 different seals only really matters now for your own dmg for Astrodyne usage, and that it is better that Divination is just an immediate cast now instead of needing to get 3 seals -- but man I still liked the old Lord/Lady system better for how convenient it was, and that I enjoyed more buffing others than having it benefit my own dmg (if I pulled a Lord of Crowns for AOE dmg in current update).
    This is also me just speaking out of personal opinion, but I liked how challenging old Astrologian was with the cards specifically, how Spear benefited Dragoons, while Ewer was good for DRK or WHM (being a card that helped restored MP) -- but ik that’s not a popular opinion and people likes the cards being a general DMG up instead, which is completely great too! I guess I just liked how stressful it was to play AST so long ago, and how rewarding it felt when you get it down, and other players being amazed you nail it down and can play it :’)))

    I was an astro main for a few years, but do not like EW astro at all, so stopped playing it. Lightspeed is by default a part of your buff window, so you have no movement abilities outside of it, constant retargetting, minor arcana being horrible, and the fact that most shield healers do not know how to play with an astro as a co-healer is frustrating. I got tired of asking co-healers to stop healing when star is about to go off.

      @@StingcatKnight I don't think they necessarily buffed Bard recently. It's probably more likely that a vast majority of people raiding as Bard are probably doing so because they know the class inside and out. It should not be this way. The reasons are two factors which are because of how badly SE redid Summoner and also the segment of the FF14 playerbase who are not only casuals/non-casuals...but a mixture of the two who are lazy players. They will abandon Summoner if SE nerfs or increases the challenge of the rotation. These type of players are what ruins aspects of a class/job design!

    I'm a BRD main. I enjoy managing DOTs and songs. It's a pretty straight forward rotation in my opinion, once practiced, with a little RNG thrown in which I don't mind. Since I love BRD I wouldn't mind a slight damage buff, of course. But actually, my main ask to improve the job would be to make the buffs for the team more impactful or meaningful. I think its odd that the concept of the class is basically an archer who uses music to buff and help allies, however you can't res or directly heal teammates in any capacity. The best we have is Nature's Minne and Troubadore which only buff healing and defense by 10% or 15% respectively for just 15 seconds. I don't know... in my opinion it doesn't feel very impactful or exciting lol. I want to feel like I'm really helping a teammate out! Then there's Mage's Ballad which increases party damage by a whopping 1% 😂 I think it tells you everything you need to know about the devs balancing for this class. This is my main gripe. But I still love playing it because I'm a creature of habit, and it's what I'm on most of the time. The vibes are nice.

    AST is not my favorite healer, but I will absolutely use it over WHM anyday. Prior to lv 50+ skills, I had issues keeping MP with WHM. I never have to worry about it with AST. Even my SCH and SGE need the occasional Lucid Dreaming, but AST recovers MP so much easier.
    MNK seemed straightforward to me, but the lack of any ranged option usually has me leave it behind (and I don't include Howling Fist, because that has to be built up first). Being able to jump between AOE and single-target enemies without losing combos makes it useful, I just have other classes I think are more fun to play.

    Whenever RDM comes into the mix, people complain about its lack of personal dmg... And I agree -.- On the other hand, its the go-to job for progging: being able to raise half the group within seconds is a very useful trait.
    When EW started, BRD seemed to be in a very good spot, a lot of raiders used it and it seemed very viable... Then apparently it got nerfed to the ground again. Cant have a consistant job in this game >.<
    Astro. Probably the reason why it gets a rework in 7.0...
    BLM: its in a good spot. The only reason it and MNK arent played often is, yeah, its hard to play. But both do high dmg which is why they are considered to be valid. The problem is, as you already said, RDM, BRD and AST have abyssmal dmg, so why bother learning them?
    On the other hand, lets have a look at those charts: MCH only has 2k more personal dps than BRD. And in a raid environment of a group focused game, thats supposed to matter?? I think these dps charts are missleading: the differences between jobs of the same role is negligible and it still comes down to "if you play properly, it doesnt matter what you pick".

    • @StingcatKnight
      @StingcatKnight  Год назад

      honestly rdm should do similar rdps as summoner at least, since it is more difficult to play
      i dont remember bard being nerfed but its always been very unpopular

    • @Someone_3lse
      @Someone_3lse Год назад +1

      The only time 2k dps will matter is if you die at 0.1%. And at that point it still doesn’t matter cuz you didn’t wipe cuz not enough damage. You wiped cuz you failed too many mechanics before that. Also swapping from BRD to MCh does not mean you’ll immediately get an extra 2k dps. You’ll always get more dps out of the job you’re familiar with.
      As for the reason some of these aren’t played. MCH has more damage than BRD and DNC is easier to play. Idk the difference in support buff between the 2 numbers wise but I imagine that plays a factor as well. As for casters I gotta disagree. I see a ton of RDM mains. One of the more common ones along with RPR. BLM was nailed on the head. Difficult job that not everyone is willing to put the time into leveling let alone learning all the ins and outs of it. Then we throw SMN in there with a super easy rotation and a rez and decent damage. Ofc SMN is gunna be played more. But RDM is still played more than SMN in my experience. Regardless of the damage it’s not a difficult job. It has dual casting and Rez which makes the default best rezzer period. No healer can compete with that. Monk has a strict rotation. You want to cycle between them for the buff and damage and the 2nd style(apologies for not remember the monk forms). Then you have to swap the third form for single damage and putting up a dot. And that’s just the rotation between burst phases.
      Then there astro. It’s the cards. Nothing else. It’s just the cards. They force you to swap between boss for personal damage and different party members for buffs.and that’s just with ogcd. Then throw on the fact it’s optimal pull time is 30 seconds. Yea. I can understand why it’s not popular.
      TLDR 2k dps doesn’t matter in the long run. DNC is easier to play than BRD. I see a lot of RDM mains. BLM is difficult. Monk dot and buff on basic combo balance. And Astro cards

      Unless your goal is to speed farm/get records in high end cintent you should prioritize jobs you like to play/are good at over jobs which have higher theoretical dps.
      Generally, you will clear if you resolve mechanics without dropping too much, regardless of class chouce. Lower dps jobs are "worth" learning if you enjoy them and have motivation to learn hiw to play them well. A good rdm will out-dps a bad blm or sam while also bringing useful utility.
      Not to say classes are all well balanced per se but the margins are small enough where it wont realistically impact your avility to do content.

I've been a part of too many raid teams where someone will understand how to do a burst opener, but they have no idea how to sustain their dps during long fights on a like... fundamental level, lol.

    BRD: Make Mages Ballad and Wanderers into stances that are permanently active like the shield/regen-aspect AST had in ShB, give Armys Peon a 60 sec cd and make it so that the dots are no attacks themselfs but augment your next weaponskill to affect all targets hit with that debuff so you could actually aoe-dot like SMN in again ShB
    BLM: give a small version of Umbral Soul at early levels (like 15 or so) that only refreshes the timer of the ice-stance that gets upgraded to Umbral Soul later, so you wouldn`t have to transpose all the time and give Xenoglot-stacks earlier that can be used on a augmented Scathe for no MP-cost apart from that it`s pretty much the perfect dps-job
    RDM: make it so Verraise can only be instant by using Swiftcast yet not by Dualcast and make Scourge a auto-crit and Resolution a auto-direct-crit. Nothing in this job sucks more ass than having a highroll Verthunder deal about as much damage as your lowroll Resolution.
    As a former-RDM-main I demand the old Scourge-Animation back!
    MNK: Make Six-Sided-Star an ogcd-backflip like Elusive Jump on DRG that doesn`t interfere with your gcd and gives like 10secs of movement-speed instead of 5.
    And give me back positionals on Bootshine and Dragonkick. I understand we won`t have positionals anymore in 7.0 but come on, we went from having 6 to a measly 2.
    And the usual with big buildup-finishers: Tornadokick auto-crit/Phantom-Rush auto-direct-crit
    Apart from that, best melee-dps-job to learn dps with same for SMN for the ranged/casters because both jobs get their core-gameplay super early MNK (lvl30) / SMN (lvl26)
    I personally hope that we will see a shiftback to a more basic gameplay with less buttons where the combos are within one button like in PVP or SMN in PVE and more demanding fightdesigns like Barbariccia

      Hard disagree with you in your last paragraph about making jobs simpler like smn. Smn has 0 substance to it and has very little room for skill expression. The damage difference between a new player and an experienced player on smn is very minor with little room for any optimization. Dps is rewarding to play because the time spent practicing and planning out your rotation during a fight pays off with higher damage output. It’s part of the fun of learning fights aside from just mechanics. If all jobs were easy mode like smn, fights would lose replay value because there’d be little room to make your gameplay better and better.

      @@swamp-puppy14 you missread the last paragraph, for I didn't meant simplify it down to the level of SMN. SMN was just an example for the same-button-several-uses-case but I can see how my wording can be missread that way. What I wanted to get across was more akin to less total buttons like our basic 1-2-3combos that can easily be put onto 1 button as well as a more demanding fightdesign. Complexity in thought can be achieved with simplicity in design.
      Imo every job is super easy, same goes for the fightdesign in general apart from Ultimates (excluding UWU) and final Raidfights like E12S when it came out
