Wow, i think you're the only reviewer who talked about notability having to pay extra in order to get more features. I thought it already comprised of all the features with that slightly more price tag compared to goodnotes. I think i will stick with goodnotes. Thanks for the detailed review!
i've watched soooo many videos comparing the two apps and none have been as in depth and informational as yours! this really helped me choose which app to get. thanks for making such a great video!!!
Hey, great video! I actually thought I would buy notability, but after just this video I decided to go for goodnotes. I love the way you present things, show us basically everything we would want to know about the app, divide the things and compare the apps. Good job, tho I heard the paper like isn't as good as they say (scratches too much and wears off the pencil tip). :) Oh, and I would much rather watch a 'long' video tackling all of the things i wanted to know than a short one, so don't worry about it being long!
Hey thanks so much for watching! Glad you liked my presenting style! I completely get you with the length of the video though, I wanted to cover all aspects so thought it was necessary. The screen protector doesn't actually wear the tip down in my opinion. I've used it for a year now but my pencil is fine. My pencil is slightly indented but that's because I dropped it on the floor a few times 😅. Its not because of paperlike, at least in my experience.
Thank you so much for this review, you’re the first person talking about the fact that notability includes more purchases after buying it (even if it’s already more expensive). You’re avoiding me to buy for nothing, and helped me choose between the two! Thank you very much 😁😁
Yeah so true!! Everyone just says notability! I remember getting so stressed about which one to buy and I wanted goodnotes but all I heard was notability.
I love the details about this video! Sneaking in the “subscribe” and “like” without referring to this in person, that’s so clever :). I also liked the funny editing in the video e.g. the shape counter. It just gives me a very nice feeling watching this.
Thank you for the very honest comparison of both apps! I’ve been a faithful Notability user of many years, but this week’s announcement of the subscription model has me reconsidering (I did get GoodNotes at 50% off, but I’m still learning the app). The recording feature is what keeps me using Notability because of my work and area of studies, but I agree that we might get that in GoodNotes sometime in the future.
i’m really impressed by your video!! after weighing the pros and cons i’ve decided to go with good notes as it is more customisable and visually appealing and easier to use with just $10.99 sgd. thank you!.
I've been wondering about getting one of these apps and was trying to figure out which would suit me better, so thanks so much for the video, it's really helped!!
Everyone is going on goodnotes but I’m a messy person so I will probably never going to organize my notes and I need the voice feature because I’m slow and don’t trust myself with just writing notes so I’ll go with Notability but I’ll get goodnotes in the future
In. Notability, you can have the or the same document side by side, edit one and it copies it on to the other automatically as you write. You can also have a 3rd note floating on top.
@@DoctorDevify Another thing is, being that you can have 2 notes open side by side within the notability app, you can also open another instance of the notability app with apple's multitasking feature. This allows you to have 4 notes open.
Thanks for the review, Good Notes should probably pay you for this review, if not I hope they seriously look into doing so. As per mentioned by many people here, the part about paying for Add Ons in notability is not mentioned much in reviews or I skipped it. For a new person starting out I would rather pay once for good notes, and later after being familiar with the note taking process on the iPad. I might decide that Notability has features that I might like later.
Finally a logical thinker. Every other youtuber just recommends notability. But bruh, all the features behind notability's paywall can be found in goodnotes for free. I thought I was going insane.
@@DoctorDevify I really love good notes but I have no choice but to stick with notability. Reason being, I have a 800 page pdf textbook and whenever I write stuff on it, it takes good notes like a rough few minutes to back it up on onedrive. Hey man, I’m a senior in college so I just need this app for one semester longer but I’m going to use these apps when I graduate and get a job. Which app do you believe is best for the real world/a job?
Hey mate, personally, I think Goodnotes is the better app. I love its file organisation system and I feel like apart from the audio recording feature notability has (which I don't think would be useful for you?), goodnotes has everything and more features.
No worries, thanks for watching! I don't think there's a direct create a table tool but there is a workaround. If you use the shape tool, you can make yourself a box and then separate it into rows and columns. I'm suprised they don't have a proper table tool though. Hope this helps :)
Omg i thought I responded😅😅 it doesn't have a ruler tool per ce but you can draw a line and hold it and it straightens out. You can then let go and it stays or move it around and change the length/direction of the line
Yeah 100% I think that's possible! I think there's a video I saw of this person who printed out his notes and made it into a proper book and it looked really cool and unique
I love Notability because its way cheaper in the long run if you really care about the money. You can simply buy a graphics tablet for like 30$ and use notability with it. Even with the subscription I'd need to use Notability for at least a decade before I come close to what some other people paid for the apple pencil alone. Goodnotes doesn't really work well with non apple products.
Hey man ......i have been using notify for the past 2 yrs .....its suddenly lagging and crashing like mad ......its happened all of a sudden ......i have sent the crash logs to the app developer but i am not very hopeful ........do you have any suggestions
Procreate is a drawing app so I don't think it's really optimized for taking notes. It really lacks a lot of the features goodnotes has so it might be worth getting it!
Yeah you’re right, i got it mainly for drawing and tried to write my notes on it for my first week of using my iPad. I just got GoodNotes though and I’m loving it so far!
Hey, I think it varies a lot on the person. I have been using the 11 inch ipad personally. It's a great size for travel and fits nicely on lecture tables, big enough for writing. However, theres some that prefer the 12.9 inch just because it's so large and just a huge canvas for creativity. I think it hugely depends on the person so I would try out both if possible because you really need to see it in person to see what it's like. Perhaps try out the 11 inch and then see if you like it - if not you could replace it with the 12.9 inch?
Hmm that's the only thing about these 2 apps, they're strictly iPad which I hate! Can't access them on my phone. I was considering including onenote too but as you can see, the video is already so long and adding onenote might have made it a bit more complex 😅 but I definitely plan on making a video on that in the future!
Great review! I've heard that goodnotes' projects are way larger than notability. Could you create 1 project for each app, fill with some random scribbles and compare sizes? Not the exported pdf, but the note itself:)
Hey, glad you liked the video! I did a small test where I wrote a similar sentence on both. The good notes file was 34kb and on notability it was 22kb. I then proceeded to add an image of similar size and goodnotes became 1mb and Notability was 12mb. I'm not sure why a difference of that much is there. Also something to note, with Notability you have to choose between what file type to save. You can't save on both Notability and PDF format but in goodnotes you can back up both in pdf goodnotes format at the same time.
Does having the paperlike screen protector effect the screen quality like for example, just warching netflix and browsing through the web? Some uoutibers dont actually mentions this since all they mention is they do the job in note taking but how about for other purposes? Is it good or bad?
Hey, glad you asked! This was definitely a big question on my mind when I purchased it! So there's no denying that the resolution is crispier without any screen protector. Adding the screen protector does cause a slight decrease in resolution as it's a matt screen protector. Things aren't as sharp. It's much better than paperlike v1 but there's still room for improvement. But when watching Netflix or in general use of the device I don't think it's a significant impact but definitely a noticeable one. Unfortunately that slight dip in screen quality is what you have to give up if you want the features of paperlike. Hope that helps!
I am using both the apps ....and both are very good....first good notes was far better than notability ...but notability has added more features now.... There is only one problem i am facing in good notes....that while writing it feels slippery.... instead in notability...it gives better writing experience.... do you have any idea to deal with this....
ah I see, yeah the apps do get new features all the time! Thats strange, I haven't experienced any slipperyness on my end. I use the paperlike screen protector to stop that but if you get it in one app and not the other, that suggests it could be an app bug. I would recommend sending a message to goodnotes on twitter or contacting customer support. Hope this helps :)
Bruh notability orginization is way better. It can get complicated finding specific notes if your gonna have to click through 3 to 4 folders every time.
Ah I see, I have noticed marks on the screen protector but I'm not sure if they're scratches from the pencil or it's more to do with the fact that on a microscopic level, the surface is uneven and that causes some scratches or whether those scratches are from me putting the iPad in my bag.
Hey, I started using paperlike for over a year before I started RUclips and have been using it since. If it's something that I use daily and recommend, thought I might as well get an affiliate link for it and help support the channel

I would recommend sending a message to goodnotes on twitter or contacting customer support. Hope this helps :)
Bruh notability orginization is way better. It can get complicated finding specific notes if your gonna have to click through 3 to 4 folders every time.
ah fair enough bro makes sense. I guess in some instances notability is probs a bit cleaner in execution.
Does writing with the paperlike screen protector leave any scratches??
Hey, could you please clarify what you mean. Do you mean scratches on the apple pencil or the iPad?
@@DoctorDevify yea ofc I heard writing with paperlike leaves scratches on the actual screen protector itself, is it true?
Ah I see, I have noticed marks on the screen protector but I'm not sure if they're scratches from the pencil or it's more to do with the fact that on a microscopic level, the surface is uneven and that causes some scratches or whether those scratches are from me putting the iPad in my bag.
“Not sponsered” but you have a dedicated link to your RUclips name. Lol.
Hey, I started using paperlike for over a year before I started RUclips and have been using it since. If it's something that I use daily and recommend, thought I might as well get an affiliate link for it and help support the channel
Most of this felt like one long Notability roast lmao
Haha I tried to make it fair though and give pros and cons for both but I guess some bias would still come through
@@DoctorDevify you did a great job :)
Thank you :)
Did you just RICKROLL us?
Hahaha the first person who realised it
@@DoctorDevify Lol, I am surprised no one realised it until now 😂
Yeah haha it's not even the first time I've done it in a video
Well crap, dont know which one
😂😂
