In case you missed it: 7 ways GoodNotes is better (part 3): ruclips.net/video/xCzxi7DV9GU/видео.html 9 similarities between GoodNotes & Noteful (part 1): ruclips.net/video/ptN1bwpUZC4/видео.html
I currently have GoodNotes, but I've been dissatisfied with two aspects. The first is the lack of audio. Right now, I'm using it to listen to students do speeches, then I correct them. It's a very difficult task at times as it is really hard to keep up. I write down notes when I hear their mistakes, but sometimes I miss what they say, so having audio and the ability to go back to the point where they made the mistake is wonderful. Unfortunately, the text sync doesn't seem to work the same as the hand writing tool, so I make little marks with the pen to mark "chapters". Secondly, something you didn't mention, is having layers. With Goodnotes, I find it annoying that I can't overlap something without disturbing other things. Sometimes when I write in notes between the text layers, the text layer will sometimes move a tiny bit throwing off all my diagrams because they don't move along with the text. It would be nice if I could separate the text and the notes into layers so they I don't accidently move the text layer, or somehow group them together so that they both move. I really like their sticker feature, but it still needs improvement with layering, etc. The biggest problem is having to switch quickly between the text tool and the hand writing tool. It doesn't seem to work smoothly for me. Also, there seems to be a bug when I'm typing notes and backspace to correct a typo, it will sometimes delete the whole text box. I think it's because when I switch it "selects" the text box. It's super annoying and when I click undo, it also undoes the text that I had typed previously so I lose that information. I've looked into many other programs and I'm really liking Noteful because of the layering aspect, the audio and the fact that you can change the presentation into a 16:9 mode, which I didn't know about until this video. I'm excited about trying that. I do believe I will upgrade to the full version. It's not perfect because there are a lot of missing features, but it's nicer for using it as a presentation tool, I think.
We covered layers in a different video as we thought they would be a bit confusing for most people. But, Noteful has some super features even though it's still missing quite a bit. We hope to see the other features soon.
Thank you for breaking this down. I have GoodNotes, but I didn’t consider getting Noteful because it seemed too plain to me. I’m now taking a second look at Noteful because I think the features you mentioned are good ones.
Beware: The Goodnotes folks may come with yet another update that equalizes Noteful‘s advantage - or even more. This market is very dynamic - take Collanote … Keep it up!
@@kautukraj Sure, as you can see they have a growing list of tasks to do - let‘s wait what they come up with. If you get short of diskspace just unload the app but then you won‘t get the updates, I am anxious to see what they will do…
As a doctor I’m trying to shift completely to digital studies related to my profession. So far doing all my studies on Noteful. I love it but Noteful search option ‘sucks’. Whenever I try to search a keyword in pdf, the app crashes. I hope developers fix this
Thanks for all your videos and reviews of note taking apps. I find them very helpful. I've been a long time Notability fan, but have been consistently frustrated with them since all the mistakes made when they shifted to a subscription model. I'm curious if you or others started experiencing notability sync issues around that time, or if that has just been me? Sync between my mac and ipad with notability has been the major reason I'm looking for another solution. Would love to switch to Noteful, but they don't have a Mac app yet, and they don't sync typed notes to audio (as you mentioned in this video). So I'm hoping to see these other elements implemented and then I'll be happy to leave for noteful. Thanks again for your work on this channel! :)
We’ve heard a lot of reports about Notability syncing issues lately. From our experience, when apps go subscription, they also start providing poor service to customers. We’re yet to see an app that does that differently. Which is sad ☹️
@@membeli999 The company mentioned that you can use the ipad app on the Mac, is that what you're doing? If so is it going well? When I reached out to them, they did say a mac app was on their roadmap, but didn't offer a timeline for that.
@@shanepatrick I mainly use the iPad to create notes, especially when I need the Apple Pencil. But I can annotate on the M1 Macbook using the mouse or trackpad. I think handwriting is an iPad activity. For me, Noteful works really well on the Macbook - I can easily import images and pdf documents, annotate them, and write text with the keyboard. The sync works well across my devices. I still have Notability and Goodnotes somewhere, but I never use them.
The color palette of Noteful makes me jealous. The limited quick access color selection of Good Notes is sometimes such an annoying deal breaker. People requested a better solution since such a long time - sometimes the development of Good Notes feels super slow. Same with links which took them forever to integrate them. It's a bit sad that the weak points of Good Notes are things that many people would consider as a "core" functionality of a good note taking app. Your video made me purchase Noteful. Good Notes needs more competition to push them a bit forward.
@@energieberatungring3215 well my handwriting is so bad it doesn't get recognised by any app 🙈. So it doesn't matter. The best option still is to type important text, which can't be done on an ipad while using the stylus simultaneously (unless one uses a Bluetooth keyboard). Overall that's why I use The more efficient pen tablets on a laptop, as not taking is faster on it.)
IMO handwriting recognition is top priority. Every time there is an update, I eager hope handwriting recognition is there. I love Noteful, but I've stopped using it as without handwriting recognition it's just a piece of analog paper with no search capabilities.
If Noteful could allow video’s to be embedded like images, it would meet my requirement so well. It seems OneNote or Apple Notes does this but what would you recommend?
Now I am looking for a note taking app in which I can index a word in a certain page to another word/picture in another page. Can you give me some advice? Thank you very much.

@@PaperlessX Thank you so much Ropsie! I just bought an iPad Pro for the first time and can't believe how time-consuming and difficult it is to zero in on a note taking app. There's not just one app. I guess I'll have to use a suite of them but with one go-to. What concerns me about Noteful is the lack of search inside notes and PDFs. I'll have to watch your video on a workaround for that I guess. I love your videos! I use them as ASMR too 🤣 -- maybe I'll learn this stuff in my sleep and save some time!

Thanks for making me aware of noteful I love it so much. Goodnotes is too basic. Zoomnotes is too complicated. This one is perfect.

Is there a setting on paper not to move while writing ?
Turning on palm rejection and using the Zoom tool kind of help. That single bug has plagued the app for the longest time!
