been using goodnotes for quite a long time, they keep updating and adding new feature. salute to the team,
I prefer the GoodNotes look of the UI, but in features I prefer notability because it has a better recording tool and measuring tool, which I need for math.
for goodnotes you can actually tap the + two times for a quick note, almost like notability, just a tip from me
you can also open another note in a new tap exactly like notability, either by tapping the three dots and selecting split view or just dragging the app icon next to the other tap
plus you can share your documents as a pdf, so it’s easily readable for no goodnotes users
Great comment! That really shows off how close both apps are. There are workarounds for pretty much any limitation they have. Ultimately it's up to personal preference🙃
Also after editing or highlighting text on my pdf, it will save into the app and and we can access again from that app itself or like first we have to drag a pdf file download from web or telegram etc into notability/goognotes app then we can edit and reccess it fron there?¿
i use both. Goodnotes (one time purchase) for notetaking and planning. Notability (free version) for PDF annotation cuz it provides darkmoded PDFs, which makes it easy for my eyes.

So this has been me since day one both app came out I’ve been with both because I still see both give something different and I couldn’t give up one for the other. Mostly, I use GoodNotes to store all my books and the organization of that and then my notes are done on Notability especially because I use a lot of typing features, so good notes recently just added the better type in And copy and paste feature but it’s still not as good as notability, but not ability just had a update of but a week or two ago and it is the worst update it is crashing everything everything is freezing and glitching and actually for about a whole three months now not ability has been really horrible and I think I am literally about to switch fully took good notes now especially we could not having the recording. Finally now I am just so fed up with Notability.

I was an avid user of notability for YEARS. Then, I lost an important file not once but TWICE in 6 weeks in notability and had ro explore options. I put good notes on the back burner for years because of the laggy writing experience which also manipulated my strokes. Anyway, I gave good notes another whirl and man oh man!! Good notes has pulled ahead of notability bar none! I just wish GN had the same organizing style as Notability
I would argue that even without encurring any issues, sometimes it's just good to go out there and try out different software. Sometimes, we get so used to what feels confortable that we're missing out on something that's potentially even better 🙃

One comparison that is missing from this video is the zoom box for both apps. If you want to take a lot of notes with your own handwriting and have it be neat and compact, using a zoom box is very crucial. Here Notability wins hands down for me. When you use the zoom box in Notability, all of the writing tools are at the top of the zoom box in easy reach. In GoodNotes, no writing tools shift down to the zoom box. The writing in the Notability zoom box is instantly replicated in the note so you can see how well it looks. With Good Notes, each word pops in only when finish writing it & it is very clunky. Also, when having two notes open side by side in Notability, it is possible to jump back and forth and use a zoom box in each one. This is super helpful for neat writing within a smaller space.

Notability’s tape feature trumps the flash card feature imo. GoodNotes handles PDFs way better giving you a tab view. However GoodNotes is littered with bugs
You can share your notes in galery of notability and you can edit others notes so I think the winner is notability
You need to update this for the latest release from Notability is laggy and has made some negative changes to the user interface.

Hi Carl, yes! We chose silicone as the material because it simply feels good, is durable and resistant to dirt.

Agree with others - fab video and definitely showed me the pros and cons of each that apply to me. While I prefer the folder/accessibility of Notability, GoodNotes seems to be the best option for me (specifically for the inability to apply different templates to one document!)

What do u mean by inability to apply different templates to one document? I’m currently waiting for my ipad to arrive and am still contemplating between the two
For some reason goodnotes draws a few more millimeters after I remove the stylus. How do I get this out of the way? It really pisses me off. There is no such problem in notability, everything is 1 in 1 with the stylus. I have also seen this problem in onenote. Just because of this problem I want to switch to notability.
I prefer Goodnotes better for ease of use!
I have used both, notability was always amazing and I struggle to enjoy good notes cause I work as both as someone who teaches and is a student. If you are only a student, sure….
Like others, you did not mention one of the crucial features that Goodnotes provides. It allows you to copy from pdf texts and paste them somewhere else.
Notability can do that too tho
@@JowyCenatVlogs Nope, it doesn't as per the coping text. I just checked it in my free version, Notability did not have it when I had the subscription as well. Maybe you don't "EVEN" know the feature I am talking about just like the iPhone users don't "EVEN" understand the "pause feature" option while doing the video recording, you know you. Unless you show them a demo because they are completely naive and unimaginative of the outside of the box. And the funny thing is, no dumb liar RUclips tech reviewers show or compare those useful features, so people who are in the dark, always remain in the dark. And the companies know those types of people are the majority of the population so the companies make them fool confidently.

So in notability you can only write on pdf with the pen whereas in good notes you can copy and paste the whole text and make it like a document that you can edit?

the "import pdf" of notability is a minus from me because with goodnotes i can basically import any pdf file of any sizes into one
Does iPad need to have cell service in order for apps to work? Will it back up once on Wi-Fi?
All iPads work on Wifi 🙃
I think Goodnotes is more aesthetic, and look more complete. But, Notability has way more options and tools than Goodnotes, like dark mode, better PDF compatibility, all the pages are in the same size even if they are A4, letter, etc; also it has a ruler so you can make perfect angles. So Notability is so much better. I only think that the app need an interface redisign, that's it.
Hey Daniel, thanks for your comment! This actually goes hand in hand with the video's conclusion. Both apps are GREAT but depending on our personal preferences, and what we value the most, we'll prefer either one or the other... or just love and use both for different use cases 🙃
Goodnotes 6 have a problema with PDF text. The fonts shows problems when you skroll the page with the finger. All the text seems to change to darker, with distorted. Move the page and take off the fingers looking at the same word of the text. Come closer to the text. This is very bad!

You didn't mention linking notes, tagging notes, searching notes by tag. Are these not important?
The lack of iCloud syncing and the subscription pricing model are dealbreakers for me re Notability. And are why I’m going with Goodnotes.

I loved it until I lost my 3 hours of notes written on PC, next day I checked it and I saw the previous version of notes, someone know what could go wrong? Also, I see slow syncing when I change notes on my iPhone, I need to wait an hour or more to see the changes on another device, any advice?
I already moved my notes to google docs because of it, but if you can explain the case I will change my mind
On Goodnotes or Notability?
On thing about notability, if you want pretty notes, you can convert the text it’ll convert it in place. On goodnotes, you have to copy and paste it, and replace it with what you hand wrote… annoying

Notability wins for me because you only two-finger tap once to undo something as opposed to doing it twice in goodnotes, this saves me lots of time especially when I have to undo a lot of strokes
with gn6 now you can just scratch what you want to erase and continue on writing
The biggest feature you left out is the ability to record (Notability has this - GoodNotes does not). It is an amazing feature, especially for college students. I have used this feature for years and love it!
