I knew it was the tensioner pulley right after you said squeaky sound same problem with automobiles but great class for new people great vlog have fun and a safe 4th on the water this weekend
I love your videos, I have a similar engine , Volvo penta 5.7, dps a stern drive, you have saved me a lot of money, thanks and keep up the good work, regards from Miami 👍👍
I just bought a boat from a dealer. It's running well , but has the same squeak. I'll give it a go to see if it's the tensioner. Thanks! I'll check to see if you have the video on changing the tensioner .
90% it is the steering pump bracket that is bent, check the alignment of the pulley with a ruler against the other pulleys. Its a shitty design. You can weld some more on in to make it stronger and then try to chim it with some washers. New bracket is 390$ :(
I have the exact same issue on my 5.0 Volvo Penta dual prop, did you replace the entire tensioner assembly? Just the pulley? Did it fix the squeak? You’re leaving us hanging! Haha I’ve tried replacing my belt with no luck.
I had a grinding coming from my 4.3 and the voltage would drop at the same time. Swapped the alternator out, but thought that it could have been another part causing it, so maybe I jumped to conclusions. Then thought I should just do the water pump and power steering since it’s a boat and don’t want to be stranded, but feel the same as you with new parts, sometime the originals are better, so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Seems to have resolved, but we’ll see.
Hi Wayne. I have a volvo penta tern dr v6 280. I need ti reolace the starter hovewer the crrews are suoer right and there is no space to use an inpact gun. Are there any special tools to donthis job?
Hey wayne our 2014 bayliner 175 with a 3.0 mercruiser alpha one drive with 135hp has a squealing noise at around 3500rpm to 400rpm, not to sure what it is.
I bet if you would have sprayed water at any other contact point, the squeak would have gone away. My point is, just because the squeak stopped at the first contact point you selected, doesn't mean that is the problem. You need to spray some of the other contact points to verify, the squeak only goes away when spraying one location.

Thanks 👍 you too!
4.3GXi G and some others have had problems with the brackets on the power steering pump being bent and having the pullley misaligned.

I actually don't have a video on that - yet!
Thank you Wayne, I have the same issue on my 4.3 gxi .

I agree with you, if it isn't broken don't fix it. It cost enough to just keep it running.
If it aint broke!
Really
.helpful Wayne thanks. Jim UK
Glad it helped!!
Yes I did. But no space. A technician suggested to take the engine out. But I think that should not be necessary.

I hope you've got yours worked out!

I feel for you! Do you have enough room to try the double wrench trick?
Stick a hose in your ear and look for it with the other end or get an automotive stethoscope :) Works for bearings, belt squels and rattle noises etc.

At a higher RPM I personally would suspect one of the belt driven components (water pump, alternator, power steering). Good luck!
ok thanks@@WayneTheBoatGuy
Video on the "repair" ??

How much is a actuator for a mercruise 4.3 165
I only have this problem when I accelerate too fast, if I ease on the throttle I can get it up on plane but when I do it quickly it makes a big squeak
I wonder if that's the belt slipping - maybe the tensioner is weak.
@@WayneTheBoatGuy thank you for the advice
Boat- bust out another thousand
Belts should last at least 5 years. I would not replace it every year.
