Instead of converting all those SUVs to much heavier more expensive (rare metal) EVs with low ranges...Give us more AWD TDI estate choices please!
There are many reasons, but mainly its the fact, that they are not classified as cars, but as light trucks, therefore they dont have to adhere to stricked emission standards. There are many videos on youtube about this, for example from Not just bikes, or CityNerd..but basically, emission standards, and marketing. The car industry have persuaded americans it is the best car to have. I can't wait to get my hands on one, my current mk3 superb is my 4th superb in a row and my 9th Skoda in a row. The Superb in my opinion is absolutely unbeatable as a proper genuine all-rounder, one of the most well-engineered cars on the road from the 1st generation to now, it's hard to believe it's in it's 4th generation already and that not one of the latest 3 generations has been a retrograde step.
How did you fix your tablet on that dashboard? Oh wait, was that the factory-fitted, cost-effective infotainment screen? A cool, pleasant and well rounded review, nevertheless. In fact, I've just subscribed.
The tablet bolted on the dash is par for the course sadly.... the real atrocity is the design of the instrument cluster-f#$! ... not sure i could bear to look at thing the whole time.... why? Skoda, why?
I moved to the States from Europe like 10 years ago, therefore didn't really keep up with the latest designs from brands not sold here. But when I saw this interior it shocked me. Probably the ugliest most hideous one I've seen so far. And with current trends of bolting a discount electronics store pad on top of the dash is saying a lot.
I'm definitely getting old. Sat here on the sofa, with my two dogs, looking at a Skoda video, thinking '"I'll have one of them". I'd take the big boot, good economy, acres of passenger space and comfort, plus head up display, over a super car any day. Well except the 2 days of the year it's A) sunny and B) I've got the day to myself, then I'd have the super car.
Thanks for the review. Central armrest with height adjustment was much better in mk3. Sad to see it gone.. Were there air outlets in new armrest and glovebox? And also new instrument cluster looks so ugly. In central column there should be place for two smartphones side by side. Steering wheel should be changed to a modern (hexagonal-ish) design. I didn't like that the gear selector moved to stering column and thus everything moved to the left stick, especially new tiny wiper control. Central air vents and the grill design to the right side don't look nice. Mk3 interior design was way better.
I’ve got a 2018 L&K estate. (40k). Love it. I’ve been waiting for the new model but here’s my issue. Value of mine px £15k ish Price of a new one after equivalent extras £50k probably. I have to fork out £35k … I’m struggling to justify that. Question, is it that much better than mine?
As a long-time follower of Skoda's rally and road fortunes I'm glad to see them raking in the fantastic reviews. And this car, from what I've seen absolutely deserves all the accolades it gets.
It feels like Skoda could easily occupy the 'posh but understated' niche that Saab used to call their own, especially if they continue to make some discreet but properly quick ones. I'm sure there's plenty of folk out there with money, but for whom Merc and Audi are a little too shouty.
It's brilliant the way Skoda concentrate on small practicalities. They have got a bit pricey, however, but the Superb is still fantastic value compared with its VW and Audi stablemates. PS isso não é Ramsgate! 😆
It's genuinely refreshing to be driving a car that's got a bit of new tech, but isn't trying to be clever/screen heavy for the sake of looking 'modern'.
I'm kinda in progress of deciding which car to ask from company to get. Superb is on the list. But I think G31 LCI 530d is better value retaining car even though it would be used one. And more of drivers car. Any opinions about G31 LCI vs New superb?
I'm big fan of the Superb Estate. Best estate car out there. I have a Mk3 2016 L&K 280 4 x 4 Estate with 360bhp (a real Wolf in Sheep's clothing) & had a Mk2 170 Diesel before that. All new cars are too expensive which is why I buy mine at 2-3 years old for half the price when new & keep them for at least 6-8 years. Not sure about the front end styling of this new Superb & the lack of a full EV or a 300+bhp petrol detract from it's overall appeal somewhat. That said at least it's got buttons & a rear wiper which seem to be lacking on so many new hatches, estates & SUV's. One to watch as a 2nd hand buy in a few years time.
£40,000 GBP ($75,000 AUD) here in Au for the estate. Only petrol available (diesels stopped 2016). The only competition is the Citroen C5. That's it, no other estates under $80K. Sad in a land where estates (wagons) were everywhere. Now replaced with sh!tty SUV's full of Gov funded baby seats. 🙄
Used to have an SE Executive TDi Estate a while back. Have to say best car I’ve ever owned, amazing comfort and performance and of course the space is fantastic. Unfortunately it was stolen and never seen again!
Unsure what's Skoda's plan with the Superb e.g. is it only family oriented or will it keep the "sporty" look as it always had? If that's the case only let down for my taste is the DSG lever on the steering wheel....not sporty. I know you would tell me that Merc has it for years but not the cup of tea for everyone. Let's not simplify everything, let's keep the "gear change feel" on the central console. I like Merc but will never buy one just for the automatic lever. Thx for reading my post.
Locations for driving review were really confusing. Looked like driving on the right in Ramsgate and Margate. Strange Portuguese clip for the motorway - then the last comment Isso não é Ramsgate. Really weird - there must be a reason for that.
Surprised to see an english review on a czech car with czech plates haha, really cool (probably only to me since i'm czech, but oh well :) Great review!
Dad’s got the old 280, it’s my favourite car to drive if I’m pretty much only on the motorway. Would still stick to my E39 for twistier roads, but these Skodas are suuuuuuexcellent
I don't think there's such thing as 'too posh' in today's car market, everyone has gone into full consumerism, becoming 'SUV-on-Finance' types and the bigger and flashier the better. Gone are the days of being proud of your humble Polo for getting you from A to B. Everything is now built for style over longevity because of how prevalent the finance market is
Skoda really look good these last years, and people seem to buy them a lot. I especially like the Kodiaq. I just wander about the quality, especially on the long run. Does anyone have experience with it? I used to have a Felicia in 1998-99, and the quality wasn't the best. It would break down often. On the other hand, it was a cheap car, and this was more then 25 years ago.
We have 2 Skodas. My wife’s has a superb estate 250k on it and other than a passenger door harness fault(VW design issue). Mine a OCTAVIA 100k on it. Both 4th, fully loaded. Keep thinking of getting something far more expensive, but it’s a car it gets me from A-B so why change and throw money away. I’m 6 foot 3 and leg room in both is great for both driver and second row in both cars. Not the most stylish cars in the world, but it’s a car.
I'm not sure how the gear selector will work if you drive on hand controls 🤔🤷🏻♂️ I've got a 2020 L&K 2.0 Estate on hand controls and absolutely love it... Maybe I'll need a mutation and grow an extra arm for this one 😆🤣😆
This is what the new 5-series touring should have been. BMW, take note. The new škoda interior give me Ferrari 599 vibes in a good way. As a Czech national I am proud how far škoda has come with the release of this model.
I already have a Skoda Superb estate…….. we have a large dog so I will stick to estates (SUV not my cup of tea). I want to go up market for my next purchase so it looks like being the new Superb 😉
We've had 5 VWs over the past 20 years....but it's getting harder to justify buying any more, when today's Skodas are just as attractive and more reliable. VAG need to think what they're doing here !
I was with other journos at dinner last night (I only filmed this yesterday afternoon) and none of us could really think of a VW they'd buy over an equivalent Skoda.
I'm changing my car in 6 months, and I do like the look of the new VW Tiguan - but I reckon if I wait 12 months the Skoda equivalent will be out and be £7,000 cheaper ! @@TimRodieDrivesStuff
I got the 1 liter 3 pot Octavia after test driving the estate. Was really surprised. Great car and engine doesn't feel under powered at all (unless you want to drive like Colin McRae)
Wow T-Shirt weather 😂Škoda are really pulling out the stops 😮 The sleep pack seem like it’s designed, so Dads can take roundabouts at inappropriate speeds, without chucking the little angel’s heads about. Han💤 device?
Still prefer the smaller integrated LCD display in the outgoing model. Having a PC monitor on top of the dash is not my club of tea. I am on my second Superb (2023 SE L) DSG Diesel. The first one was a Superb Elegance DSG Diesel (2015 Euro 5). Had it for 8 years with no issue what so ever. An absolute reliable workhorse for long distance travel. Thanks to Mr. Khan, I had to change from Euro 5 to Euro 6 else I would still be driving the 2015 Superb. It is just superb.

I'm kinda in progress of deciding which car to ask from company to get. Superb is on the list. But I think G31 LCI 530d is better value retaining car even though it would be used one. And more of drivers car. Any opinions about G31 LCI vs New superb?
And now it's back on motability too! Love my Superbs!
Skoda smashing it
I'm big fan of the Superb Estate.
Yeah, think you’re right there..
Same here, I have Superb SE estate now and may well go for a two year old L&K 4WD next.
Looking at the stupid looking dial cluster tablet thing, unadjustable armrest and most buttons disappearing, I'm keeping my 2023 Superb
I mean, I definitely wouldn't sell a one-year-old car for one!
Thx for reading my post.
does 1.5tsi have dq200 or dq381?
13:10 stuck in traffic outside of ... what?
Why in 2024 are manufacturers still just sticking a screen on the vents. It looks so cheap. Is it really that hard to integrate it properly?
The boot cover is really new and it closes electronicaly with the boot.
This can even be seen in the video 😀
Locations for driving review were really confusing. Looked like driving on the right in Ramsgate and Margate. Strange Portuguese clip for the motorway - then the last comment Isso não é Ramsgate. Really weird - there must be a reason for that.
Hahaha! Ramsgate was looking oddly Portuguese for most of this
Surprised to see an english review on a czech car with czech plates haha, really cool (probably only to me since i'm czech, but oh well :)
Great review!
... and this review was made in Guincho (Cascais) Portugal! 😁
Hmm Skoda is no more Czech car, it has been bought by VW and it is created in same factory with Cupra, Audi, VW and Seat
Review was good. Car was good. I’ve subbed. 🎉
Thank you kindly!
Dad’s got the old 280, it’s my favourite car to drive if I’m pretty much only on the motorway.
Would still stick to my E39 for twistier roads, but these Skodas are suuuuuuexcellent
Are you sure that’s not ramsgate ?
I’m forever getting them confused
Hes filming this in my Home country, portugal ❤
And a beautiful country it is!
Would consider a new superb estate but not in L & K spec. I bet the sportline spec will look good.
L&K is a rare beast and pretty punchy in the price department - I'd go SE L with the 150hp diesel.
Only thing they could of done better is instrument cluster looks like it’s stuck on, not integrated properly. 🫤
The trend of sticking an iPad on the dash is terrible. That is what it looks like, and what BMW is doing is even worse.
Afterthought. I think it’ll really bug me looking at those top corners sticking out.
scout version of this would be perfect
There will be no scouts more! Asked today
I don't think there's such thing as 'too posh' in today's car market, everyone has gone into full consumerism, becoming 'SUV-on-Finance' types and the bigger and flashier the better. Gone are the days of being proud of your humble Polo for getting you from A to B. Everything is now built for style over longevity because of how prevalent the finance market is
According to the statistics, contrary to conventional wisdom though, the longevity is also getting better.
I certainly don't think cars rust like they used to (for the most part, anyway!)@@piotrwieczorek6588
The Price???????
Skoda really look good these last years, and people seem to buy them a lot. I especially like the Kodiaq. I just wander about the quality, especially on the long run. Does anyone have experience with it? I used to have a Felicia in 1998-99, and the quality wasn't the best. It would break down often. On the other hand, it was a cheap car, and this was more then 25 years ago.
Fancy Ramsgate for a holiday now…😀❤️👍
The custard tarts were great. Sorry, I mean jellied eels
Love the review! ❤
what price is the phev
TBC sadly!
Headup display in the windshield.. first time in a skoda.. my octavia would disagree.. climate buttons i do envy
You're absolutely right, I forgot the Octavia got it too.
Front grill "borrowed" from BMW?
From the good days of BMW design, I think
in india the sedan version costs usd$72500.
Hello, thats a 60,000 euros car in portuguese market, sure thing, great review, thanks
I don’t understand why they never do a superb VRS
1:58 bmw 5 series has a lenght of 5,06m . thats a huge different to 4,90m. so thats just not true
I own a mk 4 Octavia 2020 and that has the windscreen projected heads up display so this is absolutely not the first time on a skoda 🤔
The stop start feature should be something you have to turn on not off every time you turn the car on😡
You can get it disabled. Not expensive nowadays.
That's a very good point!
No Sportline trim level anymore? That's a shame, not everyone thinks that good looking equals chrome'y & fancy ( = Laurin & Klement)
It’s coming later!
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff Ah, superb!
That is not Ramsgate
😂
I don’t know why noise is ignored in these reviews. It’s a very important factor for long range driving.
The real HUD is not the first on a Škoda - it’s been on the Octavia for years.
Same for the sleep rear headrests by the way.
Yup, I forgot about that. I hadn't seen the headrets before!
This is what the new 5-series touring should have been. BMW, take note. The new škoda interior give me Ferrari 599 vibes in a good way. As a Czech national I am proud how far škoda has come with the release of this model.
I already own a superb but still I dream of buying new one.. That’s the beauty of Superb❤😅
First glance at the thumbnail I saw a BMW before they went completely fugly.
Funny. Exactly what i saw. BMW ten years ago!
:) pretty nice interior, with proper buttons and knobs.
When compared to the 2023 model L&K, I personally feel that the interior (dashboard) made a step back. It looks less "premium"...
I already have a Skoda Superb estate…….. we have a large dog so I will stick to estates (SUV not my cup of tea). I want to go up market for my next purchase so it looks like being the new Superb 😉
It's a shame they ditched the manual option in the new Superb
Crass and terrible metaphors....love it
I live to serve 🫡
It’s the same MQB platform and engine from the VW how can it be more reliable when it’s just a badge engineering exercise.
Love Skoda; not sure about the BMW- esque front grill however;
It's more bmw than bmw these days. Which means it's elegant.
Yeah, I'd argue Skoda are stealing the nice bits of design that BMW don't do anymore

That's not the UK, it's not raining🤔
Very entertaining reviewer. Great car.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Great car but it’s only going to have 2.0 under the bonnet at best. Needs the V6 back up front to feel genuinely luxurious
Haha, I once drove the Mk2 Superb with the 3.6 V6… around Rockingham race track. Best day ever
I went to the dealership planning by something similar (2.8 V6?) but ended up down the road with a C43 because of the 2.0 thing.
Erm.... without sounding weird and a little creepy may I say you are rather good at this car video stuff!
That's not weird or creepy! It's kind. And there's always room for more of that on YT! Thank you sir.
In a time with 1.0L 3 piston petrol engines, i think this car with a 2.0 diesel and 193 hp, it's perfect between sportiness and economy.
I got the 1 liter 3 pot Octavia after test driving the estate. Was really surprised. Great car and engine doesn't feel under powered at all (unless you want to drive like Colin McRae)
Wow T-Shirt weather 😂Škoda are really pulling out the stops 😮
The sleep pack seem like it’s designed, so Dads can take roundabouts at inappropriate speeds, without chucking the little angel’s heads about.
Han💤 device?
I read that as Hans Zimmer device. There's a crossover viral video the world needs
Most people who "need" an "SUV" really just need this
Did I hear ramsgate mentioned 👀👀😂
There are a lot of things that are just right about this car. Well done Skoda you sensible lot
isso não é ramsgate você careca tolo
8:29 Not powered by diesel !😂
Windmill power!
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff 😂
Looks pretty good to me - well worth a punt!
