Never understood the hate to having them on the Infotainment system; it looks much neater that way. And to be honest, just set them once; to whatever is comfy for you. Then you don't touch them again. Mine is set to 21C, rarely if ever change it and do so when I'm at the lights, you still need to look at physical buttons to see what your'e setting it to. And you still learn where the touch section is in time.
@@pl4819 I got that as a free option on mine; due to that my dealer couldn't match the price on a website, so he threw in the spare and 4 car mats instead; I was glad, Octavia doesn't usually come with a spare unless you fork over £180 (that was then (late 2020), don't know if it might have gone up by now).

The worst thing is that BMW have nobody but themselves to blame for their awful looking grilles. My understanding is they're doing it to appeal to the Chinese market, to appeal to a different aesthetic to EU buyers, mostly because BMW have about as much of the EU market as they'll ever have, so no growth potential here. It is kind of funny if that's true because rear seat legroom used to be, and probably still is a huge thing for Chinese cars, which is why Skoda took a Passat 20+ years ago, added a few cm to the wheelbase to make more rear legroom and sent it to China as the first Superb Limousine and discovered plenty of other people liked the idea too. Most cars can't comfortably seat actual adults in the rear at all.
Both the updated Octavia and Superb are much nicer, upscale, and modern cars. Way better than VW and other Germans, reasonable pricing, and superbly practical. Also love them for keeping estates alive. There aren't many affordable estates anymore.
its 38k euro base model 4.9 meter long car with 10 inch infotainment. its cheap and only when you understand this car on test is what, 50k euro that this is bullshit from Volkswagen again.
Have been watching your channel for around eight years, Lia brings a touch of real elegance and cheerfulness to your already excellent reviews. Congratulations Thomas.
I recently drove the new Superb and Passat back to back within a 1-day gap. Both had 1.5 MHEV TSI engines. Difficult choice indeed, they are so similar. But driving-wise the Passat was slightly better. It was quieter ( there was less engine noise in the cabin ) and the engine-transmission calibration/programming was smoother. Superb felt like it's lacking power in some low-speed scenarios. The storage lid on the left side of the cargo area had a better feel in the Passat and the spare tyre/tyre kit lid had a proper handle in the Passat instead of a small strap. In the end of the day I would pick the Superb personally because of the overall design and interior. Superb is slightly more practical because of the physical buttons. Oh, and the Passat also has an umbrella hole in the driver's door but it is empty of course.
The interior definitely looks beautiful and for those who lease and change cars every 3 years, will defo feel special. I do wonder how durable these cloth dashboards will hold up over time but overall, stunning.
Nothing special about a car with a fabric dash other than it is used by virtually no manufacturer (for good reason). I’m sure it would be a very cheap lease.
Not sure how durable it needs to be. Apart from an occasional light dusting, I don't think anything or anyone has ever touched the dashboard of any car I've ever owned.
I would be very interested in Superb vs Kodiaq. Two main contenders for me as a next family car. Engine choices are better in Superb, but there's way more space in a kodiaq. Configurator tells me that Superb is more luxurious.
Fun fact, I saw an i5 touring coming up behind me on the motorway today and until it passed me I thought it was a Skoda. I don't know if that means that Skoda has caught up or BMW has regressed, but I genuinely like what Skoda has been doing recently, they make fantastic cars

So, I thought would add a further comment. I have today been to test drive the new Skoda Superb 2024 with a view to buying one at the end of the test. It is a beautiful car and the electronics are incredible. Of particular note are the amazing travel assist functions which are simply outstanding - incredible road holding. I have already had 2 Superbs and am very familiar with them. My current one, which already has over 100,000 miles on it is only 3 years old and has the virtual cockpit and all the functions available at the time. Despite initial software problems, it is now a great car. So, what about the new one? Well, it is bad news frankly. I did not find the 'smart dials' that smart compared to the perfectly easy push buttons and dials I currently have. I did, however, like the map zoom function available on the centre dial. There are two things that are a massive downgrades from the previous model and are, for me, show stoppers. The minor one is the centre arm rest, which used to be very soft and very adjustable. The new one is very hard, uncomfortable and only opens along the centre - it is therefore not adjustable, which is very frustrating. It would not have stopped me buying the car ultimately, but it is way worse than what it replaces - why on earth would Skoda do that? However, the really big deal are the seats. I am 6 feet 2 in tall (around 188cm) and weigh over 110kg - yes, yes, I need to lose weight! Anyway, the original seats were such a selling point to me as they were just so wide and comfy - absolutely wonderful. The new ones are full of ventilation blah, electrics, massages etc. They are, however, 3-4cm thinner at the steering wheel end than the old ones. They therefore feel very uncomfortable and are jamming your bum in place rather than just letting you sit there comfortably. Try as I might, I could not get comfortable and have, extremely reluctantly, walked away. I have waited over a year for this and am absolutely dismayed that Skoda could have been so stupid as to put such terrible and uncomfortable seats in their top-of-the-range car when they had such good ones already. I turned up today to buy one, but have ended up walking away very disappointed. I have no idea now what car to buy next, but it will almost certainly not be another Skoda. Gutted.

Great to see another excellent review from Thomas and friend Leah. I currently have a 2021 Superb and have already done over 100,000 miles on it. The first 2024 RHD demonstrator has arrived in the UK and I will be doing a much-anticipated test drive next week. I have been looking at alternatives to the Superb, including the BMW 5 Series, but it is almost impossible to find any other car with all the features of the Superb without paying £30k more. Although I have had significant software problems with my current Superb, they are all resolved now. I see this new one has some software snags too! I will be really interested to see if the 2024 model is good enough to tempt me to buy another one. My main disappointment with the new one is the arm rest that seems so much less comfortable and user-friendly than the current one. Other than that it look a winner.

Great review Thomas! Credit to VW for what they’ve achieved with the Skoda brand. The superb is a fine machine and I love their attention to detail. Very practical and smart.
The limousine for sure, much more elegante and more as enough space in the booth. But I already have the suberb3 limousine, the exterior looks like a big facelift. The interior is completly different.
This much car at this price, finished to this standard, makes you question why anyone would buy anything else. For those who don’t want to pay an SUV or brand premium and want a large, comfortable car for long journeys - this must be the rational choice.
If it weighs under 2 tonnes and isn't actively designed to kill pedestrians it's not welcome in the US 😞. A RUclips channel called 'Not Just Bikes' made a fantastic video a while back charting the history of the SUV and the massive damage it has done, especially in the US where most manufacturers aren't even making cars now. Pedestrian deaths are back to 1970s levels, as are fuel economy figures, because when US car makers failed to lobby fuel economy laws away, they moved to making 'light trucks' and marketing them to people who actually wanted cars, as the economy rules didn't apply to trucks.
First time i heard about the option to pay extra for a rear wiper. Lovely car, one of my current favourite cars :) Thank you for the video^^ And if this would come with an electric version, like a ID.7 counterpart, this would be amazing :D
Looks better, also more user friendly interior; but build quality is still not quite as good. VW Group for some reason always give the Skoda models slightly worse suspension tuning and soundproofing so the Passat is still nicer to drive.
Maybe Skoda actually listen to their customers rather than trying to tell their customers what they should want. There's no way those stupid capacitative buttons on the steering wheel would have ever passed real world customer feedback. And any car without simple things like a volume control knob in plain view on the radio will lose fans too.
The low drag and hatch might actually win me over. How much would you save in fuel annually as an average driver? I'd mostly be throwing in bikes and that could be not much worse with the hatch?
The best thing about Skodas is that the hatch is the same length as the estate, so you have nearly 2 m of space behind the front seats with the back seats folded down. If you carry the bike fully assembled (Which is not a problem in the estate), you might find the handlebars get in the way of closing the hatch because of the lower height there. As for fuel, if there's a difference of 0.1 l/100km between them, you'll have to drive 1000 km to save a liter of fuel. My record (In a Mk2 Superb estate is 3 bikes, 3 people and a full set of camping gear for everyone, all in the car without anyone being squeezed). The bikes did have wheels removed though.
This, in estate form, will be high on my list if the 13 year old Superb estate I already have ever dies (And it's showing no sign of it yet). The only obvious downgrade on this from the Mk2 is the rear seat armrest, where depending on your height you'll be dinging your elbow off the cup holders when the car hits unexpected bumps. The Mk2 cup holders pop out of the front of the arm rest, so it can still be used as an armrest while holding drinks. It also has a storage compartment I've never used... The front arm rest isn't height and reach adjustable either come to think of it, and that would probably annoy me more.
Very informative video. On search for a new company car, and regarding space, vw passat and skoda superb are really good competitors/alternatives for the likes more expensive merc e class , bmw 5, audi a5 etc. You mention the user interface being something different between vw and superb. But I guess, it would be much worth it to just compare the two in a different video perhaps? More fun would be to compare drive from the expensive mercs and bmw ;)
Why won’t vw let them make a superb vRS estate with a 2.5 tsi they let cupra use it why can’t Skoda use it and make one of the greatest modern practical sports cars
Fingers crossed 🤞🏼, hoping they will establish a new assembly line in Aurangabad. It will be much more cost-efficient for the desired customers. If they opt for CBU, it could be a huge disaster for them here in India.
Another great review Thomas. I actually own a 2017 Superb (sedan / liftback / hatch) and I have the Sunroof fitted on mine. From all the pictures / reviews I see of the new Superb I do not see any Sunroofs. Is it an option or has it been deleted on the Sedan? As I have seen it on the new Combi / Wagon.
Would love to see these with a 3l and a 4l petrol/benzine options. So I can afford one in about 10 years... Thanks Autogefühl, and thanks Thomas, the whole family loves your very Deutsch reviews!
It is DCC worth it ? I have the 2022 superb and I cant say I feel any difference between normal and confort mode. It is a difference when moving to sport mode, but I wonder if Skoda make any dcc improvement at this new model. In terms of price it would be an extra 1K euro. Didnt drive this model, some say DCC is better now, some say you can live without it.
The key question was asked at the beginning which is why you might need a BMW M5 when you can have one of these. The answer can only be the BMW badge is too important for your self esteem. Before too much longer people are going to judge that premium car emperor is out of clothes.
BMW M5 exists for purposes which no Skoda Superb will ever be able to fill. 😅 The regular BMW 5 Series on the other hand, that is a much nicer car to be in, but it's your decision if it's worth it to spend the extra money.
@@sbstn110 Quite right to correct me about the M5. The 5 series is what I was trying and failing to comment on. My point is I wonder what you get for the extra money apart from the badge. There are still some things which the 5 series has which the Skoda does not but it is becoming harder to detect, and harder to detect whether it is worth the extra money. The wider point is whether the premium brands can flee to ever more expensive luxury and still sell cars before we see through the illusion. I think we are close to the point where we will stop buying because we do not need it.
@@PaulMeier-cu3ds it is harder now to justify the extra money compared to previous generations, but there are drivers who only want RWD or a rear biased 4WD. Also, there's the option for larger engines, better gearbox, better sound insulation, better materials, better technology, better quality overall. Truth is you'd be paying 50-100% more for 10-50% improvements in most aspects, but there's the option available if you want it. It's understandable if the Superb meets all the needs, but it's also understandable if you want something more.
The funny thing is where I live second hand Passats are cheaper than similar age and mileage Superbs, because the Superb has a better reputation for reliability even though mechanically they're mostly the same car.
I'm interested to see if they do a Scout version. The only features some SUVs offer that would come in useful is more ground clearance than other cars and 4WD.

Thanks for the feedback!
News moves quick but autogefühl move quicker 😂 but for real, it’s impressive how quickly you can film and upload content!!
🙌🙌
The three knobs on the front, such a rustic look and feel to them ! Very nice.
Hi, Thomas i have to admit the people at skoda have done a good job the new skoda superb!
i just bought one after i've watch your video,i was having an octavia 2018 and i was looking for the new one but i think for me and my familly is better a superb,my spec 2.0l tdi 150ps,nothing fancy but it get the job done.Thank you for yor review
Cheers! Enjoy!
Great review Thomas! Credit to VW for what they’ve achieved with the Skoda brand. The superb is a fine machine and I love their attention to detail. Very practical and smart.
The Scrolling indicators on the rear should also be on the front indicators
Wow! This is much smarter than anything VW is doing lately. Really well done interior, wish they sold it here in Brasil!
I’m amazed by how the digital cockpit was made- square display and oval upper cover. Didn’t put the effort to change it after the facelift
One of my most favorite sedan lift backs.
The limousine for sure, much more elegante and more as enough space in the booth. But I already have the suberb3 limousine, the exterior looks like a big facelift. The interior is completly different.
From Kyoto,Japan. We enjoyed !!!!!!!
Superb in hatch body?! YES!
Love the fabric interior!
How much difference is there in noise levels on the motorway compared to a VW Passat?
I'm 45 and can remember how Skoda was year ago before VW got it 😆
This much car at this price, finished to this standard, makes you question why anyone would buy anything else. For those who don’t want to pay an SUV or brand premium and want a large, comfortable car for long journeys - this must be the rational choice.
I really like this shape, much prefer a liftback to a sedan.
How would you compare the driving comfort and soundproofing between the new Superb and new Kodiaq?
Wish Skoda vehicles were available in the USA. They seem like great value for the money, and they are quite stylish.
And reliable my 2016 octavia 2.0 tdi with 270000 km with zero problems
If it weighs under 2 tonnes and isn't actively designed to kill pedestrians it's not welcome in the US 😞. A RUclips channel called 'Not Just Bikes' made a fantastic video a while back charting the history of the SUV and the massive damage it has done, especially in the US where most manufacturers aren't even making cars now. Pedestrian deaths are back to 1970s levels, as are fuel economy figures, because when US car makers failed to lobby fuel economy laws away, they moved to making 'light trucks' and marketing them to people who actually wanted cars, as the economy rules didn't apply to trucks.
great review as always Thomas, looking forward to the vRS Octavia review when they launch it later in the year.
That's my next car, the Superb SE L 1.5 Petrol (150PS) with Dynamic Chassis Control and 360 degree area view cameras.
beautiful location Thomas, Goethe's viewpoint
First time i heard about the option to pay extra for a rear wiper. Lovely car, one of my current favourite cars :) Thank you for the video^^ And if this would come with an electric version, like a ID.7 counterpart, this would be amazing :D
cheers!
This looks better then the VW Passat haha, how is this possible.
Looks better, also more user friendly interior; but build quality is still not quite as good. VW Group for some reason always give the Skoda models slightly worse suspension tuning and soundproofing so the Passat is still nicer to drive.
@@Swiss4.2 Skodas always got thier simply clever touch on their cars ❤️
Fantastisches Auto. Gut gemacht Skoda.
I have a 7 series, I prefer this superb, seriously much more practical back seat set up with head rests blanket etc very useful. Great work SKODA
Stop lying 😂
This, in estate form, will be high on my list if the 13 year old Superb estate I already have ever dies (And it's showing no sign of it yet). The only obvious downgrade on this from the Mk2 is the rear seat armrest, where depending on your height you'll be dinging your elbow off the cup holders when the car hits unexpected bumps. The Mk2 cup holders pop out of the front of the arm rest, so it can still be used as an armrest while holding drinks. It also has a storage compartment I've never used... The front arm rest isn't height and reach adjustable either come to think of it, and that would probably annoy me more.
are they finally upgraded seats? is there knee holder now?
Very informative video. On search for a new company car, and regarding space, vw passat and skoda superb are really good competitors/alternatives for the likes more expensive merc e class , bmw 5, audi a5 etc.
You mention the user interface being something different between vw and superb. But I guess, it would be much worth it to just compare the two in a different video perhaps? More fun would be to compare drive from the expensive mercs and bmw ;)
👍👍
I really don’t understand why it’s not available in plug in hybrid
Why won’t vw let them make a superb vRS estate with a 2.5 tsi they let cupra use it why can’t Skoda use it and make one of the greatest modern practical sports cars
Great video
It"s a very beatiful car!!! Thanks for review!!!
Amazing car, would gladly buy combi version. Even my octavia have felt i front and rear doors.
Leaking front lights? Have they fixed them? Or at least have they made the replacement front lights any cheaper?
Interior could've been done better, It would look and feel amazing in White trims
Absolutely can’t wait for the India Launch with L&K variant with European tyre profile provided.
@@darthvader_donovan I'm afraid it'll only be a CBU import
Fingers crossed 🤞🏼, hoping they will establish a new assembly line in Aurangabad. It will be much more cost-efficient for the desired customers. If they opt for CBU, it could be a huge disaster for them here in India.
Is the sunroof also available with the sedan or is it just for the combi?
At this moment just for the combi indeed
Another great review Thomas. I actually own a 2017 Superb (sedan / liftback / hatch) and I have the Sunroof fitted on mine. From all the pictures / reviews I see of the new Superb I do not see any Sunroofs. Is it an option or has it been deleted on the Sedan? As I have seen it on the new Combi / Wagon.
Indeed so far only on the Combi!
Thanks m8!
Few continuity issues with the jacket. 😂
Very clean designe, great as always skoda simply clever!!
Very nice, seems better value than a 5 series too
Would love to see these with a 3l and a 4l petrol/benzine options.
Didnt drive this model, some say DCC is better now, some say you can live without it.
yes it has now 2-valve-DCC system
I love the sedan version ❤
Will it be electric ? Like i5 if not THEN ITS not a Match for 5 series bmw
Toyota can't even dream of making a car this good.. far superior..
You are Perfect!
Škoda pronunciation is Shkoda. "Sh" as shut, sharp, shape ... etc. Š = sh.
👍
The key question was asked at the beginning which is why you might need a BMW M5 when you can have one of these. The answer can only be the BMW badge is too important for your self esteem. Before too much longer people are going to judge that premium car emperor is out of clothes.
BMW M5 exists for purposes which no Skoda Superb will ever be able to fill. 😅
The regular BMW 5 Series on the other hand, that is a much nicer car to be in, but it's your decision if it's worth it to spend the extra money.
@@sbstn110 The inside of the new 5 is disgusting... as is the outside come to think of it.
Or if you want rear wheel drive.
@@sbstn110
Quite right to correct me about the M5.
16:58 Oh a new beard cam :-D I love it.
😂
Nice wallpaper picture in your mobile phone 😁
Is that a joke?!
Peugeot gt plug in hybrid is much better 225 hp or 360 hp in pse ❤❤
I like liftback
This Skoda looks like the luxury version of VW
I’m kinda surprised there getting away with the front end but it looks nice 💀
Superb liftback 😊
Im worried about screen, in new kodiaq its HUGE, like i have macbook on my dash...can we get chance to see 10 inch acreen?
Sadly this brand don't sell in Brazil😢
why they don't sell it in the US?
Skoda is slightly cheaper, nicer looking and has nicer interior design than the new passage. I would happily get this over the passage every day
The funny thing is where I live second hand Passats are cheaper than similar age and mileage Superbs, because the Superb has a better reputation for reliability even though mechanically they're mostly the same car.
That grey seat material looks terrible - just like my grandmother's sofa. Then add a grey blanket ....blah!
You should have reviewed the L&K model never mind still the perfect review 👌🏼
I'm interested to see if they do a Scout version. The only features some SUVs offer that would come in useful is more ground clearance than other cars and 4WD.
Does this Super have double glas (as the new Passat does)?
Simply SUPERB.
Can't wait for the combi driving review.
