It’s kind of funny that Mr Jimmy has obviously been told to dial down the Page-isms in Jasons band. When you see him in his own Zep tribute band it’s uncanny!
I used to go watch that at "Midnight Movies" in NYC. Always loud and fun! For years that was played. It's actually a miracle it's as good as it is, considering how botched it was during shooting.

The drums just didn't have the "BONZO" vibe. As a 72 year old drummer, I consider myself a purist when it comes to "reproducing" a certain sound, the kick drum lacks the THUD you'd hear from what was used in the original composition. If you want to COPY Zeppelin, Zeppelin equipment is necessary!
I saw the Jason Bonham band at a bar on 6th St. in Austin called Babe's. So good. It was their first Album called the Disregard of timekeeping. Very good album, great show. They also played Black Dog at some point. It was so cool.
That's cool. I remember buying that album when it first came out. There was a lot of hype about it at the time but then it didn't do that well. I think people expected his band to be like Zeppelin? Why? He's his own person. Like Wolfgang Van Halen. He has made some great songs, but he is not his father and his music is go-to be his own. But both of them can play their fathers parts perfectly. Well that's a tough set of shoes to fill, but can't argue. Plant had his own rough outings. Singing like that and touring the way they did tore his vocal chords up.
These guys do an amazing job but am I the only one to notice it took more than 1 person to replace John Paul Jones ?? He was truly the glue that held them together and put together most of their arrangements.
JPJ was an amazing musician! Hard to get any attention when your band mates are Page, Plant & Bonzo! And bass players (and keyboardists) never get much attention anyways.
I play guitar at 64 and I wanted to be Jimmy Page at 15 when I first started playing ( Ted Nugent concert got me playing ) Favorite song and almost impossible to play .
Sakurai is absolutely phenomenal. People that don't get it, don't get it. There is no doubt to me that there are times he surpassed Page if we were to compare live recordings. Especially from the 75 tour. The entire band was struggling at one point. There were times Bonzo didn't play his solo, Jimmy was doing minimal soloing and they were doing 2 hour shows instead of their legendary 3 to 3-1/2. But nobody can be perfect every night with what they were doing! So yeah, I agree. The JBLZE experience is one of the most underrated shows around. There are some other really good tribute bands, but JBLZE is a step above, and not just because it's Bonzos son.

They were trying to keep up with the kids when the fashion was wam bam 50s rock and roll 3 min song style , going against the indulgence and pomp that was infecting rock at the time. The difference between the imitator and jimmy page and zeppelin is zeppelin created this music, which always implies obstacles which any creator is destined to suffer, where the imitation is doing something already established. Zeppelin is solidified today but at the time the critics didn’t like them, fans at times didn’t support their changes (zeppelin III sold poorly at first), and they were young men still maturing. Mr jimmy is over 50, he has command of himself. A 25 year old doesn’t.

Punk was back to basics pure energy in small accessible clubs, and was a welcome relief from the bloated crap some bands were pushing out. Led Zep ‘4’ was untitled to piss off all the critics. So as you say, they didn’t have it easy. This guy is amazing isn’t he ?

@@SpagzActually 75 the band was fantastic live... Zep never played under 2 hours till 80 & that was like 1hour /57 minutes. Shorter shows as they became the biggest band EVER in the beginning also .
I haven't heard about the Blackmore guy but Mr. Jimmy has been around for a long time doing this. There is a documentary movie on him that was just released yesterday in select theaters. He has spent his whole life on this. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

I was like, who is he??? He said "he's like a countrified Jimmi Hendrix". I have never forgotten that description, because it was perfect. Sweet Little Thing was on MTV and that was ALL I knew of his playing. I was blown away. He was soooo damn good. Sadly, that was the only time I saw him live. Thanks man.
@@Spagz I saw an SRV / Jeff Beck double bill in Minneapolis. I needed ear plugs for Jeff Beck and didn't have them. It was in an auditorium and I was not used to seeing rock shows. I went to a lot of Windham Hill new age type concerts in the 80's and the sound was always the perfect volume. Probably my favorite sound experience was seeing a guy named Andreas Vollenweider live. I imagine few have heard of him, though some of his youtube video's have millions of views.

I just listened to it through my car stereo. It sounded OK to me overall. I mean it's a cell phone camera/mic so... A lot of rock boils down to the blues, even if on a superficial level it may not sound like it. Take the Beatles' instrumental, "Flying," from Magical Mystery Tour. It may sound like a psychedelic circus song, but it's actually a basic twelve-bar blues. Or Pink Floyd's "Crazy Diamond." It may stretch out the form quite a bit, but it is another great original blues in the rock canon.

@@chebrneck I know that's how Jason found him because he mentions it. Otherwise I would not have known. I know what you mean though. Part of it may just be the amount of shows they do. They play quite often from what I understand. I think there are 2 performers in a band who have physically demanding jobs that can wear out from playing too much. Different kind of physical of course, but the singer and the drummer. Especially as we age. Plant struggled with it for sure, as young as he was. Bonzo didn't seem to, but he had superhuman energy. 🤣 The toll it took on him was mentally.
Agree! Dee Snider was pretty good too. To me, this band is all bout Mr. Jimmy and Jason. But the singer does a decent job, often excellent depending on the song.
Imagine spending your entire life trying to become someone else. I read an article about this guy and I think it's the most pathetic thing I've ever heard. So sad.

In 73 when it came out Zep didnt tour. The song remains the same was in theaters with big ass speakers, a total hit and epic video still today.

Agree! Dee Snider was pretty good too. To me, this band is all bout Mr. Jimmy and Jason. But the singer does a decent job, often excellent depending on the song.
Imagine spending your entire life trying to become someone else. I read an article about this guy and I think it's the most pathetic thing I've ever heard. So sad.
I don't see it that way at all, but I do understand your way of seeing it. I know how it makes me feel when he plays and that's what I find to be the opposite of sad. He seems happy. Thanks for watching and commenting.
