It's less that it's been overshadowed by the A-10, and more that the edge has been taken out of it by them prematurely adding some of their most interesting vehicles into other trees. If this was the first time seeing the Merkava, there would be loads of hype, but we've already had three of them in game for a whilst now, plus the shot cal.
The whole Merkava thing is kinda good though as the first one was an event vehicle if I'm right and the second one sits as a premium.

@@pz.vincesiqueiros7185 I've always like the mekarvas irl, own the American ones and needed a new tree to grind to get back into the game, so personally I'm fine with them and looking forward to the new tree. But doesn't change the fact that it's likely the main reason there's much less hype for the Israel tree than there should be.
Most of the people who would be hyped for Israel would have been so for the medieval, since it's their most unique vehicle, but will have either already played at least one of them, won't be in a position to start the Israel tree, or don't have the time to grind out the merkava any time soon.

@@MrEsphoenix This is True, but the Merkava Mk 4B and 4M are still great additions and the Magach series and Shot Kal series are still quite interesting, even if 2 of them have been in other trees they’re still quite different and a nice change of pace compared to the tanks in the other trees that have been there for years (minus Sweden, although by this point it’s been quite a while since Sweden was added).
Former Mk.2b tanker and current MK.3 on reserve here.
The .50 cal was beeing controled by the loader inside the tank via cables and in recent years (Merkava 2b and on) by the gunner by electric mechanism. No one will want to sit on the top of the turret belive me.

People underestimate the value of machine guns until they’re bailing out of a tank.
The extra space, assuming you didn’t take a ton of ammo, in the back of the Merkava is genius, since crews can be rescued by friendlies while being covered by the absurd number of MGs

In the middle of designing some historical tank, one of the designers suddenly perks up and starts doing random sketches on the back of a blueprint.

Who uses more than thirty shots in a battle anyway? The armour is all about angles, placement, and little add-ons to defeat HEAT and HE, also all steel is the same. They already have a high velocity 60mm in game, so if it doesn't have thermals, it could totally work at like 6.3, 6.7

"Batash" is a Hebrew acronym for "day-to-day security" - effectively policing the West Bank and other borders against terrorists. Thus it should be no surprise that the Gal Batash is specifically built to withstand HEAT, since it is not expected to go up against enemy tanks at all. I doubt it'll do very well at 9.3. We'll see.

Finally they did what I was hoping they would for nations that don't really have any WW2 vehicles. Just start them out at a higher BR instead of doing reskins of M18 and greyhounds and other annoying low BR things!
Sure, but I mean imagine genuinely wanting to skip the most interesting parts of this game, everything passed 6,7 is just click on tanks or click and follow tanks with atgms. Wouldn’t it have just been better to just not add these nations in the first place? I don’t know, at least the wire half track is interesting.
@@Teatime-uj7dl I completely agree, 6.7 is pretty meh, and anything above it is just terrible, so I definitely won't be touching this nation. But it's still nice that they didn't add more copy paste things just to flesh it out.

Weird that they don't have the M-50. Basically the Sherman with the gun of the Panther. Also, the ishermans used two engines, first the continental engine, with them later using a Cummings diesel engine (partly due to diesel being more resistant to exploding and catching fire).
The M-50 is in the french tree as the (SA50) Sherman
Or the M60 Sherman with the 60mm APFSDS same gun as on the Aubl74.. But once again gaijin have added the bare minimum, to a brand new tree.
Zafran Orbian is correct. The M-50 (Super Sherman) is an M4A4 with the French SA50 gun from the AMX-13. It was only ever used by Israel, but since they already put it in the French tree, well, you know Gaijin.

Day 19: Phly you should play the Strv M-42 DT. It has a 3.8 second autoloader with 5 shells, the turret traverse is great, and its surprisingly survivable
Plus the APHE can pen pretty much anything from the front at its br (except for those damned jumbos)

Hey Phly, the reason the Gal Batash has 1860 horsepower, is because you had it set to arcade battles and not realistic battles. 😂
True story: I was in the IDF reserves in 2002, when Israel went into Jenin to uproot the terrorism infrastructure there in response to the Passover seder suicide bombing that killed 30 people. "Fun" fact, my avatar here was from a photograph taken a few days before that bombing, and is a photo of me carrying a Browning 0.5cal HMG; my left arm muscles were trembling for days afterwards.
Anyway, as a combat engineer assigned to M113 APCs, we were part of the armor and SPAA columns that entered Jenin. The armor was there to, err... tank. -_- The SPAA was there because they had the vertical elevation to target higher floors of buildings even if we were right alongside it. And we were there because if anything like a machine gun or smoke launcher got knocked off the hulls of the other vehicles, we could drive over to it, open the rear personnel hatch a sliver, stick out an arm, and pull the thing inside with minimal exposure to danger. We also occasionally had to transport specialized squads running door-to-door operations, so I guess we were more than just vacuum cleaners... we were wheelbarrows, too!
We camped out in an abandoned schoolyard during the operation, which was fairly secure except for being overlooked by the empty shell of a ~15 storey, under-construction (bare concrete, no windows or paint) office tower. A sniper up there would have had a field day. To dissuade anyone from thinking that would be a Good Idea™, it was decided to fire a few good bursts from the Hovet SPAAs into the (again, empty!) upper floors of the tower. I happened to be standing about 5m away from the SPAA when it let loose, and it took my breath away. I can't think of a better way to describe it than that it just sounded like the world's largest zipper. You couldn't distinguish the sound of individual rounds, or even that there WERE individual rounds. It was just.... BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!
Day 151: Phly, you should play the Hawk III Chinese fighter; 900lbs of bombs in a biplane at 1.0 that you can dogfight in after dropping. Totally balanced.

no phly the Batash has 1061 hp, you where reading AB stats. (4:25) here you can see the RB stat of the engine power.
Correction: The Gal Batash only has 1200 hp, for some reason the dev server always shows stat cards with Arcade Battles stats.
honestly I logged into the dev server to see so many new vehicles. i was surprised to see this many, Sweden's new helicopter line, an Israeli line, a few boats that some people will enjoy using. LAV-AD and a-10. in my opinion war thunder really didn't give a lot of important information when revealing a new update. the teaser should've focused the adding of Israel with a Swedish helicopter somewhere and at the end the A-10 to finish it off.

I have the premium M-51 and I just love it. It is a true Tiger killer at it's BR. Jagdpanthers, Panthers, King Tigers - as long as the angle is not too much, they're frequently one-shotted and the M-51 has a decent hull-down stance. It's one downside is it's vulnerability so you definitely have to be selective and crafty in your battles.

its an ATGM carrier that looks like a tank from a bird's view. its meant to look like that to fool enemies into thinking its a tank with low range, than surprise then when all of a sudded it fires long range SPIKE ATGMs.
we are more likely to see the hafitz before the pereh, the hafitz is an M113A2 fitted with 6 SPIKE launchers and extra armour.
Those kind of IR aa missiles work better from behind. Infrared read aspect. Being infrared the majority of the heat is coming from the engine, and rear aspect from the rear of the plane. That is what I have found with these kind of missiles anyways from test drives. They will lock head on but don't hit, as it seems like it is going to the heat trail as opposed to the actual plane. Where as from behind will it's going right for the engine.
Id love to see the M109A6 Iraq War version in that tech tree id totaly go for it since its the better version of the Type 75 in the Japanese Tech tree

the centurion is painted that way so when it flies overhead it is harder to spot with spot lights.
Btw you were close ish when it came to the Tiran 45, its a Chinese/Russian tank the Type 62, its got that weird shaped turret.
Phly , if you get the time can you please play the AM-1 Mauler and the M18 "Black Cat" , it's a monstrous duo , the AM1 has a huge payload and the M18 is a speedy boi and "Speed is king" in WarThunder.

3:23 the way that the 50 would be controlled is from inside the turret. a string is attached to the trigger goes in through the loaders hatch and when u want to fire it u aim with the main gum and pull the string
Yes, not a single Israeli MG mounted ontop of their MBT and other tank's guns/rifles, was remote. Some had to get out and sit behind it, or lie down on the turret roof behind it.

That 150mm of extra RHA on Magach 6B Gal Batash is not a simple push over, the frontal turret arc it can actually shrug of top tier APFSDS fired from 1500m away. In one occasion my M60A3 gun mantlet deflected 3BM60 from from 2500m away, sometimes even my CM11 turret front survived a direct hit from DM53 due to steep angle.
It looked as if all of the Israeli tanks that were from other nations had stronger engines. I know the magach 1 has a substantially better engine then the m48.

Doesn’t the merkava also have a mortar install in the roof how’s that going to work?! Make it shoot smoke rounds only instead of he rounds or just you not being able to use the mortar at all
Its cool to see all functionalities of a vehicle working, but some things are just too much broken. Imagine you being able to easily kill someone behind a cover with your mortar
on all other merks it's just a smoke launcher deployment (which is realistic and one of its primary purposes)

the Gal Batash is comparable to the TTD. the TTD has 585mm of NERA on the turret and the challenger 1 has 300mm. the challenger 1 turret gives ~450mm of protection (against kinetic) and the TTD turret provides ~360.
@PhlyDaily I found this link about to a plastic model review site about the Tiran 4S I think it would be useful for to you on the info about it. A quick Summary is that it's a modified T-54/55 Tank that was captured during the Arab/Israeli War. The Israeli's captured large amount of soviet tanks and modified them for their own use.

The M-51 Sherman's powered by the Cummins diesel engine were the fastest Sherman tanks ever built. Yes, it has only 460hp, but torture ratings were over 1000 lbft. Too give you an idea of how significant that is, the trucks that haul tens of thousands of pounds of goods across nations have engines with similar output, 400-500hp, but 1000+ lbft of torque. They go down the highway at 70mph just fine.
The M-51 Sherman's top speed was 65mph (107kph), and anywhere from 40-70kph off-road depending on the ground. Obviously dirt would be on the higher end of the speed spectrum, sand lower. Given most maps in WT are presumably dry, compact dirt environments, we could expect 70kph (roughly 43mph) top speed.
The M-51 Super Sherman's are woefully slow when compared too their real life counterparts.

Another isherman variant the Israeli's experimented with was one that was designed to have a lower profile. It literally looks like they cut the top of hull off and put the turret back on what remained.
The Tiran series of Tanks are captured Soviet Tanks that are put into Israeli service. Although Israel never bought from the USSR, it's enemies did and over the many conflicts Israel has fought with it's neighbors, it had acquired a lot of captured Soviet Hardware, Tanks included. The number refers to the original tank, with the letters referring to the version. Tiran 4, 5, and 6 is the Israeli designation for the T-54, T-55, and T-62 respectively. They initially were put into service as is but was upgraded with additional things like stowage tanks, jerry cans, new fenders and a different loaders hatch, but the later models changed the armaments to their Western equivalents, with the M68 cannon(found on the M60 series and M48A5) and M1919A4 replacing the D-10T (or U-5TS on the T-62) and PKT respectively. The captured Russian tanks were given to reserve units and I am not certain if they saw action with Isreal. Isreal ended up selling some of their Tiran-5Sh to Uruguay. By this point, the TIran tanks have been retired.

Not sure if you're aware of this but just because 2 guns have the same caliber doesn't mean they use the same ammunition. The French 105 used on the M-51 has a much lower velocity then the 105 used on the m-60 /Leopard/centurion.
I'm mostly worried that these tanks will just bully soviet german and American heavies with the insane pen heat at low br the premium sherman can already no brain pen the front of a tiger 2 at any range and it needs to be uptiered to see it

kinda disappointed tbh. they could've easily started the tree a rank or two lower with things like the M10, Cromwell, various M4s and captured russian equipment. there'd also be plenty of SPAA to pad it out. also missing the M50 currently, which i hope is added. other than that, please god please let the repair costs be normal

You have to play those things anyway in different tech trees just to be able to play this tech tree anyway.
Well since I was a crewmember on a M1A2 Abrams I will say that they were actually 72 tons with the latest variant being 73 tons due to upgrades
Its weird they did not transfer over the Merkava 3 from the American tech tree over to the Israeli one. The Merkava 4 has had significant armor improvements over the 3, thus explaining why some shots will penetrate the 3 and not the 4. The hype will be real when they introduce the Merkava 4m, which will likely sit at a BR of at least 10.7 if not 11 because it has the trophy APS. Cant wait until these vehicles are released in full into the game.
You know what else is modern? Then f5 as a dedicated air superiority fighter (you should do that)

One thing I am glad at is that Gaijin did understand why the Merkava's are built the way they are, and at the very least made them somewhat survivable with shots getting trapped in the engine.
And "fix" it because it was a bug xD
Oddly, I seem to have very good luck in the Mk.3D. I've taken multiple HEATFS and APFSDS rounds and not lost a single crew member. Sure the crew looks like a pack of gummy bears on the UI and the tank might be on fire.. but they are alive.
Phly, please try the m41a1. Thing is a beast with 232mm of penetration(m351A2) at 6.0 for a light tank, and has a really solid speed of 45mph.

The Gal Batash is also looks like a Turkish M60 Sabrah that use 120mm and new turret and protection still the same hull.
The Magach 6B Gal Batash had a 908hp engine and weighed closer to 60t. More WT inaccuracies. Why do folk think warthunder stats are correct?
The fact the Merkava 4b has more turret protection than the chally 2 is a joke.
